The campground was quite big, pretty popular. Many families gathered around their campfires in the evenings, creating a warm atmosphere. The nights were a bit chilly, but the mornings were bright and sunny. The facilities were well-maintained. The restrooms were clean and easily accessible, and there was a convenient coin-operated shower facility. For just one dollar, campers could enjoy a three-minute hot shower. According to Ranger Martin, there had never been any reports of animal attacks on humans. However, several campers reported seeing bears, as tall as an adult person when they stand up. Coyote howls were also common, especially at night. Particularly in this year, the number of coyote ramp up a lot. Campers were advised to keep a close eye on their pets and avoid any confrontations with the coyotes.

A wonderful campsite with forested surroundings added to the charm of the place. We stayed at campsite 70, just a short walk to the beautiful and peaceful fallen leaf lake. Our campsite was large, easily accommodating three or four tents at least, although we were RV camping. Restrooms were conveniently located right across from us and were very clean. We only stayed one night but encountered a big adult bear. Fortunately, the camp hosts from 71 were very helpful in driving it away and shared some bear stories with us. This is a bear habitat, around 25-30 bears in the area, so it’s crucial to keep food in locked lockers and ensure your car is locked, as bears are clever and can approach silently FOR FOOD. We are very grateful for the host’s assistance. It was definitely an unforgettable experience.

Lovely campground with easy access to Fallen leaf lake. Our host Martin was really friendly too and always more than happy to chat. Plenty of space at the campsite and the toilets are kept clean. We were also lucky to see a bear just outside of our campsite! Will definitely come back if we're in Lake Tahoe again.

We stayed in yurt 191. The yurt is spacious and includes a chair, futon, side table and a bunk bed with a twin and full size beds. It has electricity with one lamp and a space heater. The yurt is next to a beautiful meadow and directly adjacent to the bathrooms with showers and a nearby spigot. It is a short walk to the path that leads to Fallen Leaf lake.

Google
Absolutely the BEST campground in South Lake Tahoe.. the forest is lush and campsites are spread out enough to have your own personal space but still close enough to get to know your neighbors! Beautifully hidden off the main roads.. great bathrooms/showers and potable water access overall amazing!! Fallen Leaf Lake is also a DREAM!! Also, the most wonderful staff at the entrance :-)

Stayed in Yurt 63, so fun…. So beautiful…. Evening walks… Second night a bear decided to knock our rubbermaid toter around. Scared my sister and I… The-next morning he left paw print on our toter. Want to shellac it so we will have his print. We will definitely return…. The day use looks interesting too

We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to beautiful Fallen Leaf Campground. The campground was quiet, the sites are large and well maintained, and the restrooms were clean. Our campground host, Martin, was especially helpful during our stay, and also told some of the best stories. The staff at the entrance kiosk were amazing as well. We were in Site 155, and there was a beautiful meadow right behind us with a trail leading to Fallen Leaf Lake. We also enjoyed the nice paved bike trail leading out of the campground that gave us access to the public bike path that goes all the way to South Lake Tahoe. The staff warns about bears, which are seen daily in the campground. Just be sure to keep food put away, and the bears will leave your site alone. Nice locking bear boxes are provided in each site. We look forward to going back to Fallen Leaf Campground in the future!

Google
We stay at Fallen Leaf quite often and I can’t say anything bad about it at all. We usually tent camp but this time we reserved a yurt. I couldn’t quite envision what it would actually be like or how roomy it would be and I had a hard time finding pictures that showed much. So this review is for the yurt at space 104. It was very spacious with a futon bed and a bunk bed, sleeps 5. All mattresses were very comfortable! The yurt comes with a comfy chair and small table, a floor lamp and a space heater. Plenty of room to move around and for all our stuff. The door locks so it’s more secure when you go out and about and at night. Outside, along with the usual bear box, picnic table and fire pit, there is a park bench. There’s a ramp leading to the front door and it is right next to the restroom. Very easy accommodations. LOTS of bear activity this year so do not ever leave any food items out and be prepared to move quickly but cautiously if a bear comes by. The bear box is there for a reason so be sure you use it to keep your things and the bears safe. There are also 3 windows on the yurt that are screened with covers and can be opened or closed from the outside. No dogs are allowed in the yurt sites. I enjoy tent camping but it really was nice to be able to stand up, move around and not deal with zippers. It felt like summer camp in a small cabin. They cost more but I’d do it again.

Yelp
We love This campground. Not only are there amazing hiking trails, but there are also biking trails for every level. The bathrooms are updated and clean. The campsites are large and level.

