8 Delicious, Weird Ice Cream Flavors to Try in Europe - AFAR

"A Rome gelateria makes a Zuppa Inglese–style ice cream that resembles the English-trifle–inspired dessert: a rich, very yellow custard-style gelato made with egg yolks and heavy cream, studded with bits of sponge cake and a dash of Alchermes liqueur; it’s decadent on its own or paired with raspberry or dark chocolate." - Chris Ciolli

Google
Italian's Gelatino in Roma with GLUTEN FREE FRIENDLY (Senza glutine) option for the whole ice cream next to the Pantheon. (1min in a walk) I recommand if you wanna take your best selfie in front of the Pantheon and eat your best icecream gluten free! Reception, Services & Environment : -Very fast, like every ice cream -The inside of the ristorante was small, you don't have a place to seat, just to take your dessert -The staff was really nice, very kind and helpful Prices : -In average, you could pay like 5€ per person for an ice cream Desserts -We took 2 ice cream and the Staff decorated our ice creams with two ice cone ears to make it look like Mickey Mouse -------------------------------------------- The whole desserts is gluten free friendly ! Plus bonus, you're next to the Pantheon to take your best pics with your ice cream.

Very delicious Gelato! It is good for any time of the day any day. Really loved the variety of flavours and nutrition facts about their products. All gluten-free.

We stopped for coffee and ice cream. I was really surprised at the ice cream. It was creamy and rich in taste. Really good. I ordered a cafe latte and it met my expectations. All in all, great place to have a break after a long day of walking. Look to spend between EUR2-6 each person.

Google

Google
Our second favorite gelato during our trip in Rome! Would definitely recommend the lemon and other fruit flavors on a hot day! Very close to the Pantheon.

Yelp
We didn't want the big chain in the area so we decided to check out Fiocco di Neve after the Pantheon. We were in need of some sugar, shade and snow and we thought this place could be the best spot for it. Walking in, there are a good amount of seats on the right hand side. It's not a lot and it's not the most comfortable but if you're trying to escape the sun with some gelato in your mouth, this is the place to be. The people working here are fast, friendly and efficient. There are a lot of locals that seem to come in for espresso. Good sign I think. I regret not ordering the affogato with the zabaione because I would have loved to try it but I can't have espresso after noon and I was hoooooottttttttt. I needed sorbet at the time. I'm quite impressed that the whole store is gluten free. The waffle we had on our gelato was delicious and only had a little bit of the mealy-ness you get from a lot of GF products. I would not say this was the best gelato I've ever had but the portions were big and the flavors were solid.

Yelp
Disclaimer: By no means am I a gelato expert. Nor did I maintain a proper control for comparison throughout. I tried a different flavor at each place because each had different offerings and specialties. That being said this was my 6th in my travels between Florence and Rome. I thought this place was one of the best. I had a cone with the Bacio and the Snickers. The Bacio was some variation of amazing hazelnut. The gelato was so creamy and flavorful. A hard decision as all of them looked fantastic. There were several places in this area. The place was small and there was a short line, but the gentleman was very fast!

Yelp
The best affogato I have ever had!!!! The gelato (don't remember the name of the flavor but it had an egg flavor that she recommended) was so creamy and the espresso had an excellent taste. Both meshed together so well. Highly recommend getting the affogato here!

Yelp
Completely Gluten Free everything... and still some of the best gelato in Rome. DGD the Elder, our GF girl was in heaven. The Chocolate was delicious ...my only problem was I kept ordering more than I could eat... I miss this wonderful ritual as we walked back to our hotel every evening after dinner in Italy.

Yelp
Excellent gelato in a very competitive neighborhood for gelato. I appreciate the gluten free approach, and you won't miss it. The fruit flavors -- mango and fruto di bosco in particular -- are terrific. A very good choice, very friendly servers, and a bright clean space.

Yelp
One of my usual spots to hit up when I was near the Pantheon and Piazza della Rotonda. They have a great variety of gelato flavors but I'm always there for their affogato alla zabaione (eggnog). The espresso blends perfectly with the sweet cream and it's one of my go-to's rain or shine. I also really enjoyed their coconut, pistachio, passion fruit, and nocciola (hazelnut) - but I'm sure every flavor they serve is top notch! It's intimate and has a few seats as well as WiFi.

Yelp
This Top 5 Gelato place is located on a side street just a few mins walk up from the Pantheon and not only did it it have a place for us to sit and take a breather, but even more critically - it had a loo with a seat cover y'all! My mum and I got a bit greedy when we saw all the available gelato options and ended up getting 5 flavours: Mango - absolutely fruit and delicious, recommend Yogurt - was pretty decent Pistachio - not as good as the mango! Dark Chocolate - holy moly! Absolutely fantastic if u are a chocolate fan Hazelnut - ties with the yogurt as was decent, but not my fave. Am surprised at the low reviews, cause overall, this place left a good impression on me! Yelp 289/ 2018

Yelp
OMG!!!! Everything is GF including the cones!!! I had the tiramisu gelato with the pistachio cone. I was instantly transported to a field of unicorns & rainbows. It's seriously THAT amazing!!!

Yelp
Came to this small coffee shop/gelateria solely for the zabaione affogato which was delicious and refreshing. Make your way to the back of the shop past the gelato area to order the affogato. It's a nice change from the traditional way of consuming gelato and totally worth it. There aren't that many tables or chairs inside, so you may have to find a bench outside to sit and enjoy your dessert.

Yelp
The entire place offers gluten free gelato, cones, and cookies. However, if you weren't gluten free and looking for that, you would never know it and it would still be an out-of-this-world, 5-star gelato experience. If you like mint chocolate, you MUST order it here. It is the mintiest, most authentically mintalicious flavor we've ever had in a dessert. Wow. Totally strong (like, clear-your-sinuses strong) and amazing. I've had gelato all over Italy and this place is easily in the top three. Every flavor was perfectly creamy and blended. We came here at least four times while in Rome. Run, don't walk.

Yelp
Incredible can't say enough good things about this place. The cones were the best I've ever had an gluten free to boot. Enjoy!

Yelp
Gluten free cones and all natural gelato! They also give you very large scoops. If you want homemade whip cream to top it off, just ask and they will give you a dollop.

Yelp
Our tour guide told us this is the place she takes her kids for gelato. She's a born and raised Italian. Glad we listened to her as we loved this place! Cheapest of the gelato places we've eaten at - 2 euros for a cone w/2 flavors! The Zabaione is quiet popular and like another yelper said, eggy and boozy. Will be coming back here for the rest of our stay in Rome. Better than San Crispino imo.

Yelp
A small ice cream place just in front of the Pantheon and with a lot of competion within the block, but that defends itself with quality ice creams. Be sure to try the zabaione flavor, my favorite.

Yelp
This place is a mixed bag. I heard good things about their Zabaione flavor, and rightly so. The zabaione is an eggy, boozy, delicious frozen treat which knocks the socks of everyone else's attempt at this flavor. The rest of the gelato is ho hum boring and not worth it. I went two scoops with two flavors and was so disappointed at first until I dug into the Zabaione. I'd really recommend this place but realize it's a one-trick pony. It's a great trick, but don't expect anything else.

Yelp
There are many good gelato places in Rome. This one is the best! More flavors than most shops. Excellent gelato! Excellent coffee. Excellent service. Family run. Cleanest bathrooms. Even has charging stations for your phone. This gelato shop is a not to miss. We came more than once in our week here. We will be back next trip!
