Ferndale Museum

Volunteers were great! Nice little museum. $2 per adult, kids under 16 are free. Definitely worth checking out, there are some interesting things and stories.

Very nicely done display of local historical items. Docent led tours add additional information and local flavor. Well worth spending a couple of hours for all ages.

We had a docent led tour of the museum. He was so knowledgeable about the history of the area. The displays were wonderful. Highly recommend! The town is beautiful too.

The staff were super friendly and very knowledgeable about all of the exhibits. I loved all of the old phones and farm equipment. Very nice spot, I would recommend it very much and I am definitely going to be coming back.

I love visiting this museum. One of my favorite parts are the exhibits of interior spaces, such as a barber shop. It's reminiscent of the displays at the Royal BC museum in Victoria, which is one of the highest compliments I can offer. You would never expect so much in a small town museum, but the Ferndale museum delivers!

Jerry filled my head with historical facts about Ferndale and nearby areas. We talked for about an hour. Parking is free 2hrs parking. The cost is only 2 dollars.

Ok, this is a hidden gem ( not well hidden). My son and I took the haunted tour and were delighted by the staff and displays!

Excellent museum displays depicting the history of Ferndale. Definitely worth the $2 admission! Was within easy walking distance of the Main Street. Diane was staffing the reception desk and was very friendly, helpful and informative.

I've loved this museum ever since I was knee high to a bugs eye. I love that admittance is a buck and that their gift shop carries some really fun and fantastic items. But beyond that it's just fun to come and learn more about Ferndale and it's history. Funny that just by living here, I kinda became part of it's history too.

Ferndale takes its history very seriously, and the museum proves it. For me, the highlight was a working seismograph, explained in detail by a knowledgeable docent. It's the oldest seismograph in the United States, and it registers every earthquake in the world except Europe. The museum keeps the paper record of all major quakes, so you can actually see the 2010 Haiti earthquake record, for example. The museum looks kind of small from the outside, but it's actually two levels of really cool stuff. Downstairs is filled with tools, farming implements, logging equipment and dairy supplies. Upstairs includes several Victorian era tableaus, an old-fashioned telephone switchboard, a selection of local art, and a nicely curated gift shop.

This museum is a total gem. The displays are in small rooms with windows to look at. For $1 to get in, this was well worth it. The lady behind the desk was very helpful and pointed us in places of interest around the area. For $1 you can't do any better.

Just big enough to get a taste of old Ferndale, small enough to be a snack. Great way of breaking things into 'rooms'.

Surprisingly large, the outside doesn't look like it could hold all that "stuff." The seismograph was/is impressive. Could be the oldest one still in use at least here on the west coast. Great staff, interesting displays. Listen to the player piano too! One of the "must see" spots in Ferndale, just off the main street a half-block.Ferdale is an amazing town to explore with very friendly folks around, don't be surprised if a stranger walking by says "Hello!" "Nice day isn't it?" Definitely not a New York attitude around here!

My boyfriend and I were staying Ferndale for my birthday, and I picked the day the museum was closed to be born! Anyhow we were peeping around the museum, and when I pepped inside a pair of eyes were peering back at me! Some nice man who worked for the museum invited us inside despite them being closed! It was so very kind of him! We got a guided tour of the museum:) It was really neat to learn about the congressman, Don Clausen, who was from Ferndale. The artifacts are really neat; especially the baskets woven by local Native American tribes. It was cool to see all of the Victorian home furnishings as well! Definitely stop by here if you're visiting Ferndale!
