Son Palou, Orient, Mallorca - Explore & Book

"Mallorca has dozens of agroturismo properties - old farmhouses that have been converted into small rural hotels. We've checked out many of them, but Son Palou stands out from the crowd. Hidden away in the unspoilt Orient Valley in the northwest, this 14th-century finca is still owned by the Coloms, the same Mallorquin family who have farmed the land for generations. There are just 14 bedrooms featuring antique wooden beds, sleek bathrooms (some with Jacuzzis) and superb views, and a villa for 2-4 with its own pool. This is an ideal place to recharge your batteries: laze in the garden by the main infinity pool admiring the vistas, dine on fresh organic produce (the hotel is surrounded by apple and cherry orchards), have a massage or go hiking, riding or biking in the surrounding Tramuntana Mountains. Inside there are cosy sitting rooms, an honesty bar and billiard and card tables. Couples will hardly be able to tear themselves away to explore the nearest beaches (Soller), which are all within 30 minutes' driving. Highs Fabulous mountain and valley viewsRelaxing, peaceful and tranquil atmosphere with lots of pretty nooks for hiding awayA good-sized swimming pool set grounds, plus 150 hectare estate of orchards, trails and its own waterfallThe charming Colom family are incredibly welcomingDinner, a daily-changing menu of Mediterranean dishes, is exceptional Lows Off-the-beaten-track location (a high for some); hiring a car is a mustDon't expect a hectic nightlife - Orient is tiny but it does have a couple of other restaurants and a barIt gets booked up months in advance by returning guestsThe valley has its own microclimate: it can be cloudier in winter compared to the rest of the island, but thankfully slightly cooler in mid-summerYou’ll struggle to return to reality!" - Nikki Tinto

The Finca proved to be the perfect destination for our extended family holiday, 4 adults and 18 month old.|The accommodation is delightful, with all rooms being different and offering their own special charm. |The location is just stunning, and the lovely grounds enhance the natural beauty of the place. A fabulous pool, with plenty of sun lounges. |Fabulous staff and great food. |Just be aware that the property is quite isolated, with very few dining options nearby. A car is recommended if you’d like to explore Mallorca.

This was our third stay at this finca, our favourite in the whole of Mallorca! The Orient valley is simply beautiful; the views from the pool area and the front lawn are magical. The hotel itself is rustic but charming, and the staff (especially Olga) are wonderful. A peaceful paradise. Highly, highly recommended.

This our third visit to Finca Son Palou and we are already thinking of our next stay. The location, the hotel and grounds and the wonderful staff , not to mention fantastic food and service are second to none. It is an oasis for peace and tranquility and the local hiking is excellent. We also explored the surrounding area and would recommend the Jardins d’Alfabia. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay so enjoyable.

The small-scale Finca Son Palau is a jewel of a charming hotel, beautifully located in the Orient valley with spectacular views. Everything about this hotel is perfect: the spacious and tastefully decorated rooms, atmospheric rest areas everywhere and a beautiful swimming pool, the cosy patio for breakfast and dinner, high-quality meals with plenty of variety, the impeccable service from the friendly staff. The secluded mountain location adds to the tranquillity of the hotel. Half-board recommended due to the remote location, a rental car is necessary but the winding road is not for cowards! Beautiful walks start from the hotel (Castell d' Alaro walk recommended!) In short, a real hidden gem, far away from the crowds.

We spent a fantastic week in this little paradise, tucked away in the Tramuntana mountains. The surroundings are absolutely stunning, peaceful and marvelously maintained with lots of privacy. We had a very spacious room with it's own balcony with a stunning view of the mountains. What really stood out, was the warm and heartfelt service we received from the entire staff !! Also we can only compliment the cook for his creative and delicious menus served ! With the fantastic weather, we enjoyed daily a delicious breakfast and excellent 3-course dinners on their cozy terrace ! A big Thank you again to Olga, James, Julia, Diana and Allesandro for making our stay so amazing and memorable !

Yet again this lovely hotel welcomed us back: nothing is too much trouble and it maintains its unique position in the mountains as a place to relax and enjoy majorca at its best. The rooms are lovely and both breakfast and dinner are exceptional but the joy of an early morning walk followed by a peaceful morning by the pool and lunch is difficult to beat.

A fabulous location and great boutique hotel in a very tranquil setting. This was the second of three hotel stops on a self guided walking tour so it was selected by our tour operator, Headwater Holidays and could not have been better. If it were possible we would have stayed an extra day or so to relax before continuing our hike. Very friendly staff, attentive, well trained and helpful. The meals were all very good. Trying to think of an excuse to return for a relaxing break.

A very relaxed hotel, with simple pleasures in mind. And a lovely breakfast and evening meal. We really valued the infinity pool with drinks brought down from the bar.
