Fernwood Resort and Campground

Fernwood Campground & Resort is in such a beautiful, majestic setting — truly what you picture when you think of Big Sur. The campsites are spacious and having water and electric hookups made everything easy and comfortable. The river is clean and peaceful, and the grounds are very well manicured and cared for. One of my favorite parts was the easy hiking trail that connects directly to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, giving access to even more scenic trails without needing to move the car. The camp store is super convenient and well stocked with essentials, and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. The only downside — and the reason for 4 instead of 5 stars — is that the $20 dump fee felt unexpected and seems like it should be included in the campsite price. Other than that, it was a wonderful stay and I’d absolutely come back.

This place is absolutely majestic. But if yo are expecting peace and quiet while enjoying the sound of the river, you may be surprised. My one suggestion would be to have a campsite attendant on site until at least 10 PM. In our experience, several campers ignored quiet hours and general campsite etiquette, blasting music late into the night. The location itself is phenomenal, but without someone enforcing quiet hours it can be tough to fully enjoy.

Clean amenities and a great location! The campsites are a little tight, but overall it’s a really nice campground. The on-site grocery store and awesome restaurant make things incredibly convenient. We stayed at campsite 64 near bridge, bathroom, and river and would happily return.

The motel rooms are cozy and nice, the bed is comfy. However, the walls and windows are extremely thin. You can hear EVERYTHING- from cars driving outside to guests talking next door. We are not light sleepers but we could not sleep.

Wonderful campground and hotel with direct access to hiking trails and the state Park. The restaurant is excellent, campsites clean, shaded and quiet. The store has anything you may need. Staff is very friendly. Make reservations in advance as it fills up.

Location is along a nice river and down a set of stairs of a restaurant and a general store/cafe. Our site had hookups and drinking water that tasted fine.

Location is wonderful -- surrounded by sequoias, and right on the river. We stayed in the tent cabins. The prices are crazy high, but that's what the private campgrounds go for here. Definitely avoid staying in the motel on weekends, as they always have loud music till 1am then; but down by the river it was not too bad. Camp in a state park if you can, but if everything is full, this is not a bad option if you can drop $200 a night.

We love the “glamping tents” and have come several times. Delicious food and cocktails plus great vibes on the large deck in the trees at the little restaurant. Anything you could need at the little general store. The creek running through the campsite is beautiful and so fun to spend the day swimming in— bring your tube and floaties!

My family and I stayed at the motel overnight when we realized we'd be setting up camping in the rain and in the dark down the road at Pfeiffer Big Sur. We called while on the way and were able to secure a room over the phone no problem. Our room was clean and the perfect size for us - it even had a small bonus bedroom my husband and I were able to hang out in after we put our son to bed. We had dinner in the main lodge restaurant the night we arrived restaurant and were really impressed with the garlic pasta and veggie pita. The general store attached to the restaurant has most supplies one could need for camping. We loaded up and stopped back a few times even after we left. Glow stick bracelets were a huge hit. We didn't explore the campground as we only stayed the one night. All the staff we chatted with were super friendly! We would 100% return and recommend Fernwood to our friends!

This was my first time eating here and it was great!! They have an awesome patio that overlooks the Big Sur river. And at each table they had nice flowers, so great ambiance! And the food was really good. We got the fried brussel sprouts, which came with a bourbon honey, golden raisins and blue cheese crumbles (def order these) and I got the fried chicken sando-no bun! Also really good. My bf had 2 great margaritas! We will definitely be back the next time we are up there! Oh and great service too!

2/12/25 the female at the front was so kind with so much information but we came back at 8:30 pm and the experience was so different the girl at the store knew nothing and was so rude. .

I reserved a cabin for April online a could weeks ago. I am not able to attend and wanted to cancel. They are charging me almost $70 to cancel (cancellation fees and online registration fees). Their cabins get booked all the time and there's plenty of time for someone else to book it. These cabins are super popular. No need to charge anything for canceling.