Yelp
This was my second time coming here and I LOVE it. BEARS: We stayed for a couple of days and saw black bears. I thought they were brown bears at first because of the color of their fur, but they're black so it was definitely a relief! Just know that the bears won't hurt you so don't be so scared. They only want food and view the campground as their buffet. They were so used to the campground that they weren't fazed when we were blowing whistles, honking our cars, clanking pans. Our neighbors had their dog's medicine stolen from the bears because they left dog treats with the medicine unsecured. Long story short: leave food in bear lock, and don't worry! BEAR LOCK: The bear lock is a must and it's super sturdy! If closed right, the bears can't get in. Our camp neighbors had a lot of incident with the bears where they ate their food. Make sure to get what you want out of the bear box and lock everything else up, unless you want to see a few bears at your campsite! BEARS AND TENT: Don't leave any food in tent should be something obvious. But the people there also warned us about leaving anything SCENTED in our tent (perfumes, toothpaste, bug spray, etc...). The first day we were definitely paranoid about leaving toothpaste in our tent but honestly, the bears only come for food. They don't hurt you whatsoever. So if you're paranoid, leave scented things in the bear lock. If not, it's fine, nothing happened to us at least! MONTHS WE WENT: Last year we went around August 11th and there were no sightings of bears. We went a few days ago, July 19th-22nd, and there has been bear sightings everyday when we camped. BATHROOMS: Quick note regarding the bathrooms: No mirrors and hand soap! Only toilet and sink. The women's bath room near campsite 104 was clean! There wasn't any problem with it at all. As for the men's bathroom, my boyfriend has mentioned that it was dirty and someone sounded like they were smoking and vomiting in there SHOWERING: The showering system: $1 for 3 minutes. You have to get tokens outside the campground store. 1 token = 3 minutes. There will be showering bathrooms around the campground. You just have to look for one. Inside the showering bathrooms, there's a toilet, sink with a mirror, hangers to hang your stuff up, a bench, and machine to insert your coins by the shower. Make sure you're prepared to go into the shower before inserting your coin! It'll start immediately after you do. The water varies. My family said the shower was REALLY hot, but my experience was okay. It did get SUPER hot in the beginning but eventually durable and cool. EATING: We didn't have experience last time we went so when we were preparing and eating food, a ton of wasps swarmed our area and it was a disaster. This time, we brought along citronella candles and it was a LIFESAVER!!! We brought 3 along to spread it around the tables and it was amazing. Definitely a tip! Entrance Lady: It's nothing that important but I do want to note that one of the younger lady, I forgot her name, was really really rude and upset when talking to us. It was really unpleasant being all happy and on vacation and having someone ruin that few minutes for us. Working at a vacation and tourist area is the wrong job for her. Will definitely be a regular at this campsite!

Yelp
Our first stay at fallen leaf was awesome. We did four nights and although the trek to the lake was quite far from our camp spot it was well worth it! Recommend you pack lightly if you are located far from the lake and to find some of the trails that make the trip shorter. Really enjoyed having a close spot to explore other areas of Tahoe. Oh.. and the waterfall at the other side of fallen leaf lake made our trip Also, lots of bear activity at this camp spot so plan ahead and be bear aware!!

Yelp
I think I would put 5 stars if it weren't for the showers, but this has everything you would expect a campsite to have as campers sleeping in a tent. My friend booked the site for us so I don't really know how the booking process went, but the area we booked was enough to set up two tents (one for her and I and then one for my boyfriend at the time - now husband ). There are bathrooms with toilets stationed in reasonable parts throught the campground. However, not every bathroom had showers, so we had to walk around a bit to find bathrooms with showers. That felt stressful for me personally because of not knowing if a shower area was free or not after walking a certain distance with my toiletries. In any case, the best feature of this campground is how close it is not only to Lake Tahoe, but also to Fallenleaf Lake! That place is stunning with also mountains as a backdrop but much quieter and less people. It is literally a hidden gem. It was unfortunately strangely cold when we went in the summer, but it could be fun to go back when it is warmer and kayak or something. Also something to note is that this campground has a lot of bear sightings/warnings, so that personally was scary to me and is probably the main reason I personally would not go back (even though we did not see any bears, though. We did hear packs of wolves every night which was cool but also a little bit scary). If I were to go back, I would probably rent some kind of camping van/trailer/RV. But I would love to just purchase a day pass or something in the future in order to access the lake!

Yelp
Fallen leaf campground is a gem in Tahoe. The lake itself is incredible, beautiful, warmer than Tahoe and a short walk from any spots. The sites are perfectly sized, though some tight angles to navigate if bringing a big camper. My only beef is that the bathrooms were really unkept the weekend we were there, so cmon people, if you're using the space treat it with respect!! We did see multiple bears, which was fun, remember to keep all food and hygiene items locked up!!!

Sandee L.

Yelp
We loved this campground, despite the E. coli outbreak that weekend! We felt sorry for the tent campers who rely on the general bathrooms because there was no running water, only the toilets were available to use. This campground has over 200 sites as well as yurts. A small camp store has all the necessities you might have forgotten, as well as firewood. We had site 81 and it was spacious: equipped with a picnic bench, fire pit and bear box with a paved, decently level pad. If you're not camping here, day use is $10. We thought Fallen Leaf was a hidden gem! Maybe the best campground we've stayed at in Cali. Located just 15 minutes from Lake Tahoe with its own lake (that's not very crowded) you can SUP or fish in. Can't wait to stay here again!

