Travel to As Many of These Offbeat Places As You Can in 2018

"Sitting at the end of an antiques district in southern Denver, Fifty-Two 80’s is a tightly-packed womb of nostalgia, selling vintage items from a collection that looks like a museum for anyone who grew up in the heyday of Saturday morning cartoons.     Covering a span of about 15 years during the 80’s and 90’s, the entire shop is a museum of pop culture remembered in toys, clothes and memorabilia. Visitors (of a certain age) to the shop will likely find many of their old toys, familiar big-haired rockers thrashing on one TV while a few minutes of Ghostbusters II plays on another, and maybe some fashions they would have rather forgotten. There are boxes and boxes of trading cards for Cabbage Patch Kids, Garbage Pail Kids, New Kids on the Block, probably a few other varieties of kids. There are Smurfs, vintage Pepsi cans, Pac-Man, Care Bears, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Atari, Hulk Hogan, Beetlejuice, and just about every other loudly colored cultural icon and nostalgic fad cluttering every inch of the store. The store owners speculate that they have around 4,500 items in their collection including pinball machines, action figures, stuffed toys, shot glasses, cardboard cutouts, pins, posters, puzzles, board games, cassette tapes, video game cartridges, Halloween masks, and who knows what else. The inventory, which was initially put together in just a year and a half, is essentially a time-machine that transports shoppers back to a time when catching the new cartoons on an early weekend morning was the best part of the week. Especially if they had a bowl of Jurassic Park cereal, which is also for sale at Fifty-Two 80’s." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

This store is an absolute blast from the past!! Upon stepping into the store, you're immediately filled with nostalgia and whimsical joy. There is a huge variety of trinkets from all kinds of 80s media and brand lines, with so many pieces being in perfect condition and awesome prices! I bought a Tenderheart Care Bear plush and Kewpie doll while my husband got a Pokémon cards!

Every time we're here We're treated kindly and enjoy our experience. We visit often. I just bought my wife this vintage Peewee Herman doll with the drawl string for her birthday. This place was awesome! We were going to a different store and saw this gem and had to go in! So much nostalgia here, and things aren't crazy expensive like at other shops. Weill definitely come back to see what new/old things they have!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a vintage toy shop, and I must say it was a trip down memory lane. The shop's charming atmosphere, filled with classic toys from various eras, instantly transported me to my own childhood. The selection was impressive, featuring everything from antique dolls to retro board games, collectible action figures and even vintage commercials on tv. The owners were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about toys, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I left the shop with a few treasures that brought back fond memories, and I highly recommend this store to anyone looking to relive the magic of their youth or discover vintage toys from the past. It's a nostalgic haven that's well worth a visit.

Google
There is so much stuff here! It’s cool to reminisce with memorabilia and toys that bring back nostalgia. If you lived in the 80’s and 90’s you’re bound to find something you had or played with growing up. Only downside is most of this stuff is sourced from previous owners so you are likely not the first owner or there may not be everything in stock. But over all a fun place to visit and reminisce.

Google
Attention Children of the 80s - Be prepared to be hit by waves of nostalgia! Sooooo many of the toys from my childhood and TONS of new old stock trading cards in the wax packs. When you walk in the smell of those freakishly-hard sticks of gum in the card packs smacks you in the face and it’s awesome.

Van-Troi Perozo

Google
Awesome nostalgia and collectibles shop. Great owners. Be prepared to spend some time and money in there. It's worth every penny! They don't advertise and have been in business on South Broadway for 10 years. Great little niche if you're in Denver.

Yelp
Talk about a blast from the past! What a cool little store chock full of so much nostalgia. This was a super fun day date stop perusing the hundreds of toys, cards, games, books, artwork and trinkets - many from my own childhood. A lot of the toys here are from the 70s-90s but they have some older and newer stuff too. Many are used, some new and they do have some collectibles. It's a pretty tight space completely packed with stuff so it can take awhile to look through everything, but isn't that part of the fun? The staff are super nice and knowledgeable and just ask that you don't manhandle everything because there's some old stuff there they don't want dirtied or broken which is a no brainer. They have hand sanitizer at the entrance to help with that. We had a fun time reliving some of our youth and I saw toys there I hadn't thought about since I was in elementary school. A must-do if you're in the Denver area looking for something unique to do.