Our favorite camping spot! We come here annually every year. The beautiful river, trees, and foliage is always so relaxing and allows one to recharge instantly. But, it does book quickly; thus, you should book a year in advance to get the dates you desire or else it is slim pickings! You can bring your RV, get a spot to tent camp, rent their tent cabins or get a hotel room. So many options! I so love Fernwood!

Amazingly beautiful camp with very clean bathroom and shower. Also had electric with 30 amp and 120 v for my tesla. Will be coming back again soon.

Updated review..... after staying our 3rd night, there's a few concerns, we managed through, but it's worth mentioning. First, there are several families here with children and teens. And being in a close-knit camping community, they can be loud, the kids are OK, it's the teens allowed to run loose screaming and shouting, especially after hours. Then you have dog owners who have their dogs parking.... sometimes driving us crazy. Across the river a lady let her tethered dog loose- this door took off running up and down the river barking at other dogs and folks camped along the river! Wow! The lady owner did not have any sense of urgency securing her large dog upsetting people quickly grabbing their dogs to safety. I hope the staff here read this and make some changes. Innregards to the staff, very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable about the grounds, but.... The staff here are very young and have a hard time addressing or enforcing rules, unruly teens, barking dogs, and loud music after hours (10pm). The blue Jays, although beautiful, are very noisy, all day and especially in the morning. DO NOT feed them or they will invade your site. Keep food in your tent when not in use. Overall, a nice experience, but at night, you never know who will camp next to you... bringing earplugs next time.

We ate here 3 nights in a row and enjoyed everything we had. Blake the bartender is wonderful. He makes fantastic drinks and is very knowledgeable and makes suggestions both with food and drink. We will be back!

Had an awesome first camping experience with our young children at Fernwood! We stayed in one of five cabins on site during July 2023. The cabin is fully furnished with five beds, dining area, kitchen, bathroom, even pots and pans and bedding. Basically all the comforts of home. Staff is kind and helpful and they have a small restaurant and convenience store on site. Great location tucked away off the highway in the trees along the Big Sur river where we spent a long time playing in the water and soaking up the sun. Lots of tents and RVs set up but it didn't feel loud or crowded. Quiet time after 10 pm but you're able to stay outside and enjoy a bonfire Ave the sounds of nature. So peaceful and relaxing. On that note, no Wi-Fi at the cabins but there is Wi-Fi and reception up by the store and restaurant. I left my favorite jersey behind in the cabin so I called them right away. They found it and shipped it back to my house! Overall this was a great experience and we can't wait to return!

For camping: Pros: bathrooms are pretty clean, WiFi (although it's spotty) and proximity to the restaurant and market Cons: spots are very very close to each other, and families let their kids run wild. In a state owned campsite there's a camp host who enforces the rules but here you just hope your neighbors are considerate (mine weren't). Fernwood let me move to another spot so I could get away from the noisy neighbors, but they probably won't stay here again. It's twice the cost of Pfeiffer Bug Sur and the spots are less than 1/3 the size. Not worth the extra money to stay here.

We had an amazing time on thanksgiving this year. The tent cabins were clean and water proof. Also our site(6 & 7) were right next to the river with towering redwoods all around us. We are locals and this is one of our favorite spots. Clean, organized with friendly staff and a nice layout. Highly recommend!

My review is based on TENT/CAR CAMPING: If you're used to camping, you might think the price is pretty hefty for this place. But it's worth it! You get really clean flush toilets, free showers, clean bathrooms, great forest ambiance--lots of shade. A lot of the campsites have access to the river. When we went in April, the water was shallow but still a river. As far as food goes, you can walk up to the restaurant. On Saturdays at 7 pm, they have a live band playing. Super chill woodsy vibes. Their food is great too! You can sit outside or inside, and even order take-out, but I would recommend sitting outside. They have access to the state park within the camp as well. Would recommend it. You would have to turn back around as it does not loop to a different entrance in the campground, as far as I knew. We went 1.5miles in and there was still more to go. It's a clear path and relatively on the more accessible side. You can hike up to a waterfall. The roundtrip would have been about 5 miles. Also if you forgot firewood for the campfire, they have some available at the entrance for $13 when I went. Overall, the best camping ground I've gone to so far. Would definitely come back, probably in the summer to have some river fun.

