Ghostbusters Firehouse – Hook & Ladder 8 When we booked our VIP coach tour in New York, there were dozens of landmarks and options to choose from, but for us one stop stood out above all the rest: Hook & Ladder 8 in Tribeca, better known to the world as the Ghostbusters firehouse. It was the deciding factor in picking the tour, and even after a hectic week exploring the city’s biggest icons, this was the one that left us grinning like kids. The firehouse has been here since 1903, a proud red-brick Beaux-Arts building that was literally cut in half in 1913 when Varick Street was widened. Its slightly “squeezed” look is part of its charm. What most people know it for, though, is its starring role in the 1984 classic Ghostbusters. Dan Aykroyd, who co-wrote the film, chose this station because he knew the area, and its tall bay door and stoic façade became the cinematic headquarters of paranormal investigation. Exterior shots were filmed here, while interiors were re-created on a soundstage in Los Angeles. Even so, this corner of North Moore Street is forever tied to Ecto-1, proton packs, and “Who you gonna call?” What makes it even more special is that this is not a museum—it’s an active FDNY firehouse. The firefighters here were among the first responders on 9/11, and the company nearly closed in 2011 before a public outcry and political support saved it. That mix of Hollywood magic and very real New York bravery makes visiting all the more meaningful. If you’re lucky enough to pass when the doors are open, you’ll see more than the gleaming trucks inside—you can also buy Hook & Ladder 8 t-shirts directly from the firefighters. The proceeds go to charity, making it one of those rare souvenirs that actually means something. It’s a small way to support the men and women who serve here while also taking home a piece of Ghostbusters history. Another recent highlight: fans gifted the station a replica of the original Ghostbusters sign, which is being properly mounted on a post outside to match the film. Between that and the existing fan-donated logo above the doors, the building feels alive with pop culture energy. On Ghostbusters Day each June, fans gather here in full costume, turning the quiet street into a celebration of both the movie and the firehouse itself. Standing on the sidewalk, it’s easy to imagine the Ecto-1 screaming out of the bay doors with sirens blaring, heading off to another supernatural emergency. For film lovers, it’s a pilgrimage site. For visitors in general, it’s proof of how a working New York landmark became part of global culture without losing its authenticity. For us, the stop was absolutely worth it. We picked the tour because of this firehouse, and it delivered everything we hoped—cinematic nostalgia, real New York history, and a sense of connection to something that blends fiction and reality in the most fun way possible. If you’re in Manhattan, especially anywhere near Tribeca, it’s worth the detour. Even if you’re not a Ghostbusters super-fan, you’ll leave with a smile, a photo, and maybe a t-shirt that helps a good cause.

Google
The Ghostbusters Firehouse! The outside of the building was filmed for the movie, not the inside FYI. They're all nice guys, very respectful. They prohibited a tour of the firehouse, probably because it's so famous. People are always stopping by here to take pictures. I got their shirt, coin, and patch! A nice send off before I moved out of NYC. God Bless our FDNY!

Paul

Google
For kids and adults who remember ghost busters the first time around, really worth a visit and if walking downtown to the world trade centres Mémorials, then you will pass it. Its really just a photo opportunity, but you'll end up watching an old rerun I'm sure!

Amy R.

Google
I think some people leaving reviews either forget or dont care that this is a working firehouse. If they can't take time to talk to you or open the door so you can buy a shirt then they are busy working. I just wanted a picture of the building. I didn't expect to be able to buy a shirt to support the firehouse so that was an added bonus. Very cool to see.

Google
We stopped by because my boys are huge Ghostbusters fans! Only the exterior of this firehouse was used in the films, and since it’s an active fire station, we didn’t expect much. The doors were shut when we arrived and there were only two other people taking photos outside. As we got closer—with my kiddo singing the Ghostbusters theme—a firefighter came out, heard him, and kindly invited us for a quick peek inside! He even opened the garage halfway, took our family photos, and let the kids take pictures with him and the fun signage inside. A few minutes later, more tourists started arriving, and we felt a little bad for staying too long. Still, thanks to that firefighter’s kindness, my kids had a special moment they’ll always remember.

