We came to Figlmüller Wollzeile specifically to try the famous schnitzel that Vienna is known for, and while it was good, I’m not sure it quite lived up to the “best in the world” reputation. The portion was generous, and the breading was crispy, but it didn’t blow me away. What I really enjoyed was the potato salad. I’m glad I tried it. It was unlike any potato salad I’ve had before, and I thought it was excellent. The service was efficient and friendly, which I appreciated. What held me back from rating it higher was the price. The schnitzel alone was €22, and even tap water cost €3 for .75ml. With the potato salad and a tip, the total came to €35 for a pretty simple meal. It didn’t feel like the best value for what we got. Overall, it’s worth trying if you’re in Vienna and curious about the schnitzel hype, but go in knowing that it’s more about the experience than getting a great deal.

We were looking for a good schnitzel and found this place through Yelp. We took a chance and walked over, not knowing that it is SO much better to make a reservation. Miraculously, we were able to get seated right away for a table of two. I am not sure how we lucked out with no wait and no reservation. It’s a small interior but we got to sit near the windows and people watch. I had the classic schnitzel with what I thought was going to roasted potatoes and my friend got the chicken version with parsley potatoes. The portion was very large since it was pounded very thin. It was crispy and tasted pretty good. My “roasted” potatoes reminded me of hash browns with what I think was dill in it. I still feel like I received the wrong side dish. I wasn’t too happy with them and didn’t really eat them. But it was ok, because the schnitzel was plenty of food! The server was a little abrupt but I’m guessing that is just due to how busy it was and/or the culture. Overall I’m glad we gave it a try and next time we’ll make a reservation.

When we arrived, there were only three people in front of us, and we were told the wait would be around 10 minutes. However, we were seated after more than 30 minutes. While waiting in line, a staff member suddenly banged on the wooden door and loudly announced, “Cash only! No credit cards!” in a very stern and aggressive tone. It felt more like a warning than information, and a few people actually left the line after that. The atmosphere and presentation were nice. We ordered veal schnitzel and chicken cordon bleu. While the food was decent, it didn’t match the reputation this restaurant carries. It was also surprising that condiments like mayonnaise and mustard were charged separately. Our bill was €71.10, and since they insisted on cash, we gave €101.10. We waited around 10 minutes for the change. After asking twice, the waiter finally brought back €30 without any explanation. This made the situation uncomfortable and left a poor final impression.

Google
I went here for a classic schnitzel and I was not disappointed : great one with a good kartoffensalat and a perfect spritz. Nice location and a good vibe. Recommend to reserve in advance to ensure you find place, expect Austrian style of waiters. You can see the kitchen and how the food is made.

Google
The best schnitzel I've ever had, seriously. It was like a nice warm culinary hug that you never wanna get out of it. The potaoe salad was exquisite. The restaurant is warm and a perfect place for either a date or a family diner/lunch. The service was friendly and fun. I definitely found my favorite dining place in Vienna.

Google
Th original Figlmüller restaurant, world famous for its schnitzel. First, reservations are a MUST. Walk-ins are not possible at this branch. I booked my table ~3-4 weeks in advance. No tables were available during peak evening hours, so I had to settle for an early supper. The restaurant is small, traditional looking and cozy. The professional waiter was welcoming and friendly. I started my dining experience with a ‘hearty beef soup with semolina dumplings. Delicious! The main course was the Figlmüller original pork schnitzel accompanied with a potato salad. The schnitzel was fantastic! The potato salad was excellent as well. I washed both down with grape juice, one of the best I have ever consumed. Figlmüller at Wollzeile absolutely deserves its high rating and the schnitzel you have here will probably be one of the best you will have.

Google
We booked a table a month in advance — which I highly recommend. Figlmüller was our first restaurant stop, and it was such a delicious experience. I didn’t expect to enjoy it that much — I just wanted to try something traditional! One schnitzel plus a mixed salad is more than enough for two people. I’d even say it’s the perfect amount — the schnitzel is huge. P.S. There’s a newer Figlmüller location nearby, but I recommend visiting this original one to really feel the atmosphere.