Had a good camping experience here. Beautiful spot, and friendly staff! Cleanest restrooms I have seen at a camp place!! We had a blast! We will be back. Awesome store too! Shout out to Zeke and his dog....for being a friendly and helpful check in person.

There's no internet connection from my room when I came here to stay at the motel. My friend and I were bored out of our minds at night. I like this place but perhaps there are better places in the area for the same price. This is the first hotel I've been to in Big Sur.

Totally Recommended!! Our first time staying at the Motel. We loved the friendliness of Jennifer Verdeja- we had the best customer service! Rooms fine for the inexpensive BIG SUR price you pay!' We had Room H with our own hot tub. Heating worked great ... Rustic but comfortable! Redwoods are in your backyard. So beautiful!! We loved the Restaurant! It was our first time.Our server was super friendly !! Again prices were reasonable!!! I am looking forward to going again and again!!

We called to cancel our reservation due to the landslide on Hwy 1, and were informed that they charge a $25 cancellation fee. So, even though there are unsafe road conditions leading to and from the resort, they still refuse to waive the $25 fee, which is hidden in the fine print on their website. Don't worry, we will be disputing this with our credit card company, and we will not be including Fernwood in any future travel plans.

Amazing views from back patio, dog friendly and GREAT FOOD & fast service with a super pleasant staff. Their cocktails are also great. Definitely suggest stopping by if you are in the area!

Beautiful location with convenient access to nearby state park but that is where it ends. I have come here for years and am sorry to say that I will not be coming back. They have continued to jam more and more camping spots into their little location, while increasing their rates significantly. Despite this, their customer service is comparable to a call center in India. On our recent last minute trip we had to stay in two different spots due to limited availability. This was not their fault and we accepted that we would have to pack up and switch spots. Accordingly we packed everything hastily in our van to comply with the 11am checkout. Unfortunately the people staying in our second spot we're not as considerate and remained long after the checkout time. We then asked the person at the check in booth if we could a) leave our vehicle parked in the original spot (everything packed inside) until the noon check in time; b) park our van in clearing next to the original spot; or c) any alternative that would not require me to reorganize the van in order to fit my wife and toddler inside while we wait for the other people to leave. The only accommodation we were provided was to park our van on highway 1 outside of the campground--even though technically nobody could move into our other spot till 12 anyways l--and wait till 12 to reenter start the process all over again. For a $125/night camping spot I would expect more. I will be looking at alternative for our next stay.

Several loud ass neighbors who nobody cared to tell to shut up. Even after the 10pm quiet time they are so loud I cannot sleep. Had to yell at them to get them to shut their kids up. I go camping about ten times a year and have for years and have never had such a horrible experience. They need to space out the spots, get someone to go around the spots at night to make sure rules are followed, or drop their prices significantly. Absolutely ridiculous.

I just spent 3 days at this lovely campground in Big Sur and it was such a great time! We had a nice, private Camp spot with plenty of shade and a great view of the Big Sur River. We encountered a lot of very friendly fellow campers and the staff was helpful. It is a great place to camp with kids because they can play in the river all day long. I am already planning a trip for next summer!

I used to love Fernwood . Not so much anymore . The restaurant was expensive and not as good as it used to be . Too many people now , campsites too close together.

We camped here for Thanksgiving and it was SO cute!! Not the cheapest campsite ($100) and you're deff pretty packed in there. But we woke up to a river, the camp was clean and the restaurant is really awesome. Lit up by twinkle lights in the middle of a red wood forest, we had the whole place to ourself practically and enjoyed a 5 course Thanksgiving meal ($35). Just really enjoyed this place as a camping splurge, would recommend!