Yelp
one of the best campground that I ever experience in Ca. We stay in site 55 and the campsite was big , good shade and space and easy to access bathroom and toliet , well maintained and clean . Watch out for the active bears, they visited out camp site during dinner time and mid nite .

Yelp
This campground and specifically fallen leaf lake, has become so special to my family and I. We are usually able to book a last minute campground - luckily we live close by. Being able to feel safe with our dogs in our campground was such an important factor. While we saw bears every night we stayed here, the front office educates you on your way in as well as providers bear boxes in the camp zone. There's never a lot of noise, but the lake can get busy on the weekends.

Yelp
Beautiful locations with bathrooms. Lake is only a couple minutes drive away as well as a nice ice cream option. Camp grounds were kept clean
google avatar

Yelp
Really nice camp ground for cleanliness, minimal crowds, beautiful lake, and yurts! There are not that many yurts so if you would like one and are joining others who are really camping, book early. There was no bedding in the yurts so be prepared to bring your own. The yurts do have electrical outlets and one lamp though! Fyi, very little cell reception for most.

Yelp
Absolutely epic campground within a short driving distance from South Lake Tahoe! We stayed at site 60 and were impressed at how great most of the sites were after biking through the campground. Not something anyone can control, but mosquitos are definitely out and about at this campground, especially during dusk. We came home with bites everywhere, even after applying lots of bug spray. There are a few short trails to Fallen Leaf Lake which is incredible, and wasn't that crowded even over the 4th of July holiday weekend! I would highly suggest anyone try this campground, especially because it has amenities like hot showers and running water. We hope to come back to Fallen Leaf campground soon!

Yelp
We have been camping at Fallen Leaf Lake with my brother and his wife for 20 plus years. We stay the entire 14 days and enjoy every minute. The camp ground is beautiful and the sites are well maintained. The camp hosts are welcoming and are often checking if everything is okay. There are bathrooms evenly scattered throughout the campground. Many are new. They are kept neat and clean. We wish the new bathrooms had a mirror and shelf like the old bathrooms. The speed limit for cars within the campground is 10 MPH. Electric bikes are more and more prevalent and for the most part do not heed the speed limit. This is not just a campground problem but a problem for all bike and walking trails in the basin. We feel this issue does need to be addressed in the campground. We are already thinking about next summer, can't wait. Carol and Frank D

Yelp
We just came for a quick hike. Day passes were reasonably priced and the area was beautiful and easy to hike.

Yelp
We stayed at Campsite 136. If you have dogs not the best site as we have our poor pups full of thorns in their paws. I highly recommend shoes to protect their paws. There were thickets and so we were limited on how many tents we could lay out in our area. We parked a large 6 foot bed truck in the parking area. We used 1 6 foot tent and 1 3 person tent. That's all we could fit. Pros - fire pit, large picnic table, large bear locker, paved space, not far from bathrooms. They allow dogs at campsite. Please make sure to keep your dogs on leash at your site and while walking. Cons - showers were a bit of a walk, entrance to road to campground needs repair, there was damage due to heavy snows from winter. Lots of thorns along paths! Beware of ticks and bees. They were around our campsite. I came prepared. Bears come out at night looking for food. Make sure to put your foods, drinks and toiletries in the bear lockers for safety. Make sure to buy your firewood before coming to camp. We purchased our wood at the camp and it wasn't good. $8 a stack and it smoked white and was no good (we all got sick from it). It is a nice location. If the weather is nice it's a nice alternative to the busier and loud South Lake Tahoe location. Fallen Leaf Lake is serene and beautiful. Sadly we arrived Sunday 6/18 on Father's Day and the weather did not cooperate. It was freezing and very windy. Due to the weather and the bad smoke from the wood we had to leave our camp and stay at a local hotel. We did come back to camp a couple days later when it was warmer and it was much nicer. Due to the cold and snowy winter the temperatures are much colder right now in Tahoe. The gas prices are very high. People are still camping and coming up here but it's not as busy during the middle of the week Tuesday - Thursday if you want to come up to Tahoe and avoid the crazy summer crowds. Just make sure to check the weather. We planned our trip months ahead yet never could predict the weather of course. Just bad timing. My experience of camp was more like a 2/3 star but gave it a 4 star for probably what it is if weather was warmer. Campgrounds can't control the elements (No pictures because it was too windy)

Yelp
We LOVED everything about this gorgeous site. We will be back many many times more. Gorgeous pines, beautiful blue jays, quite setting. We almost didn't want to go into town. Just stay in the gorgeous Forrest. Excellent staff. Very friendly. Love love love.

Yelp
Peaceful, quiet and serene! Awesome campground! Clean showers/ bathrooms! 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
This place is far enough from the busy tourist areas and feels somewhat remote in a very wooded forest. It also has plenty of friendly bears if you like that sort of thing (just remember not to feed them though). The greatest thing about this campground is that there are hot showers and you'll need a token for a 3 minute shower (BYO soap/towel).

