Google
5/5 stars for pies, pastries and coffee. Impeccable service and more importantly short queue. We came 12pm, where the bfast crowd is gone and majority of the crowd were queuing for the burgers. Venison and Portobello mushroom pie was amazing. So far one of the best I've tried in NZ. Filling was top notch, flavourful and pastry was smelt buttery! Overall amazing food! Kudos to the bakers and service team.

Google
Pies from this bakery are just so good and delicious. I have tried the Ferg pie, and the lamb one. I cannot describe how good it is, but once you try meat pies from this shop, it might be hard for you to find more good pies from other shops. However, the meat pies are a bit expensive, but the size of the pies is acceptable for its price. Overall, it tastes great, and worth the price and experience!

Google
It was everything I hoped for! Delicious smelling bakery and I didn't have to wait as long as Fergburger next door. I got the famous cream donut and pie - np regrets! Would have loved there to be more seating inside but with the queues I can understand while they appreciate the quick turnover.

Google
We tried their donuts and really liked them. The vanilla cream in the middle was smooth and just the right amount — not too sweet, and it went really well with the donut. It’s a nice treat if you’re in the area and looking for something simple and tasty.

Google
We were here for 4 days and every day we donated our life savings to the Ferg foundation lol we came here for the famous Boston cream buns and they did not disappoint. We also loved the pies and cheese and bacon baguette. We tried the sausage roll and a couple of the different pies and they were all delicious.

Marilla Harris-Vincent

Google
The Boston cream doughnut was so yummy. I loved that it wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet. The cream on the inside is so good and fresh. The doughnut was fluffy and delicious. I also got the vegetarian lentil and mushroom pie (two days in a row) and it was the best veggie pie I’ve ever had. It was so flavorful and cheesy and the crust is buttery and flakey. I highly recommend!!

Google
I’ve been there a few times for a late night snack… I love that they are open till 2 am! Every time I went there and every thing I’ve tried was so delicious. The stuff is also very friendly. Shoutout to Theo who gave us some recommendations and created beautiful art on my coffee. Overall, I had a great experience love this bakery. THE HOT CHOCOLATE AND BELGIAN CREAM DONUT ARE TO DIE FOR!!! (Thanks Theo my friend)

Google
Exceptional Service and the Sweetest Experience! All I wanted was a classic apple pie with vanilla ice cream — simple, but comforting. When they realised they were out of vanilla, the team didn’t skip a beat. One of the staff ran down to their other shop to get more, just so I could have exactly what I was craving. While that was happening, Alina and Theo were absolutely incredible — warm, genuine, and so attentive. They made me feel truly valued as a customer, and their positive energy made the whole experience such a joy. The dessert was delicious, but it was the care and effort from Alina, Theo, and the entire team that really stood out. I sincerely hope management recognises what an asset they are — they turned a small order into a memorable moment. I’ll definitely be back and will be recommending this place to everyone I know!

Yelp
Fergburger is a Queenstown classic, but Fergbaker, right next door, deserves equal attention. I tried the chicken curry pie, and it was fantastic. The crust was perfectly flaky, giving way to a creamy, flavorful filling with tender chicken and just the right spice kick. The balance of curry spices made it rich without being overwhelming, leaving a warm, satisfying taste. Fergbaker's pies are a great alternative to the famous burgers, especially if you're craving something savory on the go. If you're visiting Queenstown, both Fergburger and Fergbaker are worth the stop--don't miss this hidden gem!

Mikhala F.

Yelp
The reason Fergburger is so delicious is because they bake their own buns in-house! And while I think Fergburger is overhyped, Fergbaker is UNDERhyped and overly delicious. If you do NOTHING else in Queenstown, get yourself a creme filled donut here. Grab one for yourself - and maybe another pastry or hand pie, while you wait in line for that burger. Then eat the burger, realize the donut was wayyyy better, and go back next door for another donut :) The shop itself smells amazing, service is great, and it's clearly a Queenstown staple for locals and tourists alike. Truly - one of the top food items we ate during our whole trip!

Courtney S.