Google
It doesn't matter if you are a fan of Ghostbusters or not, although for fan it is way more fun, this is a great firehouse to visit. There is a lot of Ghostbusters things to see. They even sell an awesome specialized Ghostbusters Ladder 8 shirt for 20 dollars. I wear it the last 1,5 year on the regular. When i'm going back later this year, people already asked me to bring shirts back home. It is a live working fire station so there is always the possibily they are not open. But you should really go and check anyway.

An awesome unplanned walk past the iconic Ghostbusters building, a dream come true . Happy just to stand outside and take in this amazing looking working fire station.

Google
We visited just this week without realizing it was the 40th anniversary of the release of the first movie. So many fans, some all dressed up. The firefighters were so great and allowed people in to the firehouse to take pictures. They were even selling commemorative FDNY t-shirts with the GB logo on the front. It was a great experience!

Yelp
FDNY Ladder 8--aka Ghostbusters HQ--is so cool! I'll never forget watching the Ghostbusters take on the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and thinking they were the absolute coolest. Standing in front of Ladder 8 brought all that childhood wonder rushing back--I was instantly 8 years old again. Stopping by to snap a few photos and relive those memories? Absolutely priceless.

Yelp
Ghostbusters Headquarters 14 N. Moore St. New York, NY 10013 Although it's officially named "FDNY Ladder 8," it will always be known as the prestigious Ghostbusters Headquarters from the hit movies! When you are next in Tribeca, this is a must see! You will be mesmerized by the exterior as it will definitely ring back memories of Peter, Ray, Egon, Winston and the rest of the cast! Yelp
For a person who loves Ghostbusters this was a great experience. It is free to visit. You can not go inside but the firefighters inside were friendly. Answered questions. I love seeing the actual places where some of my favorites moves were shot

Yelp
Short and sweet review for this amazing little piece of movie history! The iconic fire department from the Ghostbusters series is very easy to locate and seems like it is so fake because of how well kept and beautiful it is! It was decorated for the holidays and I was glad to finally be able to see one of my favorite pieces of movie locations in the flash! They have a few little Ghostbuster memorabilia and art pieces hanging around and you can stand and touch it while you take photos! It serves as a working fire department so I got to see a few firefighters looking out of the second floor window! Right on the corner it is very easy to see from the street. It does tend to get busy and there was quite a few other people taking photos while I was there. Nothing that you can spend more than 5 minutes looking at but it definitely is one of the coolest things if you are an avid movie lover of the series!

Yelp
FDNY Hook and Ladder Company 8's exterior is famously used in the film franchise Ghostbusters. One word: WOW! It is a beautiful building of Beaux-Arts style firehouses constructed in 1903 as double-wide. However, in 1912 Varick Street was expanded to meet Seventh Avenue and NYC subway 1 train Franklin Street station was constructed underneath FDNY Hook & Ladder No. 8 was cut in half and became a one bay firehouse. It sits on Broadway and Hudson Street in TriBeCa. After the three year (2016 to 2018) renovation, it looks speculator. There are two large murals embedded on the ground in front of the firehouse. Left mural: a ghost is holding Halligan bar, a forcible entry tool used by firefighters with a fire hydrant and ladder. Right mural: a ghost is also holding a Halligan bar wearing a helmet with the number 8 with a fire hydrant and ladder and letters "FD" on the top and "NY" on the bottom of a shield. Inside I was able to catch a glimpse of a collectible wall full of Ghostbuster patches from all over the world, a mini model of Hook & Ladder No. 8, old phones bronzed, a plaque from Ghostbuster fans who donated money enabling a new sign which hangs year-round on the exterior. Ladder No. 8. Ladder 8 company is an actively functioning firehouse that serves the City of New York, particularly TriBeCa where visitors and fans can only enjoy the exterior view which is good enough for me as I was mesmerized and engrossed with nostalgia. I am so profoundly happy to finally visit and catch a glimpse of cinematic and New York cultural history where this legacy still resonate. I remember my childhood watching the 1984, 1989 films and the animated cartoon television series "The Real Ghostbusters," but seeing the firehouse in-person now looks exactly as is in films and the animated cartoon series. "Ghostbusters Day" is celebrated on the closest Saturday to June 8th in recognition of when the movie was released. https://youtu.be/r6HQY0406Eo?si=T41xl-FHZfGVl3mt Nota bene: Call Hook and Ladder Company 8 only if you have a genuine fire emergency.

