Weather Destinations for All Seasons

"The unusual weathervane at the top of Faneuil Hall almost looks big enough to have hopped up there 270 years ago just to check out the view. The thirty-eight pound copper grasshopper has seen much of Boston’s history, and ingested some of it, too. Built in 1742 to reference the grasshopper on the Royal Exchange building in London, it began being used as a time capsule in 1761 with a note entitled “Food for the Grasshopper.” This first note recorded its history thus far, with such insect tales as “To my brethren and fellow grasshoppers, Fell …early in ye morning by a great earthquake by my old Master above,”  in reference to the earthquake of 1755 that shook the critter from its perch. Since then, coins and notes have been added; each time it was brought down for repairs, the contents were examined and then put back into its belly for future generations. Unfortunately, in 1974 the grasshopper went missing. It was found soon after, but its belly had been purged and its original contents never to be found. But don’t worry - the insect isn’t starving. A new round of documents and knick-knacks have begun to fill his gut once again. The craftsman behind the weathervane was America’s first documented weathervane maker, Shem Drowne. From his workshop in the North End, he produced a lot of Boston’s weathervanes: you can see more of his creations around town, from the rooster that now adorns the First Church in Cambridge to the swallow-tailed banner on Old North Church." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

"Faneuil Hall Sure, Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market make up the most touristy part of Boston , complete with street performers, a light show, and the obligatory Yankee Candle store and Cheers restaurant; we nonetheless defy you to stay away. This part of the Boston waterfront has thrived on commerce since colonial times: Faneuil Hall was crowded with merchant’s shops as early as 1743, and the larger Quincy Market was added in 1824 to provide more space (it also was the site of speeches by Samuel Adams and other early patriot leaders). If you’re looking for a Red Sox hat or a "Boston Strong" T-shirt, you’ll find it here, along with a classic New England boiled dinner served with attitude at Durgin Park . The restaurant’s basement beer garden, the Hideout, is aptly named for the shopping widowers passing time at the bar."

Google
Historical buildings, well maintained, safe environment with lots of kids running around, and many exciting food vendors as well as souvenir stands and stores; really a wonderful place to visit. When we were kids in the 70's the north and south malls were full of bright and creative stores, we walked up and down cool windy halls to stumble upon another even more amazing store .. unfortunately the current malls are first floor entry only, not the vibrant shopping mall we experienced then, oh well, the food court seems similar, still under construction as it always seems to be even back then .. the nicest part is that the highway is now underground and there's a park.

Google
It’s a great place to grab local delicacies. I took clam chowder from 2 shops and for same small size it’s cost $6 and $9. Also there are other several food items to choose from. Mostly are quite expensive items.

Akira Reinhardt

Google
This is an inferior choice compared to Philadelphia's Reading Terminal. Not a lot of variety and really overpriced. If you haven't been to Philly, this is probably fine. The stores are slightly more interesting than the food choices. Newbury comics is cool though!

Hailey McCain

Google
This was super cool to walk through. I like the stomp here and would recommend looking around. The food all looked good too. It was a little too dirty for my taste which is understandable with how many people there are but unfortunate. The stores were also not worth it and overly touristy. Fun to look around but I’d only recommend getting a food item.

Justin Delossantos

Google
Always fudge packed in here when I come here. So many places to choose and eat from. Only ate at a few places here so far. They got a bar at one end also and in the middle there is always some one playing an instrument or performing something.

Google
loved it!! especially the quincy market! full of great food and amazing atmosphere, right next to the pier..it's a must must visit. trythe clam soup in bread & the lobster soup ..its amazing

Google
Legendary & Iconic Market in Boston! If you come to Boston you will come here and it is well worth it. We really enjoyed all the little boutiques & shops. There was also a lot of street performer as it was summer. Overall a really good place to visit, we ended up buying a few souvenirs here and some food. We highly recommend it! If you are following the freedom trail this is like stop 11

Google
The food court is a visual stimulation for the taste buds. You want to try everything from shrimp rolls to clam chowder to ice cream, ribs, pizza bagels, noodles, oh so many things.

