Where to Stay in Paris (Updated 2025)

"I found this large hostel to feel like a hotel conference center—often hosting school groups—so it’s not a party hostel; it’s located in a quiet neighborhood, includes breakfast, and all rooms are en-suite (dorms available only to those 18–30)." - Matthew Kepnes

When I first walked in, I thought, “Okay, kinda clean, maybe this won’t be too bad.” Oh how wrong I was. Rooms: The room was so tiny I felt like I was living in a shoebox. If I breathed too hard, I’d hit the wall. Food (if you can even call it that): Dinner was either RAW or soaked in enough grease to power a car. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to eat it or call a health inspector. Honestly felt like I was risking food poisoning just by looking at it. Creepy Kids and Security Chaos: There were these super dodgy kids from another school being weird and creepy. Security started patrolling, which I thought meant safety but nope. At 11 PM they BANGED on my door, woke me up, and asked if I was one of the dodgy kids and if I was going to sneak out tonight.... Maybe ask a TEACHER instead of scaring ME half to death? Then they BANNED food in the rooms after being fine with it for the first few days. Yeah sure, let me go eat some salmonella surprise downstairs. "Social Hour": During social hour (before 9 PM btw), a guard stormed in and yelled at us to be quiet like we were disrupting the Queen’s nap. Then later when we just laughed a bit, he came back and literally jump-scared two girls like he was auditioning for a horror movie. Round 2: The Horror Room: After staying somewhere else for a bit (THANK GOD), I came back and got a “new” room… with paint peeling off the windows, a HOLE in the bathroom door (privacy who??), and beds that were rusty and squeaked if you even blinked near them. Final Thoughts: This hotel started clean and ended like a survival challenge. Between the nightmare food, security acting like undercover FBI agents, creepy jump scares, and prison-cell-level rooms, I wouldn’t stay here again even if they paid me. 0/10. Would rather sleep dumpster

This is a great hotel. The staff at the desk are super friendly and helpful. The rooms are functional but sparse. For example there are no coffee making facilities. But once you get over that it is a great place to stay

• At the beginning, we had to sit through a 15-minute briefing about the hotel, including banalities like how you have to hold the key card to the door for it to open, and that the elevator must not be used in case of fire... • Food: The buffet was extremely limited, and the dinner on the first day was only lukewarm. Later, I noticed microwaves in the dining area — I assume these were meant for reheating food. • Food hygiene: The trays were usually dirty, and you could sometimes find leftovers from the previous guest in bowls or on trays. The cutlery was often sticky and generally not very clean. Conclusion: Not recommended.

Went here for a school trip. Really enjoyed it here! The dinners were great, so were the breakfasts though I would've liked a bit more variety. Rooms were clean and comfy with ample charging ports and room space. The bathroom was also very clean and so were the rooms. The cat was also very friendly :) Would recommend.

I stayed in a private room.....The rooms are spacious....But the floor was not good....It was sticking.....There was no amenities provided.....You need to request it everytime at the Front office....Very rude front office staffs....They profile customers and behave accordingly.... The complimentary breakfast is manageable....But same menu everyday....You will get bored if staying for many days.....The lobby area is good....Nice place to relax with a cup of coffee

The hotel is very close to the center of Paris and the metro. The breakfast isn't great, but it has everything you need. The hotel is a bit noisy due to student groups, but I was in building C, so I had no trouble sleeping. The staff is very friendly, just like Santiago. I'll definitely come back with my family.