Stayed Thursday Feb. 2nd-Saturday Feb. 4th. Arrived around 2:30pm. No one at checkin cabin when I arrived. But detailed direction on how to check in. Found my spot. Stayed at Site #11. Great site on the river. Has electrical, and water. Site was flat. Didn't have to level out too bad. Sites were clean. They put some work in recently, possibly due to the recent storm. Did not visit the bathroom or showers. As I have a travel trailer. I have a 28ft trailer. It was the perfect size. Especially since I was the only person staying there the first night. I can imagine during summer bringing a trailer in would be a tad difficult. Not impossible. Back to check in... Once parked. I went to the main store up on the highway. Attached to the restaurant. Check in was simple. The store pretty much has everything needed in case you forget something. Once checked in, we took our pups for a walk around the park. Very well maintained. Sites seem to be roomy. I highly Recommend Fernwood!! Will definitely stay again

Stayed here 5 nights in our RV as part of a month-long trip up and down the California Coast and would give it 3.5 stars. Have to say - Big Sur was pretty underwhelming. The Coastline is beautiful, but a lot of the trails are shut due to fire restoration, making everything else extremely crowded. For Fernwood - the stay mid-week was lovely. Not nearly as busy, and the wildlife came out abundantly. The RV sites along the river were peaceful, and we appreciated the electric and water hookups. We did not enjoy the price tag, especially as you had to pay extra for dumping, showers, pets, and children (seriously, our one child was extra per night). It is extremely noisy in the campground on the weekend. Quiet hours we not enforced, and sites are close together. The site next to us was having a party and it was extremely loud. My husband had to leave our RV and ask them to quiet down at midnight. Blaring music, yelling vulgarity...it was just too much. Additionally, just really poor traffic patterns to get down to the river. We had unattended kids running through our campsite to go to the river at all hours, along with people walking their dogs. We were chill with it until a child nearly ran into our fire if we hadn't blocked him. Also, kids throwing rocks at birds, ducks, and people leaving trash on the riverfront. I get it is not Fernwood's behavior, but for the price you pay, this should be patrolled more. The general store and ice cream shop is great. The food from the restaurant is quite good (though, like everything in Big Sur, very overpriced). Just again left feeling nickel and dimed for a very dusty, uncontrolled and not peaceful environment which is is disappointing for a place you come to so you can escape and be with nature.

Stayed there for about Four days. Not much water in the river. The staff there came up to our party (at that time only 3 people) after quiet hours and told them to turn off our phone as we weren't allowed to play music. But directly across from us there was a full blown birthday party going on with balloons, excessive crowd, and being very loud. The rest of our family members were across the lake and they can hear the loud crowd until at least 1am. Nothing was ever told to this party. Yea they had approached us earlier during the day about (4pm for being loud) but after that we refrained from loud noises. The times we were approached by their workers they were rude so of course our response wasn't the nicest. The following day we were informed by our neighbors (the party crowd from the bday) that their friends worked there. This was definitely the reason why they weren't told to quiet down. I have a 4 month baby and they were being extremely loud in the middle of the night waking the baby. I understand it may get loud but they have to be fair with everyone. Also their workers need more customer service training.

Fernwood is my absolute favorite place to stay in Big Sur. The cabin tents are the perfect camping experience for people who don't want to sleep in regular tents and don't have RVs. Each cabin tent has a parking spot and a fire pit right outside. We usually make hot dogs and smores but I've seen people cook salmon and steak out there. It's beautiful and clean and there is nature EVERYWHERE. We've been here about six times and the restrooms and showers have always been clean. It feels so magical being there, like a dream or a movie. We always meet the sweetest people and drive further down the coast seeing all of Big Sur which is close by.

Ambience: amidst the woods, cool patio with string lights and heaters. There are stairs leading to river and cabins . Only annoyance is flies and bugs, but that's being in nature . There is WiFi in case nature the woods bore you. Host: Zeeek is amiable and outstanding. Food: we tried Karma pizza (pesto, goatcheese, mozzarella, red onions, artichokes). It's a huge pie to share for two people. Firewood crust pizza is so crisp , you can even see the air pockets, and something unique is sesame seeds on crust. highly recommend trying.