Yelp
Always love to wander in the past. All my happy childhood memories represented. An item brings back my playtime. A scent still imbued in the figure recalls friendships. So many items here of good quality and still with a lot of play left in them. Electronics and clothing, dolls, action figures.. and the service is great. Friendly and knowledgeable. Prices range from affordable to pricey. Something for everyone. Street parking.
google avatar

Jessie J.

Yelp
This place was so cool!!! You can tell they've put so much time into collecting the items featured in their shop. The owner was super sweet & let us stay a little past close to let us check out everything. The items in this vintage shop are like nothing I've ever seen before. It's a must!! The prices are reasonable as well.
google avatar

Miranda R.

Yelp
If you are an 80s kid prepare yourself to get emotional coming into this store! It's loaded with so much great stuff in excellent condition and very fairly priced. The owner was available, friendly and informative while also giving you plenty of space to reminisce and enjoy their great selection of totally rad collectibles. Such a cute and well organized shop definitely worth a visit. And oops I spent $70 on pins, stickers and earrings lol. No regrets.
google avatar

Deborah M.

Yelp
You. Must. Go!!!!! The instant nostalgia and squeals of delight echo through the store. Awesome in every way and the perfect spot to take out of town guests for a little treat- speaking of treats- pop into the Azucar bakery next door for delicious cakes, treats, and empanadas!! So fun!!!
google avatar

Duane C.

Yelp
It's a time capsule to your childhood. Spent an hour there and I believe I could have spent all day and still not seen everything!
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
Travel back in time to see all your favorite 80's toys you grew up with (talking to you 80's babies). Plan to walk down memory lane when you are here. You will have a 5 year old grin the whole time and your brain will spin with nostalgia. You will see childhood favorites (mine!) popples, wuzzles, strawberry short cake, cabbage patch kids, rainbow bright, gi-joe, Alf, gremlins, fraggles, garbage patch kids, trading cards... plus so, so, soooo much more. It looks as though everything (most everything) is for sale so you can buy your old childhood trinkets! Just the best store!
google avatar

Sara N.

Yelp
This place is chock full of toys that brought me back to my own childhood. It's odd to think of my toys as a kid as vintage but it was 35 years ago. If you are looking for something for your kids that you loved a s a kid, I highly recommend looking here first. If it existed and you want it, this is a good place to look. The owner was really friendly and there were a lot of "I remember....." coming out of my mouth. I don't know where she found some of these toys but it was a great trip down memory lane. Again, the store of small but every available surface had some kind of toy on it. My younger one loves all things Yoda and found her a pin she didn't already have. I know Yoda is hit or miss with Star Wars because he wasn't a main character but there is a solid Star Wars memorabilia section. There was even a Chairy folding chair outside and a large pink flamingo I want for my yard.
google avatar

Thomas Z.

Yelp
Hands down one of the coolest and best vintage toy stores ever! Super friendly staff and phenomenal collection of vintage toys from the 70s and 80s. Very welcoming environment and so much to see. Will definitely return soon and shop toy selection.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
This store is a most. Not just for fans of the 80's but especially for them. Every pop culture event of the greatest decade is on display and available for purchase. The owners extremely friendly and impressively knowledgeable about all the items available. This is a must stop every time we visit Denver.
google avatar

Kara H.

Yelp
Such a fun shop to stop by and get a little nostalgic. The owner was super friendly and informative, and the lady at the shop counter showed me how an animatronic care bear functioned (which I promptly bought for my niece because she is going to adore it). Loved how they prefer to buy and trade locally, and how they kept everything out rather than behind glass. Unfortunately due to covid they ask that you keep handling the merchandise to a minimum, but it was still so fun! If you're in the area, you should absolutely stop in.
google avatar

Sara G.

Yelp
Super cool stop! It's definitely a walk down memory lane. Toys are in amazing condition and reasonably priced. Owner is a nice lady. We enjoyed our visit!
google avatar

Enrique H.

Yelp
Good spot to find vintage items, I was legit able to find stuff that my mom owned in her times. Also found a lot of old toys and games from my childhood.
google avatar

Maggie M.

Yelp
I think about this shop often - it's a really cool place! Would 100000% recommend checking out if you're in town visiting and if you live in the area.
google avatar

Stephan R.

Yelp
Every inch of this store is filled with 80s and 90s nostalgia. They also have every single type of wax pack trading cards from all sorts of movies and pop culture.
google avatar

Dennis L.