Yelp
It's a super cute place to take a photo and very easy to find!! This isn't one of those places to explore or take photos with props which would be super cool However, as a cute stop and go. There are a couple of cute spots to eat and drink coffee around this location.

Yelp
Growing up I adored the movie Ghostbusters and loved the characters, especially Bill Murray. To be honest I did not know that its HQ is right there, I was going to Tamarind Tribeca and saw this sign in Google Maps and I was like, I can have lunch later, first explore this. I'm glad I did. Fact: Hook & Ladder Company 8 is a fully functional firehouse, so respect their space and time. I can see their frustration when everyone asks the same questions. I just had a look, smiled, greeted them, and moved along. The 1903 Beaux-Arts building, home to the real-life Hook & Ladder Company 8, was used for the exterior scenes of the fictional firehouse where Peter, Ray, Egon, and Winston set up their ghostbusting operations. Although the Ghostbusters logo sign might not hang from the front of the building like in the movie, it's still plainly recognizable today as the Ghostbusters firehouse. [the interior was shot in a Los Angeles studio] it also appeared in the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot. This building has been in service for over 100 years and is older than the Fire Department of New York. Due to the high volume of tourists and fans who come to the firehouse, a few themed updates have been made. The Ghostbusers logo has been painted on the front sidewalk, and the Ghostbusers and Ghostbuster 2 logo signage hangs inside. There's a subtle tribute to the movie, painted on the ground near the station house - a rendition of the Ghostbusters logo.

Yelp
Please, no more reviews with the tagline "Who ya gonna call?" I'm going to call you an ambulance. Go for the photo op. It's much easier and safer than starting a fire. Most people just smile for the picture or do a peace sign. If your mom goes, have her put 14 hot dogs in her mouth like Slimer. It will remind her of college. Notes: 1. This set seen in three Ghostbusters movies and video game is also a LEGO set. 2. The building is older than the Fire Department. 3. Sg 3. The building used to be twice the size, but it was reduced when Varick Street was widened in 1903. Thanks, Roosevelt.

Yelp
While I've known that it was here for a number of years, I never actually paid a visit to it until they had done some "decorating" for the brand-new film "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire". With this being the case it was very simply to hard to resist. Now I should point out that by the time I was able to pen this Yelp that the promotional installation is gone but the firehouse remains in place as it is an active station for the NYFD. Simply put, if you are a fan of the Ghostbusters franchise overall you should pay the place a visit, especially if you are from out of town and looking for the free highlights that our metropolis offers you. On my visit there were numerous "frozen" installations around the building and the Ghostbusters symbol that hangs above was also iced. I meant to ask if the symbol remains over the station in general but I blanked on this but I do think that this remains here no matter what. Inside is a fully functional engine but no touching because its not a prop and no one wants to bang their hand or anything else on it. Our NYFD has some sturdy vehicles in their command. A firefighter was stationed near the stairs so no one went upstairs. That's the living quarters, offices and other amenities that they need during their time on duty. Visitors can enjoy a number of photo ops on the right side wall which is adored with all sorts of Ghostbusters ephemera and signage. They do have a modest merchandise stand open to the masses where one can get t-shirts, hats, buttons and pins. All the proceeds help raise additional monies for the firehouse which I am sure is put to good use. All in all I enjoyed my visit and thank the NYFD for all that they do for our New York City.

Yelp
Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!! Beaux-Arts style firehouse from 1903, made famous as the HQ of the "Ghostbusters" in the 1984 movie. It's located in TriBeCa between Moore st and W. Broadway. Today , I was lucky to see Slimer pop-out the wall and greet visitors.

Yelp
Have to go visit! Perfect photo opportunity and being able to buy a patch and coin is great. Patches were $5 and coin was $15, they won't do trades.
google avatar

Mel M.