Yelp
Pretty long lines but move quickly. I didn't get to try them, but the bakery items look divine! I ordered a gelato mocha that was delicious. I'd recommend because it wasn't overly rich and you still were able to taste the coffee. No indoor seating, so keep that in mind if you're looking for a place to dine in.

Amanda T.

Yelp
I've tried a few meat pies in New Zealand and Fergbaker by far wins out the rest. The Fergpie, which is their signature steak option is a solid choice. I liked it so much, I went back to get another one! My second favorite of the pies was the pork belly--it was so tender and flavorful. So those would be my top two if I had to choose. I also tried their creme filled donut, which was phenominal as well! The cream was fresh with a warm vanilla taste and the donut itself was fluffy, making for the perfect bite. I wish I bought more to take home, but probably wouldn't have survived the flight across the pacific.

Derek L.

Yelp
The pies here are SO GOOD! We tried the Bacon and Egg pie as well as the steak pie and they were both spectacular! The egg and bacon was a great one for breakfast and I'd definitely lean towards the steak one for lunch but nonetheless super delicious. They keep the bakery line moving quite quickly compared to the burger line so maybe if you're in a hurry stop in here! Definitely worth the visit.

Fransisca P.

Yelp
Good burger in town! A must try but prepare for the super long queue..you might wanna have it for breakfast..

Keith P.

Yelp
From this experience, I learned that New Zealand donuts are caky and delicious. I tried their famous crème filled donut, and it was everything I wanted from a donut- plentiful filling and not too sweet. The service staff was friendly and provided my party and I with free crème cheese for our bagels. I can't wait to try a Fergburger.

Jonathan S.

Yelp
The Fergbaker is part of the strip of Ferg businesses. It is super busy and always has a line out out the door, so it is very crowded and hectic inside. When you taste their food, you will understand why. The pastries are nice and flaky and the fillings are very tasty. There isn't anywhere to sit inside, but there are limited outdoor seating or take your yumminess over to the lake and enjoy them lakeside.

Marcos D.

Yelp
Very tasty, the pastry is not as flaky as other establishments, but very good nonetheless. The lamb was in large chunks but could use more seasoning

Andrea A.

Yelp
Had the famous Boston Creme; It did not disappoint. The donut was super fluffy, there was an abundance of delicious, not super sweet, cream. Delicious! Can't wait to return for meat pies and croissants.

Mary F.

Yelp
The brownies are OUT OF THIS WORLD. We got one to share and made a point of going back before we left town because it was the best brownie either my husband or I ever had. It wasn't overly sweet but was fudgy yet still very light. We also got fococcia bread, a few pies, and a piece of pizza. I got the ferg pie and it was way, way better than a jimmys pie from a dairy. Way better than I anticipated. Service was quick and efficient.

Ariana K.

Yelp
Absolutely the best meat pies! The outside is fresh and flakey and the inside filling is warm, savory and delicious. Because we came here in winter time for snowboarding, the warm pie was perfect for the cold weather. And they are super affordable, all under $10 and they come out quick! It is a popular eatery for good reasons, so don't be surprised if there is a long line. This place is definitely a must visit during your trip to Queenstown, NZL.

Yelp
I read, "Queenstown Eats: Famous Fergbaker hot pies to go". I went, "Five hot pies for takeaway please." I review, "Famous Fergbaker, hot pies must visit!" We lucked out, when we decided to visit, as there were no lines- we were able to easily approach the takeaway counter & all the pie styles we wanted were available, easy in&out. In comparison with our hot pie experiences while traveling across the South Island, the pies were well-sized and well-priced- good quality & quantity. We ordered: Ferg Pie (diced in gravy)-Lamb Shank (chunks & gravy) , Lamb Kumara (pulled lamb & veggies), Venison & Portabella (chunks), Mince (ground) My favorite was the classic mince- overstuffed, with ample ground meat, creating a hearty bit, not overwhelmed by sauce-in a perfectly flaky buttery crust Both lamb pies were well-balanced between hearty meat & other ingredients/sauce, letting the meat's freshness flavor shine through, subtle specialty flavor, and denser crust styles on top The Ferg Pie- the gravy took over the flavor profile, barely highlighting a steak flavor The Venison had more portabella than meat, but I liked the profile of the crust top-the way in which they layered the design helped by giving more breading to balance the gravy's richness Overall, they weren't the best pies we had in NZ, but they do make the Top List and are highly worth dining- they offer a great variety of pie flavor combination options- as well as a number of sweet bakery desserts and a few savory bakery specials for the day, along with freshly baked bread. Would visit again to keep comparing menu options

Poojitha S.