I came with a school group and stayed for just over a month, and several issues arose. First, I had about $500 USD on a meal card that did not seem to work. The first time my meal card stopped working, a cafeteria employee took it and I was able to get it back from reception the next day. The next time it stopped working, I brought it to reception myself, expecting they could replace it or reactivate it at that time. The employee took it and told me he had to wait to fix it, but it would be done by dinner time that day. When I went back, the employee was gone, and long story short, I checked twice a day for four days an no one had my card or would replace it for me. Then, when I saw the original employee I gave my card to, he gave me back my card without it having been fixed or looked at. Cafeteria employees took my card several more times during my stay, and every time they did, it took at least one full day to get it back. This resulted in me having about €70 left on the card when I left, which was money wasted. Another issue was that housekeeping on the fourth floor did not clean my room as frequently as they said they would. Towels were supposed to be changed every 3 days, and sheets every 6. Sheets were only replaced two times in our 32 day stay, and both were upon request. Towels were only changed 5 times during the stay as well. When housekeeping did come, they put some of our belongings that were not garbage into the trash bins, and they left dirty gloves on the desks and bathroom counter. While I think the FIAP is good in some ways, staying for an extended period of time and having to rely on the resources there was incredibly frustrating. If the employees at reception communicated with eachother more, the meal card issue could have been avoided. And I really don’t see why the housekeeping was so inconsistent. One highlight of my stay was the bar staff. Baptiste was a joy, as well as the others.

You should avoid FIAP. The food is raw and causes stomach aches. The shower is cold, the windows are drafty, and there is mold everywhere. The portions are far too small – you literally go hungry with these meals. The bed is hard as stone. The location isn’t ideal, but with the metro it’s not too bad. Avoid at all costs if you care about your health.

Yelp
Stayed here for a school trip from the US from 1/6-1/14. Not sure about price as it was paid through a travel agency. I realize this is a hostel and not a hotel but the lack of professionalism or courtesy towards international travelers was astounding at times. Pros: Rooms were clean & warm, hostel was generally quiet, saw a stray cat, shower had great water pressure & water got very hot, windows were openable (not always seen in hotels in the US), staff spoke English, beds were comfortable, bathroom was spacious, hair dryer in bathroom, one of our group was stuck in her room with sciatica and staff brought her food to her room despite the no food in rooms rule Cons: No hand soap in bathroom/room, no deadbolt lock on door, rude staff in the dining area (Cocagne), motion sensor light on mirror in room that would randomly click on and off while I was nowhere near it, no food allowed in rooms, no power outlets in bathroom for styling tools, flickering overhead lights, thin walls (can hear conversations from rooms on either side), food in Cocagne was subpar, wifi connection was spotty at best, loud construction before 9am, pillows were flat and only 1 per bed, closed dinner early on Saturday night (supposed to run 6:30-8:30pm, was closed at 7:30) Staff at the in-hostel restaurant (Cocagne) berated our group for not speaking French and for not understanding immediately how the food service worked. Not to mention one of the meals was just called "meat" and it was disgusting. Our whole group actively avoided eating here.

Yelp
Stayed at FIAP on 2 separate occasion as I was transiting through Paris. I decided to stay with FIAP JEAN MONNET based on the following: - Value (Estimate Cost per Night: $35 USD/person) - Nearby Metro Station: St. Jacques (Green Line 6); or Denfert-Rochereau (Green Line 6, Purple Line 4 or RER-B) Both within 5-10 minutes walk. - Close Proximity to Paris Attractions (About 15 minutes metro ride to most attractions) Yes, I could've stayed closer to the Eiffel Tower or other attractions during my short visit to Paris, but that would also mean forking out 2-3 times more money for a place to crash at night. I did my research prior to booking and found that FIAP is the best choice for me, whether it is time to get to the attractions and the convenience of getting to the hostel minutes from the RER-B (Airport Train). Staff was really nice, and the front desk spoke English. There were booking issues during both my visit but the check-in desk was able to resolve my problems without too much issue. ** First Booking Issue: The first time was upgrading from Private 4-Bedroom to 5 Beds. We emailed the hostel prior to arrival and they said they were able to accommodate the change. However, there was no records of the request upon arrival. It was a good thing we printed the email and showed it to them. They end up upgrading our party to a 6-Bed Dormitory without charging us anything extra. ** Second Booking Issue: I booked for a Triple Room and they ran out of rooms. My reservation disappeared when I tried to check in and they ran out of triple room. Again, I am thankful that I printed my booking reservation. They end up giving me two double rooms without charging me anything additional. COMMENTS ON FIAP JEAN MONNET - Clean and New - Dormitory Feel - Nice Hot Shower - Free WIFI - Towels & Linens included - Dorm Rooms are only for those 30 years old and under. *** Book private rooms if you are over 30 years old. Like other Yelpers have mentioned, they tend to crack up the heat at FIAP, I learn my lesson the first night when I woke up in the middle of the night drenched in my own sweat. I would highly recommend opening the windows if you like it cold or like to breath fresh air at night. Only other issue I had was not getting fresh towels during my second stay. It was gross that housekeeping decided to put my dirty towel from the floor back on the hinge. Good thing I brought my own towel... Overall, had a pleasant experience and would highly recommend this hostel to any budget traveler visiting Paris.