Yelp
Fun spot to explore in Boston. Came here on New Years Eve and it was busy. Enjoyed searching for the ice sculptures in the vicinity. Would return. It's next to Quincy Market which is a great spot to snack, hang out, people watch, etc.
google avatar

Brigitte L.

Yelp
Now this is a cool place to walk around. They have little shops for souvenirs and baked food. Restrooms downstairs. I really enjoyed walking around the shops and seeing what all they had. Ended up purchasing a few souvenirs for our trip. It's not too large of a place to walk around but they also have some seating available should you want to just sit and relax a bit.
google avatar

Jose B.

Yelp
Best place to chill snd grab some snacks. Sundays are the best. Park on top of of the Boston public market and get your ticket validated in one of the stalls for a special rate of $3 for up to 3 hrs. Normal rate is $16/hr. So don't forget to
google avatar

Yelp
Went on a girls trip to Boston and prior to arriving. I knew that this was one of the places I wanted to visit. As we got off the plane, we were all hungry and I figured this would be a great time to stop in. And boy was I right because there were a lot of different options. We had so many different types of food from local to exotic. There were a lot of cute little shops to stop in at and grab some gifts. This is a great place to stop in and explore. You have anything from a national park to a Taiwanese hotdog all in the same location.

Yelp
Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a huge market in Boston. Unfortunately, The Great Hall was closed in Faneuil Hall so I didn't get to check it out. Since 1742, this marketplace was a meeting place for business. Quincy Market is also located there and the first food hall in the U.S.! There are cobblestone throughout outside and so many people out and about. When we went on a Saturday, there were street performers singing and playing instruments. We were enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells. There's so much history! Across the street, there is the Boston Harbor. The Freedom Trail also goes through here. Overall, a spot you cannot miss when you're in Boston.

Yelp
If you wanna get a taste of Boston and get some shopping in and some people looking Faneuil Hall marketplace is a great place to go.
google avatar

Yelp
What a great place to be that has everything. Lots of lights as well very festive . With the holidays upon us what a great wonderful vibe . Parking is definitely difficult however plenty of garages near .
google avatar

Alison M.

Yelp
So I thought Faneuil Hall was the food hall. That's Quincy Market. Nearby Faneuil is actually a historic building (National Park) and the start for most of the Freedom Trail. There is a unique market on the first floor where you can browse for some keepsakes and colonial items as well as leather goods and a few other things before going to the second floor to see the historic Great Hall - where many historic speeches and decisions were made. It's free to visit and worth it to see such a rich piece of history.
google avatar

Shwe N.

Yelp
i find this place to be better than the boston public market to be honest! a long hall connected to the quincy market with hustling and bustling of different food vendors and touristy items!
google avatar

Patti W.

Yelp
Wow this place was busy. Make sure you go in hungry because there is so much to choose from. There was everything from main meals to desserts. There is also historical shopping and information
google avatar

Marilu F.

Yelp
One of the most popular tourist attractions in Boston, Faneuil Hall Marketplace is something else entirely. You have stores upon stores and even a section where there is what appears to be a history museum inside. Stuff at the shops is admittedly overpriced, but I nevertheless managed to get my sunglasses and allergy medication, so no complaints there from me Worth a visit, but note that it's packed, prices are above average, and you'll probably run into a person or two dressed up as a historical figure.
google avatar

Kahoku T.

Yelp
Love love LOVE this place! We were first timers of Boston and this place is reminicent of Pike Place in Seattle. Fresh Seafood, engaing vendors and delicious food options!
google avatar

Sherwin C.

Yelp
What a cool spot. It's super cool that in a single location I can get all my shopping and food needs with a dazzling array of options (though it's quite busy). The vibe is a bit touristy, but being busy and full of smiles and laughter makes it an enjoyable place to be. I also love seeing all the street performers outside to provide entertainment while exploring the area. For anyone staying at a nearby hotel, this feels like the ultimate one stop shop to experience a lot of the food and vibes of Boston in a very time efficient manner.
google avatar

Andrea B.