Yelp
MANHATTAN/Tribeca: The original Ghostbusters movie from 1984 had some scenes filmed in NYC and you can visit the Ghostbusters Headquarters that served as the exterior shots for the movie! The building is currently being used as an active firehouse, but you can take photos outside the building. There is even a Ghostbusters sign hanging out front! 14 N Moore St, New York, NY 10013

Yelp
No real Ghostbusters fan can visit New York City without stopping by Hook & Ladder 8. It is just a building, but I also had an emotional moment getting to touch the building from a film that ranks so highly with me. We were lucky enough to make a number of Ghostbusters visits on our trip. You can see more of our visit on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3Nop7qaKqs

Yelp
Don't cross the streams and come before they close are the only two rules when vising Hook and Ladder 8, aka. Ghostbusters HQ. NOTE: This is a real firehouse and not a set prop. When we arrived minutes before 4:30 pm last Thursday, we encountered the firefighters and a small group of visitors. They were all super nice and genuine. They allowed us to take pictures of the firehouse, the memorabilia, and the fire truck, and take selfies with them. We stayed in Midtown, so here's how we got there. We took 34 Street - Penn Station Line 1 to South Ferry and exited Franklin Street Station. Easy peasy. It was an absolute blast visiting. I picked up a magnet and a coin. There are other merch items that are available but being there with my daughter was the highlight. A must-visit.

Yelp
This was so much fun to see! We stopped by while wandering around the city and it was a blast to see this building. We love that it's still a fully functioning fire house and that they've leaned into the Ghostbusters history. We've heard that the firefighters are super friendly, but no one was here when we stopped by. It's a great place to come and take a photo and we'd definitely recommend it!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
What more can I say? If you love Ghostbusters, come here and get a pic of the firehouse. Wait so people aren't in your shot, and snag a clean looking one! Use filters, make it black and white, noir... whatever. I ain't afraid of no ghosts.
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
"We came! We saw! We kicked its ass!" - Bill Murray as Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters (1984) Lots of movies take place in New York City and one of the more famous modern films was set here in this firehouse in Manhattan. So if you're at all a fan of the movie, you need to stop by to see the famous spot. I have no idea if there's actually a pole to slide down or if there's storage in the basement for ghosts, but the outside sure looks just like what you'd expect. And yes, this is an active firehouse so be on the lookout for the firetruck to respond. [Review 18367 overall - 365 in New York - 1889 of 2022.]
google avatar

Nancy V.

Yelp
If you grew up watching Ghostbusters I highly recommend you make a little detour and check out this firehouse. It really won't take up too much time from your agenda during your visit in NY and the subway is right in front. They also have Firehouse Ghostbusters apparel you can purchase. My 1st visit was short and sweet and I was lucky enough to be in NY during Ghostbusters day and man it was so cool. Was a total party outside with the firetruck, DJ and 2 ECTOs parked out in front. Was a lot going on definitely one for the books!
google avatar

Bella N.

Yelp
to the NYFD Cheif that say, " She dont gotta open her door, you called us, what do you want" I thank you for making the 2 guys leave, and i thank you for protecting me!!! Let God extra bless & protect NYFD, i pray Arch Angel Michael gaurd and keep you guys&gals SAFE!,
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
If there's ever any movie location you need to visit in New York it's definitely this one as it's the most vibrant of all of them and it's the most iconic from nearly 40 years ago come 2024... Can you believe it? You can just hear the beginnings of the Erie sound of the song as the title and local come into appearance And then there you have it the fire house. I'm glad that this place is still a fire house and I believe it wasn't one when they filmed it but I could be wrong and then it turned into one again? I can't remember the story. Unfortunately we couldn't go inside because the doors were closed but I heard they do sell some Ghostbusters merch inside from time to time And they are very kind.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Disclaimer: You can only enter when they are open. They don't just let anyone inside, it is an actual active firehouse and as far as I know you can't go in and explore. BUT, it's the firehouse from ghostbusters and it's awesome. Just seeing it is so cool. I was happy I took the time to go see it for a few minutes to bro g the nostalgia that comes with seeing it. Near Rockerfeller plaza is another place where you can buy their fire patch and their fire shirt. So you can get a ladder 8 patch/shirt if they aren't open

Sue H.

Yelp
I'm only giving this a 3 star but in my heart it's a 5 star. BUT for actual tourist stops I tell you why: Nothing to do but snap maybe three photos and you're done. However, we came from a hotel at 32nd and Broadway all the way up here and on subway only 2.90 each and when we popped out of the subway entrance, it literally was RIGHT there. It's clean, in good condition and iconic and glad I got to see it, but I guess you can't go inside or anything, so hence the three stars as 5 min and done. From there we took subway to Friends building and then to Tom's Restaurant both 5 min things as well except you can EAT at Toms...
google avatar

Phil H.