Yelp
I went here on a school trip and and was very displeased with the service. I kept 100 Euros in my suitcase (which was in my room), went out for the day, and came back to find that someone from room service STOLE IT. The staff wasn't any help and said their cleaners would never do such a thing. After waiting two months to hear back if I could be reimbursed, they finally sent me an email, stating that they weren't liable because, 1) I could have put it in a safe, and 2) The girls sharing my room could have taken it (which was not possible because I was with them all day). Also, the food was not very good. I came to France excited to taste some authentic food and it was not what I was expecting. They also didn't let us eat our packed breakfasts in our rooms. Not to mention, they didn't make our beds or give us bath towels (when we asked for some, we got hand towels instead). They only cleaned our garbage. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
I really don't like writing these kinds of reviews, but when a place is like this I feel like I should warn other fellow yelpers. This place has a steep learning curve. After renting a room for 2 nights I quickly regret it. Summary: 1. You can not bring alcohol to your room in fact there is a security guard to go through your luggage. 2. You can not leave your room key in the room or else you have to re-check in at the front desk. 3. No wi-fi, no tv in the room. 4. No a/c in the room. 5. Windows in the bedroom can be only opened about a quarter inch so prepared for a sauna. I was in France for vacation with my wife and when we travel we love stay in a wide variety of places especially hostels so we can chill and socialize with people from various parts of the world. We decided to choose FIAP due to the fact they have a bar and ac (we went during summer). We quickly realized it was a big mistake bc the things above were never mentioned on their site. The worse part is that I already pre-paid for 2 nights. "caveat emptor"

Yelp
The Fiap Jean monnet is the most atrocious place I have ever stayed in my entire life. To begin with we had a severe mold problem in our room. When we went to the front desk to report it instead of being accommodating they asked us"what's mold" and after searching it up looked us dead in the eye and said "no". Located next to a prison and mental asylum you will find the location to be perfect for a visit to paris. In addition the bathrooms flooded our entire room when we tried to shower and the lights in the bathroom barley work. The place absolutely reeks of must and the staff is so rude. P.S this morning I woke up with ants crawling on my snacks and in my bed. Stay at the Fiap if you want to have a horrible time.

Yelp
Exactly what you'd expect from a hostel - no more, no less. Rooms were clean, had all the basics and provided what you need to stay in Paris on a budget. It's not near any of the sights but is an easy 5 minute walk to two metro stations. There are several places to eat nearby, including a small market/grocer, and continental breakfast is provided. Things you should know: -Towels and sheets provided -Wifi available (although I couldn't get it to work with my smartphone) -Has 110v outlet in bathroom to recharge your US-based Nintendo DS -Other guests can be loud, bring earplugs - that is of course unless you enjoy soap operas and consider couples with accents different than yours arguing as quality entertainment when there is no radio/TV in the room. "We spent all this money on a holiday, I'm not lying about the room!" *DOOR SLAM* ~girl crying~

Yelp
Stayed here with a group program for one night. One of the biggest problems is that the wifi is spotty at best and straight up does not work in some rooms. There was a private bathroom in our room, but the toilet was separated from the shower and sink. Our group had dinner in the restaurant on the second floor, and the food was actually pretty good, especially the mango mousse dessert and cream puffs. I probably wouldn't choose to stay here again.

