Post-Olympics, Japan’s New Hotels Will Be Worth Traveling For

"You are going to want to book into the new Fauchon Kyoto not just for its French influence (yes, it is “Fauchon” of French patisserie fame) but because, in a city dripping with exceptional hotels including the Ace and the Aman, Fauchon somehow bagged the best location in town. The 70 rooms overlook the Kamo River and are within strolling distance to the historic Matsubara bridge and Shijo Kawaramachi shopping district, not to mention the 1,600 Buddhist temples and 400 Shinto shrines dotted all over town. At this second boutique hotel by the Parisian brand, magenta-colored furniture are accented with golden sakura petals to celebrate its Japanese location. Rooms are decorated with washi paper and the hotel offers traditional tea ceremonies as well as Fauchon French goodies like millefeuille pastries by local bakery, Izutsu."

FAUCHON L’Hotel Kyoto (Kyoto Prefecture, Japan) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s long been the case that just about any European cuisine is represented at its very best in Japan; Fauchon L’Hôtel tests this proposition, as the French culinary arts brand Fauchon has created a hotel in Kyoto that’s both authentically Japanese and perhaps more Parisian than most hotels in Paris. The rooms are stunning, with hot pink accents against a monochrome Art Deco–inspired backdrop. And the food and beverage outlets, naturally, are particular strengths, from the Salon de Thé and the on-site patisserie to the Grand Café restaurant and, remarkably enough, the first-ever Fauchon Spa." - Tablet Hotels

What a wonderful experience! I will start by saying the accommodation is excellent. The rooms are well designed, clean, and comfortable. The snacks and tea selection in your room is delicious. The customer service was exceptional. Anytime I came to the lobby I was taken care of immediately. The staff made me feel very cared for. After a long day of walking around Kyoto, it was always pleasant to come back to this beautiful accommodation and soak in the tub. It was the easiest part of my trip!

My family and I arrived at Fauchon Hotel Kyoto in early-August for a three night stay. Upon stepping into this chic French-influenced oasis, we were treated like royalty. Staff had us sit down at a table and served ice water, green tea and a macaron while we were swiftly checked in. Rooms were nice, well appointed with clear elements of French influence (touches of gold and pink throughout the room) which blended well with the Japanese touches. The hotel is also well situated within easy walking distance (about 10 mins) from restaurants, shops and an active night life.||Breakfast at the hotel restaurant is a la carte (as opposed to the usual buffet) and the options and food quality has been very good. Overall, I have been pleasantly surprised by my experience and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel. Also, by booking through Amex Travel, we had breakfast included as well as a $100 credit per room which was a a nice bonus.||Credit to the exceptional staff who go above and beyond to make each guest feel special. I would definitely recommend.

Absolutely fantastic 5 star experience. This hotel is gorgeous, very glam and fun with pink and black accents. The customer service here is where they really shine, absolute 10/10 experience. For check in we were greeted with a comfortable place to relax, tea and macarons, and coloring pages and pencils for the children. The children were so happy they didn’t want to leave! ||Our rooms were spacious and comfortable with big bathrooms. The location can’t be beat with easy access to food and shopping. ||We had some times we were late for meals and instead of saying we missed them, they set up meals for us in the lounge area. The staff are absolutely amazing and I am recommending all my friends and family to stay here in Kyoto. ||I would also look for further Fauchon hotels in the future.

So totally transformed our experience of Kyoto! We came here at the last minute after a very rude staff interaction at another Kyoto hotel, and it was like night turning to day. Momoka at the Fauchon came running out to meet our taxi and we were escorted to a checkin table where we sat and were offered tea and snacks while they swiftly checked us in (early—at noon). Through an American Express Travel deal we received a free upgrade to a suite as well as $100 food and beverage credit, as well as free breakfast at the splendid top floor restaurant overlooking the river and mountains. ||The breakfast was top quality with a perfect French omelette made to order, fresh basket of pastries, sustainable eggs and local yogurt, fresh squeezed juices, small fruit salad, and a light salad with yuzu dressing. Dinner overlooking the river and mountains was also top quality, both a La carte and prix fixe options available.||The suite was fabulous with a well stocked series of treats (complimentary), a huge stone onsen tub, views of the mountains and plenty of room including a walk in closet stocked with pajamas, slippers, and bathrobes. ||After the stress of the prior hotel experience I took a massage downstairs and had a relaxing treatment, dozing off in the private room with a friendly and communicative masseuse. When we ventured out we were right in the heart of old town Kyoto with many traditional stores, museums, geisha district and riverside stroll. ||There is a wonderful Fauchon store downstairs which like its Paris parent has artisan pastries, light sandwiches, brand goods and packaged foods. Fauchon of course is a centuries old French bakery and foods provider with a brand just recently expanded to Japan (the hotel is about 4 years old and the new, stylish furnishings were top notch).||The manager of guest relations, Daigetsu, went out of his way to research artisan shops for certain crafts which were unique to Kyoto, even to the point of researching options after I had left for the day (without my asking him) and providing them to me when I returned to the hotel. He and the other staff speak fluent English and were uniformly helpful and friendly, even coming out to the curb after calling our taxi to bid us farewell.||All in, from the staff behavior to the plush new furnishings, many complimentary amenities, central location and top notch Brand, we were utterly pleased with Hotel Fauchon. As extensive world travelers, my wife and I would rank this hotel in the highest tier…and yet it is priced well below where its peers are. We enthusiastically recommend this hotel to the point of it being a magnet for us to return to Kyoto again.

