Nestled in the small town of Munising in the Upper Peninsula, this cafe is a perfect place to stop for a cozy and delicious meal. I came here on a rainy day in September, and it felt like a comfortable haven from the changing elements outside. The walls are lined with bookshelves, and the books are categorized by genre. Most books are for sale! They are typically older books, but that added to the quaint feeling. There is also a small art gallery in the back with some glass art for sale.
The hummus sandwich was amazing. When I was ordering, I asked the cashier if it was good, and she said it was a "popular item". I decided to go for it. Veggies inside included shredded carrots, tomato slices, red pepper, and cucumber. All extremely fresh and flavorful! Especially the tomato slices. The bread was so soft and yummy as well. It was messy to eat, as the bread was so soft that it fell apart a bit, but so worth the mess to eat! It was served with classic potato chips and a pickle.
The ministrone soup was very hearty with beans and noodles in it and a thicker base. It was good with some classic saltines sprinkled in as well. Not the best I've had, but it was a nice complement to the hummus sandwich.
I didn't try it, but the breakfast burrito looked hearty too, and my friend said it was good with a side of salsa.
They were very conscious of COVID precautions. Coming from a large city that is taking precautions very seriously, I was unsure what it would be like in a small town. This was actually the first time I ate inside of a restaurant (as opposed to patio dining) during the pandemic. It was not very crowded when I went there with only 5 other patrons in the large dining area. I was very impressed and felt very safe. Everyone wore masks properly, and there was a nice system for marking which tables have been properly cleaned.