Yelp
"I found a wide selection of Boston swag to bring home, and I believe the items were reasonably priced. We also explored their expansive eatery inside where we tried pizza and smoothies; they were decent. What I remembered was the fast and efficient customer service. We chose to sit and enjoy our meal in the bustling marketplace's outdoor seating area, which provided a great spot for people-watching."
google avatar

George B.

Yelp
This place can be half the price of other places in Boston for the exact same products. Plus, the selection here is huge. And the location is right there at Market Bldge! If you are shopping for touristy things, this is your place to go!
google avatar

Reeya C.

Yelp
Faneuil Hall is a great spot if you want to check out a bunch of local restaurants. It's definitely packed with tourists and not locals, so if you're visting Boston, I recommend this place for the experience. I came in on the hunt for classic New England favorites, especially seafood. There are a variety of spots for this, and a lot of options for other cuisines, as well. I came in on a Friday afternoon and the area was busy, but not super crowded. There is seating both downstairs and upstairs in Quincy Market, but there's not a lot. There are benches outside too, so I recommend that if the weather is nice. The food spots are inside and the outdoor parts have vendors selling a variety of goods (jewelry, bags, trinkets, etc.). Most food vendors take card, but I'm not sure of the others. Ther is an ATM machine inside, though, if you need cash. P.S. They have restrooms here, too. But it's confusing to navigate to them. There's a sign with information on this under the rotunda, so I recommend reading that before trying to find it.
google avatar

Yelp
If your in Boston and want to try amazing Lobster rolls for a great price you need to come to this market! There are tons of options for spots to eat. My favorite location was Wicked Lobstah! I loved it so much I went back for a second plate. But in general, this is a great location to hang out and shop. There are so many shops and coffee spots located around the market. It's also located really close to the Constitution museum. Which is nice if you're into the sort of thing. It's also a great place to get souvenirs for your friends and loved ones.
google avatar

Julie P.

Yelp
Pretty much everything tourist and some historic landmarks. Bathrooms were clean and common are well maintained. Live music on most corners and lots of stalls with people selling various crafts, art and t-shirts etc. Enjoyed the experience of walking through it! check out the Coach store and Banana Republic.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
I mean, obviously one of my favorite places in Boston. I just came back to Boston after not having been here in like 15 years. nothing else was the same. There has been so much new growth in new businesses. And barely even recognize the streets. Thankfully of course Faneuil Hall marketplace was still there. And some of the staple businesses that were there or still there. The chowder of course. Seating is limited in here, so you either have to stand or be on the lookout and snag something as soon as someone gets up. Nice area to walk also.
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
This was a nice little tourist spot with many options for souvenirs and food. The food court part caters to many tastes, which is nice if you have a large group with you. I felt like the pricing was elevated based on the area, but with little time to spend traveling around the city, it gets the job done.
google avatar

Nico Samneil S.