Yelp
Amazing bakery and seems to be quite popular in the area. There was a long line when we came here the first time . Got the chocolate almond croissant and Boston cream bun. Both were extremely delicious. We decided to come here again for the savory pies. Got the mushroom chicken bacon pie and veggie pie. It was like eating a warm delicious soup as a pie . Definitely recommend getting the chocolate almond croissant here , never had this combo before.

Anant G.

Yelp
The best shop in the Ferg family in our opinion! The line at Fergbaker is much smaller than Fergburger and moves very quickly. Skip the line at Fergburger and get a savory pie and the Boston cream donut at Fergbaker instead. We got the pain au chocolat, the Boston Cream donut, the lentil pie, and the danish. Everything was good, but the pain au chocolat and the danish were underwhelming compared to the Boston cream donut and the lentil pie. The Boston cream donut has the most amazing dough texture where it's soft but perfectly chewy. The cream is extremely rich and fluffy and not overly sugary! The lentil pie has the most amazing flakey shell and the inner filling comes hot, fresh, and well flavored.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Best pies in NZ. The venison pie is to die for. Had it a few times while we were there. Steak pie was great too. The mince pie was solid. But maybe a it too fancy. Service amicable. Well worth the visit. Especially since the lines were much much shorter vs the burger spot.

Audrey G.

Yelp
Amazing assortment of breads, pastries, and pies, and everything tasted delicious! We stopped by in the afternoon to pick up breakfast for the next day, and enjoyed it so much we came back again. Prices are fair, and the line moves pretty fast, so we were in and out quickly both times we visited. The hardest decision is actually choosing what to order because there are so many options!

Mary F.

Yelp
Great place for a quick bite to eat, on the way to an adventure! Delicious and satisfying

Marshall A.

Yelp
Touristy, but very tasty pies (nicely spiced and good crust) and coffee with quick service. Worth a visit.

Kelly N.

Yelp
While Fergburger next door gets most of the fanfare for the burgers, the bakery next door has some of the best meat pies in town. The lamb shank is a special favorite, but I tried the vegetarian lentil pie which was also really good. Flaky crust and warms you from the inside out. Line moves fast and you can take it to eat down by the lake.

Dave S.

Yelp
Awesome pastries and cakes at this iconic Queenstown eatery. Sometimes the queues go around the block so be prepared to wait. Food is all delicious and full of flavour so worth the wait. You can call ahead for orders to save time.

Justin C.

Yelp
After a meal in Queenstown where do you go for a sweet treat? Fergbaker is the spot to go! Plenty of options from a whole pie to a small tart. After perusing what options they offered, we chose the Boston cream donut, a cheesecake and an chocolate almond croissant. Definitely 5/5, good to the last bite!

Chun P.

Yelp
PIES!!! I spent 2 weeks in New Zealand eating meat pies throughout my travel. Whether its a warm meat pie, or a fruit pie, Fergbaker is perhaps the best in the world! $7NZ Lamb Meat Pie...larger than the other meat pies I'd previously eaten, and the very best of all them. The pie crust is extra flaky and does an extraordinary job keeping savory succulent lamb chunks and gravy well inside its buttery confines. PERFECTION! $5 Blueberry Pie...this is the best Blueberry Pie on Earth. Its packed with actual sweet blueberries, with very little jam filler. The buttery crust is thick and heavenly. I'm depressed that this perfect pie is 7100 miles away from my home in San Diego. Does Uber Eats deliver to San Diego. These pies are a MUST eat while in Queenstown, cheap and delicious! Unfortunately I never got a chance to try their world famous burgers...next time!