Yelp
The gentleman who owns the store is so knowledge and friendly. I enjoyed talking to him about the time period and nostalgia as much as the store. The store is just a trove of 80s and 90s memorabilia. Prices were extremely reasonable. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Casey D.

Yelp
Yes, Yes, and More Yes!!! Gen X in tha house!! The 80's were amazing!! I mean we had Alf, Pee-Wee, E.T., Atari, cheesy wrestling, and so much more. I think more than anything it's the music that has held up over time. Good stuff. This throwback store is just the best. You can take a break from the real world and just bathe in 80's goodness. I'll meet you there for detention. Together, we can discover that we have a lot more in common than we thought.
google avatar

Gillian S.

Yelp
Moved meetings around to make it to this shop before they close. Got to it at 4:49 and they were closed. Another local shop said this is a regular occurrence. Don't bother wasting your time and travel to a shop that can't bother to be open during their posted hours.
google avatar

Ricki C.

Yelp
A trip to this store is like time traveling back to your Gen X childhood! So many cool trading cards, action figures, toys, books, music, and other fun items. I love Godzilla and was thrilled to find an unopened Godzilla Viewmaster reel pack! You can find everything from Cabbage Patch Dolls and Carebears, Star Wars to Transformers. Visit them soon!
google avatar

Danielle B.

Yelp
Such a cute little shop! It's fun to just look around but you can also buy and sell items. I will definitely be going back to purchase items! The owner was also really nice!

Erica R.

Yelp
This place is nostalgia central even if you weren't born in the 80s (born in 93) I was amazed by everything there was. If I'm ever in Denver again I will definitely go back!!!
google avatar

Suzanne P.

Yelp
A fun trip that will instantly immerse you in the 80s! You will see toys you have not seen in decades. The owner is helpful and curates the store inventory with love.
google avatar

Phillip B.

Yelp
I saw this store about a year ago and it had Broncos paraphernalia in the window. I finally found it again to look for vintage Broncos stuff and look at my loot. My Christmas gifts to myself. . The staff was very helpful and genuine. They've got a regular customer in me.
google avatar

Steven T.

Yelp
This place is a must see place for lovers of retro-vintage toys, trading cards, action figures etc. Reasonable pricing. I make sure to visit this place every trip to Denver I make. SLC needs a place like this!
google avatar

Christy K.

Yelp
Such a fun store! For anyone who is a fan of the 80s, this is the place to go! Everything from Cabbage Patch Dolls to Beavis & Butthead trading cards to Pee Wee videos to Atari cartridges and hit cassettes were there. The only things missing were Tom Selleck, church lady, and Mr. Bill.
google avatar

Jessica J.

Yelp
What can I say that others have not, this place is a 80's dream! Walk in and take a walk back in time looking at all the things from our past. Everything from Smurfs to slick retro Return of the Jedi stuff to Friday the 13th memorabilia. Hard not to find SOMETHING you don't need, but must have in this place. It is packed from floor to ceiling with retro stuff. Parking is usually easy (street). And it is right off Broadway with tons of other stuff around. It is tons of fun to go look.
google avatar

Dell K.

Yelp
This 50-80's collectable Toy store was such a great gem. They did a very good job at categorizing each section of themed toys. I enjoyed that they had a mixture of unopened an opened toys and I also like the fact that they buy too. They had a great amount of trading cards even ones that I didn't know that they had sold such as Demolition man , TRON, Rocketeer and other 80s flashback cards. I bought some classic Garbage Pail kids as a gift. The prices are everywhere from low to high and in between. Some items are priced a bit higher than should be, but this is a small business and I whole heartily support the prices that they set. They are by NO MEANS price gouging. The sales people were very welcoming and they were very kind as if I was talking to my neighbors (unless you have bad neighbors, that sucks for you and I'm sorry) I can't wait to return and buy a few more items for my 80's collections. Great investments.
google avatar

Patrick T.

Yelp
Constantly toy hunting and this treasure didn't disappoint! Great setup, colorful and eclectic.
google avatar

Bela C.

Yelp
This place was really cool, all sorts of crazy wacky nostalgia everywhere you look. The staff was really friendly and they make sure the store doesn't get too full for safety, you may need to wait at the door if it's busy. I really liked all of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones stuff! There was merchandise and cool stuff from just about every 80/90s tv show, band, or movie you could think of. My mom was a kid during that time period and she kept noticing things that she recognized.
google avatar

Eric O.