Yelp
Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters! For fans of the movie franchise ( the originals are still the best ) a visit to this small firehouse location is a must, as it was the setting of the Ghostbusters' headquarters. It's actually still a very much functioning firehouse, and the afternoon I was here they opened up the garage door to reveal their firetruck with the Ghostbusters ghost logo on the grill adorned with a Christmas wreath. The building itself had holiday decorations on it, along with the logo in the windows. On the sidewalk you'll find some fun colorful FD company badges painted on. You can tell they embrace the movie's history and have fun with it. As the night fell I walked by again to see the decorations lit up. I ain't afraid of no ghost!
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Still a functioning FireHouse. You cannot go inside most days. Knock on the door to the right and tell them you'd like to buy a shirt or hoodie. It's cash only. They are friendlier if you are a child or woman.
google avatar

Sean B.

Yelp
GHOSTBUSTERS Favorite movie spot, very convenient to find in a great location for the pictures. would love to go inside but don't know if that is a thing...
google avatar

Mari T.

Yelp
Cool to look at but don't expect much since it is still operating firehouse. All you see is the outside decorations of the Ghostbusters logo and the floors on the sidewalk. That's about it.
google avatar

Chunjai K.

Yelp
Super happy I finally got to Ghostbusters Headquarters! Yes, the actual fire department still active so you can only enjoy outside, sign, location and the building. That's all enough for me. I love the movie and I also have Lego modular of this building. Such a nice day to visit and see the building by my own eyes. Fireman who works at this place, they look enjoy that lots of people taking their picture! like a movie star!
google avatar

Renee N.

Yelp
Being a fan of the original Ghostbusters film (1984) and a Lady of the 80's, while in NYC my daughter and I wondered over to see the infamous Hook and Ladder 8 station. The station is still in use today so we could not go inside, but there were plenty of photo opportunities from the outside. There were not many people around which gave us sometime to have fun and remember this film. I could almost picture Bill Murray coming out of the station in full uniform ready to take on more ghosts. The station is easy to find and if you have a special place in your heart for this film, be sure to go and check it out. Remember - If there is something strange in your neighborhood, Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! If there is something weird and it don't look good, Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!

As an elderly women with time to spare l've recently been donating my time to claen the firefighters windshields and while doing so 2 burly fellows berated me for trying to help, thank heavens for the Fred Flintstone looking gentleman who calmed them down.

Yelp
I visited with my 4 year old son who is a huge ghostbusters fan. He loved it and thought maybe if he knocked they would be ok with him taking a peak. The man who opened the door seemed agitated. My son knocked two times. He opened the door rudely and we asked if he could come in. Instead of saying nicely, I'm sorry buddy but we can't let anybody in because of COVID or something like that... he was like... "NO YOU CANT COME IN" and proceeded to slam the door. My son was devastated that the man was so mean and slammed the door in his face. He started to cry uncontrollably. Mind you, he was standing by the door by himself. I was standing way back behind him. How could he be so heartless and rude to a small child?? I'm sorry, but i am so disappointed. We live in Maryland and our fire department is always so friendly especially to small children.
google avatar

Dave L.

Yelp
Have an alcoholic apparition haunting your liquor cabinet? Call Hook & Ladder[1]! Staff are efficient and get the job done. They're friendly and go above and beyond when it comes to service, which is appreciated since they're the only operation in town with proton packs. HAPPY (belated) HALLOWEEN! [1] Don't actually call them for ghosts. Call them if you have a genuine fire emergency.

Yelp
Super cool destination if you are a Ghostbusters fan. It's still an active Fire Station but if you want to take a picture from outside you can. Wasn't really anyone else there the day we visited. Easy to find just a short walk from the subway line. Remember half the experience is getting to the destination! Have fun!

Yelp
Hook ladder 8 is one of best firehouses in city and it an iconic house because of ghosts busters and famine ecto 1

Yelp
Meh. What a let down. I came from across town to see this place, being a huge fan of Ghostbusters. It's closed...well, it's under construction. And the old mural on floor was destroyed, a new one is now in its place, but a piece of the old one remains. It's empty. Lonely. A piece of forgotten movie history. I guess I don't know what I was expecting when I came here. Maybe an overwhelming number sense of nostalgia? Maybe I would be in the mood for marshmallows after? Nope. I left with disappointment and regret that I trekked all the way over here.

