We finally made it to Farmhouse Pottery, located in one of my favorite places to escape to, the sweetest little quintessential New England town of Woodstock!
It's everything I had imagined...clean, bright, simplistic, inspirational. The aesthetic is so perfectly minimalist. I clearly remember staying while perusing "this place makes my heart happy".... and it does!
Each piece is hand made by a hardworking crafter right there in the back. In fact, you can watch them work the wheel when you visit, and it's just the coolest! Each work table will display which of their signature pieces they're working on that day, and the potters are happy to explain to you their process. This all makes a stop here so much more than a shopping stop, but an experience!!
Each piece, while classically and traditionally made, is also modern in the sense that is inspired by life, for example their honey pots are shaped perfectly for honey jars to fit right in etc. The pieces are so carefully thought-out to conform to everyday modern life, yet still timeless and elegant.
They even make and decorate the shop with so many seasonal goods to get you in the spirit of whatever season it is! When we visited in December, it was covered with beautiful little trees all about, and ornaments too.
They have both a wide a variety of speciality pieces, as well as so many for everyday use.
If pottery isn't your thing, they sell delicious smelling hand-poured soy candles with essential oils (I recently picked up their Wassail scent, named for the famous weekend here in December we attend annually, and I'm obsessed with it!!). They also sell locally made jewelry, home goods, clothing and knitwear, as well as some specialty books. I personally LOVE the winter cocktail book for my bar cart around the holidays and the Alpine Cookbook for winter! So fun!!
*Oh, and they also sell pinch pots made by the owners young daughters. How sweet!!!
The staff couldn't have been more friendly and our visit any lovelier. They completed this experience for us by offering candy canes and the most insanely perfect complimentary hot apple cider.
No one should miss a stop here when in Woodstock. It's really what the community and town is all about....small, family-owned and operated businesses, and keeping handmade small batch old school artisan pieces and craft alive.
Prices reflect the care and execution put into the goods, and I while others may, I don't mind paying it for such quality work.
