Ignoring that it's a chain, the Broadway Famiglia is incredible. Of the three major pizzerias in the area, they're the best. It's not just their food, but they treat you like a pal and are always friendly when you come in and take forever to order or even when you try to finagle a free refill.
You know, that's point number one: Famiglia has a soda fountain. For me, pop doesn't get better (Fountain, then Can, then Bottle, then?). They're not lacking in variety (meaning if you ask for it, you can get it), but I typically opt for the chicken slice. The meat is always perfectly cooked and tender, and just seems to blend right into the slice. It's a flawless execution and you don't find yourself masticating some chuck of unmentionable chicken anatomy. Absolutely tasty. Always in the oven for long enough on the reheat. Some other places yank it right back out before it even has time to sizzle.
They've also got fantastic garlic knots. They don't skimp on the butter and the garlic, while at first overwhelming, is great. You gotta commit to the resultant breath, but with marinara sauce or on their own, it's easy to want to get a batch of 15 or 20 knots. The lasagna always looks amazing -- I'm going to try it one of these days.
Unfortunately, it's a popular after-school spot for babysitters with their charges. The kids can get a little loud if you pick the wrong time to go, but that's the kids' fault, not Famiglia's. This is a must-visit pizza joint if you find yourself above 96th on the West Side.
