Oh... oh my. I'm not sure I've ever been so smitten with a coffee shop in years. Between the menu, which combines third wave contemporary with fantastically unique starbucks style dessert coffees, to the very sweet woman who works there to the groundbreaking exposure to a latte in an ice cream cone, Fenster Cafe is everything. It works here in Vienna, it works at their location in Bratislava, and it could very, very easily work anywhere in the world especially in this instagram-age.
Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere?
Fenster cafe is just that, a tiny little window completely run by a single person. There's no seating and you might expect a line, so plan accordingly if the weather isn't ideal. From there, the service is efficient and friendly and completely embraces the aesthetics of their products. Star.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
€5,50 got me a latte (I suppose a cappuccino really) in an ice cream cone lined with chocolate, and that's a solid price point just about anywhere. Star.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
The internet tells me that the whole coffee in an ice cream cone had an Australia-driven moment in 2016 but more or less fizzled shortly after especially in the United States. While that may have been the case, I'm more than certain that the concept would catch fire today, and Fenster Cafe could well inspire that charge.
This was perfect. It was the right amount of coffee in a cone lined with Chocolate that essentially made it a mild mocha, and the structure wasn't at all messy. There're not much more to say really - this was marvelous and I only wished that I could have sampled some of their other specialty beverages like the oreo latte or the salted caramel macchiatto. Two Stars.
Star 5: Would you be excited to go back?
Absolutely. Star.