Had an absolutely amazing time out in Fernwood recently! My friends and I rented an RV from LA and dove right into the lifestyle... This is where Fernwood gets its points for accessibility. Yes, the Resort costs more than most other campgrounds and RV parks, but the amenities you get in exchange were worth it for our novice group. To start, the RV campsites are mainly located in a prime spot around the gorgeous Big Sur River. Electric and water are easy to hookup to. If you don't want to use the bathroom on your camper, there are multiple large, clean campground bathrooms for you to use with showers. The convenience store was also a must for late night and early morning snacks! It's truly glamping in every sense of the word and we loved every minute of it. If you're looking for something more rugged, go elsewhere. But if you're looking for a fun, family-friendly time, Fernwood is the way to go!

A beautiful, serene campground. Considering they've been closed for a while, I was impressed with how clean and attentive the grounds were- from the bathrooms to the trash area near our campsite. The trash area near the check in office was always overflowing and it looked gross, but this could be the fact that this area of the campground was more condensed with a lot more campers. We stayed at sites #23 and #24 and both sites were big enough for 3 families, 3 large tents. Site 24 is on the border of the campground that is adjacent to the state park with no one next to you, so you have so much more space and privacy to put down more than 1 tent. River access is not bad, a little bit of an embankment but all our kids had a blast floating down the creek on their rafts. Sites 20-24 are more private and you feel like you're in your own campground.

This has been one of my favorite places for many years. We always stay in the hotel with a private hot tub. I don't mind paying more because it's so beautiful and serene to be in the redwoods with your own private hot tub. Booked for two nights and one full day. Woke up and they were doing construction on a room next door which because it was raining we got to listen to all day. We took our tub and came back in to shower and there was no water at all. Assuming it was turned off for the construction we waited until after they stopped to try to shower again. Now it was apparent the shower head was almost completely calcified and absolutely not usable as there are only a few tiny streams of water all shooting in different directions. Woke up this morning to ask them to check it out and fix if possible. The construction is now outside and so loud that we can't even take a tub before leaving. Two stars because they did fix the shower head promptly but considering the disruption of the construction (and not being warned before booking!) and unusable shower this was a terrible stay and we were not even offered a discount. I unfortunately won't be back.

I've stayed twice at this beautiful private campsite along the Big Sur river with my fiancé and French Bulldog. The tent sites are dog-friendly and the grounds are well maintained. We loved all the conveniences offered by this incredible location! The restaurant / bar and general store are only a short trek away from the campground providing everything you could possibly need for a luxury experience. Firewood is also available and sold in bundles. The campground has a well kept bathhouse with toilets / showers and laundry machines. I thought the communal outdoor sink for washing dishes was a nice amenity! We loved the private access to hiking trails that lead into the state park as well. Fernwood has it all -- you'll definitely want to stay that extra day!

The outdoor patio is so spacious with large redwood trees wherever you glance, even coming up in the middle of the deck. Unique menu items that feature the local picked chanterelle mushrooms, had a delicious root vegetable soup that I'm still dreaming about how I might recreate. Nice affordable wines from the kegs, which is better for the environment!

This resort motel, General Store and restaurant are all on the Highway 1 . I heard the traffic 'whoosh' by for most of the night, thankfully the 'whooshing' was sparse and far between, which meant a pleasant night sleep. What is great about this place is the camping below the hotel in the Big Sur River. The camping sites hug the river and feel secluded away from the road. I much prefer the gentle babbling hum of the river as compared to the 'whoosh' of road.

Our stay at Fernwood was fantastic! We stayed in one of the cabins which was the perfect size for our group of 4 but will definitely work for a group of 6 as well. We ended up reserving the "waterfall cabin" which was secluded and just steps away from the start of a few local hiking trails. Pros: - Perfect location in the heart of the Big Sur coastline - Friendly staff - Restaurant on property with great food - Live music on the weekends (House of Mary was excellent!) - Well-stocked market - Access to local hiking trails Cons: - Must drive about 15 minutes to visit beaches/coastline - The road through the campground might be difficult for low-clearance vehicles Everything about of stay was excellent, from the check-in process to the friendly staff... they even went out of our way to ship me my watch that I had left in the cabin! Looking forward to our next visit to Fernwood!

