Sam and Jeannie have successfully built hospitable accomodation from nothing over 40 years in their 40 hectares of Andalucian Forest. The unique, large pink 3 storey house, with all its architectural features, looks like it has been there for ever, rammed full with historic pictures, tiles and paraphernalia. They have their own well, swimming pool, eggs from their own hens, make jam from their own fruit and even have a friendly Iberian pig to visit. So the water tastes fresh, the bread is crusty, the scrambled eggs tasty, the Yorkshire tea, or Earl Gray and coffee are plentiful, with lots of local ham and cheese.|It felt a bit like an English Country House weekend, as we rested in the shade of the garden plants, occasionally swimming in the large infinity pool. We signed for chilled beers and drinks. In the garden were crested larks and overhead were vultures and eagles. The night sky sparkled down in the quiet evenings.|The local villages are charming with economical cafes. Aracena has world class caves and a castle. We learnt all about Iberian pigs and ate the top grade 5 ham, cured, then thinly sliced to perfection.|Very special.