Sue F.

Yelp
Very little filling nearly all pastry in mince and cheese.... Jimmy's pies much more filling

Jonny M.

Yelp
After hiking up the Queenstown Hill, we needed food to refuel. We decided to drop by Fergbaker as it looked pretty delicious the day before when we were in line for Fergburger. We dropped in on a Friday afternoon (around 1:00pm). It's busy but people are continuously coming in and out. They've got a ton of things to choose from: pretzels, pies, cookies, croissants, breads, scones, danishes, bagels, baguettes, focaccia, cakes, eclairs, donuts and tarts. For drinks, there's smoothies, juices, coffee and tea. - Venison & portabello mushroom pie ($6.90 NZD) - think this is their most popular pie option. Good filling of venison, onions and portabello mushrooms. The crust was wonderfully flaky and overall, lovely texture. It's the priciest pie we've bought in all of NZ. - Smoked salmon bretzel ($8.90 NZD) - this was a dud. Should have got the mojito chicken sandwich instead. There was only smoked salmon, spinach, capers and cream cheese inside. Really stingy and cheap with the ingredients. Pass on this, especially when you can get a burger next door for a few dollars more. - Ferg's famous boston cream pie ($4.50 NZD) - this lived up to the hype. The filling was superb; it tasted like a lighter version of oreo ice cream. The dough itself had a satisfying bite. Get one! Stick with the sweets and pies and you'll be delighted. Tons of selection and everything is made fresh.

Jenel O.

Yelp
Oh man... how I love breads. It's like heaven in there. So many freshly baked breads and reasonable prices (well, compared to Hawaii anyway). My absolute FAVORITE has to be the smoked salmon bretzel. It's a pretzel bread with smoked salmon, tomatos and other goodies inside! It's wrapped so cute with a little lemon to squeeze before eating. The hot chocolate is basically a melted chocolate bar - can't go wrong here either! I had a bite of one of their pies and they are equally as spectacular as the above favorites. Likewise was their pesto and proscuitto loaf. Oh man, I could go on and on but you should stop reading now and JUST GO! Storefront is sandwiched between Ferg Gelato and Fergburger.

Crystal N.

Yelp
Walking in, you're immediately hit with the smell of the fresh pastries. Their cases are filled with fabulous looking foods, but their meat pies is what caught my eye. I had the Ferg pie, the classic pie with braised NZ steak and caramelized onions. It was phenomenal, flaky, buttery pastry encasing this wonderful braised steak. It tasted like hours of braising went into that meat. It's a must for anyone in Queenstown!

Sara B.

Yelp
DATE OF VISIT: end of February 2020 We stopped here before our bike tour and it was perfect! They were fast with getting our orders and the pies came out HOT! My husband was dying to try venison and lamb in New Zealand and this was recommended to us as a great way to try those things without a hefty price tag. Overall they both were good and easy to eat while waiting for our tour to start. The pastry portion was delicious, my steak pie just tasted like a regular beef stew in a pie. Nothing too crazy to write home about. Would I go out of my way to go here again? Not necessarily. It wasn't bad, but I, personally, much preferred to return to Fergburger or other restaurants around the area. For a quick bite though, it is a GREAT stop.

Suzie L.

Yelp
Sensational pies!! This bakery has the most delicious pies and pastries and unlike it's sister establishment next door, there are no queues! The venison and portobello mushroom pie was amazing!

Melinda M.

Yelp
If you're from America or another country that strangely doesn't have meat pies, this place is more of a cultural experience than Fergburger! The pies taste great, there's no line (at least when I went), and there's lots of choices.

Raj B.

Yelp
Fantastic bakery! We bought a beef and cheese meat pie along with a few sandwiches for a picnic. Everything was fresh and very tasty.

Izzy W.

