"You can’t miss the Stawamus Chief Mountain when you travel to Whistler via the Sea to Sky Highway. The granite edifice, the tallest monolith north of Yosemite, provides afine introduction tohowstone shapes and defines thislandscape. Fathom Stone Art is a gallery dedicated to artists' work in the local granite as well as marble, jade, quartz, and many other minerals. The grizzlies on display here, carved by founding sculptor Jon Geoffrey Fathom, are particularly popular. Examples of iconic inuksuit, thetall stone markers used by peoples of the Arctic region, are displayed alongsidecontemporary sculptures from leading stone artists across the region. Many of these sculptors began their careers as Fathom apprentices. You can, too, by signing up for a soapstone art carving class."

We signed up for the sandstone carving class and Jon was so accommodating and experienced from start to finish. I loved talking to him, it went by too fast. My daughter was so happy with finished piece of jewelry. Thank you so much!

What an incredible experience for my art-loving kids at the Fathom Stone Art Gallery, located on level 1 of the Westin Resort & Spa hotel. During the stone carving class, Jon was incredibly patient, generously sharing his experience and many technical stone-carving techniques. He also had on hand all the equipment under the sun required to carve the desired details into the soap stone. What an incredible memory my kids will enjoy for many many years to come ❤️. The art gallery itself also included beautiful works by many different local artists. If you're nearby, or love sculptures I highly recommend a visit! Thank you Jon!!

This is my favorite thing to do in Whistler. I’m 16 and I’ve been doing this every year for the past 5 years as a tradition. All my family and I love doing the classes together. The class schedule is extremely flexible as well. I highly recommend to try this. Too fun!

Gorgeous gallery!! Awesome collection of carvings, sculptures and jewelry. Jon is extremely knowledgeable and professional. My daughter took a stone class... she told everyone she encoutered how excited she was beforehand, and raved about it after! Besides her beautiful creation, Jon helped her quickly turn a simple rock into a pendant she's so proud of. We'll be checking in again on our next Whistler trip for certain!

Unexpected highlight of our ski trip was carving our own Inukshuk! John was awesome and while it wasn’t always easy the process is so rewarding. Weirdly, I think theirs may be one of the highlights of out trip!

Terrific experience with artist & instructor Jon, for my Stone Carving Class. An extensive selection of carving tools combined with Jon's engaging instruction made for a great afternoon. Highly recommended for both kids and adults!

Our kids had a great time taking the stone carving art class with John. He was a great instructor and very attentive to all their questions and curiosities. A memorable 2 hour spent learning and creating custom art pieces that they took home.

Yelp
An amazing experience for 12 year old. So glad she took the time inside to create a forever keepsake. Amazing process that took her close to 3 hours but you can't rush the process! Charles was very patient and kind and offered just enough support when needed. Pieces offered for sale in the gallery are amazing as well!

Yelp
The Fathom Stone Art Gallery & Studio has a lot of really interesting sculptures and other artwork. Much of it is carved from Brucite - a stone I was not familiar with until my visit to Fathom. The stuff here is really pricy, but it is also really high quality and well made. Very artistic and cool! A lot of thought, time, blood, sweat, tears, and love has gone into these creations. My favorites included a number of carvings of Bears, trout, and salmon. We met Jon Fathom, the owner of the shop. He took a good bit of his time to explain to us how things are carved, where they obtain the Brucite, and some of the work that goes into his pieces. He has many other pieces of art and sculpture available for sale from other artists as well. I would love to own some of the Bear carvings, but they are out of my price range. But I still appreciate them for their beauty and the craftsmanship that when into them! Very enjoyable!
