Our second and definitely last stay.
The quality of service has dropped dramatically in less than a year. What used to feel like a special place has turned into a hotel where guests don’t feel welcomed, valued, or even noticed.
We stayed in this hotel last year for a short visit and it felt special back then — that’s why we chose it again and book for so special day (31 October – 3 November, room 404). Unfortunately, the experience this year was completely different and very disappointing.
1.Communication and reception service almost nonexistent. No one informed us about the spa or sauna downstairs. It’s not mentioned anywhere, and neither the receptionist nor any information materials explained it. At the same time, everything in the hotel advertises the Monkey Bar even the hotel room mirror.
We were also given a letter with a QR code guide that we were supposed to “scratch” with a coin we discovered its real purpose only when we were already back home. No explanation, no welcome, no “enjoy your stay/snacks”, nothing. Even there was bite-bar close by non of employees while we were checking in mention to “help ourselves”.
Coming in and out of the hotel felt like we were invisible- no greetings, no goodbye, no basic hospitality.
2.Monkey Bar- unwelcoming and poorly managed
Last year we loved the bar: the cocktails were great, the atmosphere felt special, and the service was attentive. This year the opposite.
Even though the bar had free tables, the hostess initially offered us the worst possible table right at the entrance. Only after we mentioned that we were hotel guests she moved us, but even then the attitude felt cold.
The snacks were laughably small: just one tiny cup of nuts. Last year we were served rice chips, popcorn, different nuts -the whole experience felt premium. This time it felt careless and cheap, even though we always order several cocktails.
3. Parking issue
The hotel advertises parking, but in reality there is no availability. Parking on the street costs a lot in Prague, and we paid a high amount for every single day. Other hotels in this price range include parking -Falkensteiner does not.
4. Feeling unvalued as a guest
Both passports were taken at check-in, so the reception clearly saw my birthday was on November 2nd. In many hotels there’s at least a small greeting, a card, or even a friendly “happy birthday”. Here —absolutely nothing. Not a single word or gesture.
