What an unexpected joy! The building itself is located on a slope, west of the tiny village of Fidaz, 4 minutes by car from the resort towns Flims-Laax-Falera. The hotel was built 1909 in typical hotel style of that period. Wrapping around the dining room are large arched windows with a spectacular views. In good weather one can eat on the terrace that runs outside the dining room. Next to it a herb/vegetable garden that serves the kitchen.||The hotel has 12 rooms of varying sizes, lovingly modernized. Small bath w/shower, but ingeniously designed, so one doesn't feel cramped. We had room #8 on the 3rd floor (by American counting), very large, spotlessly clean, a small balcony with the same spectacular view as the dining hall. Extremely quiet; a little paradise under the roof.||(One possible drawback for people with restricted mobility: No elevator). No "lobby" to speak of, but a nice salon where you can read and drink various kinds of tea (free!). On the lowest level of the building is an Ayurveda institute (sauna, steam bath, various massage rooms etc.etc.) Those have, incidentally, also great views.||The hotel prides itself to be the only one in Switzerland that has full Ayurveda capabilities (I'm no expert in this).||The breakfast buffet is varied and with best ingredients (locally grown, when possible etc.)||The cooking for lunch and dinner is deceptively simple, healthy, inventive and delicious. They serve, of course, regional specialties form the Grison Canton.||The service is unobtrusive, efficient and warm. One of the two managers is always around; they actually even help with the service in the dining room, when necessary.||This is not an inexpensive place, but certainly not out of line with the prevailing local prices. We felt we got much more than our money's worth.; preferred it by far to the huge, anonymous and cold hotel-palaces in the region.
