Son Palou, Orient, Mallorca - Explore & Book

"Mallorca has dozens of agroturismo properties - old farmhouses that have been converted into small rural hotels. We've checked out many of them, but Son Palou stands out from the crowd. Hidden away in the unspoilt Orient Valley in the northwest, this 14th-century finca is still owned by the Coloms, the same Mallorquin family who have farmed the land for generations. There are just 14 bedrooms featuring antique wooden beds, sleek bathrooms (some with Jacuzzis) and superb views, and a villa for 2-4 with its own pool. This is an ideal place to recharge your batteries: laze in the garden by the main infinity pool admiring the vistas, dine on fresh organic produce (the hotel is surrounded by apple and cherry orchards), have a massage or go hiking, riding or biking in the surrounding Tramuntana Mountains. Inside there are cosy sitting rooms, an honesty bar and billiard and card tables. Couples will hardly be able to tear themselves away to explore the nearest beaches (Soller), which are all within 30 minutes' driving. Highs Fabulous mountain and valley viewsRelaxing, peaceful and tranquil atmosphere with lots of pretty nooks for hiding awayA good-sized swimming pool set grounds, plus 150 hectare estate of orchards, trails and its own waterfallThe charming Colom family are incredibly welcomingDinner, a daily-changing menu of Mediterranean dishes, is exceptional Lows Off-the-beaten-track location (a high for some); hiring a car is a mustDon't expect a hectic nightlife - Orient is tiny but it does have a couple of other restaurants and a barIt gets booked up months in advance by returning guestsThe valley has its own microclimate: it can be cloudier in winter compared to the rest of the island, but thankfully slightly cooler in mid-summerYou’ll struggle to return to reality!" - Nikki Tinto

We were a party which was made up of three generations, from teenagers to grandparents. Everyone loved it. We visited during a sunny week in mid October for 5 days and found the Fina Son Palou to be the ideal place a significant birthday milestone. The location is stunning. The wonderful mountain views constantly changed throughout the day. The hotel itself has some interesting historic quirks (a giant olive press right in the middle). You definitely feel the history of the place. The rooms and beds were extremely comfortable. Good showers with plenty of hot water. Staff were wonderful, and not shy of making jokes and being friendly and agreeable. It is quite remote, and the roads to get there from Alaro or onwards to Soller aren't easy, but it's remoteness is a key attraction. Great food as well. Overall, a very good choice. We're already talking about returning next year, where we plan to do more walking, and maybe even rent some bicycles.

Beautiful hotel (a historic finca) with real Mallorcan charm in the beautiful and unspoilt location of Orient. The rooms are spacious, very clean and decorated with lovely antiques, many have a private patio garden. It’s a great base to explore the mountains in the north of the island, and then come back to dine at the hotel and enjoy the evening sunset and peaceful setting, after a refreshing swim in the pool. A lovely hotel for a romantic get away or a family to spend together time, a great base for hiking. The staff make it so special, we enjoyed dining there in the evening and the breakfast is very good with lots of options. A place you will want to come back to as you will leave a piece of your heart there!

We had a wonderful stay for a week in late October and everything exceeded our expectations. The hotel is in the most beautiful and peaceful valley where you can escape from the real world and relax. We booked a small double which was lovely with a very comfortable bed and everything we needed. The staff are all very kind and helpful and our half board stay was excellent. The hotel is remote and so having decided to stay on a half board basis we were not disappointed.

For the past 20 years, SON PALOU is a very special place to return to, again and again. The setting is breathtaking! Marc and staff always welcome us "home". They pour their hearts and souls into every detail: the service, the grounds, the rooms and fantastic food. We can't wait to return.