Yelp
Basically a trade and dining place. Separated by 3 buildings named differently. Not really a stroller friendly place but a great place to enjoy the family
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
Ambiance: we went around Christmas right after visiting quincy market, so the place was completely packed. There wasn't an inch of seating and when we finally found a half empty standing desk the family next to us just kept giving us dirty looks. The shops in the area are cute though and definitely fun to explore during the holiday season. Food: overall nothing to write home about. In true marketplace fashion, there was a lot of optionality but not a lot of quality. We got the lobster roll, which was tiny considering how much we paid for it. Personally I'm not a huge fan of marketplace food.
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
Place is awesome! Outdoor entertainments like jugglers on stilts. Lots of shopping and restaurants available in that area. From tourist shops to Sephora and Urban Outfitters they have a little bit of everything for everyone. Not a shopper? Don't worry they have outdoor areas to buy and enjoy a beer while you wait for your loved ones to shop! Not sure about parking. We walked everywhere in Boston. They do have public restrooms available as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Love it or Hate it, you cannot come to Boston without taking some time to wander through "Faneuil Hall!" One of our favorite times of year to visit Quincy Market has always been around Christmas time - both for the kitsch and for last minute Christmas gifts It was a great afternoon wandering around the stores - touristy or not - and checking out which bars and restaurants have come and gone over the years! We are particular fans of the "Sam Adams Tap Room" and "Ned Devines" and we are interested to check out the New "Margaritaville" opening there soon! ...And this year...they had a CHRISTMAS DINOSAUR Could we ask for anything more? (Well...yes...we could...why the hell is their an animatronic dinosaur in "Faneuil Hall"? Anyone tell us? ) We have had so many great memories of this area, from buying gifts for our wedding party at the Christmas Store, to planning our move to Florida at the "Wagamama" - Faneuil has always been a special part of Boston for us! Be aware...the bathrooms are typically crowded and equipment broken. Wet floors are also typical. Although they're are cleaners around, it is it a pleasant place. There is only one central bathroom for the whole area and it shows! What do you think of "Faneuil Hall" and "Quincy Market"? Visited On 12/23/2021

Yelp
Faneuil Hall - a landmark of Boston. We just had to visit it when my friends and I came here for a short vacation. I was mostly here to explore and try the local Boston cuisine. This was just our first stop so we wanted to just get a quick bite while exploring. The food here is just okay, but not without being overpriced. Everything here is pretty much meant to gouge the wallets of locals and tourists alike. A packed marketplace hall with souvenir stands, lots of seafood fare and American food, along with some healthier options and desserts. You'll walk up and down, contemplating which stall to stand on line for. Finding seating to enjoy your meal is also a treasure hunt. Parking? Fuhgeddaboutit.
google avatar

Ashley E.

Yelp
Large selection of restaurants/ menu items, with a food truck vibe. The quality appears to look good, but nothing WOW's. I would still recommend to any tourist or visitor of Boston, but there are many other places to eat nearby!
google avatar

Kolee S.

Yelp
A must when in Boston! We had a beautiful weekend so was great to walk around, have a snack, eat a meal, or do our shopping. It wasn't our first visit , we popped in the last three visits, so we knew the prices vary depending on where you stop. In the end though we found great gifts for friends which are nicer than you find at a tourist shop!
google avatar

Lynn S.

Yelp
Cute area, ton of shops, lots of great food to choose from. You can everything from shirts to bubble tea and trinkets galore. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Willie S.

Yelp
Definitely the place to be. There is a lot to do and it a must see. Boston has lots to see and a lot of history. This place is definitely where you should start.
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
This reminds me a bit of the Chelsea market in Manhattan, except it's inside a much more historical building. It's an indoor market and there's lots of cute and unique shops along side of stores and chains we all know too. There's a lot of food options to keep you from hunger. There are great relics of our bygone years, like the cobble stones, ah be sure to wear comfy shoes while inside.
google avatar

Dena H.

Yelp
Great place to stop by if you're visiting from out of town or even a local. Tons of places to grab a quick bite. Perfect to split up from a group and everyone grabs what they are craving. There's also tiny story's in the area that you can shop at and pick up some souvenirs!
google avatar

Gina G.

Yelp
My son and daughter-in-law wanted to come here and get something to eat in Boston, on our way to Maine. First of all, we could find no street parking, so parked in nearby Parking Lot with crazy fees ($40 for 2 hours!) so I would recommend trying to find street parking. Once inside Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, we walked up and down the Food Colonnade to decide what to get to eat. We ended up getting: Clam Chowder from the Boston Chowda Co., Pepperoni Pizza from Regina's Pizzeria, a Hot Dog from the Doghouse, Raspberry Gelato and a Whoopie Pie. Our favorites? The pizza (which many people inside were eating) and the Gelato, which was fresh tasting and amazing. Try to get a fresh slice of pie, not the ones that have been sitting there that they reheat. This place is known as a Tourist Trap, and I guess it is, but a historic one, at least. There are certainly cheaper places to eat, but it was fun to walk around, and people watch. There are many other shops inside (mostly touristy) as well, with Boston stuff, t-shirts, fancy greeting cards etc...
google avatar

Ronni T.

