Hiked up the beautiful Fernkloof Nature Reserve to the waterfall and met Mr Tortoise at the start. Then the bench of "quiet contemplation". Lots of steps. Saw a beautiful U-shaped rock formation and we saw some beautiful flowers. Climbed up to the waterfall, stunningly beautiful. Worth the climb. Saw a beautiful gem of a fern. Stunning walk back. We met a Bearded Dragon I think, I named him Steven Tyler. Beautiful walk to sooth the Soul. Highly recommend this.

Fernkloof is a truly stunning nature reserve with a variety of hiking trails for all levels. We chose the Red Trail to the waterfall, which we completed in about 90 minutes. The route was not only enjoyable but rewarded us with absolutely beautiful views of the mountains and surrounding landscape. A special thank you goes to the Visitor Centre staff and the ranger on duty: their warm welcome, guidance on the routes, and presence to ensure safety made the experience even better. If you’re in Hermanus, this is an absolute must-visit for nature lovers.

A lovely relatively gentle 4km walk up Fernkloof loop to get great views of the surrounding hills and down over Hermanus. We saw baboons up close, as well as the wild tortoises.

A must see reserve in Hermanus. The staff members in the visitor’s centre were very kind and knowledgeable. The reserve is kept spotless and none of the trails, including the remote ones, were overgrown. There is a large variety of flowers, especially ericas. Some of the many native trees in the valley are labelled which is a nice touch. Furthermore, there are multiple benches all over for one to rest and admire the view and all the dangerous parts have a railing or support of some sort.

What a wonderful little trail .free to enter. We attempted the 3 Damme trail on a cool Sunday morning the rangers at the start were very helpful in pointing us in the right direction and the signage is also very clear as to where to go . The path to the 1st dam was well marked and took 30 minutes to reach at a leisurely pace , stopping a lot to take photos of the gorgeous views . We only did the 1st dam and headed back and encountered some baboons on our return but then just went in another direction when they saw us and all was well. Overall loved the location.

One of the best nature reserves open to the public. There are many trails to choose from, ranging from beginner to expert. There is ample parking available, with security guards on duty. The also have rangers who are there to hike with you if you want. The trails are quite open to the elements, there is not much tree or shade cover. So remember your sunscreen, and windbreaker.

Excellent hiking trails with beautiful flowers. You can hike up to the 3 dams. Or there is another path which takes you to a high point with majestic views of Hermanus and R44. Better to have a person who knows the trails. No real risk of getting lost but will save time