Yelp
I felt like I was in the 70's again. It felt so good to walk around in this suture, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I found me my weebles and little people that I used to play with when I was a kid, so I bought them for over $270. Things aren't cheap, but it was worth it. I'll be back again soon.
google avatar

Captain A.

Yelp
Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I was shocked to see the amount of 80's toys there was in one spot. It literally took me back to my childhood. To be honest the only thing I would change are the hours of operation. I'd open earlier and close later.
google avatar

Symbio D.

Yelp
This place is INSANE! I'm a 90s baby, but took my brother here & he was so excited from all the nostalgia. They have a lot of really cool vintage Broncos gear on hand & we all know that's the style now
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
This really is a totally awesome store! TONS of stuff from the 80's in here. Everything from action figures and video game consoles, to stand up posters and trading cards. My only wish for the store is that they dip in to the 90's a little now.

Aaron S.

Yelp
Came in from Seattle for a business event. Found this place online and took a quick Lyft there. We were not disappointed. They had so much great stuff from the 70s to 90s. Love this place will definitely come back when we visit again. It smells like bubble gum right as you walk in... so fun!!
google avatar

Yelp
Once I saw that this place existed, I HAD to check it out! My family and I drove 22+ hours to take our vacation in Colorado, with this store being one of the biggest draws to do so! I'd give it 5 stars except for one reason. I was SO excited to finally be able to shop here, and my husband and our two boys were ecstatic to look at all the throwback toys of our childhood, and the kids were just excited for toys lol. Our boys are ages 9&13, so I was able to warn them to behave themselves, and they were old enough to listen and on their best behavior. I had picked out a few small items to purchase and was debating on some bigger ones when I figured if I was getting ready to check out that I'd double back to the front door first and grab one of the magnets before being completely done shopping. The minute I was standing at the door browsing the magnets, the lady that works there sprinted over and offered to hold my purchases while I finished shopping. I told her I was fine, and she said she would be happy to hold onto them for me. I said, well I'm still debating whether or not to get some of the things I was holding, and she's like, well that's okay I'll put them behind the desk and you can still decide. Yes she smiled the entire time, but she was so nervous it was clear she was afraid I was going to run out the door, or pass my purchases off to someone else outside maybe. And I GET there are some crappy people out in the world who do that kind of stuff. I do understand stores need to protect their stock. But I was STILL inside the store. Just looking at the magnets. Of course I had every intention to pay for the items I wanted, and I prefer to hold onto them so I can check the prices and compare what I can get for the budget I've set, while I'm still looking around. But she would NOT leave me until I emptied my hands. And that I just don't get. You're so worried about losing a few dollars that you would treat your customers that way, I mean really?! A family of 4, and I'm a 30 something year old mother ooh'ing and ahh'ing over your fabulous store, and you're that sure I'm a shoplifter?? You lost a lot more business by treating me like that then you would have even if I was a shoplifter. Customer service is everything to me, so idc how cool your sh1t is, you don't know how to do business. Sorry
google avatar

Melissa I.

Yelp
I didn't buy anything here so I can't speak for my purchases but this place is great. It was pretty small but packed full of stuff. They had old video games, toys, dolls, trading cards, something for everyone. This was so fun and such a trip down memory lane. I would have gotten a few items but they were just so expensive - although I understand why. If you like the 80s and early 90s, check this place out!
google avatar

Jason J.

Yelp
I grew up in the 80's, still love everything 80's and collect everything 80's. So this place was a score for me. I bought a Friday the 13th poster and if I had a place to just display everything I think I could go hog-wild in here. Definitely a place to keep coming back to.

Chad C.

Yelp
Cool store that I like to visit when in Denver. Last time I was in however, it was so crowded no one could move about and it was very difficult to look at any of the merchandise. Also, the prices had become quite high in comparison to the collector's market prices. Still, I will check back next time I'm in town, and hope for a more enjoyable experience. I would recommend a stop in if you are nostalgic for the 1980's.
google avatar

Kim D.

Yelp
You'll spend hours in here exclaiming "omg remember these??" and "omg I had these as a kid!" and "omg I forgot all about these!" to whoever came with you (or maybe even to strangers.) Such an awesome collection that brought back so many memories from growing up. This place is awesome.
google avatar

Adrienne C.