Yelp
Good food selection with various shops. My boyfriend and I came to check out the Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall after we went to the Boston Public Market. Everything is closeby each other and we spent an entire day walking around the markets. I am a huge fan of local markets. My boyfriend who isn't a fan of walking around shopping malls enjoyed this. We got some souvenirs from Best of Boston. They did a great job wrapping up some fragile items we got. For food, we got the Clam chowder and lobster bisque from Boston Chowda and the soups tasted great! We also got a Wonton udon from this udon shop (I don't remember the name) and the broth was flavorful and warming on a cold day. We enjoyed our time here in Boston. The local markets are a great way to explore what Boston has to offer. They also had street performances which was cool as well!
google avatar

Gerald H.

Yelp
Stopped here and just realized we never came back for a slice from Regina Pizza - I'll add it to the list when we come back - but I liked it overall. I would recommend coming on a Saturday morning around 11:45am when places are open and ready to roll. We came a little too early but doubled back and I got a part of pants cheap at Qin-lo store and we walked through the shops and went thru places. There are also stores in the adjacent buildings. There are three buildings? in total I believe - one a food court type place that has stores behind it, another a building that has more clothing stores, and the final one with other stores at the head of the complex. I liked it. I can see it being very busy during normalcy. Maybe one day I'll get to see it like that.

Yelp
My family and I hung out and shopped here a while during our time in Boston. I hate shopping! I hate malls! Can't stand it, the lines, the people, it's just unpleasant... or perhaps a form of hell for me. I loved this marketplace though! I have never seen one like it, perhaps the closest thing to it would be Bayside Marketplace in Downtown Miami. Still Faneuil Hall Marketplace is much better. The first thing that caught my attention is the amount of street performers. I absolutely loved hearing this amazingly talented woman play her violin, but to modern music. I was impressed! I saw down nearby while having a nice milk shake and listened to her amazing talent. I will upload some videos separately. I also was shocked to see the living statute, mostly because I thought it was a statute and then it moved. I was also surprised to see that their are free classes given in the marketplace. For example, there was a free origami workshop advertised. If I lived nearby, I would certainly have taken it. The marketplace also has plenty of stores and restaurants to shop in. This is certainly a great place for tourists and locals to spend a few hours and enjoy.
google avatar

Jeremy C.

Yelp
One of the coolest marketplaces I've been to. Plenty of options for shopping, tourist traps, and souvenirs along with great dining and street performers everywhere. Not for the faint at heart though... seems to always be crowded and bustling, which can be hard to navigate throughout. But if you want to try some delicious local food, including some AMAZING arancini
google avatar

Jam J.

Yelp
Lots of food to try here especially the lobster roll! And some a little pricey popsicles.
google avatar

Cody L.

Yelp
It's a marketplace and a historic site all in one handy stop. Be sure to ask questions to the incredible park guides (s/o William Sitwell) who will give you some interesting facts and information about the original Market in old Boston.
google avatar

Yelp
Post COVID-19 life is returning to Beantown! This old school eatery with iconic Seafood, Italian and Asian cuisine makes this Ode to Red Auerbach, Beantown Sports, and the Pioneer Trail a longtime culinary tourist destination

