We went to Fezziwig's Food and Fountain as a part of a scavenger hunt it was affiliated with two of its other sisters location. Our weekend stay was very short due to a wedding we went to that Saturday afternoon. By the time we were leaving the area, we came across the scavenger hunt on was on a mission to carry through before leaving. Fezziwig's Food and Fountain was a cutesy, decorative setting with a menu selection of food varieties and desserts to reel in customers. We stayed for drinks, macarons, and wanted to buy a Fezziwig's mug for the ride home. The dessert and drinks were okay and average. Service was friendly and the waitress was attentive before we left for the next place to go.

We got on a Friday as soon as they opened. We were just walking by. Small place that serves sandwiches, coffee, teas, and milkshakes. The food hit the spot.

I’m obsessed with this place! I live hours away from Portsmouth and whenever I’ve had a chance to visit I’m always instantly like “so when can we go to Fezziwig’s? Now? How about now?” The atmosphere is just so precious and magical, and the food/beverages put a smile on your face, and I adore this place with my whole heart.

Came in expecting a weirder vibe but was very happy with the affogato! Smaller space than imagined. Server memorized our order VS entering it into a touchscreen as we talked which was oddly satisfying. Bathroom was about 60F which was also nice on a hot summer day. Wife commented that it was the best Chai Latte she's ever had (it's her go-to). Would visit again when I'm in town!

Greatly enjoyed stopping in. Such a fun vibe with the seasonal decor. Great drinks and light snacks to pick from.

Beautiful atmosphere however service is the worst I’ve ever experienced in Portsmouth. Not sure if the woman at the front was having a bad day but she made a lot of condescending comments. When we arrived we have never been so we were taking in all the beautiful things on display. The woman never greeted us and simply asked if we were doing takeout or needed a table. My husband stated it was our first time here and we weere still looking. She doesn’t respond but aggressively flips over a menu in front of him. Despite this we stayed (our mistake) while my oldest picked what she wanted my 4 year old grabbed a seat with my husband while we ordered. Keep in mind it’s not busy- there was only one other party seated. It’s a Thursday afternoon so fairly dead. I place my order and she scoffs “so you’re staying then” I said yes please we’ll eat here. She then responds “I see you’re all spread out you need to stay together”. My oldest was standing next to me and youngest again with my husband. I responded “oh we’re still going to sit together my daughter is just here to order with me” she laughs *condescendingly * “Four people at a two top- okay” and rolls here eyes. No offense but what is your deal lol I don’t respond because at this point it seems like she’s just looking for someone to argue with. I hate leaving low star reviews especially for small businesses but this is NOT how you run a business. And then for her to ask for a tip on top of that is obscene. Won’t be coming back which is a shame, it’s truly gorgeous here. Hopefully someone can speak to her about how she treats and speaks to customers.

A beautiful little cafe. Great food and service. *Update* Just updating my review with more pics. Another great experience here. Delicious food and lattes. Beautiful atmosphere. Super friendly staff.

Google
Unique brasserie style place with all day brunch, crepes and sandwiches. Extensive drink menu with hot coffees, teas or transitioning into ice cream or soda jerk style offerings or going to an adult alcohol menu with wines and beer. Fun ambiance with French bistro music setting the mood. Finally we received attentive service from the entire staff and absolutely enjoyed our dining experience.

Yelp
This is a charming place with a nice menu. On this occasion, we were very disappointed. We ordered one sandwich to split and two cups of clam chowder. The sandwich was chicken with stuffing and cranberry mayo on sourdough, grilled. It took a very long time for the food to come out. The sandwich was not piping hot. The chowder was no more than lukewarm. We sent the chowder back. How long does it take to heat soup in a microwave? Not very long. We were done with our sandwich before the soup came back. It was hot. I did not like the chowder because it was way too thick for me, and only ate half. The situation might not have been so bad if the wait staff had been a bit more personable, and showed interest to hear about and resolve our issues. Overall, not sure we want to go there again.

Yelp
Adorable place that is beautifully decorated and definitely crafted with love. We came for high tea (reservation only) and were a bit disappointed since we are used to the more classy high tea. There is no high tea menu which made it hard because we had to pick our choice of pastry and dessert. It came with finger sandwiches (which we happened to not like) one was chicken salad and the other was turkey and tomato. Our pastry of choice was a croissant. It was a delicious croissant but unfortunately not warmed up. Macaroons were just... kinda bad... we didn't get to choose our flavors but we got piña colada and lavender something. They were a weird texture. The chocolate raspberry cakes were very good though! The tea was pretty. But the place was crowded. Overall- adorable place with a bunch of options. My recommendation: don't go for high tea.