Yelp
Straight trash. I literally felt like I was living in a jail cell. While Paris was going through a record breaking heatwave, FIAP did a horrible job of making sure the guests were taken care of. The hallways were so muggy because of all the heat and the rooms were even worse. It was cooler in the streets then this garbage can of a hostel. The food we were served was horrible, I wouldn't even feed my dog any of this. The front security treated people with disrespect also telling me to head to my room after 12pm like if I was a child. If you want to have a horrible experience while visiting an amazing city, this is the place to go. The washer was broken for multiple days and the elevators were in the worst shape ever, breaking down every couple of days. The best part of this whole experience was the stray cat that would come into the building. Overall, fuck FIAP!

Ryan Y.

Yelp
This place is terrible. I don't even know where to begin, but two weeks at this place for a class trip was way too much. First, the food was an abomination. The food was way over priced for what they gave. It was at such a low quality. Oftentimes the meat was undercooked, there is a lack of vegetarian options, and the food was so bland. I found mold on the fruit and vegetables a couple of times and there was even chunks in the wine, somehow. It was about €13 for this quality of food. Such a waste. Great distributor, I guess. And that was just the dinner. The breakfast had the same exact options for two weeks. It was incredibly boring. The janitorial services were just as bad. If you leave your "Do Not Disturb" sign up, they don't care. They'll go in anyway. Even if you're in the room because they don't knock. They go through your stuff and do not care. They went through one of my friend's luggage. We found another person's ID card in our room because the cleaning people took it in there. On top of that, the rooms were incredibly hot. Half of the lights and plug-ins did not work and the WiFi was terrible. They don't even allow you to bring outside food and drinks in. You must spend your money on their crappy food and overpriced drinks. This place is really expensive and not worth its value. Don't stay here.

Yelp
be careful! dont stand on the bed, it is not safe! my friends fall down from the bed because it is too thin and cant support the weight! and there is no Wi-Fi in the room!

Yelp
I'm no critic we all have our own experiences but what I will say is that it's over priced for what you get and it's incompletely inappropriate that they had multiple people come in the room early first day was around 10 am second day around 11. Coming in getting the beddings even though I had just got out of the shower and was trying to get dressed. They completely disregarded me and continued on even after I said I was not done I was still using the bed they took the beddings anyway. It was baffling and unacceptable. I would not stay here again.

Yelp
This is probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The maids are inconsiderate. They enter without knocking. They come in everyday before 11am, see we're asleep, and continue to turn on all of the lights, vacuum, open the blinds etc. As if one time isn't bad enough, they proceed to go back and fourth from the room 3 or 4 times a day. We ask them to return the next and they refuse to leave. They walk in while we are showering and changing to get ready for the day. We tried to refuse the maids service and we were told we aren't allowed to refuse their service? We got a call from the reception desk reprimanding us on asking the maids to come tomorrow when we are paying money to stay here and to sleep. Overall the FIAP is the absolute last place I would ever recommend anyone stay when coming to Paris. If I could give it zero stars, I would.

Janet R.

Yelp
Great hostel! I spent a long weekend here and stayed in both a single and a double room. Both were very clean, basic but comfortable. Showers were hot and had great water pressure. Also liked the cafe in the lobby. It's very informal, friendly, quite pleasant. Location is at the Glacier stop on the 6 line. It's only a short walk through a very safe, residential neighborhood to the hostel. Also, near the metro stop is a grocery store where you can buy bottled water for euros less than what you'd pay in central Paris. Stock up! The only criticism I can offer is that the computers in their internet cafe are in desperate need of an update. No big deal, since most bring a laptop and connect to their wifi. I would absolutely stay here again. It's a great place to return to after a long day of walking around the city.