Catherine A.

Yelp
Beautiful camp, with a hidden gem Fallen Leaf Lake nearby. Way more low key than Lake Tahoe and very dog friendly! Took my Jack Russell Terrier and did a one night stay at the camp (tent camping). This was my first camping experience EVER. Let me tell you - They are NOT kidding about these bears. I read the reviews and was very paranoid the whole time. I was praying we saw no bears. I was not so lucky. It was 8pm pitch dark when we decided to start cooking some s'mores before it got too late. Everything (food and toiletries) was locked up in the bear box per park rangers instructions. THANK GOODNESS I had not opened up the bear box yet when I see a massive shadow in the bushes 15 feet away. Immediately, I knew it was bear. They are SO quiet, not even my dog heard/saw it. We quietly picked up my dog and hid in the tent for the rest of the night. I soon learned that bears are the most active after sunset because from 8-11pm we kept hearing cars honking, pots banging, people yelling at bears to leave their camp. I'm probably going to try beach camping next and work my courage up to try this campsite again If I come again I would most likely rent an RV or camper to feel more safe at night and bring bear spray to take on a hike. I know bears aren't interested in humans but it's a little scary for someone with zero camping experience. During the day, lots of kids and families on their bike/ scooters having fun and trails full of people and dogs. Bottom line, stick to the rules. Absolutely have your dogs on leash in the camp and on nearby trails for their safety. Although dogs can deter bears they can also sometimes instigate bears to attack. Other than that I'm bringing my flouts to try at the Fallen Leaf Lake with my dog!

Yelp
Fallen Leaf is a wonderful alternative to the busy south lake area. Within walking and biking distance from Lake Tahoe, we enjoyed the beauty and peace.

Yelp
Its a beautiful place! Right next to the lake! Very Clean! Full of trees! Big campground! Very quiet! Not ideal for a loud group of people. We felt like everyone was quiet at 7 pm not my typical kind of camping. Nobody was playing loud music nor talking loud The lake was beautiful! And clear! My kids had fun swimming!

Yelp
I was here couple days ago. The booking and checking in were smooth. Our site was close to the restroom. About 1 mile or less walking to the fallen leaf lake! Beautiful lake by the way!

Yelp
I grew up camping and now as an adult take my own family camping multiple times a year and have never had a bad experience with a host until now. I will never come back here and support this site after what we experienced. The last night we stayed it rained all night making the clean up process the next day lengthy especially with 2 babies under 2. Checkout is supposed to be at 12 however we were late packing up which we understand is 100% our fault but instead of coming and talking to us about it or giving us a late fee the host came up so aggressive and angry screaming and cussing at us telling us to "get our shit and get the fuck out". Also adding that he would make sure we were never allowed to camp in the area ever again. Mind you this was all in front of our 3 kids. I was completely shocked and still can't believe how we were treated. I wonder if we were an older white couple if he would have talked to us the same way... but because my partner has brown skin and tattoos he gets treated that way a lot. We were nothing but apologetic about the situation and met with anger and threats by an angry old man who shouldn't be working there. He ended up charging us for another night even though we left an hour later and was so smug about it. He couldn't wait to tell us to go get our receipt for our new charge knowing we were leaving and not staying another night. It ruined our whole trip. Will never come back.

Yelp
Beautiful area. The people at the camp store are awesome. Gail has a lot of information about the surrounding area.

Yelp
So beautiful and peaceful. Parker can be a little difficult but so worth seeing. There's camping area where people can go camp out. Lots of different trails to go hiking as well.

Yelp
We stayed the weekend here at site 110. It was surrounded by trees and shrubs which backed up to the dry creek bed. It felt secluded and it was large enough for two large tents. It was right across from the water spigot and just a few campsites walk away to the bathroom. The walk to the lake was about ten minutes. The lake is beautiful and I would definitely come back to do water activities in the summer. Even though there was a little bit of rain we still had a great time and enjoyed the thunderstorm. Sites 103 and 101 also looked spacious and flat! (We did see the bears near the front entrance!)

Teresa R.

Yelp
Great place to camp and the new dump station is a welcome addition.

Yelp
Lots of and they will take whatever you leave out. They even opened our motorhome screen door while we were in it! Easily scared away though. Beautiful camping area. Ask for the meadow view. Nice walk to the lake.