Yelp
This was a super cute place and the milkshake I got here was delicious. The server was so friendly that I thought I was back in California again!

Yelp
As one would imagine, anywhere that has the bravery to name their restaurant "Fezzigwig's" better step up and deliver on such a name. No other name brings you to the feel and delight of a feast as one had by the characters in A Christmas Carole. Let me tell you, we walked away and all we could say was... Amazing! This place is just a perfect lil gem near downtown Portsmouth, NH. We walked in and we were immediately greeted and seated. They took our order promptly and then we had time to absorb the juju. Sparking lights decorate the entire space from the ceiling with walls of shelves of delightful little treats and knick-knacks one could buy... from tea to tea cups! The food was out of this world! I had the Classic Breakfast and my partner had the Mayflower Sandwich - both were absolutely delicious! I have nothing but praise for the chef. Cost - on point. Food - above par! Ambiance - delightful! Will we be back? YUP! Actually headed back to Portsmouth next week and have both brought up our excitement to eat at Fezziwig's again! See you soon!

Yelp
Absolutely charming place, excellent food (chicken salad sandwich, peach and cream milkshake), perfect service and nice array of speciality gifts. You can't miss!

Yelp
Wonderful place for tea. Only wish we had come for lunch too! Service was so friendly. Great cup of English breakfast tea. Definitely recommend

Yelp
The service was great! The ladies were so kind. Loved the ambiance, very cute decorations. I can't speak for food or snacks. I had the mint soft serve and it was unfortunately terrible. It was green but had no mint flavor.. I asked for hot fudge and the fudge was ice cold. I don't know if we'd try again to be honest!

Yelp
Loved this place. Menu is small but tasty. Try the unique sodas and ask about their sister stores. Very fun afternoon.

Yelp
Took our niece for her 6th birthday. The atmosphere was cute and sweet and it made her feel special. The desserts were tasty. The food itself was fine (we got some of the sandwiches); service was slow though most likely due to understaffed - our server was working hard to try to help everyone, I think they were just overwhelmed as it was packed on. Busy summer day.

Kim G.

Yelp
While the staff was polite and the restaurant comfortable, the food was less than expected. I ordered a simple item - grilled cheese sandwich. The cheese was barely melted. The bread was toasted but not with butter (as every other grilled cheese I have had has been). The cheese did not even make it to the edge of the bread, but was just a small patch in the middle. The flavor was . . . let's just say there was no flavor. It was completely bland. There were no other parts. Just bread and cheese and blandness. It did come with chips. Regular ol' potato chips. I'm a guy that doesn't cook and even I could have done better.

Yelp
We came as a group of three for the "high tea" experience and were very satisfied. The interior is cozy and has cute decor. Our tea was served in simple white teapots with matching cups. The tea time package included 2 petit fours, 2 macarons, 1 scone, and 4 mini sandwich squares per person. The scones and sandwiches were absolutely delicious but the macaron flavors were a little overwhelming, especially if you're sensitive to smell. For $32/person, I would've expected a little more food, so I wouldn't recommend coming here on an empty stomach unless you want to order an additional entree. Overall, this was a very cute experience.

Yelp
Tim his is what it is...a tea shop and sandwich shop with lots of personality. I had the ham and gruyere sandwich with green apple and vif et chaud spread on sourdough brushed with butter and pressed, chips, and black cherry soda. The perfect food and environment on a rainy afternoon. The lavender scone with clotted cream and apricot jam was the cherry on top...so yo speak!

Yelp
We were chilled during a cold autumn's visit to picturesque Portsmouth and seeking a spot to warm up and fill up. The fountain shop looked charming as we passed by so we quickly decided on this quaint shop. I thought we made the right decision when I saw the cream-topped milkshakes being served to a large table by the door. We settled into a comfy banquette where we ordered a variety of drinks: a calming tea, a warming hot chocolate, a unicorn milkshake (cotton candy), an overflowing float, and an old-fashioned egg cream. Additionally, the fountain shop offered sundaes, ice creams, a full selection of coffees and teas, and desserts. I can't speak for the other drinks but enjoyed the sweet hot chocolate that I ordered. For the holidays, the shop was decked in sweeping green garlands with bright lights and colorful ornaments. While the shop is always decorated, the server explained to a nearby table that the Christmas season was most important since the restaurant was named after Mr. Fezziwigs, the jovial and generous character in Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Service was friendly, although a bit slow, since there were only a few servers working that day.