Yelp
+ Internationallity, Wi-Fi, dinner, Position - Lobby, unfriendly reception, breakfast Hostel for youth groups for a quick visit to Paris. For others guests there are certainly better accomodations. The FIAP in Paris is a hostel, preferably for youth-groups from around the world. A monitor next to the reception even shows how many guests from which countries there are. One enters the hotel and immediately lands in a large, brightly decorated lobby, armchairs and sofas invite you to stay. If it wasn't the only place with free Wi-Fi, then no one would be sitting here, it has the flair of a passenger terminal at an airport. The reception desk was staffed by a guy, who didn't speek any English, but who began then to correct my French-errors. Big minus for the reception. The rooms are situated in endless corridors. Three elevators in the main building are in continuous operation to bring all the guests up and down. The rooms themselves are decorated coldly, they lack any personal touch. Everything but the chair that can be moved has been removed or is anchored. One hast to remark that the rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable, view from the window is non-existent, at night the window must be closed, it is too noisy. The double rooms have two single beds, partly double beds, each room has a toilet and shower. In the shower, the wall was completely mildewed, the shower head hard and immovable, the water went out every 20 seconds. The bathroom was not lockable in our room, no towels, no soap. For the meals, there are coupons, which offer you a preset menu, everything else you pay extra. Even after long discussions, they won't give me two croissants, I had to take a roll and a croissant and exchange my roll with someone. Such a rigidity is rarely seen. The dinner (about 11 EUR) with salad, main course and dessert of choice was of good taste. In the evening you can sit and drink a red wine or eat a snack at the hotel bar. The hotel is great starting point for tours of Paris, the reception will help you further. The metro station Glacière on line Étoile-Nation is five minutes to walk, as well as a nice park, where one can relax a bit after a hard day in Paris. Do not arrive by car, parking is non-existent! The hotel also offers several conference rooms. The prices are expensive for French relations, but for Paris at the bottom.

Alex M.

Yelp
Food was meh. Service was okay. Wifi was HORRIBLE and this is supposed to be a place for students to work on assignments while studying abroad. Would not recommend. Rooms temperatures were not well regulated. Only good thing was a cute cat who hangs out in the library.

Yelp
If you are on a budget, this is an acceptable, clean place. I have definitely stayed in crappier hostels where my things have been stolen. I've stayed here on two separate occasions, a month the first time and I stayed a week on another occasion. I lucked out and did not have any issues with noise. I met lots of other young people to explore town with which made this a delightful experience. The food sometimes was edible and sometimes it was so-so. Overall, I'd recommend it if you are backpacking. Close to Glaciere stop which I found very convenient.

Miguel C.

Yelp
NO STARS IF POSSIBLE! this place is HORRIBLE!! personnel work here is rude and even racist if applicable! the moment my group and i got there the manager by the name of FRANK was just rude! this hostel has WAY TO MANY RULES (quoting frank) "don't talk loud inside. don't run. dont let the door slam because you'll wake up everyone. you can't come back in past 10pm if you don't have a key. you will have to pay if you leave a mess. you can't be going from one room to another" REALLY?!?!?? there is absolutely NO AIR CONDITIONING and i mean ITS HELL IN THERE. you will wake up sweating every morning. or after a nap. the restrooms are laid out weird, there is no privacy if you want to shower. the breakfast wristband will allow you one meal. but it costs to get any fruit. and not worth the price. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!

Lily B.

Yelp
Came here when it was very hot, it wasn't well catered to temperature changes as there was no air conditioning and no heater also (which wasn't needed in this visit!). Furthermore, the food was undercooked and bland. They didn't have a large number of vegetarian options and our vegetarian friends had to eat salad and bread. We were also told that we are not allowed to take food to our rooms, which we were going to do because we were half board and needed lunches. When we had ants infest our room they had no sympathy and said they could only do something in the morning, meaning we had to sleep in that room with the bugs. We asked for a fan from reception as our room was incredibly hot and they had run out, showing they are unequipped and unprepared. As well, over half of the plugs in our room did not work and our shower door didn't close. In addition to this, our shower kept changing temperature, turning off and flooding our bathroom.

Carter W.

