Admittedly, I have fond childhood memories of what the Falls Village Inn was circa 1992; as an old friend's mother managed at the time, I recall sitting in a converted bedroom on the second floor, eating freshly fried mozzarella sticks and watching "Roundhouse" on SNICK. As for the food back then? Who cares? I was in 2nd grade and I could go downstairs and get free refills of Sprite from the bar whenever I wanted!
After a handful of renovations and reimaginings, the Falls Village Inn has come into what it is currently. For the area, based on the brunch menu, I was impressed by their eclectic menu! Along with your basic dishes such as waffles and pancakes, the menu was graced with choices such as fish tacos and multi-colored quinoa with mango. The inside was simply, tastefully decorated with many photos and homages to the Canaan and Falls Village of yesteryear. And the drink menu? New York - style cocktails to cater to the New York crowd, indeed.
I partook in the waffle for brunch, which was coupled with a small array of watermelon slices, strawberries, and orange slices on the side, along with authentic maple syrup. The waffle? Plentiful but too dry for my liking. My parents had Eggs Benedict along with potato-tomato au gratin. This combination was MIND BLOWING. Though the potatoes were a triffle underdone, the flavor combination was absolutely subpurb. I could have consumed an entire plate of just that, shamelessly licking the sauce off of the plate afterwards.
An eclectic (by Northwest Corner of CT standards) menu with above-average food; my waffle wasn't the best, but the other food was of good quality. I certainly look forward to going back to try their other options. My age has changed, and I'm looking forward to eating more than mozzarella sticks like I used to! (Though perhaps a few may be tasty, for ol' times sake...)