Yelp
Food: As someone who went to school here, and has been in Boston for all of their adulthood, this place is a tourist trap. Everything is suuuper expensive and I've never tried anything there super life changing or whatever. There's a variety of food but I was never intrigued to try anything from there. Good thing is though if you want to get some food, there's a good amount of outdoor seating! Location: Fanueil Hall is in a super fun location - I strongly recommend going to the Haymarket Farmer's Market (usually 7am - 6pm on Fridays & Saturdays I think, but differs on the season), great produce for cheeeap prices, very fresh, some nice vendors. It's also pretty near the Seaport (20 ish minute walk), which again is a super fun area (with a ton of great restaurants). I love going to the Starbucks in Fanueil hall after my farmer's market. However, what I do love about Fanueil Hall is that it is LIVELY. During Christmas, the tree there is huuuuge, there are a ton of performers, beautiful lights, and fun stuff like I've seen people propose there and all. Great place to hang out with friends for sure.

Yelp
Decent food selection and overall just a cool place to visit when your in Boston and have some free time.
google avatar

Saroasha E.

Yelp
A lot of fun but super crowded! We had some good seafood. Bought a few ornaments and a magnet. Walked around quite a bit. Enjoyed seeing all the cute carts with some unique stuff.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
I went shopping here last week We were looking for a local Sunday Funday. I bought the most unique gifts on several pushcarts. I also needed a special gift for a first communion and I found the perfect bracelet. Customer service was on point & I had the best clam chowder, I ever had. Definitely worth the trip.
google avatar

Steve Z.

Yelp
Decided to avoid the crowds and visit in the early evening when throng was much diminished and live music outside Quincy Hall commenced. Got to hit most of the shops at a relaxing pace. Touristy? You bet! Still fun? Indeed. Would definitely return to visit the historic Faneuil Hall itself and see where the debates on freedom began. Mahalo for reading my review.
google avatar

Brad M.

Yelp
Good Food. Good Shops to buy some memories or Christmas tree ornaments. Just a great Boston thing to visit while be here
google avatar

Anita V.

Yelp
Flew in from Florida and heard that this is a good place to come explore. They have many small businesses including jewelry ones (which I am personally addicted to), children's stores , clothing stores, and tons of food options. There is also performers such as magic, singing, and dancing.
google avatar

Kat M.

Yelp
There is a decent selection of foods at Faneuil Hall. I decided to opt for the Mexican food and got the double empanada plate that included pico, rice, and beans. I ordered the beef and cheese and jalapeño and cheese empanadas as my choices and was not impressed once I began eating them. They were previously cooked and reheated in the microwave, so this fried food became soggy-ish. Then when I did my best at attempting to eat them, they had about 5% cheese filling and the rest was either beef or jalapeño, respectively. The rice was salty and the beans were black beans, likely from a can. However, the pico was very tasty and I would have liked a larger portion of that since most of lunch ended up in the garbage. My suggestion is to try the taco salad if you want Mexican since the veggies are fresh and flavorful. Service was friendly and fast, and that is valuable. Next, I was craving a Boston cream pie. So, I stepped over to a bakery with delicious looking desserts and paid $8 for a cream pie and paid a teen girl who never looked at me and barely spoke to me. Once I got back to my bench and started eating the cream pie I was completely disappointed because it had obviously been made at a commercial production center, frozen, and sent over. I'm okay with Mexican food not being great in Boston, but the Boston Cream Pie needs to be on point.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
It's a nice place to be around, but inside the Hall I just wasn't feeling it. The merchants aren't that exciting and it seemed too commercial to me. It's also not that big with less vendors than I thought would be there. Prices were so so.

As a Californian tourist, this place was a gold mine for souvenirs. I got my fill of magnets, shirts for the kids, and sweaters emblazoned with the names of the nearby universities (full disclosure: I bought an MIT sweatshirt for myself hoping my toddler will eventually fit into it and become a self-fulfilling prophecy shut up I'm allowed to dream lol) The Boston Chowda Co. served the best New England chowder and lobster bisque we'd ever had, which was great because we literally walked to the other end of the Common and then back to Faneuil just for their food. The people working in Faneuil were also quite nice, directing us to the quickest way to the rest room, and informing us of which stalls were independently women-owned.
