Stunning hike from Sognefjellshytta to Fannaråkhytta whilst on the Massiv hike- we were very lucky with the weather and had panoramic views from the top. Highly recommend the guided glacier hike which you can book through DNT, otherwise you can circumnavigate the glacier and come through Vetle Utladalen. If you don't stay at Fannaråkhytta, it is possible to hike down to Skogadalsbøen on the same day. Apparently there's a good camping spot near the river crossing at Storebruj before Skogadalsbøen, though we decided to hike to Vormeli emergency hut (Utledalsholet). This required hacking through 4km of non-DNT path from Gjertvassbøen, and it was boggy, difficult to follow, and occasionally very steep, but the hut was extraordinary!

In good weather conditions, it is a safe hike up Fannaråken from Turtagrø: the trail is very well made. The important thing is that you are in very (!) good shape for the 1200 meters of ascent. It is especially nice to camp on the snowfield behind the hut. The view of the sunset from there is particularly beautiful. If you camp on Fannaråken, you have to pay a fee at the hut: For 3 people about EUR 50 - for which you are allowed to use the toilets. If you camp and want to have dinner in the hut, you have to book in advance for the meal. Otherwise there is nothing to eat. Water is available at a spring near the snowfield.

Climbing up was hard, but the sight from the top was really nice. We went there in the second week of July, and there was still some snow around.

If you find a copy of "Zen in the Art of Climbing Mountains" in the cabin. It's probably the one I left there in 1993😀