Yelp
- I loved the showtune soundtrack - the mead and apple shake was delicious - wife needed to teabags in her London fog - very brightly lit and sun environment - sunny service - pastries and cakes look grand

Yelp
Great Milan or Parisian style cafe with surprisingly finally good food. Basics with some flare. Something for everyone. Small place, so time out in the mid-afternoon for best seating.
google avatar

Yelp
The staff members were very knowledgeable and pleasant! I got the London Fog milkshake and my only slight disappointment is the "earl grey cake" is more of a cookie. However, the drink was delicious and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

Wendy H.

Yelp
Delicious! I love a good fountain drink and the root beer float was great! The ambiance was cute, I will be back!

Yelp
We hosted a baby shower tea party at Fezziwig's for 15 people and it was AMAZING!! The tea room is very cozy, and wecloming! They had it decorated for the holidays and it is gorgeous. The tea, finger sandwiches, and pasteries were SO good! And Juniper and her team were lovely. Our group couldn't stop talking about what a fabulous experience they had. Thank you Fezziwig's we will be putting your place on our tour calendar!!!!

Yelp
I don't want to bring the rating down of this excellent option in Portsmouth - not fair to the owner. However the female (redhead- maybe J u I p e r) that worked Fri 7/30/21 (2pm-ish) is not helping your business. We arrived to find every table outside dirty with dishes piled up. My partner figured they were busy and decided to help and cleared two tables. The waitress said leave it (sarcastically) and my partner brought the dishes in for her. Not knowing I was sitting there the waitress said to a table of customers "leave my Fu&king stuff alone and complained about the assistance. So rude when people try to help. We know staff is short but the kid may want to find another line of work....:: we went somewhere else. (Sorry owner - you deserve better)

Yelp
My boyfriend and I walked by here after grabbing lunch at another place, and it was SO whimsical and cute, I wanted to immediately go in there. We held off until dinner the next day, and stopped in on a Saturday night. It wasn't too crowded, but later on during the night, they got a lot busier and that's when they started to struggle. We ordered the special of the day, a lobster roll jr, a turkey club sandwich, and another special of the day, lobster fritters. The cashier didn't ask if I wanted the side salad or chips & a pickle which the menu had stated. That's my fault, I should have told him I wanted a salad just to clarify, but he didn't ask either. He was nice about it when he brought it out and I asked if I could have the salad instead of the chips. We got our sandwiches but the lobster fritters never came out. I finally had to go up to the counter to ask about it. That's when he went to the back and brought it out to give to me. The turkey sandwich was okay, pretty average. My boyfriend liked the lobster roll. But the fritters were a bit of a disappointment. It wasn't a good as either of us thought it would be. And for $12 bucks, they weren't worth it. I decided to order a sundae for us to share. I decided on the Penny Dreadful with vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate. The sundae didn't take too long to come out, especially since they had a huge crowd of people just come in. The sundae was a little sloppily made. The whipped cream was falling off the side and onto the plate it came with. The menu stated that it came with crushed oreos, but ours came with chocolate sprinkles instead. I don't know if they just made a mistake or they ran out of oreos, but it would have been nice to be told ahead of time. The sundae itself was okay. I was hoping for the ice cream to be out of this world, but it was pretty average. The employees were nice and friendly. But someone had mentioned that the attention to detail was key here, and that's what was lacking for us.

Yelp
Delicious milkshakes with a side of nostalgia. We enjoyed ours on their streetside patio while watching pedestrians.

Yelp
Adorable place to go for an afternoon tea session. You get a pot of tea of your choosing & ado get to choose which panini you would like served with petit fours & scones with al the fixings. Also ordered the hot chocolate which was delicious! We got to sit in a cute little private table hidden behind curtains. Friendly service.

Yelp
Stopped by for some milkshakes. Fast service and delicious! I had a chocolate shake and it was the perfect mid-day treat!