Yelp
I myself grew up loving the Ghostbusters movies but my son is obsessed! Even has the Playmobil firehouse and Ecto 1 set up in his room!! We knew it was a working firehouse but still loved the chance to take some pictures! To our surprise the guys had the doors open to the public and met everyone and even had station tshirts for sale! They even got a call while we were there and had to rush out lights blaring! Such a cool experience!!

Cathy G.

Yelp
I had the grilled salad with a chicken breast which was delicious. Our table tried a variety of plates and everyone was commenting on how tasty it all was.

Yelp
One of our days in NYC we decided to check out some of the celebrity locations where movies/tv shows were filmed. This is one of my favorite movies as a kid and I had to come by here to see it. I believe it is still an active fire station but they are doing some construction or renovations currently, so it was a little tough to take good photos or go up real close to it. We also couldn't get in to see the inside, but it's cool....glad I got to see good ol' Hook & Ladder 8 from Ghostbusters! Construction dudes were nice enough to let us take all the photos we wanted as they know its a touristy stopping point. Winston Zeddemore: "Are we actually gonna go before a federal judge and tell him that some moldy Babylonian god is going to drop in on Central Park West, and start tearing up the city?" Egon Spengler: "Sumerian -- not Babylonian." Peter Venkman: "Yeah. Big difference."
google avatar

Joanna G.

Yelp
Photo ops here! Get your photos here! Be aware that this is a working fire station and you won't be allowed inside. But, Ghostbusters fans can take selfies around the outside.
google avatar

Phil G.

Yelp
If you've ever seen Ghostbusters, it's hard to not smile when you see the old fire station. 5 stars for the firemen who serve the public, honor the film and enable the gawking public with decor. Several times I've seen them wave to camera snapping passersby. The film logo is maintained. It's a classically beautiful little corner piece of architecture. Memorial floral arrangements in honor of Dr. Spengler are a regular here. Extremely cheap thrills for a local or tourist. There also happen to be some very good food and beverage options nearby.
google avatar

Dominik D.

Yelp
You like ghostbusters (I mean the original, not that awful remake from a few years back)? Then swing by this unassuming and functional firefighters station!
google avatar

Yelp
If you love ghostbusters, this will definitely bring a smile to your face. I didn't go inside or anything but just seeing the building it self was rewarding enough.

Yelp
Hook & Ladder 8 is one of the stops that a Ghostbusters fan has to make while in NYC. I came here just wanting to see the structure in person and snap a few photos to say that I was there, but I got all sentimental and had flashbacks of when I was a kid and watched the movies over and over on VHS, then had to wait 5 minutes to rewind the tape to watch it again. By the way, this is still an operating fire station, so you'll most likely see firemen rolling out of here in their fire trucks than Venkman, Ray, Spengler, and Winston zooming out in their custom hearse. Just an FYI, so it's probably best to keep your distance and snap your photos from across the street. Even if it's out of your way, I recommend visiting Hook & Ladder if you want to feel all nostalgic about Stay Puft, Zuul, Vigo the Carpathian, and Twinkies.

