5 Classic Films to Inspire Your Next Italian Vacation

"Lucy’s travels around the city take her to Dante’s Tomb, the Villa di Maiano, and the Tuscan countryside of Fiesole, where she experiences her first kiss. With its painted ceilings, antique tapestries, Murano glass chandeliers, and manicured gardens, the 15th-century Villa di Maiano is both a favorite set for Hollywood filmmakers and the perfect backdrop for a Tuscan wedding."

The Place Firenze Hotel Will Show You a New Side of Florence - AFAR

"A distinctive agriturismo in the hills offering a pool, on-site apartments, an olive oil mill, honey production and a restaurant; visitors can book loggia dinners with distant views of Florence and take a playful safari tour with a young owner—spotting wild boar, rabbit and deer, harvesting cherry tomatoes, and visiting a quarry historically used by Michelangelo—while the farm supplies olive oil and eggs to neighboring hotels and restaurants." - Annie Fitzsimmons

Incredibly disappointing - specifically, a horrible experience with the exceptionally rude restaurant manager. I feel robbed of what could have been a lovely evening. We were grossly overcharged as a result of a mistake made by the waitress, and this was subsequently not admitted to and we received no refund (!). We ordered a steak for dinner for 2 people and the waitress told us to order 600g. We ordered 600g. We get the bill and see we were actually served 1.7kg. The mischarged difference was almost 60 euros. Ultimately it's not really about the money. It's the principle. This place treats its customers poorly. Would never stay again and strongly recommend you instead consider one of the many other lovely places to stay in Florence. Rooms are also very gloomy and soulless.

The Farm and Botanical Gardens are one of a kind. The overlook into Florence and Fiesole is a sight to behold. The food is always fresh. This is a true farm to table dining place. The rooms are actually quite large. The pool is great for the hot days and just to relax. This place is so kid friendly. I see why so many locals come to this place.

Our room was massive and beautiful with an unbelievable view. We stayed in Terraza. Staff was friendly, pool was incredible. Very relaxing stay, highly recommend. AC in room was better than most we’ve had in Italy. Mattresses were a bit uncomfortable. Great place to stay with children. It’s a bit of a trip if you intend to do a lot in the city. 20-30 minute taxi, about $30-$45 each way. But there’s two restaurants a short walk up the road that were good and the food on property is also great.

While the hotel staff was very friendly and communication via WhatsApp worked well, the overall experience did not meet our expectations. The location offers a beautiful elevated view, but that was one of the few highlights.||The room we were assigned felt more like a basement than a proper hotel room. Although we were offered an alternative, it was also very old and did not match the photos shown on the website, which we found misleading. Additionally, the room had an unpleasant odour – a mix of wine smoke and something musty – that made us feel uncomfortable.||The breakfast was another disappointment. Much of the food had already been affected by the heat and looked unappetising. The pool area is nicely designed, but there were no shaded areas available during our stay. The outdoor shower by the pool was full of wasps and therefore unusable.||Although the setting is quiet and scenic, it’s quite inconvenient if you rely on taxis – they need to be ordered at least 45 minutes in advance, making spontaneous plans difficult.||Ultimately, we were so disappointed that we decided to check out earlier than planned.

We went here for a day tour of the farm. It was big enough that you can easily spend a day exploring the animal farms, the olive orchards, the little lake and riding ponies. Highly recommended for families with small kids.

Beautiful place that we were so lucky to stay! We spent a night in the tower and enjoyed spending a day exploring the property, having a big lunch at the restaurant, and feeding the animals. The people are so kind and helpful and the views can't be beat.

If you like "rural" you're absolutely gonna love this place! Exceptional friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, an astonishing view over Florence, the spectacular restaurant "il pescatore" near by! It's paradise!

Lies on the website & fake reviews? I’m baffled. This overrated overpriced ghost town promised exceptional quality… served up average at best. A list of lies: - animals/feeding: expect a large hot valley and electric fences. Toss food at animals and walk long distances to discover the next patch of donkeys lying down - “farm to table” (WHAT?!!!): expect a cafe with super average quality olive oil, wine and entrees like you’d make at home for an average lunch. Below Italian everyday standards. - kids play while you eat: Nope. There are no animals by the restaurant - made for kids: NO. The grounds and activities are too spread out for children under six years old. - fancy olive oil? Hand to heart, the stuff we got at Autogrill was better. Scathing of me to say but honestly I’m dead serious (how are they charging 90 euro for an olive oil tasting? It can’t be their own…) - Image of lovely but relaxed bubbling with life: expect a ghost town. Maybe it is different in the summer? We found it rather depressing Finally, Gorgeous views: check! Meets expectations. Come here for all your “fake rustic glamour” instagram selfies but go home before you pay for a single tomato

Yelp
We had a group dinner in a private dinning area in the villa. I met the owners daughter, who is the mgr. She is very sweet and knowledgeable. I didn't get to see this property in the daylight but, its a 300 acre farm and vineyard with a restaurant We had pork medallions with veggies, red wine, fresh bread w/olive oil [all of which was homegrown] I had to buy some of their biscotti and cooking olive oil to bring back to the States Highly recommend

Yelp
This place is definitely lovely to visit! The food, however, is hit or miss. I think we enjoyed most of there pasta and vegetable items, but the chicken was way over cooked. My mother-in-law even thought they might have reheated it.

Yelp
Part of the family vacation was to tour Florence and that's how we ended up coming here. They have a farm, an olive oil and wine factory and a restaurant on property. We were lucky enough to be given a tour by the owner's son, Tomasso who was handsome enough to make teenage girls that were there swoon. They have acres of land with olive trees and grape vines. They have donkeys. It's so green, pretty and peaceful. Tomasso told us how they make their olive oil here. They press the olives once giving the oil a green color - extra virgin. The pressed olives are then fed to animals or some other olive oil producers buy the discarded olives to make more olive oil. They take pride in what they make here. We had dinner at the restaurant. The ingredients were fresh since they came from the farm outside. We had bruschetta. We were also given focaccia that we rubbed fresh garlic on and dipped in olive oil - the flavor was intense! Can't get any better than this. We had wine and chicken cacciatore - the sauce was superb and the chicken was juicy and tender.

Yelp
If you're tired of churches, museums, and the crowds in Florence, this oasis on the Fiesole hills, a 20-30' taxi ride from the Duomo, is the place! The gigantic grounds were consolidated in the 19th century by an English gentleman, Sir Giovanni Temple Leader. Peaceful views over the city. It has a hotel with restaurant, a playground for children (lots of class outings during the school year), an animal farm, an olive farm with olive oil mill. Mainly for walkers, as what is to see doesn't take long to admire, especially when it's scorching hot. Very nice staff at reception.