Yelp
I've tried a number of their pies and of course their boston cream donut. Their boston cream donut is a must try and the best i've had! (and this is coming from a Bostonian) the cream is light and fluffy on the inside and it's not too sweet. Their pies are great and have a flaky crust, definitely beats the crust of the the bakery queenstown across the street (although they have good pies too). My favorite was the pork belly pie, super juicy and succulent with a bit of sweetness from the apple. The venison & portobello pie was surprisingly good too and was my second favorite. The lamb kumara & horopito (has sweet potato) and the chicken bacon mushroom, which was juicy and creamy, were both really good as well. I also tried the ferg steak & cheese but felt the steak was drier than the pork or chicken. The bacon & egg was tasty and tasted like quiche or a breakfast sandwich but was a little too dry. The chili beef and cheese was alright, personally not the biggest fan of the combo of flavors. All the pies are served hot and have lovely designs on top. tldr - you must try the boston cream donut! the pork belly pie is also delicious!

Andrew C.

Yelp
This Ferg family has it going on. When you have a (famous) gelato spot, a (famous) bakery, and a (famous) burger spot all next to each other, you've done something right. See a long line for the infamous Fergburger? Grab something from baker instead and save yourself some heartache. Baker was a spot I went to just about every day, sometimes multiple times in the day. The breakfast pastries are delicious beyond belief. Sweets: Boston cream donut: There's something about the consistency of this donut and the delicious cream inside that made this a must-get during each trip. Almost croissant: This is a dense, tasty croissant. Reminds me of the twice-baked croissants in seattle, but this was delicious and worth a breakfast stop. Banana bread: Small, portable banana bread that is packed full of flavor. Savory: Pork belly and apple pie: Their most popular meat pie. omg-worthy. I've seen this sell out so many times it's worth a try Fergpie: What else can you expect out of a pie named after the franchise? I've tried many of the other ones, none of which disappointed. They also offer an amazing bacon and egg croissant sandwich that was drool worthy. Everything here was extremely affordable and you get in and out quickly. There's no single file line structure -- you just need to step up to the counter whenever someone asks for the next person. Lots of good coffee available as well. Definitely a winner!

Cornelious L.

Yelp
Boston creme puff was awesome! My wife like her mud cake. Service was fun and competent.

Eric J.

Yelp
We visited Fergbaker everyday we were in town. They offer a wide variety of baked goods both sweet and savory to match your needs anytime of the day. The almond croissant was sweet and flaky with an excellent crunchy exterior but if you want something a little different try the spinach and cheese muffin. We also enjoyed the raisin danish and blueberry crumble muffin. For lunch we sampled their meat pies, choosing the beef chili pie which had stewed beef, beans, jalapeños, cheddar cheese and sour cream... everything you want in a traditional chili with the benefit of being able to eat with your hands. Stuck waiting in line for their famous brother burger joint next door? Pop in here instead!

Mac R.

Yelp
We became slightly obsessed with Fergbaker during our Queenstown stay. It was an every morning staple for coffee and whatever droolworthy items jumped out at us on any given day - and trust me, there's a lot of delightful looking treats in their cases. You can't go wrong with their bagels (jalapeño was worthy of a repeat), tomato basil focaccia, muffins, etc. We eyed their sandwiches for days and happily had an opportunity to pick 2 of those up for lunch one day. Service was always cheerful, friendly & prompt. It's a must do if you're in downtown Queenstown!

Eva R.

Yelp
When in queenstown, everyone knows to go to fergburger but the lesser known must go to place is their bakery. The bacon and egg roll is delicious. A nice hearty bun, runny fried egg, bacon, aioli, and relish. The Boston creme pie donut is also out of this world with a heap of vanilla creme inside. The savoury scone was nice as well. They also a had wide variety of pies. Everything in the case looked delectable. I came here three times during my trip and still wanted to go back! Highly recommend if you are in Queenstown.

Nathan W.

Yelp
Super yummy and fresh. The staff was super helpful and since we were from out of town they walked us through all their offerings and what drinks were popular.

Joey T.