Yelp
Spent 7/10-7/12 here at site 61. The site was situated right next to the bathroom/showers which was really convenient although due to COVID showers aren't in use. It was a good size site, we fit our 6 person tent easily and there was room opposite from the picnic table that also could of held one. There was a bear box, picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Everything was very clean, and noticed the bathrooms got cleaned multiple times per day. Fallen leaf lake was a very short walk from the campsite. If you follow the car path down toward the right you reach the day parking area and the trail head to get to the beach. We didn't use the beach area since it was a little more crowded than we felt comfortable with but it was easy to find a secluded area to relax. The marina is on the opposite side of this beach and to get to it you take a one lane paved road. There wasn't too much car traffic when we drove it do it wasn't too bad but could see how it could be annoying if there were lots of cars. The parking for eagle falls is just passed the marina as well. I had read reviews to beware of mosquitos, bugs and bees but compared to camping in mammoth last July we really didn't have a problem, and I bought a lot of bug deterrents in preparation lol. I would definitely stay here again if camping in Tahoe but I would say I would chose a different site. Being right next to the bathrooms there was a lot of foot traffic coming and going. Also to the right is a yurt and straight in back is another site that you have full view of. I would chose sites 68,70, or 72 because they were huge and seemed the most secluded. Overall great campground!

Yelp
Clean facilities, spacious sites, nearby walk to the lake. Was nice and quiet and slept like a dream all week. Will return.

Yelp
We stayed in June of 2015 and had a blast! We camped with some friends and had campsites 92 and 93. We were provided with a fire ring, table and bear box. There was running water at the campsite next to us, which helped with dishes :) The restrooms were super clean! There was hot showers and I believe it was 4 minutes for 2 dollars. It was a little chilly when we went so these showers were much appreciated! Make sure to keep your bear box locked!! We had visitors when ours didn't click closed completely. The lake was beautiful and a 5 minute walk from us. We kayaked, swam and fished. We didn't catch any fish but my husband did find a local fishing spot that was for kids and free! There are lots of stores around so if you forget anything, it's okay! We overpacked because we had no idea what was around. This year we can pack a lot more lightly.
google avatar

Lacey S.

Yelp
Sites here are plenty spacious. We had site 198 YURT Site. We're able to fit out table cover, also had a shower tent that we brought and of course we fit our 10 person tent near the yurt and that had plenty of space around it as well. We were close to the bathroom. Campgrounds around here have a lot of Yellow Jackets buzzing around so thankfully our table cover was good in keeping them out. Fire pits are large, it was very quiet at night. The tall trees provide good shade for your site and thankfully if you place your tent in the right area you won't be hit with a bunch of sun in the morning. Also if you have AT&T it's a dead zone.

Yelp
We camp here every year! This campground is very spacious. We have a 5th wheel and having a pull-through where you can just drive your 5th wheel through. It is a blessing. Our favorite spots have been 45 and the spots next to it. 41, 44, 45, 47. All pull through and great for family parking. We like to camp for 3 nights. But it seems so short for all that you could be doing. There's hiking, lakes, different beaches - Our favorite is Camp Richardson Marina. I'll write a review for that. And you can tour through the city with your bikes. Too much to do in such a short period of time. Please note that If you are booking - Designate people that you are going with. You will not be able to get your site if you go early. You have to wait for the person who booked it. Also note that you have to pay additional parking. Parking is only free for 1 trailer and 1 car. $7 a day for additional car. Quiet hours are 10-6. I've turned our generator on as early as 6:30 and no one has complained. It's because we usually book all the surrounding sites. Bikes, longboards, scooters a must for this area. Kids can ride everywhere. Campground is possible big, streets paved smoothly and it's wide. Prior to getting into campground, roads are narrow with so much pot holes. Would not recommend kids riding outside of campground. The bathrooms are clean. And it has showers. $1 for 3 minutes. It only takes Quarters. Bring your slippers to shower in. There is Fallen Lake that is designated just for this site but to be honest, I've never seen it. Lol. I've camped here for over 10 years and usually go to Lake Tahoe. But I've seen beautiful pictures and just realized there's a fall. YIKEs! This is horrible that I haven't seen. And there's plenty of hiking. Next year, staying longer! lol