Google
It was our second time in this amazing restaurant. The staff were extremely polite and professional, the food was authentic and delicious. The schnitzel was the size of my head 😂 Ask the waiter for his recommendations, they know best. I highly recommend to make a reservation in advance because there is a line and sometimes they are not able to sit you without a reservation.

Yelp
This little restaurant in the heart of Vienna is a masterpiece unto itself. Claiming to be the original schnitzel house, the oversized golden-fried veal schnitzel extends over the plate and is filled with crispy goodness. Squirt lemon on your delicious meal and it enhances the crispy bite with a lemon kiss. Though I prefer the potato salad at another restaurant, the potato salad at Figlmüller was great and helps cut through the heartiness of the schnitzel and resets your mouth for the next bite. Overall, we'd definitely recommend this place to everyone! One bit of advice, DO NOT TRY TO WALK-IN! You HAVE TO make a reservation. Trust me, it is worth it!

Yelp
Cute spot for some schnitzel but definitely make reservations before or you will not get seated. I got lucky and was able to snag a reservation a month before my trip. They book up fast so if you do decide to go then make sure to make it far in advance! The queue was long outside the restaurant but they were not seating people without a reservation. Even with our reservation we had to wait for sometime for the table to be ready. Inside was tight and cramped. The service was quick but not the friendliest. There is a toilet outside so you have to ask for the key. The schnitzel was ok, nothing special about it. It seemed like it was more for the atmosphere.

Yelp
A little touristy but very good quality food and very good service. The schnitzel was well made and even thoughI don't like fried food, this one was well made and dry!! Good flavor and with the tomatoes salad, it was great.... Also the wine was very very good. A must!
google avatar

Alexis Andrea N.

Yelp
Succulent, lemony weinerschnitzel with absolutely gorgeous potato salad and lingonberry. Washed down with a veltliner. This was somewhat expected, actually not the potato salad, that knocked me over. But did not expect such a beautifully designed restaurant! Deep greens and modern accents! Definitely get a reservation though there were long lines! Also service can get a little slow as it gets more busy.
google avatar

Yelp
We were seated right away and waited on immediately. I did feel like we were being rushed a bit. We both got the schnitzel, which was a mistake. Due to the size, we should have shared one and/or, one of us could have tried something different The schnitzel and white wine were very good and we did enjoy the authentic Austrian pub vibe. The menu is quite limited, but the schnitzel is worth a try.
google avatar

Brandon T.

Yelp
This place was exactly what we expected. One of the best schnitzels I've ever had. The service and ambiance was also excellent. My wife got the chicken instead of the classic option, which wasn't a giant schnitzel like mine but still tasted good. You can tell they use high quality ingredients and the fry was perfect. If you are looking for a good classic schnitzel I cannot recommend this place enough!
google avatar

Leo L.

Yelp
They claim they have the best schnitzel. The restaurant is pretty fancy with dressed-up professional waiters and classic fine-dining vibe. Their schnitzel is pretty delicious especially when paired with the potato salad. I am going to let you guys in on a secret I discovered...the best schnitzel is actually in Salzburg.
google avatar

Steven K.

Yelp
You enter the restaurant & feel & see the history all around. The food was phenomenal & the service was great as well. The waiter was very attentive.
google avatar

Yelp
The place is very touristic. The quite good. But nees to wait for ling line. If you have the time is recommended to try the restaurant.

Yelp
Figlmüller is a renowned restaurant in Vienna, known for its iconic Wiener Schnitzel. While I don't eat meat, my spinach salad was fantastic. It had a honey mustard vinaigrette that was zesty and delicious. This is a cozy spot with wooden booths. Their schnitzel is legendary--breaded veal and pork cutlets so large they overflow the plate. Given its popularity, get a reservation or you will stand in line.

Yelp
Everyone said you have to try wiener schnitzel when in Vienna, and so I did. The best way to describe it--country fried steak but better. It's flatten veal coated in a bread crumbs and fried until it's crispy and golden. They serve it with a lemon wedge but I wish they served it with some sauce because it felt a little too dry after a few bites. The veal is thin and tender which was a good ratio to the bread crumbs. It was crispy with each evenly bite. The restaurant is a wait depending on when you get in line. My group waited about 30 minutes. Which is not too bad for a nice restaurant that normally keeps busy. The establishment is gorgeous with seating on the ground floor and upstairs. Even though it's roomy, with all the tables and chairs filled it became a little too crowded. The servers were decently friendly, but quite slow in taking our orders and it look awhile to get our food. Luckily I had grape juice (really delicious) that helped curb my hunger. Food overall was good, but I felt I could have gotten the same food quality at other restaurants that weren't so hyped or upscale. Service definitely could have been friendlier.

