Featherbed Nature Reserve

The Featherbed Eco walk with lunch did not disappoint. Even the overcast weather couldn’t put a damper on the afternoon. It starts with a 20min boat ride across the beautiful Knysna Estuary with interesting and entertaining commentary provided by our guide - Colin. The buffet lunch at the Featherbed restaurant was delicious with a full selection of meats, veggies, salads and deserts - drinks are not included (no cash accepted). We were shuttled up to the top of the reserve with a 60-70 min walk down to the cave (time depends on how many times you stop to take photos, and there are so many beautiful spots) Colin our Guide was not only extremely knowledgeable on the history and nature on the reserve but was also very patient with our all girls group 😁. The views throughout the walk are breathtaking and the photos don’t do it justice. All the Featherbed staff are amazing and I highly recommend this experience if you are in Knysna. We booked online and prices vary depending on the day and season. We paid R550 per person (midweek) and ticket prices includes everything except drinks and staff tips.

The most beautiful nature reserve I have ever been to!From the mainland you are taken to the reserve by the tour guide on a ferry. The lunch was amazing and the mountain top views are breathtakingly beautiful

Beautiful 2.2 km hiking trial (easy). They take you by boat to the starting point where you meet up with a truck and the truck takes up the hill, so the hike is all downhill with spectacular views. They provide walking sticks, but the route is very easy so the sticks are not really necessary. You end with a one-hour buffet lunch. My husband enjoyed the warm calamari dish, whereas I preferred the cold calamari salad.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Featherbed Nature Reserve is an absolute gem in Knysna! The experience started with a friendly and well-informed guide who made the trip so engaging. The boat ride across the lagoon was scenic and relaxing, followed by an exciting drive to the top of the West Head with breathtaking views. The walk back down was relatively easy and offered even more stunning vistas, with a chance to explore the Honeymoon Cave for those who love a bit of adventure. The day was topped off with an ice-cold draft beer and a fantastic buffet—plenty of options to satisfy every appetite. If time allows, don’t miss the beach bar for another beer and some extra relaxation before cruising back across the lagoon. Highly recommended for nature lovers and those seeking a mix of adventure and leisure!

We went via the Featherbed eco experience. Transport by ferry to the Featherbed nature reserve, drive up with a truck, hike down on foot 2.2km through the forest, buffet lunch at the end. The entire experience was extraordinary with spectacular views .

This was absolutely amazing . The whole experience from the ferry to the buffet lunch was great. You take a ferry from the Harbour to the west head . Upon arrival you take a 4x4 trip the top of the west head stopping at a few spots for fantastic photo opportunities. Then you walk down ( 2.2km ) alongside the mountain back to the main house where you are served with a 5 star buffet lunch . The walk down is not hard at all . The entire adventure has a scenic view from start to finish and the buffet lunch was easily the best I have ever had with a big variety of food choices. I would recommend this to everyone when they visit Knysna . Definitely worth every penny ... A must do ...

This was an amazing outing and experience. The boat trip across the lake to the nature reserve, the drive up the mountain and the awesome 2.2km scenic walk back to the boat. Quick drink and food and back to the mainland. 3 to 4 hours trip. Totally worth it and we will do it again. Thanks for this awesome experience.

great day out! we started with a small breakfast at the cafe (don't fill up yet because the buffet is awesome!) 30 min boat trip to the reserve, short drive to the top then a leisurely walk back down, stopping at the lookout sites. Dylan was our tour guide, who is very knowledgeable and fun. It is well organised too. They have an alternate coastal walk for those who may struggle with the hike, and they even had ponchos ready in case it rained