Yelp
I can't say enough about Fezziwigs! What an awesome place! To give you the full story, my mom and I were visiting the Strawberry Banke museum a block away, and the nice girl at the gift shop overheard us talking about lunch and recommended Fezziwigs. The name was so weird that I had to look it up just to make sure I heard her correctly. We ventured over and as soon as we walked in, I got a big smile on my face. What a charming place! It's eclectic almost fairy tale vibe was colorful, clean, and provided so much to look at. It was a cold day so grilled cheese and tomato soup was hitting the spot. And it was delicious! I gobbled every bite. There were a ton of other things on the menu I could easily see myself ordering. Because it was a cold day, I wasn't in the mood for ice cream, but I kept seeing these extravagant looking shakes and sundae's passing me by. Um...hello! That guarantees a return visit when it's a little warmer. I also need to top this off by saying the staff is absolutely fantastic. Extremely pleasant. I mean, to the point that you actually want to work there and join in the fun. Honestly I can't wait to go back and I probably won't wait too much longer to venture up there.

Yelp
Such a treat--great spot and a menu that feels like (insert quaint European city here!) the paninis are unique and exquisitely delicious!

Madison G.

Yelp
We ordered two afternoon teas around $30 each. The bill was $60+ and we were still hungry after. We received 5 small pastries despite paying for two separate teas. The kitchen was out of scones which was not originally discounted from the check. The steeped teas took over 20 minutes to come out with two other parties receiving their drinks and food first even though they arrived a bit after we were sat. We waited around 45 minutes for our food, none of which needed to be cooked. I enjoy coming here for milkshakes during the summer but would not get anything else.
google avatar

Linda A.

Yelp
I love places that have a unique atmosphere so when we drove by and saw this ivy covered little place, we had to try it. The Unique bakes good and the lobster roll was perfection. The corn beef hash and breakfast potatoes were just ok. Coffee very good.

Pamela M.

Yelp
The place is tiny and not well run. Website is deceiving. Told in am didn't need reservation. Got there and apparently did. They did seat us but all they were serving was tea and crumpets. Help was frazzled and having a hard time handling the small place only maybe 6-8 tables packed together. We left and never ate. Thought $32.00 for tea and crumpets was ridiculous.
google avatar

Cat W.

Yelp
So I've had some great experiences here and some less great ones but over all I love this place. It's got this very magical feeling to it. The soup is always great.

Yelp
An adorable addition to the Pickwick's collection of shops. Just a couple doors down from Pickwick's on State Street, this place is serving ice cream sundaes, fountain sodas, floats, tea and milkshakes. They also have a bunch of items to buy from candy to tea and cook books. I heard food will be added to menu dec20. I had Minerva milk shake, it was amazing and super thick. Required a spoon. I saw the sundaes and coffee...they're giant and pretty!
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
The environment was so cute and fun! Interesting menu items and a nice variety. Service-wise, the day we were there with a group that included 3 kids, we were not offered children's menus even though we had discussed kid-friendly menu choices with the sever. Also, two different special orders (e.g. no mustard on a sandwich and sausage on only half of a pizza) were ignored and children were served items they had not wanted and the server did not offer to have the items re-made. We ended up over paying for children's meals that were not even eaten due to the menus not being offered and the special order being ignored. Adults would/did love this place and our food- but it's hard to enjoy when children's needs and wants are overlooked.

Camden S.

Yelp
Cool concept and polite servers, the coffee was okay, but tiny menu, small potions, and low quality food.

Chris C.

Yelp
What a charming, delightful spot! I was looking for a quiet place to grab something to eat and read my book and I'm so glad I found this one. Sitting outside on a cool autumn day with some spiced cider and a monte cristo -- I couldn't imagine a more pleasant afternoon. Will definitely be going back!

Ken H.

Yelp
Cramped and crowded. Waitstaff seemed to have an attitude like they didn't want to be there.

Yelp
This place was the most magical part of my vacation. We had no idea what we were walking in to, I just saw a sign for grilled cheese and tomato soup which sounded amazing on a chilly day. We walked into an adorable, cozy, friendly, and upbeat holiday wonderland of delicious food. I've been looking for anything Christmas on this trip, even though it's not thanksgiving yet, and this was the place! Decorated with garlands and lights, flickering candles on the tables, and all of my favorite Christmas songs. We ate chicken and waffles, grilled cheese and tomato soup, and mac & cheese. It was this pregnant gals dream. Everything was amazing. We didn't even have enough room to try their shakes or desserts but they looked incredible. Super friendly service too. I can't wait to go back!

Tony G.

Yelp
Food was okay, I got the cuban. Nothing special and was lacking flavor. I'd really ever only come back for drinks or treats.
google avatar

Robyn H.