Yelp
This store is awesome. It was great seeing so many of my old toys and flashbacks to the good old days. ET, Pee Wee Herman, Glow Worms, Teddy Ruxpin, puffy stickers, NKOTB dolls, Jem, Cabbage Patch Kids, plastic charms, and much more. Check store hours before visiting, they didn't open until 12 the day we went.
google avatar

Hannah M.

Yelp
What a cool store. Enjoyed laughing about old memories from the '80s & early '90s. So many shows & cartoons I had completely forgotten about came back to life in an instant. Every single inch of this place is another brightly colored vintage treasure. Makes ya feel old, but also reminds you of a time without all the technology. When we actually played with things & collected little miniatures of our favorite Saturday morning cartoons. Gal working the desk was helpful & friendly. Purchased a few magnets. Definitely a place to keep stopping by as their selection changes.
google avatar

Yelp
The GREATEST store on earth. It's like stepping into a different era. If you love the 70's/80's you NEED to come in. Mind blowing. Truly. On a personal note: The owners, Dede and Tony, are genuinely good, friendly, caring, salt-of-the-earth people. They paid me a kindness (that I won't share here, don't want everyone to expect things) that really, truly meant the world to me on my birthday. They certainly didn't have to, yet they did. Not only did they pay this kindness, they did it with no questions asked and, seemingly, joy. Amazing. They went out of their way for a complete stranger. We need more people like Tony and Dede in our society, it would be a much better place. Never have I felt a business owner was more deserving of a positive review/recommendation. I've been managing businesses for 23+ years. I have managed hundreds and hundreds of employees/team members over that time, I would kill to have had ONE employee that was even remotely as customer service oriented/attentive/focused as they are. Go visit the store, it will absolutely blow your mind. Support THIS small business, they deserve it. After you have a blast at the store make sure you let some friends know!
google avatar

Ashli S.

Yelp
This place totally rocks! My fellow 80's baby friend was in town for the weekend and so we checked this place out. It totally was a flash back to the good ole days! They have an amazing selection of toys, even the ones you loved and forgot about! 5280s is such an original and fun concept and I applaud the owners! We had a blast visiting!
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Wayyyyy overpriced store. There is nothing in this store that you can't find on Amazon or EBay for a whole lot cheaper. Before you decide to buy here check online for the same item. I guarantee you'll find it cheaper. They have the nerve to charge outrageous prices for toys that are broken or missing parts. I bought an item that had missing parts for $200 and later saw the same item on eBay for $70 and it was complete and working. Don't make the same mistake I did and save yourself a whole lot of money. If you see something you like, check online first. It will only take a minute to check and will probably save you a lot of money.
google avatar

M C.

Yelp
Aaah!! This place was such a fun gem! A must see if you're traveling and visiting Denver. We almost didn't go in there and soooo glad we did in the end. So many items! Their collection is incredible! So much for the eyes to enjoy. And your heart is warmed to see all the nostalgia. Prices weren't bad too if you're looking for a keepsake or memorabilia. There aren't many unique stores like this. So stop by and have fun!
google avatar

Makaila F.

Yelp
Best toy shop of all time! Employees are extremely knowledgeable about their products got my mother her Mother's Day gift here the cutest monchichi. They have barbie,Star Wars, fraggle rock, trolls, strawberry shortcake seriously so much more so many old toys I Couldn't even name I'll forever be a return customer!
google avatar

Brian K.

Yelp
Very cool little shop! So many toys, games, candy, and all sorts of vintage items for sale. Growing up in the 80s, this store brought back tons of memories for me. Star Wars, G.I. Joe, ALF, and a hundred other movies and TV shows are represented with action-figures, posters, collector card packs, dolls, and more. We definitely went home with a few select items. They said they add new items all the time, so I'll be sure to return next time I'm in town.

They should make a video of customer reactions as they browse. We found ourselves reminiscing and definitely left with a rekindled appreciation for our simple childhood toys that we cherished. Definitely worth checking out!

Yelp
Dude! Check out this gnarly 80s shop on south Broadway! It is totally bitchin'! I had the joy of visiting with the owners while there and they are RAD! You can find some wicked awesome items, like Smurfs, Star Wars, Garfield, Nintendo, Pac Man, jewelry, Care Bear and more! Totally kewl, rad, place to hang! No duh! Later days............