We recently stayed at Fauchon as part of the Kyoto leg of our honeymoon. From start to finish the experience was amazing. The staff are the highlight of the hotel, particularly Nanami and her manager who always seemed so happy to see us. They couldn’t do enough for you and made our stay a memorable one.|The hotel is in great location for access to gion, and stations to get to all the major attractions.

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and offered a refreshing welcome drink. I had messaged the hotel a few weeks prior about a request and they remembered which was very personalized.||The hotel is in a good location in Koto, just near the river and a short walk to most of the major attractions. There are many restaurants in the area to choose from. ||The first night my wife and I ate dinner in the restaurant, the quality of the food was sensational, however the main meal was more like a starter, desert as also magnificent. There is a bar on the 10th floor that served the best house champagne.||Breakfast is order from the menu which is elegantly presented and the salad, fruit and yogurt were delicious. The coffee was also quite good, you could order what you wanted, there was also|a selection of bread and croissants.||The rooms a large and well-appointed with lots of amenities. The bar/fridge was stocked with lots of sweets to take home or eat in your room. We had a king size bed; however, it was just 2 single beds pushed together which was ok, but the sleep quality was excellent.||The bathroom is large enough and has a shower room with a bath. The toilets in Japan are fantastic, fully automatic. There is also a coffee maker with Nespresso pods in your room.||We had a room on the road side which was a little nosy, so I would recommend asking for a room on the river side which may have a better view.||Overall, it’s a newish hotel, the staff are very welcoming and extremely friendly and helpful.

A great hotel with outstanding staff who were always very helpful and forever smiling. Sean who manages the hotel and many other hotels was outstanding and extremely helpful each and every day of our stay. Along with him Daisuke san was at the concierge desk and suggested so many good places to eat with vegetarian choices. They went out of their way to help build our itinerary, make suggestions, help book a Toyota Car Rental. The hotel is well located and just a 5 min walk from Kyoto downtown which is lively and charming. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The only shortcoming of the hotel was their very limited breakfast menu even though they had options for people who stayed longer with them but a good buffet breakfast is always a great start to the day and that seemed missing.

We recently spent three nights at the Fauchon Hotel Kyoto, the experience was nothing short of exceptional.|We had the pleasure of enjoying the Club Level service, which elevated our stay. The culinary offerings were a delight. |We received impeccable service, and in particular, we would like to extend our thanks to Daisuke Fukuda, the Guest Relation Manager. Mr. Fukuda exemplifies the highest standards of hospitality. We left with fond memories and look forward to returning.

Yelp
I stayed at the Fauchon Hotel in Kyoto while on vacation and it was truly a dream! After a long travel day, we were warmly greeted by the hostess, who promptly took our bags to our room. While the staff prepared our check-in paperwork, we were invited to relax in the lobby with tea and French-inspired snacks. Such a luxe touch that set the tone for the rest of our stay. We booked a king suite, and the room exceeded expectations. It featured two separate bathrooms: one with a Japanese-style bidet and the main with a tub, shower, and vanity. The dining area was fully equipped with a hot water kettle, Keurig, and a stocked bar, along with complimentary snacks. Plush robes, slippers, and a full set of toiletries were also available. Breakfast was another highlight: a primarily Western-inspired spread with Japanese touches like miso soup. The dining room overlooks the Kamo River, and in the mornings we enjoyed watching bikers and runners pass by, with temples and historical sites visible in the distance. One of the most memorable moments came at checkout, when the staff noticed we hadn't fully used our $100 Amex credit. Instead of letting it go, they kindly offered us items from the gift shop so it wouldn't go to waste, a thoughtful gesture that really showcased their attention to detail and genuine care for guests. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of public transportation and Kyoto's main shopping district, as well as Gion and Pontocho, where much of the city's food scene comes alive. Fauchon Kyoto blends Parisian elegance with Japanese hospitality, and I would 100% stay here again. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a truly luxurious Kyoto experience!

Yelp
What a great find! This hotel was exquisite. When you enter, you are greeted by the concierge who will escort you to the elevator. They tell you that the reception desk is on the 10th floor, and your luggage will be waiting for you in your room. They will swipe their card, press the 10th floor button, and you're on your way to a great stay. While checking in, you're brought macarons and tea. The bar is across the room. The check-in process is quick. The staff are all so friendly and hospitable. Room service is unbelievably quick. Granted, we only ordered champagne, but it was in our room in less than 10 minutes. This hotel is luxurious, but not pretentious. I look forward to returning next year!
