"Fingal A 237-foot ship built in 1963, the Fingal is now a luxury floating hotel, docked a short walk from the Royal Yacht Britannia in the Port of Leith. Following a multimillion-dollar refurbishment, the converted boat—once used to service lighthouses—now features 23 sumptuous cabins complete with rain showers, heated floors, smart TVs, and maritime-inspired decor. Some come with private balconies or second levels, while the penthouse suite includes separate living and dining areas. Also on board are decks for stargazing and sipping champagne, an elegant ballroom with a grand staircase, and a panoramic restaurant and bar serving breakfast, afternoon tea, craft cocktails, and dinners of seasonal Scottish fare."

The New Floating 'Fingal' Hotel Is Now Open Next to the Royal Yacht 'Britannia' | Condé Nast Traveler

"The newly restored and entirely refit Fingal hotel makes its debut, with rooms starting at £300 ($383) a night (including a full Scottish breakfast). Each of its luxe cabins—all with porthole windows, eight with private balconies, and one a Presidential Suite featuring a deck big enough to host a cocktail party for 80—will have its own look. 'No cabin is the same because on the ship nothing is square, so every angle is completely different,' says Thomson. 'All the joinery and woodwork are bespoke.'"

I’m not really quite sure where to begin. A truly magical stay and Charlie (1 of their managers) knows why that is. My husband and I are so grateful that we returned to stay on Fingal. Our first stay was completely amazing, the elegant feel of this place is nothing like we’ve experienced before. We knew we would be back. |The food, the service and the friendly nature yet professional staff are second to none. This time was simply perfect. After speaking with Charlie who understood how important this trip was to myself and my husband, he made our stay truly remarkable, unforgettable and for that I thank him so much. The staff are all wonderful people. Friendly, informative, enthusiastic & always smiling.|To visit, eat on board or at will be an experience you’ll never forget. Go and book it…. Do it now… you will never regret it.

My friends and I had afternoon tea on Fingal. It was beautiful. The staff were lovely, so accommodating and kind. The food was yummy and the selection of teas were really interesting. I would definitely recommend this experience. It was also very interesting to see the rest of the boat.

We went to Scotland for a couple of weeks and stayed at The Fingal April 2,3 and 12 as we flew in and out of Edinburgh. We loved the Fingal so much we changed our reservation from another Hotel prior to our flight out on the 13th.|As hotel rooms go, it was a bit small but comfortably opulent. Everything had a nautical but tasteful elegance that is hard to describe. It also had one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in.||The best part was the service. We were considering eating at their restaurant for dinner and I had a question about a menu item. This was 3:30 or so in the afternoon. They called the chef, who confirmed the dish contained an herb that I was allergic to, and offered a custom alternative!||The only disappointing part was the view. We fantasized about being in a Harbor, overlooking the ocean. No such luck. Mostly more harbor, more ships and lots of buildings. ||You can look at the pictures of the place to see what appeals to you. What you can't see is the genuine interest the staff had in our questions, comfort and satisfaction. While the whole "ship as a hotel" thing was very cool, the staff was what made the Fingal a place that you would gladly cancel other reservations for. BTW, the food was incredibly expensive, but so worth it! (we ate there 3 times + high tea).

Fantastic stay option for 2 nights. 100m from the Port of Leith Tram Stop made access easy for airport and Edinburgh station (Haymarket option for Glasgow trains). Walking distance to Ocean terminal and the RY Brittania (complimentary entry for Fingal guests - had a nice afternoon cream tea on RYB). Port of Leith is much quieter than main city areas and has a lot of eating options and interesting walks (located adjacent to upmarket waterfront apartment areas with most amenities). Easy access to Edinburgh for tourist things - St Andrew Square tram stop right opposite hop on/off buses. The ship itself is a fantastic experience with excellent breakfasts. Dinner a bit pricier but worth at least one 'special' night (otherwise lot of alternate options nearby). Really enjoyed the last 2 nights of our 3 week British isles trip staying here.

5 out of 5 for a first class service from all staff we met. Everyone went out of their way to be helpful and to make the experience personalised and welcoming. |We dined in the Fingal restaurant where the food was absolutely excellent. The chef Andrea, was a credit to Fingal and I will return at some point for the dining experience alone. |Overall, a 5 star service for a 5 star establishment. Well done Fingal!

Stayed 1 evening in April 2025 in the Mull of Galloway room. Excellent service from the restaurant staff, very attentive and looked after us for the full evening.||However... ||The shower drainage didnt work properly so the whole bathroom floor flooded. Because the room is sloped, the water seeped through the wall and got onto the carpet next to the bed and my bag got drenched. Luckily it was mainly clothes that got wet but that wasnt a great start. When we raised this with reception, we were basically told 'well, its a boat, that will happen.' We were glad we only stayed one evening otherwise we would have kicked up more of a fuss.||We got lucky that it was a beautful evening and had drinks outside before going inside for the meal. There is a lot of glass so it was like a greenhouse and very uncomfortable. Here in Scotland there isnt a huge need for AC, but it was far too hot and nothing could be done to cool the restaurant down which again took away from the experience somewhat. |Just FYI the portion sizes are miniscule. I know that's the style of the hotel... but I was disappointed considering what it cost. It's hard to fully appreciate the quality of food when there's hardly any of it.||Overall the experience was a mixed bag. We know others who had a completely different experience but we wont be rushing back based on ours.

Absolutely amazing experience, thought it was expensive when booking but immediately realised upon arrival that every penny was money well spent. Every member of the staff/crew were amazing, dining was outstanding, never experienced anything like this before. As a former marine engineer the engine room was well worth a visit.|Would thoroughly recommend to anyone. Cannot fault this outstanding location.

Our second stay at the Fingal and it won’t be our last. Great atmosphere, staff attentive and friendly. Accommodation clean, well maintained and quirky, completely suits its nautical environment. Restaurant excellent for both evening meals and breakfast.
