One of the most convenient locations to shop late after work was this Super Market. Prices were high considering others locations nearby, but as a Native New Yorker, we know we have to pay the price of a convenient location. As I finished my usual light grocery on Friday nights around 10:30pm. I decided I wanted some chicken broth to make some hearty homemade soup over the weekend. When I approached the isle, I see that all the broth were mostly organic, and grabbed the newly stocked chicken broth from a price listed $4.99. Clearly it stated natural chicken broth on the price tag. I proceeded to pay on the self check-out registers. When I scanned the item, the item scanned $7.99 price. I then called for assistance, and the lady that came to assist me, looked at the item, and said…”Oh this is organic, therefore is 7.99.”
I let her know that all the Organic Chicken Broth were under the price $4.99 on the label posted on the shelf. She them proceeded to call a Middle age Latino Manager, that clearly answer her in front of me, “they not $4.99, they are $7.99.” I said to her, to walk with me to the isle where they were newly stocked, and she was able to see that they did stocked them on the $4.99 listed label. We walked back to the register's and she let him know they were on the wrong shelf. He then told her, without addressing me or not even apologizing for the inconvenience, and explained to her very unprofessional the following story:
“That must be the new guy that stocked them on the wrong shelf, you (referring to me) should’ve read the label.” Which I thought that was really unprofessional and not a great costumer service demeanor towards a long time member of the Supermarket.
I looked at him, and told him the label clearly said Natural Chicken Broth for $4.99, and that it wasn’t my fault they were priced wrong. Instead of accommodating the customer for a mistake they clearly made, he simply said $7.99 is the price, period.
I worked in customer service, and I felt that my loyalty and membership to this supermarket for the last 3 years was not important to this Supermarket. I was going to spend my usual $50-100 dollars weekly worth on groceries that clearly they didn’t really care to loose. I walked away very disappointed and dissatisfied with the Manager’s reaction, and I did told him that I can go and spend my money to another supermarket.
For the high price we currently paying for basic groceries in NYC, it’s not worth to spend your money where you’ll get treated so poorly and they rather loose a valuable and loyal customer, over a $2.00 dollars price adjustment.
Hope you make a choice where they will value your business.