Yelp
This review is on the Moraine Trail at Fallen Leaf Lake, and NOT on the Campground. The Moraine Trail itself is NOT listed on Yelp, yet. Thus, I am posting this review on the Fallen Leaf Lake Campground. - At any rate, its trailhead is at the parking lot of the campground. Parking is FREE. By the trailhead, there are a few picnic tables for your pleasure. It's an easy, flat, 2.5mile (round trip) scenic trail through the woods, along a small running stream, or along the lake shoreline, to a narrow dam bridge - and BEYOND! It's great for ALL ages and wonderful for walking dogs, also. One can also EXTEND the distance by crossing the dam bridge and hike farther in. Oh, there's a tiny beach along the shoreline trail by the lake, which runs parallel to the Moraine Trail. One can go swimming or fishing there! DETAILS At the trailhead off the parking lot, there is a sign with an arrow pointing to the right for the Moraine Trail. What it does not tell you is you CAN turn to the LEFT and head to the shoreline trail along the lake and a tiny beach! But it does not really matter actually which trail you start on, you can always loop back to the parking lot on the other trail. Taylor Creek, a charming little stream runs along the trail. And about 1/3 into the woods, you'll see an amazing, gigantic, LIVE, HOLLOW TREE, which can accommodate 2 or more adults standing together inside its trunk! That's probably the most popular spot for pics on the trail! To relax over a snack, there are a few sitting benches along the trail, also. Near the "end" of the trail, you will see a very narrow dam/bridge with controls for the dam! At this point you have several options, either trekking back on the same trail or take the shoreline trail along the lake back to the campground lot. Or... Well, this dam bridge certainly does not have to be the "END" of your hike. You can venture out farther along the lake shore beyond the bridge, or turn right over the bridge and follow the trail into the woods to until about a mile in, where you would run across a stream on the right side. There is large wood trunk above and across the creek, leading back to the campground. However, I myself have not tried crossing the creek, so I am not quite sure about that particular route. I was too chicken to get on that wood trunk to cross the stream, I just back trekked to cross the dam bridge again, and hiked back to the campground parking lot along the lakeshore trail. We had another wonderful hiking experience that day! On our hike, we saw many happy campers and hikers enjoying the lake, the beach, the trails...! By the way, some campers said they had spotted bears on the campground. However, over 2 decades of hiking in Lake Tahoe, we ourselves have NOT crossed path with a bear on any hiking TRAIL. GETTING THERE Coming from Lake Tahoe on Highway 89N, turn left on to Fallen Leaf Road; continue on 2/3 of a mile into the Fallen Leaf Campground. The parking lot is nearby camp site No.75. - The road itself is mostly a narrow, 1-lane road, so please be careful and courteous driving out there. There are plenty clearings off the road, however, for the maneuvers with the oncoming cars. MY SUBJECTIVE RATING As an old man, I give it 5* for its beauty, charm, and its "Great for All Ages" EASINESS! For hikers who thrive on steep climbs, I think they would agree with a 4* rating, due to its lack of such challenge. Go enjoy! Peter S July 2016

Yelp
I have been going to fallen leaf campground for many years and the bear problem has gotten much worse. When I came around 7 years ago it wasn't so bad, now the last couple years, bears without fail. This time around we were sitting around the fire having s'mores and saw a dark shadow about 8 feet away. My friend yelled and we backed away only see more bears in the direction we were backing into. The bear then jumped onto our picnic table to look for food (our food was in the locker so it didn't find any) we were able to scare him away with our car alarm but they made their rounds (you could tell by the random yells of "BEAR!!" and car honking) Then the next morning a nearby family was making breakfast around 8:30am. A bear and her cubs came up and ate the food they were cooking right off the camp stove and the entire contents of their bear locker (which was open since they were in the middle of cooking) the camp host came around to scare them away but these bears are not scared of humans. Any time a host blasted his air horn the bear walked a bit away and then just came right back to eat more. Other than the bear issue, this campground is very nice. Very close to fallen leaf lake, nice bathrooms, spacious bear lockers and nice sites. Just be sure to be bear aware! No scented things in your tent, no food in the car, keep food locked up at all times, and maybe bring an air horn.

Yelp
Fallen Leaf Campground offers many campsites that are great for beginner level campers. This site will offer you the outdoors with the amenities of home such as a nice bathroom and a shower. Some of the other sites I have been too have bathrooms but no shower. The bathrooms and showers are kept clean and are actually pretty nice. The campsites themselves are kept clean and most of the campsites are easy to get in and out of with a trailer or RV of sorts. A few might be a tight squeeze if you have a fairly large trailer. But just make sure to ask the staff and let them know the size of your rig so there won't be any complications. They know the size of each campsite and can give you a yes or no if your rig will fit. Fallen Leaf Lake itself is beautiful and the water is very clear. I like waking up to a beautiful backdrop like this. It is a pleasant place to be and would highly recommend getting a space here. Make sure you follow all the rules so as to not infringe on the camp ground rules. One it will make the camp ground staff uncomfortable and might put you in danger. The main reason I say that is because of the possible bear intrusion on your campsite. I know most people might see these guys and just think oh it's just a bear. Oh man you would be in for a surprise how strong they are and how dangerous they can be. So keep all your food stored properly and minimize the possibility of a bear coming on to your campground. From my experience with the staff they were friendly and eager to answer any questions I had. They were also very accommodating to whatever needs I needed. They told my because I am coordinator for a large group of people they can accommodate 20-30 people. They just need to know when and which site you would like. They made it very easy for me. They also have a store on the campsite so you can buy little souvenirs and other items you might need for your stay at Fallen Leaf Lake. This is a really a nice place for a family oriented stay/camping experience. Good for little children and a adults who want to just be in the outdoors but not rough it out. If you are into hardcore camping being on a campsite would not suite your needs. But as I was saying if your just looking to be in the outdoors with some of the amenities of home this is the best place for you. I hope my review helps you. Thank you for reading.