Yelp
Do you like waking up in the morning covered in sweat due to lack of air conditioning? What about dealing with rude employees who consider Americans to be "inhuman"? Do you enjoy being around fresh crops of bratty British children that seem to have never stayed in a hotel before and push all the buttons in the elevator because they happen to like the way they light up? If your answer to these questions is yes then make your reservation today to stay at the FIAP Jean Monnet. Don't trust these reviews from 2011 (I'm looking at you Janet R.) that praise the fiap for all it has to offer, they must have written them before this place decayed into the steaming pile of shit that it is today. The idea that the computers not being up to date enough is the biggest knock on this place is laughable when considering the wifi is non-existent and the lobby is a heat-trapping greenhouse (look it up, that's actually what it looks like). But wait, at least the fiap has a cafeteria with affordable and nutritious dining right? No, wrong again! The food, referred to by current patrons as "fiap slop" (not affectionately) has been known to be recycled from days (possibly weeks) past and contain human hairs as well as pieces of plastic. The best thing that I can say about this hostel is that you will love your time walking around the streets of Paris while exploring the city if for no other reason than that you will not be stuck in this dump. It's only saving grace are the two regular lobby bartenders Charley and Baptiste, who took pity on us young travelers and provided us with enough laughs and beer to help us mentally escape our Parisian prison known as the Fiap Jean Monnet Please, i urge you not to make the mistake I did, and if you are already here then you know it's already too late...the fiap has you know now and you will be stuck cursing the name of Jean Monnet for years to come. Happy Travels!

Yelp
racist and rude. just like the rest of paris. cafeteria is overpriced. guy at the front desk with cross eyes is very very rude.

Yelp
Prior to arriving at the FIAP, I had read the reviews and was mortified to know I would be staying here 8 nights in mid August... Upon arrival, however, we were greeted by a friendly staff, and assigned our two-person room. The room came equipped with plenty of outlets, a blow dryer, closet space with hangers, desks, chairs, and decent sized beds. Beds are made every day, and trash is picked up. Every couple of days you are given new towels. NO, there is no air conditioning, but it was not the misery people make it out to be. We were there in August, and I still slept under the blanket every night. Also, noise was never an issue. I had a room overlooking the patio/bar, and I still had no issues with late night noise. I had a wonderful stay at the FIAP.

Jake W.

Yelp
I don't know where to even begin with this place. Paris is an absolutely beautiful city with so many great people but this "hotel" made me resent coming each night of our one month visit. I have been to Europe 5 times and I have never experienced living conditions like this place. This hotel takes pride in being an international place but the service proved otherwise. Only the front desk spoke passable English/Spanish. Every other employee could barely communicate without extensive sign language. The cleaning ladies where very rude and would kick you out of bed to clean the room despite trying explain to them that you don't want service today or that you would be leaving very shortly. These cleaning ladies actually personally broke my sunglasses and tried denying it even after I explained that they were not broken when I left my room. Even the last day a few people on my trip reported money taken from their baggage. Another major complaint was the food that they forced you to pay for. French cuisine is supposed to be the best in the world but this place actually made people trip literally sick. The service was awful as usual to the extent they wouldn't give you food that was edible even after asking the manager for a little more fries so you are not hungry 20 minutes later. The FIAP would serve the same food they would at lunch for dinner without even hiding it! The price for lunch is also almost twice that of dinner as a side note. The food was often times raw. I have pictures of completely raw hamburger meat and another students pork sausage raw to the extent that it was cold when it was clearly not supposed to be. Someone even got food poisoning during their last 2 nights in Paris. The food was usually burnt and was just very bland tasting. Another thing about this dining hall, apparently it is highly discouraged to fill a water bottle up with water from the water tap. A life necessity being denied by a worker in sunglasses resembling an African dictator. A person from my group actually got stuck in an elevator for 20 minutes until another guest stumbled upon him because the emergency button was disabled. As a paying guest it was also unpleasant when there were large groups of early teens running around the halls, slamming doors and having the nerve to call security on us when there were more than one person in our rooms. The only main upside of this place would be the facilities; if you ignored the ants that were present in the rooms and the nonstop noise from the construction across the street and in the hotel itself that wakes you up at 6:30 am. I have traveled almost my entire life and never have I experienced a residence this horrid for the price that we paid. I would NEVER recommend this hotel unless you are spending one night. I highly encourage anyone visiting Paris to do their research and avoid this "hotel" as much as possible.