Yelp
This was our first meal upon arriving in Vienna. I made reservations for 12pm which was suggested in a YouTube video I had watched, but when we got there there were some tables open and we were seated right away. We ordered their schnitzel, veal goulash, potato salad. We enjoyed everything! If you come to FIGLMÜLLER, don't skip any of these dishes. Absolutely delicious! During our trip, we tried these same dishes at other restaurants and I preferred Figlmüller's version. Overall, cute restaurant with great service and friendly staff. Highly recommend coming here if you ever find yourself in Vienna!
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good food, ok service. This surprisingly feels like a chain restaurant. They are in a hurry to get you in and out of the dining experience so don't expect courses or even recommendations. We over ordered our Schnitzel meals. You can easily split one between two people. We recommend getting a couple salads which you can eat with the schnitzel, it's kind of dry and boring without it. One potato salad for four is fine. They don't sell beer, only wine and the bathroom requires a large key and a trip outside the restaurant.
google avatar

DeeAnn G.

Yelp
Wine only, no beer. Servers wear tux's, but it pretty casual. They fit us in without a resy early. We had some wine and the schnitzel and the chicken cordon blue. Both were very good! Get the lingonberry sauce on the side! Don't forget that Austrian potato salad topped with greens! Yum-O!! Service was great, ambiance nice, would recommend!

Yelp
So this was my first time in Vienna with my lady, and we had to hit some of the local spots known for the top tastes in the city. Figlmüller is definitely one of those spots. The schnitzel here actually lives up to the hype, which is rare these days. The portion sizes are legit, and the prices are fair. For 19€, you get a schnitzel, the size of two faces, which I think is pretty good. The potato salad is also fantastic - highly recommend! The service is quick and the employees are very polite and accommodating. Ambience is perfect for a date or for a group of people looking to have a good time. All in all, you need to come here if you visit Vienna!
google avatar

Yelp
This is regarded as one of the best restaurants in Vienna for Wienerschnitzel, and it did not disappoint. Here it's made from pork (vs.veal), and had a great flavor. We also had the potato field salad and beef broth soup, which were both nice as well. The service was excellent! There are two locations, and I think this is the smaller one. Call far in advance for a reservation... we did but saw many being turned away who didn't plan ahead.

Yelp
The food and service here was a great delectable experience. I was unaware of how to eat my Viennese Boiled Beef and our server was so delightful in explaining/helping me along the way. It was great trying local dishes for the first time at such a great restaurant with an intriguing history. I enjoyed everything we ordered but my absolute favorite was the dessert of Kaiserschmarrm, it was warm and delicious. Great charming, vintage ambiance and decor. I highly recommend a reservation, we lucked out and was seated right away however when we were leaving the line to get in was so long, very much a testament to the great food and service. If ever in Vienna be that tourist and go to this must have delectable experience.

Felix B.

Yelp
This is the ultimate place for Shnitzel. The Schnitzel comes in the size of a medium pizza. It is nice and moist. You need to make resereservations or they will send you to their other location around the corner, lol. The service is fast,.so fast that we got our drinks and food within 10 minutes. They want you to eat fast and go. I did feel rushed. However, the ambience is classic, the food is amazing. 4 glasses of wine and 2 main courses with side ssalads came to about €85.