Yelp
This camp ground is awesome. Many hiking trails, many cool creatures to see. Me, my wife and 4 other friends went there for 4 days but end up leaving on the 3rd night. We jelust got done with dinner right before dark and we just ate Smores. Your favorite neighbor will come and visit. The largest Brown Bear ever! Well, that was the only bear I've seen in my entire life. Hopefully the last time as well. It doesn't seem to want eat humans but it's as wild as it will get. We slowly got up from our dying camp fire ring and I had instructed every 1 to get together in a group and made ourselves appear larger than it. We slowly went into our cars and dog piled in. I started up the car, turned the head lights on and honked at it several times. It disappeared into the dark of the night. By the way I think it was Daddy Bear. The one in most photos had cubs and looked smaller than the one that we saw. My best advice to you is bring an RV, those camping tents are no protection. Also, finish all meals and snack before dark and take out the trash. Amongst other creatures. We saw a deer and a coyote. The lake near by is beautiful. I would definitely go back but with a RV! The staff there is serious about warnings of bears and regulations. Don't ignore the signs, it's so real! Lol! Anything scented leave it in the bear box. Its large enough for 5 of us gals to use. Have fun & be safe!!!

Yelp
Very clean and well maintained campground. They have flush toilets, mirrors, and showers. We stayed in a yurt which fits 5 people on 3 beds. It also had a heater which wasn't very strong but did keep the interior at least 10F higher than outside. There are bears that regularly visit the campground so use the bear locker and throw trash out regularly.

Yelp
This is a very nice campground. Well maintained. Just please follow rules. Lets keep it clean, fun and safe for everyone. Rest room is not the typical campground - it has running water and even shower (shower need quarters) .

Yelp
We decided to come here on our very first time camping near Lake Tahoe because they allow dogs. We had a really bad experience here the campsite was extremely clean and they were bathrooms that were also clean. The only thing is that when we checked in the park rangers warned us that there are currently fleas on the campsite that carry the plague so because of that we had to go to the pet store and buy extra flea medicine just in case because the plague is very dangerous for dogs. However they did tell us that they were going to be closing the the campground in July for a few days in order to spray and kill all the fleas that are carrying the plague. We stayed at a car and tent camping site it was just the two of us and there was plenty of room it came with a fire pit, lunch table, and a modern bear box. The good thing is though that we never saw any bears. The campsite was also packed at capacity in full but there was still plenty of room for privacy in between all the campsites. Our dog also love the campsite and he had a ton of fun. Also if you want to go to the beach that allows dogs if you drive right out of Fallen Leaf and go across the street you'll reach Kirk Creek I believe or Kiva Kiva Creek and there they allow dogs.

Yelp
Dont mess with the Bear!We stayed at Fallen Leaf campground and had an enjoyable experience. Never saw bears while we were there, but my daughter loved seeing all the squirrels, chipmunks, and the campsite. We were toward the back of the campground in a site close to Fallen Leaf Lake. Many sites were spaced out nicely, but others were grouped very close together. Great if you are with a group that requires multiple sites, but not so great if you want a bit of privacy. The bathrooms were always clean, although those that had the showers were a bit wet. The walk to Fallen Leaf Lake at the back of the campground was short and easy. We would stay here again when visiting the area..campsite # 90 & 91. note: we went on month of June. the snow are still up there in the mountain.. so don't forget to bring extra extra blanket..very cold at nighttime... Go Golden State Warriors Basketball Team!!!

Yelp
This campground is the best that we have stayed on our RV trip, even though there was no hook up. It's in the forest right next to the most beautiful lake that you have access to. You can enjoy a swim or go for a long hike around the lake. Dog friendly. The campground itself is mostly nicely spread out so you are not too close to your neighbors. Very peaceful. It finally felt relaxing for us. Plus everyone here is super helpful and friendly. They also have the cutest gift store. Make sure to check it out!

Yelp
Clean. Decent location. Good sites. 3 stars off because this park, like many others in California, does not provide soap. Their reason was that people can steal it and/or make a mess. Well guess what? A US forest and ag. administered park just down the road does provide soap. Seems they don't agree with that pathetic excuse. Maybe no establishment should provide soap because people could steal it and make a mess. Let's start with the restaurants. It's ridiculous, especially considering that you pay 35 dollars to stay here.

Yelp
The rangers, brave and mighty, in their golf carts they roll and patrol. You'd better listen to them, OR ELSE!!!

Yelp
I camped here the first week of September 2016 and had an amazing time. This campground is clean and offers large sites. I wanted to take my cousin camping and she has never really camped before and has always had bad experiences. We had such a great time here. The campground offers showers and individual bathrooms and as well bear storages. I was impressed with how large each campsite was and how well kept everything was. The next morning we went on a mini 5 mile hike and fortunately the weather was absolutely perfect. The hike was incredibly beautiful and scenic. I will absolutely come back here. This was a great place to camp.

