Fazenda Nova Country House, near Tavira, Algarve, Portugal - Explore & Book

"Hidden in the orange groves near Tavira, Fazenda Nova – meaning “New Farm”– offers boutique luxury with a distinctly Portuguese flavour. Run by friendly English owners, this tranquil countryside retreat delivers a modern, carefully curated experience in the lesser-known Eastern Algarve. Drink in the citrus-scented air, stroll the property’s sprawling grounds, full of olive trees, and surrender to a slower pace of life. It’s an intimate space with 13 bedrooms and an eclectic design influence throughout, inspired by the owners' travels. Stylish touches like polished concrete floors and modern furniture meet traditional Santa Catarina tiles, vintage accents, and bold, colourful artwork by local artists. The serenity of Fazenda Nova is a refreshing departure from the built-up spots in the Algarve – yet you have some of the best beaches and holiday destinations nearby (that’s if you can bear to leave – we found it hard). Relaxation is the order of the day around here, so curl up with a book in one of the luxurious poolside Balinese beds and let the delicious procession of snacks and drinks begin, punctuated by refreshing dips in the saltwater swimming pool. The peace is intoxicating. Highs Enjoy nothing but birdsong in this remote countryside location – yet you’re 15 minutes from the closest beach and Tavira, and 30 minutes from Faro Airport The saltwater swimming pool is a lazy daydream come true: you will not want to stray far from it The grounds are stunning: beautifully landscaped with pathways carved through abundant gardens, carob and olive trees We loved the eclectic design – the perfect blend of modern and vintage, Portuguese and English influences Lows You’ll need a car (or taxi) to get here and to visit nearby beaches and towns The set menu may be a bit pricey for some but there’s also an à la carte option Loft Suites have private roof terraces with great views but they’re on the small side Beaches in this area are less accessible: get there by pedestrian bridges, or a short train or ferry ride" - Leona Ford

Massive suites and a fantastic retreat hotel, we had a wonderful long weekend experience of a real getaway from the daily grind and able to relax from our stressful lives as self employed business people.||The staff pampered us from start to finish and treated us more like family and were also very accommodating to our dietary needs and loved the laid back timetable you could set for your meals. The farm to fork meals approach made the food tasty and fresh as some of the produce was even from the hotel gardens. Thank you to Isabel for all the wonderful and healthy meals she cooked and Wellington who catered for our sushi night. Also the personal attention to detail and information provided by Henrique and Nuno. Also to Dipendra and Alistair and of course the cleaning staff who seemed to magically and immaculately clean up the rooms whilst we had breakfast.||As a family we had rooms 2 & 3 which was attached to the reception building and had an outer door so became a private suite of 2 rooms both with large bathrooms and fantastic rainfall showers. You could tell from the high quality of bathroom fittings and bedroom furniture complete with beautiful furnishings that no expense had been spared. Each of our rooms also had a private veranda with outdoor furniture whilst the larger room also had a dressing room and sofas with coffee table.||The kids loved the extra activities including snooker room, darts area, swimming pool and also enjoyed using the mountain bikes in the late evening when it became cooler. ||When we weren’t relaxing, we used the inexpensive Ubers to travel into Tavira, Faro and even over to the bustling marina town Vilamoura.||In all our years of traveling mainly to chain hotels, we had the best ever hospitality experience in a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Thank you so much John and Jackie for creating a wonderful boutique hotel retreat that we will be looking to visit again.

The hotel is beautiful and well kept. The room was clean, decorated nicely and matched the photos. The pool was a bit grubby on day 1 but was cleaned during our stay and is a eco-pool so is expected to be not chlorinated-clean.||The food on our first evening meal was horrendous - inedible. Nothing like any photos I had seen prior on trip advisor or their instagram. The breakfast each morning was very average.we had to ask for bread one day despite being given ham and cheese and had to ask for butter and jam. There was a menu of extra things like pancakes and omelettes that could be paid for but none of this was offered. We complained about the food and nobody spoke to us about it. We messaged a manager and they admitted it was them cooking and not a chef - why not tell us there was no chef so we could have eaten elsewhere? They were going to charge us full price for a meal cooked by a manager?!||The staff spent most of their time on their phones when visible or were no where to be seen. There was a bar but often nobody there to get you a drink and the gas was off so no draft beer. The staff were polite when spoken to but clearly had no interest in their jobs.||I would describe the place more as nice rooms and a nice pool area but not a hotel. The service and lack of edible food was really disappointing and not worth the price at all. It doesn’t appear this place is still the same place that won all the awards on display!