Yelp
When I booked a trip to Vienna this was the first place I made a reservation for. The most famous schnitzel in the city known for it, must be worth it right? I wanted to believe. I saw the pictures. It's flat, over the edge of the plate. Some places even call it the most iconic restaurant in the WORLD. It's even advertised in the airport upon landing. But...it's just not that good. The room is fine. Classic Vienna as are the efficient servers churning through expectant diners night after night. But the schnitzel is pork only. Not the typical veal. This is a non issue for me just know it's not the classic schnitzel you have in mind. The issue is the schnitzel is very bland. No real seasoning, no berry or other sauce. Just a lemon slice and vinegary potato salad (if you order it, which you should) to get you through the big dry disc. I've had better elsewhere around Vienna after this but also in London and just about everywhere else I've had a schnitzel. Also was told the chicken option was worse than the pork. House gruner veltliner was decent. Riesling less so. I hate bashing places and it was still a nice enough meal. If you want to go, go for it but please book far ahead of time so you aren't crowding the narrow alley like so many others and generally manage your expectations.

Philip H.

Yelp
Good food. Fair line to get in (30-min) for late lunch. 20-min to take order. 10-min to get appetizer (beef soup) Another 25-min to get main food, after inquiring... Almost an hour to start to eat... Two other groups seated after us ate & left... Little attention from staff in general. Disappointing meal overall.
google avatar

JoJo E.

Yelp
The OG schnitzel according to locals. It's thin. Crispy. Fatty. Heaven on a plate. If you try one place in Vienna, this is it. The service was superb. I forgot the name of the neighborhood but it's in one of the oldest parts. Felt like I was in a WW2 movie. Very cool.
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
It's busy and popular with both tourists and a locals, but it lived up to the hype. We split the special (schnitzel and potato salad with pumpkin seed oil) and it was delicious. They forgot our soup but we eventually received it as a post main course and they comped us some schnapps.
google avatar

Lila L.

Yelp
Had a reservation for one and was seated immediately. Got the pork schnitzel and it was bigger than my face and plate. Although, the pork was thin and wasn't greasy, it needed a sauce or some dip since it only comes with a wedge of lemon. It gets dry and tasteless as you eat more. I also got a side of salad which helped lightened up the meal. Welcoming service but very fast turnaround. Come if you want to check off trying the world famous schnitzel but I can't say it's the best or satisfyingly good.

Yelp
I would like to start by congratulating the server on the ground floor of his trip to Spain, which he happily chatted on with two customers for 24 minutes while there were two tables where the customers have left but still haven't cleaned, while an line of freezing customers was waiting outside the door. it's not my nature to eavesdrop, but where we were waiting happened to be right next to the table he was talking to. Truly, he didn't even prepare those two tables, the hostess/receptionist had to step in and do it for him. We originally decided to visit this restaurant precisely because of its popularity on this site. When we arrived at what we presume is the door. There was a waitress when I tried to entered the door she physically pushed me outside, and told us to wait. Which we did, for 7ish mins in the cold, before she deigned to ask if we have a reservation (we didn't) and inform us we are at the wrong door, the right door is 50 m away. When we got the right door we saw a line of 8ish people, so we decided to join in and wait. What a foolish decision that was, as it turned into 1 hour in the cold and another 30 ish mins inside. We actually didn't have much complaint when we were waiting outside because it's evident this restaurant is popular, but when we entered we watched the waiter on first floor twiddle his thumbs. I'm sure he loved the Mediterranean coast, but the hostess had to do the job of both while more and more people with reservations were even asked to wait. It was comical how badly everything was managed. We did eat in the end, but at this point, I will not comment on the food, for the experience itself is damning.
google avatar

Louis C.

Yelp
One of the top tourist attractions in Vienna known for their Wiener schnitzels. They accept walkings and the line seemed long when we arrived around 6:00; but, it moves surprisingly fast. We waited for about 25 minutes and got our table. The food is about average but the service was quite slow. We waited seemed forever for each dish to come outback. The waiter didn't seem very interested in checking on us. He rather send 20 minutes chitchatting with the next table. Prices here are also relatively high even compared to other tourist traps. Personally I'd prefer Cafe Landtmann more than here.

Mir S.