Yelp
My husband and I wanted to camp at lake Tahoe but since it was a last minute thing it was of course all booked. We decided to go to the Fallen Leaf Campground and we arrived on 8/22/17. Let me start by saying that the campground is beautiful. The campsite is kept clean. You can smell the trees and the air is so fresh. The day we arrived it rained but to my surprised I loved it because all looked clear. Of course we had the gear we needed like an ez-up tent, our rain clothes etc. It did get a little cold at night but it was expected. Ok so the second day around 6pm my husband and I are getting ready to toast some marshmallows and we kept hearing cars honking their horns from far away...shortly after i see two bears running in the field in front of us! I jumped up and told my husband. Most campers were banging pots and honking horns to scare them away. After about an hour the people next to us said the bears had left the camp site. I guess they were looking for food since it was dinner time for most families. This was the first time I've seen bears besides a zoo so I was terrified and just wanted to go to bed. So all was well were sleeping in our tent and then at midnight out of nowhere a dog started barking and howling so loud then a woman started yelling in panick then a man all pissed yelling then they keept calling for their dog for like two hours. Then last like at 2am i heard the lady yelling "i found him!see f*** you a** hole" And then all quiet but i heard bears running near by our tent. I did not sleep at all. I have to say that I personally did not feel safe. They have camp host but not sure what they do? Also the noise is not regulated at that camp site. We had to check out a day early. To me it was just not worth it. I say if you are comfortable with bears running around... go for it since it is a beautiful camp site. I should of took the lady at the kiosk more seriously the day we checked in. The first thing she said after i told her we were checking in is "we do have bears here and they are very active. They joined a family for a meal and they weren't through with eating". I thought I could tuff it out cause my husband likes the outdoors but unfortunately had to leave by the third day.

Yelp
We've spent the past few days at Fallen Leaf, and it was an awesome choice! We have just one more night at this beautiful location(*_*) Finishing out our camping trip, we ended here in Tahoe, and while snow season is over..hiking and camping is ready to roll! Roll, like your sleeping bag. Not an RV camper. Yeah, we went TENT camping!! This campground is cute, close to Fallen Leaf Lake and absolutely stunning. I think it would be a great spot for winter too. And relatively inexpensive, around $30, but it's Tahoe so it's expected to be slightly more than some people are expecting but it's also a touristy area. Therefore, price raise. So for the area, inexpensive. The campgrounds are plenty spacious, we had 2 4 person tents, and there was plenty of room still at our site. The parking are could've fit one or two more cars other than our suv, but I believe you have to pay for any extra cars other than the one they allot you. The showers and bathrooms are located pretty much in between all the camp sites, and it's like $1 per 3 minutes for a shower. Grab your lover to save soap, money and water (^_~) Serious drought guys! Each camp site also come with a picnic table, fire pit and bear locker to store your food away. Use it, because it can happen. A few campers had their tent sniffed at and rummaged through the night before we came in according to the grandpa. Also, our camping neighbors were close, but not on top of us, plenty of space between. The lake is gorgeous, and within walking distance of most of the campsites, and has such amazingly clear waters. It was possibly more gorgeous than Lake Tahoe..yes, I said that. It wasn't crowded and the water was cool, and clear. There is fishing available, but the hiking is even better with many centrally located trailheads near Fallen Lake, and the surrounding campgrounds. Personally, I would comeback for the hiking alone because it was so nice, and the trails are accessible, and fun. The terrain makes it easy for hikers of all skills to have an enjoyable trip, and take in some beautiful views. Some SKYSCRAPER FREE VIEWS!!! Hallelujah!!! It's a very family friendly location all the way around. The only downfall I could see is with RVs, and the size. The campground isn't so compatible with those babies. Definitely seemed aimed more for tent camping. RVs leaving had a hard time navigating the sites to back in and out of the spots. The road isn't very wide either, just under a 2 lane road, and you'll be squeezing to the side to let them pass. But other than that, I will still give Fallen Lake 5 stars! Family friendly and full of pure beauty!! (P.S. shout out to the fellow Wen girl camper who found my bottle at the showers and left a note with her campsite! Thank yoouuu!!!)

Yelp
One of the best camp grounds in Tahoe region. The site are very private and large with lots of room to move around. You are not packed like sardines like some of sites (sugar pine campground). There are plenty of bathrooms and also many showers in the area as well. There will be some bugs and mosquito, so make sure to bring some bug spray with you. The firepit we had was more than adequate and there was a metal bar available to move around the firewood without burning your hands. Quiet hours are 10pm but there is no one to enforce it when we were there. A group next to us were making loud noises until 1130pm and they had no camp etiquette unfortunately. however, you may run into this problem anywhere. Overall, a great camp site and we will come back there again. Recommend this over Sugar Pine Campgruond though

Yelp
Fallen leaf campground was a ton of fun. It is just a small hike from Fallen Leaf Lake. The grounds are well maintained, bathrooms are pretty clean, and they clean between campers. The lady at the front booth aren't as helpful or personal during check-in. They do have a bit of a meat bee problem, but they do have many traps around the site that are hidden pretty well. You might consider a screen tent for eating. It wasn't really any worse than the average park, we managed pretty well. The sites are a really good size and it's exactly what we wanted. Well groomed site with nearby facilities and a space to our own. A beautiful lake nearby for swimming and fishing. It's not the KOA kind of place. We appreciate that. Thanks