Yelp
The hidden gem of Ferg restaurants, I honestly thought that Fergbakery was more deserving of praise than the infamous Ferg burger. There is no line in front of the Ferg Bakery as compared to the sister restaurant immediately adjacent, the burger joint. I think that the baked goods were some of the best we had while on vacation; the blue cheese and steak meat pie was scrumptious, the blueberry pie with scoop of vanilla gelato was so decadent, and the venison meat pie was so good. All the desserts were very reasonable priced and the flaky crust was buttery and delicious. We went back probably three times for the bakery because they made great desserts/quick breakfast options before a full day of NZ adventures!

Sharjil K.

Yelp
I mean seriously - this place is right by Fergburger and basically tempting all the customers in the Fergburger line to give up and come into the bakery to grab one of their pies. To be fair the meat pie wasn't bad. I wouldn't say this is great though. This Ferg family clearly own Queenstown.

Jacky L.

Yelp
Donut is good, service was terrible would come back if they review their service . . . .

Sam L.

Yelp
Omg... first meat pie ever in my mouth and subsequently fell in love with them. Ordered the classic minced meat pie right before our flight to Auckland and wowowowow what a great hearty breakfast. The flakiness of the pie, on point. It's located right next to the famous Fergburger which everyone also needs to go to. Ferg, ftw.

Victoria M.

Yelp
Setup: trying meat pies! The better: holy meat pies! Flaky crusts, rich meat and gravy fillings, piping hot deliciousness. Other savory bread items and sweet pastries were well received also. Coffee window to help ease up the line. The lesser: lines sometimes, really hot inside Observations: why do we not have a place like this in Houston?!

Lily H.

Yelp
There's such a variety of desserts, pastries, breads to choose from and they're all very good. The pastries and desserts are rich but not overly sweet. The Boston cream donut really is a signature, delicious! The Belgian hot chocolate is also super rich and yummy. We didn't get a chance to try the bread loaves but knowing how good the bun is at Fergburger and how many people were buying the breads, they must be good. The shop is open until 4:30AM and open again early so you can really get your fix any time of the day.

Purwanto L.

Yelp
Breakfast with hot chocolate, milk chocolate donut and almond chocolate croissant from Fergbaker. Hoy Choco is too sweet. Donut is the best as the chocolate just melt in your mouth. . Food : 4/5 Service : 3/5 Price : $$ Place : 3/5 . Halal Rest : Fergbaker Location : Queenstown City : New Zealand .

Christie S.

Yelp
This place is better than Fergburger! The lines are much much shorter, and the food is less expensive. If you're in Queenstown, do not skip Fergbaker. I loved the Boston creme donut and all of the lamb pies. I wish I could've stayed in Queenstown longer just so I could eat here again!

Kade B.

Yelp
The meat pies here are amazing. If they only had that it would be worth going to, but it also has amazing pastries and doughnuts as well as juices and coffee. Got breakfast here basically every morning. And the wait is super short.

Alicia C.

Yelp
Just go now! The pastries are unreal. Whether you like it sweet or savory this place has something for you. I would highly recommend the almond croissant, savory thai chicken pie, boston cream donut, and the ham & cheese croissant. We had breakfast here on our first morning, saw all the great stuff, and came back the next 2 mornings and for an afternoon snack as well. So great! Don't miss it!

Carolyn Z.

Yelp
THE MEAT PIES HERE ARE BOMB! THEY ARE A MUST GET ITEM!! Came here at the recommendation of a tour driver for a quick bite to eat. Having never really had any meat pies before, the tour driver said that it was A MUST before leaving NZ. I did have my doubts as I went to Fergburger, right next door, the night before for dinner and it didn't blow my mind. However, the pies were just phenomenal and I was glad it was my first experience eating a mince pie because for the rest of my time in NZ, if I could get a pie for a snack or quick meal, I did. Sadly, none of them matched the flavor of the one I had a Fergbaker. The crust was just so flaky and buttery, the inside was well-seasoned and it all came together beautifully. And because this is a bakery, they also sell other things like bread, croissants, pastries, and drinks. The croissants were also flaky and buttery. If you are in Queenstown, you must come here and get a pie.
