Our experience was very up and down. There were some lovely aspects to staying at an authentic and less popular resort. Majority of the staff were so helpful and kind. Unfortunately we found out they only get paid $4 an hour. This is not good enough. We also had an incident where one of the staff threw small coconut balls at a stray puppy sitting next to me, after telling him I was fine with the dog being there. I held the dog close to stop him for getting hurt and the staff member hit me hard with the coconut. I understand it is not ideal to have strays around the resort but animal abuse is NOT OK. There were other occasions where we witnessed staff kicking the dogs too. Tash at activities was awesome and made things super fun! We loved aqua aerobics, pool volleyball with other guests and some of the entertainment at night.

We were visiting for two nights only from Suva as the kids really like the pool and slide. On arrival the pool was already looking green, but still usable. The next morning the whole pool was closed though, with the dreaded 'closed for chemical dosing' signs on display. Nothing appeared to be happening and it stayed closed for the rest of the day, only opening the next morning, right as we were leaving (still green though). Kids incredibly disappointed. If you are going to have a pool, please make sure you employ someone to maintain the pool to an acceptable level. This doesn't happen at other resorts, no matter how much it rains, and is a repeated issue at Hideaway. Breakfast is no longer self-service for the hot food. Instead you get to choose eggs with bacon OR sausage. How generous. On the plus side rooms are nice and spacious, AC, fan and fridge, the outside shower is a nice feature, lots of hot water. Some good areas of the beach to use at high tide and the grounds are lovely.

The staff are the best part of the resort. The bure I stayed in was in need of complete renovation the fan was so dirty I didn’t want to use it. Meals were ok. You could never get a clean towel for the pool and had to wait until the next day and hope they arrived. From ordering a meal it took up to 1 1/2 hrs to arrive. Drinks may or may not arrive with the meal. |I get it, everything happens in Fiji time but we had to ask for our drinks for lunch 3 times and it was a can of coke and lemonade. |Entertainment was great but the resort is in desperate need of a makeover.

Now don’t get me wrong, I was never expecting 5 star. However what we received was also not what I was expecting… |Check in was fine, we were early so our room wasn’t ready. Not a problem, we went and got some snacks from the supermarket down the road. Our bags were delivered to our room which was helpful. A bottle broke in our bag and they were kind enough to wash our clothes after hours for us at just a normal charge of $10 per wash and $10 per dry. We were very grateful. ||The water in our outside bath/shower came out brown as well as our toilet water. Our shower was significantly stained with grout and the pressure was not great. Our toilet often kept running then wouldn’t flush. ||On night 2 our air con broke. We asked twice to get this fixed. After the second time someone came, pulled out a lot of ice from the aircon and went to get more tools. We ended up going for lunch and asked if he could shut the door when finished. When we returned the air con was OFF and our room was so hot. Even with the broken aircon our room was just as hot inside as out. The aircon hadn’t been fixed and was leaking a lot more water than before. We were leaving the next day so tried to persevere until our check out but it was not pleasant. The amount of water was crazy and it dripped all night for 2 nights… |On our last night our water completely cut off and there was nothing coming out the shower. We ate dinner once at the resort but decided to go elsewhere the other nights as the food was ok but not great. However it is cheap, the night we ate at the resort was the cheapest dinner we had had in Fiji over our 10 night stay. |The laundry service and location were the highlights. I wouldn’t stay here again and I’m really disappointed we weren’t listened to about the aircon. The staff however, absolutely lovely and treated our children like royalty.

This is not a 4 star hotel, it is in great need of an upgrade. Not sure what is happening with the reviews as I published mine in Expedia and it was not published. The safe in the room was not working, asked the 1st day to be fixed, still waiting. There were no towels in the room had to ask for towels several times. No hand soap in the room. No tissues. The food was below average and expensive. The pool water was murky/dirty. The only reason we stayed was the staff, the ladies in the dining room were outstanding. The Hotel is owned by Tour managers so that explains a lot!

Stayed here with my family and loved it! The staff were so friendly and fun, It truely felt like a home away from home. Great location right on the reef, some days we swam in the ocean, others the pool. We went on a village tour on the first day and from that point on we felt apart of the local culture. Lovely rooms, comfy beds, and gorgeous grounds. Fun slide too!

We felt at home and relaxed from the first day. The staff treated us like family. Nothing was too much trouble. Snorkeling at high tide off the resort’s beachfront is a must. The activities are interesting and fun. We will be back!

I had the best experience at the hideaway resort. My dad and I went for a holiday and I’m so happy we picked this place. The highlight for me was definitely the staff. Their kindness, smiles and willingness to chat about everything made my trip so special. I really enjoyed getting to know the staff and learning more about Fiji through the people themselves. I would recommend the hideaway for everybody - especially if you’re curious about Fiji and like to chat to new people! 10/10 amazing
