I visited Fin Folk Food on two occasions while in PEI. The first was with a large family group for dinner. The second was with my husband for lunch after visiting the beach (lovely by the way). On both occasions we thought the food was outstanding. The hot lobster roll is one of the best I've ever had. The chowder was also excellent. Fish tacos were good. The drinks however, were all pretty disappointing. There were 11 of us in our group on the first visit. Those who got beer or a bottled/canned beverage were happy. The few of us who had cocktails were pretty disappointed. The drinks lacked flavour and seemed weak. When my husband and I returned, we stuck with canned seltzers which were more reliable.
The service was a bit hit and miss. It is a busy place, so some confusion is understandable, but servers, while friendly and well-intentioned, seemed to lack training in some cases. On our second visit, when we ordered canned seltzers, the server brought the seltzers but no glasses. Okay, fine, maybe they forgot. My husband went up to the bar to ask for glasses and different members of staff looked at him like he's an alien. Then they offer him plastic cups. He says "Can I have two GLASS glasses please" and they grudgingly hand them over. Why is this a big deal or an odd request? Looking around, most people have glasses on their tables. Other restaurants would actually POUR your beverage into a glass for you and maybe even add a wedge of lime or something, but here plunking a can down is what you can expect I guess. At least the seafood is excellent. That is what we are all there for! Just expect a very casual environment and avoid cocktails made at the bar.
Love Love Love that they have a dog-friendly section and a wall of dog pictures! I wish we had our pup with us when we visited. I would give them a bonus star just for this if I could because it can be very hard to find places to go with your dog, especially indoors, but since the food is prepared downstairs, the upstairs section allows dogs. Big kudos for that!