Yelp
I remember passing this place as a little boy and seeing the sign with the screaming ghost coming out of the No sign; I asked my father what it was and he spoke to me in a soft voice, as if confiding a secret: "Oh, this is the Ghostbusters HQ". I remember being afraid and asking him: "G-ghosts?". "Yes"-was the answer. "Ghosts" For almost a decade, the Ghostbusters were a Manhattan institution, and perhaps the most bizarre business that ever grazed the island. Spearheaded by famous parapsychologist Dr. Egon Spengler, he shocked the scientific community with his theories on ectoplasm and psychokinesis, and with his now famous invention, the "Ghost containment facility", which led to many scuffles with the EPA and the DOH during the tenure of the short lived business. Nevertheless, the fringe science proved to be a fantastic success in New York City and the tri area, and many of the Ghostbusters jobs received copious amounts of publicity and press coverage during the 1980's. Reported "cleansing" of so-called haunted places, resurrected an interest in the fields of parapsychology and alternative science, and soon enough, other inventions to contain or harness ectoplasm started popping up in Sweden, Germany and elsewhere. The Ghostbusters vogue, also invited a resurgence in spiritism, with a plethora of charlatans setting camp all over Manhattan; needless to say, the 80's became a beehive of superstition in its waning days. The only experience where I was personally involved with the Ghostbusters, was when our great aunt died in 1991, and they were called in to clean her apartment in the UWS from her "presence". According to my cousins, they could distinctively hear her footsteps going to the kitchen and opening the fridge at 2:00am in the morning (as it was her custom while alive), or they would arrive home to find the television turned on and tuning her favorite program (Geraldo) Everything came to a head when they had friends visiting from out of town which were to stay in the house for a few days, until one of them saw the reflection of my naked great aunt in the bathroom mirror. No more. The Ghostbusters came in and took care of the problem, but in doing so, they wrecked much of my cousin's furniture, and spooked the neighbors as they could clearly hear my great aunt's horrid howls as she was being "contained". My family couldn't file a lawsuit since they had signed a waiver with the services, but at least our great aunt never bothered us again. The Ghostbusters finally went out of business when Giuliani took office and decided to make a Manhattan house cleaning, which included getting rid of shady or questionable parsons and businesses. The Ghostbusters were harassed by the EPA, and with the help of a respectable cadre of Doctors from Columbia University, forced the business to close its doors on Nov. 1994 due to the alleged threat of environmental hazard. Dr. Egon Spengler went on to sell his patented "ghost containment facility" in other parts of the world, opening Ghostbusters franchises in Japan, Taiwan and Europe. In America, the application of such fringe science has since been prohibited and sternly regulated by code, but New York will always remember that time when it used to sing: "If there's something strange, in the neighborhood, who you gonna call...?" *** Located in the famed location featured as the headquarters in the Ghostbusters movie (You can even see the symbol from Ghostbusters II on display inside the station), this FDNY station has been around since well over a century, moving from two different locations until finally settling in this one. So it is always reassuring when the boys in black and yellow whizz through the streets (ok, we all know we detest the damn siren when it invades our ears on a daily basis but...), always ready to dash into action and contain the firestorm. But as much as our ears ring whenever it is they pass by, the surely deserve the accolade: Heroes. Check their collection of molten/destroyed telephones that they have recovered from various jobs, which is on display inside So if, god forbid, your house is on fire, you left the stove burning, or you forgot not to smoke your joint underneath your sheets, who you gonna call? Hook & Ladder 8 DISCLAIMER: Please note that this review is being done in the spirit of Halloween; meaning that the uppercase review is a fake review, while the lowercase review is a real review, in other words: Trick & Treat. Happy Halloween!

Yelp
Eh this place is pretty cool but there is no tours or anything like that. It's an actual firehouse with some ghost busters signs and such. Firefighters were cool though. They sell shirts and hats in the back but you gotta ask as there is no sign

Yelp
Five stars only because the pole still works... but I think this building should be condemned. There's serious metal fatigue in all the load-bearing members, the wiring is substandard, it's completely inadequate for our power needs, and the neighborhood is like a demilitarized zone.

Yelp
When I was visiting my friend in NYC, he said he was sad that he had never visited this place. We made the pilgrimage and we are glad that we did. We happened to go on Halloween, so the firehouse was open and there were a couple of firefighters handing out candy to the kids. We asked them a couple of questions and they were really nice. You could tell they were proud of it's history. The best part was all the kids dressed for Halloween were coming by, and you could see there faces light up and they would get excited when they realized this is where Ghostbusters takes place! That was really fun!

Yelp
Five stars for our firefighters. It's awesome to see this firehouse as a Ghostbusters fan, but also great to support the people working here to save lives in NYC. Stop by, take some pictures of the Ghostbusters paintings out front, and knock on the door. They sell some cool FDNY/Ghostbusters co-branded merch that benefits the fire station... And as Ray said, "you gotta try this pole!"

Yelp
Who ya gonna call ? NYC's most famous movie landmark ! Easy access by car subway or bus. A must see for any GB fan or NYC buff. Hopefully when you go the door will be up so the GB 2 sign is in plain sight.