Yelp
Food was nice. Atmosphere was pretty good. We had Schnitzel, lentil soup and potato salad Lentil soup was amazing
google avatar

Yelp
This might sound silly but our entire day trip to Vienna was planned around a reservation at Figmuller. My BIL made the reservation for us and gave us all the food recommendations on what to order. The food is amazing. Our waiter was so helpful when deciding what to order and what was too much and how much food we wanted between two people. All of his recommendations did not disappoint. Of course we both ordered schnitzel and honestly we could have even split one. They were huge! practically falling off the plate. We also ordered potato salad, cucumber salad and tomato salad. All were so refreshing! We also ordered fries because they looked amazing. We were definitely full and happy by the time we were finished. I highly recommend making a reservation as the restaurant was packed when we were there! Also a note of cultural differences for Americans visiting: 1. is when you are done, you need to ask for the check. 2. check what tipping norms are, I think we were told traditional tipping is around 10% 3. when you finish your water, you need to ask for more water, they do not have someone you walks around filling waters. Overall, I recommend for anyone visiting to check this place out!

Yelp
This is a grossly over-hyped place. You can get the same or better quality, quantity, and price in almost any other place in Vienna, with no reservation required. We decided to try FiglMuller baased on a Google search. We could not get their reservation app to work, so we took a chance. We were seated faily promptly and told we could only have the table for an hour due to another party's reservation. No problem. Then they come back and say we can stay as long as we like. Yay! We win. Then the waiter decided to refight WWII with the Mrs, and that totally killed the evening. We asked to speak to the manager, and he took the waite's side in the argument. The argument? The waiter took offense that the Mrs uses her middle finger to point to something on the menu in order to ask a question, and that is an offensive gesture in Austria. He took the "liberty" of correcting her faux pax. Schitzel is a common bar food, all over the city. the only thing "unique about Figlmuller is the offering of calve's liver, and that was so dry as to be almost inedible. Try Schwartzenberger instead.
google avatar

Regina M.

Yelp
We came here for lunch because we wanted to have a schnitzel on our trip in Vienna. Thankfully, we got seated right away when we arrived, there was a queue a couple minutes after our arrival. This restaurant is known for having the largest schnitzel in the world and they definitely do. It's bigger than the plate! It was very delicious, I couldn't finish mine so I took it to go. The roasted potatoes reminded me of a hash brown, definitely different than what we expected but they were still delicious. The service was ok, our waiter wasn't the most attentive, but other than that everything was great. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a good Schnitzel in Vienna!

Yelp
I've eaten at Figlmuller at least 10 times over the years and dinner last night (Nov. 21, 2022) was wonderful as usual! You MUST make a reservation in advance which is very easy to do online or by calling them. I prefer their atmospheric "Wollzeile 5" location to the Backerstrasse one, especially the enclosed "Terrace" at Wollzeile 5. Once there, give serious thought to how hungry you are since the schnitzels are huge! My husband and I split one and shared a potato salad (yum!) as well as a mixed green salad. It was the perfect amount of food! We also enjoyed a very nice Austrian red made from the "Zweigelt" grape. I cannot recommend Figlmuller highly enough!

Yelp
Came here last week once we saw the abundant amount of reviews and the line out the door. Good tourist spot for those on vacation for a classic Vienna Wiener Schnitzel! Schnitzel - 9/10 way better than the other schnitzels I had in Vienna, very crispy and flavorful and not dry at all Potato Salad - 9/10 so yummy and I loved the sauce, very unique and different from American potato salad Beef Soup - 7/10 good, but a bit salty Overall good experience! Service was great and prices were also fair (higher given the fact that it's a tourist spot, but worth it). Would recommend coming much earlier in the evening to skip the wait!
google avatar

Yelp
This place was awesome and very friendly workers (especially for those that didn't speak German). I got what was (I believe) very authentic Austrian food. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Ina F.

Yelp
Worth the wait! There are two spots for this actually, and you have a better chance of getting seated if your party is smaller. I had been eating all day at this point and didn't think I could finish an entire schnitzel so we told our server we would share one order. They very kindly cut it in half and served it on separate plates. This was so good. I couldn't believe how good it was. Very thinly pounded pork; the breading is so fine it was almost a batter in texture. Have the fries with it and wash it all down with a radler!
google avatar

Yelp
A must visit when you get into the city of Vienna! The Austrian beef broth was fantastic, just the right amount of spices. The Schnitzel with lemon and real potato salad was fantastic too. Huge portion!! The restaurant has been here since 1905, make sure you get there early or get a reservation. This is a very popular place!! After you are done dinner walk it off by checking out the beautiful Cathedral!