I completely understand that it's a remote location and should be judged as such, but I have to review honestly. We got a room with a queen bed, patio and a hot tub. The room is super small but charming and cute with wood floors, decal and a wood stove for warmth. No technology like TV, fridge, microwave or WiFi.The wood stove is controlled by a thermostat on the wall. The patio with the hot tub is spacious. You have to fill the hot tub yourself (which takes 45 mins to 1 hr). The biggest drawback is the lack of sound proofing in the motel rooms. You can literally hear every single sound from the room. We were in room H and could hear the band from the tavern loudly until 10 pm. 10 pm is "quiet time" but since the staff leaves at 10 pm, there is no one to monitor that. So we heard rowdy guests until about 12:30 am. We also got to hear car alarms, every car passing on HWY 1 and people walking past our rooms. It was a very restless night. But again, one can't be choosy at this remote location.

Came out here for a family trip out for the first time to experience Big Sur. Location - Easy to find the resort if you follow instructions or follow GPS. The harder part was finding the actual entrance to the camp site as it very narrow and seems like its a 1 lane to go up or down. Staff - People who work here are very friendly and nice and will help out with any needs. Venue - Place has a restaurant with games, bar, and good food, mini store for any forgotten items, large camp site if you get lucky with the right one, swing on the river side, clean bathrooms, laundry room, and more. Price - Not sure if it was a expensive weekend but I thought the nightly rate was expensive to not have full hook ups, but it was the only place that had availability. Also the black water drain cost like $20 or $25 compared to $5or10 at other places. Overall it was a nice peaceful resort to enjoy for kids or adults, no cell phone coverage for Sprint, and if a tree falls expect to hear people working during business hours cutting down the tree's.

My review is based on Adventure Tent "Glamping". If your idea of "glamping" is being in a tent, a nice tent, but with canvas walls where you could hear the traffic on Hwy 1, the neighbors/staff going into the bathroom, the neighbors/staff unloading their cars in the middle of the night... then this place is for you. It felt like we were in a tent in a trailer park since there are so many full-time residents. On the map, it looked like our Adventure tent was at the end of the road, with privacy, but actually, we were right up against the staff "housing/tents". We hardly slept at all and spent $200 for one night.

This review is for the restaurant. It was recommended to us from Big Sur Lodge and was open the latest. The drinks were fantastic. I had a margarita with fresh squeezed ginger and my boyfriend had the brown butter old-fashioned. We shared wings and pizza. The bill came out to about $100 which seem to be a running theme here in Big Sur. It is understandable because it is far from a lot of things but it was worth it. I hope that the next time we come up here we will be able to stay at this location as they are open later than most places and have a bar area. The waitress was very friendly checked up on us a lot.

My Daughter and her Husband had their wedding in October 2018 in Big Sur, and the group all stayed in cabins at the Fernwood Resort. All in all, we had a wonderful and beautiful time in celebration. None of us had been there, and my Daughter had some how found this location and resort. I, myself, had a lot of reservations about having a wedding in the forest. My girlfriend and I are tent campers and love camping, but I must say their cabins are extremely comfortable and nice. The grounds are very well kept and you are hidden away. It is quaint and a lovely place to spend with family. The wedding, by the way, turned out extremely beautiful in nature!

This is my favorite campground in Big Sur. The sites fill up very quickly so reserve in advance. It's probably the most expensive campground I've ever stayed at but it's pretty small and you can't beat the beautiful location. There are hot showers, bathrooms and pay washing machines/dryers. You can also rent a cabin or hotel room but I've never done that. The restaurant has the BEST pizza, vegetarian with goat cheese, and the staff are always so friendly and helpful. I recommend the Kombucha cider it's sooo delicious, not super sweet and 7% alcohol :)

Motel with hot tub, highly recommended. Motels do not have fridges, no tv, no microwave and barely WiFi (got to be super close to the tavern for WiFi) Showers are small but get the job done. Rooms are super adorable but definitely don't have more than 2 (adult size) per room. Fire place romantic but the view is amazing. Fresh air and large trees are worth every penny.

