It looked like a really cool place. We arrived just before 10AM, so we didn't have to wait too long to be seated...only about 10 or 15 minutes.
We ordered beignets to start. After a considerable amount of time, maybe 20 minutes or more, they arrived. Beignets originate from New Orleans. Many people associate blackened food with Cajun food, but beignets are supposed to be golden brown not near black. We each but into one. The initial taste was like biting into burnt toast. They were definitely scorched on the outside. The inside was super tough and chewy. It was mechanically difficult to take a bite.
When the waitress came by, I told her they were burnt. She responded matter-of-factly, "I can bring you some more, but they're gonna look the same or I can just take them off your ticket."
We ordered our entrees which took a ridiculously long amount of time to receive, about 30 minutes. For our entree, my wife ordered the kimchi Ruben, which was absolutely delicious. I ordered the falafel plate, another fried item...
They were burnt.
The waitress, obviously irritated, made a terse comment. She took it off the check though.
Overall, it wasn't a pleasant experience.
