I appreciate the homey, camp-like touch Rose gives to his straight up middle-eastern snack food place. The back area is a down scale gravel parking lot done up with benches and canvas tenting, and it works to creat that feel. The servers are all enthusiastic and helpful. A fairly simple menu that is ordered and paid via an online portal; convenient and dissociating at once because you order and pay at the same time, like a seated caf, but get less personal service. Premium prices for a cafeteria feel and for what you get. One-shot cocktails, for a starter, are $14!! Add another shot for $4. What, other than alcohol, are we paying for? Some muddled cucumber or raspberries. Similarly, a hummus platter with a few florets of broccoli should not be $23. That being said, the plates are more elaborate, with some delicious flavors, like their skhag (red pepper purée) and apricot purée. The fried eggplant was crispy and delish. I enjoyed my meal, though it was not served quite hot enough. Maybe this place was made for a sunny summer afternoon, rather than a cooler night. Overall, though, I feel Fet Zun is too DIY for its downtown pricing. The food is fine, but it needs to elevate itself much higher to have me back again.