When looking for a place to stay in Big Sur, we kind of discovered Fernwood Resort by default. I perused some online lists of places to stay and after looking at a handful, Fernwood was the only one that had an opening, so that was that. Word to the wise, even trying to book three months in advance really wasn't soon enough for the handful of places that offer accommodations in Big Sur, so do plan ahead. However, we couldn't have been happier with our stay at the Fernwood resort. We stayed at the motel, with a room close to the general store. Despite the proximity to the constant flow of business in and out of the tavern and the general store, noise was never a problem. The hotel rooms are a bit spartan as you should expect. No TV, no cell phone service, no wi-fi (the rooms don't have wi-fi, but you can get it while at the tavern), no problem. Being at the Fernwood in the middle of Big Sur leaves you completely disconnected from the outside world, free to explore and relax as you see fit. The old motel looked recently redone as the hardwood floors were new and the beds were comfortable. Best thing is that there is so much going on in and around the Fernwood. Between the general store and the great food and drink offered up at the tavern, all the things you might need for your stay are available to you be you in need of camping supplies, souvenirs, or anything else. Just a note, while the general store doesn't open until 8am and the tavern is only open for lunch, the general store does have fresh coffee available. You can follow the stairs down from the tavern's great outdoor seating area (see my separate review for the tavern), to the expansive campsite, in which the pristine Big Sur river flows right through. The cabins are also down by the campsite and I think for our next Big Sur trip, it would be great to get a group to stay at the cabins or even just camp. One thing we found quite helpful was the local information about Big Sur posted on the Fernwood's website. It is much more in depth than any of the travel/guide books you will find (as we quickly found out) and the specific directions to many of the secluded areas are quite helpful. Finally, you get all this at a great price. Our room was $165.00 a night and considering that accommodation options are scarce in Big Sur, this is a great price (and since it is printed on the pamphlets they have available, I assume they do not change), especially for a place that puts you right in the middle of the action, with Andrew Molera, Pfeiffer State Park, Pfeiffer Beach, and the other motels and stores all within a few minutes drive. So this perfect intersection of price, proximity, location, and great accommodations will definitely have us coming back to Fernwood Resort for our next Big Sur trip.

We found this place by chance on a recommendation form a state park ranger. We needed a place that would be able to accommodate at least 4 families in consecutive campsites. Fernwood was such a great stay, we definitely want to come back. There is a swimming hole the kids walked to from our site. WiFi if you walk up to the tavern. Convenient general store in case you forget something or need ice. Be prepared to spend your money. A very Small syrup was $8, but that's expected. Highlights: Clean restrooms Hot showers Washers/Dryers Dishwashing station Large fire pits Ample room for car and tents

What a hidden gem. The motel rooms are small, but have everything you need to unwind. Such a relaxing place.. Restaurant, coffee shop, store, great bar.... Great deck out back to play games or enjoy a snack/drinks... River running through back of property....camping, tent camping, trailers, RVs....or just a picnic

I loved this place. Very cute and is in the middle of nature. The staff was super friendly, the room was clean and their little store had good options of snacks.

This place is truly heaven on earth. Cannot wait until next year's camp. Everything is wonderful and the people/ service are the best of the best! You will not be disappointed!

Good experience We camped along the river. River was clean and refreshing. Clean showers, a store,nice patio off bar and restaurant. A bit pricey in the stores etc but it's Big Sur and like this everywhere near by. A definite, free spirit, hippie vibe at fernwood,Which we liked. Very dog friendly. Our site was very dusty right next to the bridge and road. Most other river sites would not have same dust issue. Cars and work vehicles driving slower would have helped. Our Camping spot was on the small side. No room to put up our pop up that attaches to our little tear drop trailer Tent in site next to us was less than five feet from our tiny trailer. Drag Show was entertaining

Legit the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Loved the room, the restaurant and the overall vibes. Everyone was so nice. This place is definitely a hidden gem in Big Sur!

The resort was everything I thought it would be and more. Loved the location. I stayed in an Adventure Tent which has a queen size, two end tables, a small dining table and heater. Bathrooms and showers are in a separate building which were super clean. Enjoyed my stay beyond words. Will return.