Yelp
Lunch during our visit to Vienna. Wonderful, authentic schnitzel. Bring your appetite !!

Tim S.

Yelp
Great place for traditional Austrian food at a reasonable price. The food is good, hearty and large portions. Very local feel to the atmosphere. I would go again.

Barbara N.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch to have, what we were told, the "best" schnitzel in Vienna. I'm not a meat eater but my husband and 2 friends agreed it was indeed the best they have had over the past 2 weeks of traveling. As a vegetarian, I will say that their lentil dish was delicious and so welcome after so much fried cheese options. Make a reservation. We didn't have one for lunch but they wanted to go back and it was booked.
google avatar

Daniel H.

Yelp
Went here for a Schnitzel, and they did not disappoint. It was crowded on a weekend for lunch, so I would definitely try and make a reservation. Schnitzel was absolutely wonderful, and the beer selection was on point.
google avatar

Yelp
Absolute perfection. Do not skip the potato salad! The service is impeccable! A must!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious - best dumpling soup & schnitzel! Great service, wine, and ambiance! Can often times be a wait but well worth it!

Fay B.

Yelp
Figlmüller Schnitzel transformed into a Hapsburg. The schnitzel was a bit a chewy. Wish there was some sauce or some greens to put some hair on his handsome face. Half portion is bigger than you think. Thank you @Alan V. for the artistic inspiration.

Yelp
Food is authentic and delicious. Potato salad is awesome. Schnitzel was great and it has an authentic vibe

Yelp
For the foodie American without spoken German, like me, food in Vienna can be intimidating! I had made reservations months in advance, only to get stuck in a tour that run much longer than anticipated. So I cancelled with the link on my confirmation email. I was later reprimanded by the hostess for not calling her instead of cancelling! Don't do like me! About the food: wife and I came here for the Schnitzel but my 15 y/o decided he wanted steak and onions after having Schnitzel elsewhere for 2 consecutive days against my advice. This one was by far the best one in town, but what I loved the most was their signature potato salad with watercress!!!! the pumpking seed oil does something magic to it. Our waiter was great, very accommodating and brought mayo, ketchup, and mustard. Why you might ask? Let me tell you, while german speaking countries may claim Schnitzel being theirs, the Italians make a killer Milanese which is virtually the same. The italians took Milanese to Argentina where this is a staple, and they introduced a mix of mayo and ketchup with a tad of mustard to dab every bite. While the Austrians may think they're onto something with their silly berry mermelade, the Argentineans know better:)
google avatar

Gautham P.

Yelp
Their special pork schnitzel was pretty good and massive! I could not finish it because it was a lot. The Viennese potato salad was the real highlight and it was delicious!

Yelp
After visiting Figlmuller, I wished I had more time to research restaurants in Vienna. I had an unexpected overnight layover and so did not have much time. I chose Figlmuller because it was easily acceptable and well reviewed. In any case, the schniztel here was just average, but other things were quite nice. I had a couple of very nice glasses of wine from the list, the ambiance was nice, if a bit stuffy in the wine cellar on a hot summer night. The service was was adequate. I am not sure what time I arrived at Figlmuller, I know it was a bit early for the usual dinner time. By the time I left there was a line all the way down the street. I would love to visit Vienna for a longer period of time, but Figlmuller will not be on my go to list.

Sarit K.

Yelp
The shnitzels were very good and very big!!! The potato salat was amazing. We had a wonderful time eating there. The only thing that bothered me was the addition on the final bill of 20 percent. I did not understand the reason for this. In the other restaurants where we ate in Vienna, we were not asked to pay such an addition on the bill. Feels a bit like extortion

Chandra S.

Yelp
No words needed - just amazing and not to be missed when visiting Vienna. Thank you for excellent service and food!
google avatar

Erika M.

Yelp
Came for a nice quiet dinner with the husband and friends. The schnitzel here was probably the best of our entire trip. The potatoes were tender and flavorful. My only complaint was that the second floor was a heat box. We were sweating through dinner. But will definitely be back for another round!

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Make sure to have a reservation. Went to the original one which is highly recommended (wollzeile)