Yelp
Have only been here twice so I can't review a lot of the food. But I can tell you this place is something different and definitely worth checking out. The word used by many of the other reviewers, "whimsical", perfectly describes the atmosphere with all the sparkling chandeliers and candles. Made a perfect afternoon bringing my 6 year old niece for their tea service- tea, warm fresh baked blueberry scones, cream, and delicious jam. We both loved the jam made with blueberries. Both times we came here, there was only one other customer. I don't understand it- the service is friendly, there is a full menu, ice cream, plus a counter with all kinds of delicious looking baked goods, candies.. will definitely be back!

Yelp
Overall impression: Small, cute café with great milkshakes, but skip the food. I went to Fezziwig's with a group of seven for lunch on a Sunday. The place is small, and with just a few other tables it quickly filled up. Unfortunately, it appeared there was only one server working. She was clearly overwhelmed, and the service suffered as a result. To say we were unimpressed with the food is an understatement. Several of my friends ordered one of the soup specials, which was a tomato vegetable. The soups came out a variety of temperatures from cold to lukewarm to hot. They must have come from different batches, because two of my friends sent their soups back because they tasted off - as if some of the vegetables had gone bad. Those that ate their soups said it was okay but not great, and just generally tasted like it had come straight out of a can. The garden salad with chicken looked visually appealing, but the chicken was dry and difficult to chew. I wish I had a picture of my friend's grilled cheese - as it was probably one of the saddest grilled cheeses I've ever seen. I think I made out the best with the clam chowder. Similar to the other soups, it wasn't as hot as I would have liked, but it had a good flavor. The milkshakes got rave reviews from my friends who ordered the Dabney. When we paid the bill, we didn't realize at first that the soups that had been sent back weren't taken off the bill. Our waitress brought over a tablet and waited, so there wasn't adequate time to review the bill. By the time we realized the discrepancy we had already paid, and our waitress seemed so stressed we just decided to let it go.

Yelp
Not so surprised by how adorable this place was on the inside (have you been to their other affiliated stores?!) but SO pleased with the menu selection, food, kind service, coffee! What a surprise! As advertised, but the food, from the sandwich rolls, to the crispy chips, even way in which the final bill was presented! You can really tell that they've put thought into every detail... and I simply had a ham and cheese sandwich! I would go back in an instant!

Yelp
Great little eclectic cafe. Haven't tried any of the food, but the shakes and cake ball were amazing. My son was so excited, he and his sister killed the shake before us adults could sample some. The size of the shakes are substantial and easily shared between two people. Great date night spot when walking around Portsmouth.

Yelp
I'm giving this place one star for poor customer service. A disabled friend of mine visited this establishment over the weekend only to be made fun of by an employee when the employee saw my friend struggling to hold an iced coffee that he bought from this establishment. Perhaps management should teach employees a lesson in how to help customers that are struggling and ask if they need help or are okay - you know, basic human empathy - rather than make fun of them. If this is the kind of people being hired, I will never give a dime to support this business. Shame on you. To the employee that did this - shame on you. I hope you never find yourself in a position where you have a medical condition that requires you needing help from those around you.

Yelp
Love this place. Small quaint & good food options. Breakfast & coffee was REALLY good. One of my new favorite spots. Service was excellent. I just hope it doesn't get too popular with visitors, so that it doesn't get crowded.

Yelp
Charming, whimsical cafe. The food is superb, they serve breakfast-dinner every day. Perfect place to meet a friend, casual date or sip a hot cocoa with your family. Their Eggs Benedict is delicious (see attached picture) and their boeuf bourgiunon melts in your mouth. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We where walking around looking for a new place to try and came across this little gem. Saw a sign that said breakfast all day and my husband was sold. So glad we went in food was amazing and the staff was great The chef even brought our food out to us. We will be back

Excellent food, very friendly service, great location, interesting decor, easy street-level parking. What more could you ask?

Yelp
A quick bite for breakfast after boating since 6 Am. Right near Prescott Park, short walk. Felt very European, castle like feeling. Loved the decoration and the atmosphere. Awesome choices of Teas, which are grinded from leaf from as well as voriety of coffees and lattes. Breakfast was great. I will return for a noon snack next time. Outdoor sitting is also available and cute.

Yelp
A fun place for lunch or snack or just a great sundae! The crepes were delicious - one sweet and one savory, and the Cobb salad was one of the best ever! Others had sandwiches which were delicious and different. It is a 'tea room' atmosphere but comfortable for everyone. Going down shortly for sundaes with my grandkids!
