Disclosure: I'm a crowdfunding investor and loyalty member, which got me the upgrade and some nice touches.
This turned out to be the best of the three Falkensteiner hotels I've experienced so far.
Location & Arrival
The hotel sits right at the edge of Schladming center, which I loved. Close enough to walk through town (especially nice coming from the railway station), but far enough out that we could actually sleep with the balcony doors open - something you can't do in most alpine town centers. Free parking in their structure was a relief after driving through Austria.
The Spa - Absolute Highlight
This spa genuinely impressed me. They have everything - steam room, bio sauna, Finnish sauna - but what made it special was the daily infusion programs and how clean they kept everything. The staff actually pays attention to the fitness area too, keeping it stocked with water, tea, and fresh fruit. Gets busy in the afternoons, but there's enough space that it never felt crowded.
Food & Service
The half-board here was exceptional. Breakfast had proper egg stations and everything looked fresh and well-presented - they clearly care about food quality. What I really appreciated was how they handled the dinner setup: buffet for starters and desserts, but proper à la carte mains served at your table.
They assign you the same table for your whole stay, which I initially thought was rigid, but it's brilliant - the staff actually gets to know you. When we asked to move to a quieter spot after the first night (we'd been seated near a large family with kids), they sorted it immediately.
My boyfriend is vegetarian and they had great options for him every night, not just afterthoughts.
The Room & Technical Stuff
The junior suite was spacious with a great valley view from the balcony. Bathroom had a proper soaking tub, which was perfect after spa days. WiFi worked flawlessly - I had several business calls during the stay with zero issues. Water pressure was excellent, everything just worked as it should.
They left a personal welcome note and gift, which was a nice touch for investor status.
What Really Impressed Me
When we decided to extend our stay by two days (completely spontaneous), they not only found availability but gave us the same rate we'd booked months in advance. That's the kind of guest-focused approach that builds real loyalty.
The housekeeping was consistently good throughout our stay - not always a given during longer stays.
Bottom Line
If you're looking for a proper alpine spa hotel where the wellness facilities are taken seriously and the food program is actually well thought out, this delivers. It's particularly good for longer stays where the service relationships can develop.
Would I return? Definitely. It set a high bar that the other Falkensteiner properties I've tried haven't quite matched.