No jam today, no jam tomorrow.|Where to start?|My husband and I came here a few times before Covid, it was fabulous so cool, attentive staff beautifully well kept, gorgeous we were really looking forward to our return, a 4 day pre birthday/anniversary treat.|What a disappointment.|I had the first inking that something wasn't right when we arrived by taxi. The grounds1 once beautifully maintained were over run with weeds |. |Upon arrival in reception I noticed that all of the beautiful quirky bits and pieces were missing. We told the manager (a very nice guy) that we had been before and loved it, hence our return visit. We were then informed that it was now under new management.||We were very hot and thirsty and asked for 2 small beers, what we received were 2 glasses of froth from a member of staff who didn't know how to pour one. Nor could he work the coffee machine, very poor, he tried to explain that he was just learn ing. If you're not up to scratch you shouldn't be serving.|We had asked for dinner to be served at night, they only cook if you pre order. Husband asked for 2 Gordon's and tonic before dinner, they managed1 and a tanqueray, but no more Gordon's were available, dinner was OK, we had a bottle of Alvorinio, th 1e last one in the building as it turns out,|Upon entering our room husband went to use the safe, it didn't work. Despite repeated requests for it to be fixed, it still wasn't sorted by our departure, we were told that the handyman had unexpectedly gone on holiday. The light on the staircase up to our room (10) never worked, the room had loads of damp patches.|We arrived on Tuesday, on Wednesday early afternoon I asked if there was anything that we could have for lunch, Fazenda Nova being in the middle of nowhere. There was absolutely nothing on offer, not a snack nothing. A far cry from when it was in the previous owners hands. So if you're going, take something to snack on.|On Thurs/day we chose to leave and to spend the day and evening in Tavera, if you're going, catch the ferry out to the island, we had a great time and had dinner in the town, so good.|On Friday morning we sat down to breakfast. Fazenda Nova make their own delicious jam. We were presented with the breakfast but no jam, upon asking for it we were informed that they didn't have any, and that the cook was to go shopping for it. Strange as it was homemade. On Friday I met the new owner, he asked me if Fazenda Nova was better or the same as before. I explained that it was absolutely nowhere near as good as it was. He told me that the staff were all new. They were absolutely not 1 bit interested, apart from the manager, who apologised at having to say no to us on so many occasions.. We checked out on Saturday morning, still no jam.|We were advised by members of the staff that as they weren't busy as yet, we weren't getting the experience that we paid for.|We will never be back. It's such a shame but we have never had a worse experience, it became a joke with us in the end. A very expensive joke.|This review has been written by someone who absolutely loved Fazenda Nova, and has been written with a heavy heart.11|||||||||.|.

We were told we could have dinner with proper notice which we gave. The manager said he wasn’t working at nite but might be able to find someone to cook. We said we’ll go out only to return & find other guests eating. Then we asked for ice and were told we’d have to find and buy our own. Cannot recommend this place. The cleanliness was not great. Nothing close by & no place to buy ice. Perhaps anti American?

Amazing! Every detail has been thought about. The rooms are large, have super comfortable big beds, beautifully decorated, incredible bathrooms with heated floors, etc. the staff is so kind and helpful and the owners are wonderful. We had a change in plans and they were more than happy to accommodate what we asked for. Rooms and property is immaculately maintained and beautiful. So quiet and peaceful. The breakfast is also great. We will certainly be back. Thanks again.

What an absolute gem. Our second visit and already booked for September 2025. The attention to detail is impeccable. Peace and quiet, top marks on comfort. If you wish to be alone, there are so many secluded area for you to do so, and if your preference is to be with the others, that is also available. The staff were so attentive. The host's, John & Jakkie can’t do enough for you, their sole purpose is to exceed your expectations (And for us they have, every time.) Fazenda Nova is situated only 15 mins, by car from the beautiful costal town of Tavira. Fazenda Nova is truly one of the most peaceful holidays we have ever had.

Pure bliss - a post Christmas break, last minute booking that couldn’t have been improved on.|Fazenda Nova is a fabulous, serene, stunningly beautiful boutique hotel in a location that is less than 15 minutes to beaches and local fishing towns and villages and 10 minutes from major road links.||The atmosphere is so relaxed and the staff do everything they can to ensure your stay is perfect. Our suite was exactly what we needed, my partner loved a good shower and I love a soak - the en suite bathroom had a double sized shower with great water pressure (usually an issue) and also great free standing bath tub for me!! The comfiest and biggest Super sized bed, loads of wardrobe space, an extra cloakroom with loo (always useful) and great tilt and turn windows complete with mosquito nets, a little thing but really important in summer. The place was also spotless everywhere.||One of our favourite things was the relaxed approach to breakfast time - no fixed times so if you want a lie in it’s lovely not to miss breakfast. We would also recommend the lunch burgers, first class!||I could go on and on but suffice to say we will be back in the summer when we will be using the fab Balinese beds and pool. See you all again soon guys.||Sharon & Wayne

Don’t waste your money here. • The rooms were very dirty (mold and cobwebs); • Woken up several times in the middle of the night due to failing lights; • We were without water for days (unable to shower or flush the toilet). The photos say it all.
