Fiordland Cinema

I went Here as it was a rainy day and there was nothing else we could do outdoors while our glow worm tours canceled. The movie they play is usually available on fjordland cruises. So this was a complete waste of time and money. And the movies doesn't really hVe enough details about the geology/wildlife or ecosystem i would have liked. The movie did not add to my fjordland experience. Avoid unless you really wanna burn 10nzd per person and have nothing better to do. I did not try the drinks or food. But they have a pretty nice casual vibe

A small cinema showing a scenic film with amazing scenery of the Fiordland every hour on the hour. It's a small theatre with about 80 big soft seats in the heart of the town. During the day they show a 35-minute program showing highlight of the beautiful scenery found in The fiordland. The movie is sort of like the imax movies with amazing scenery shot from helicopters and set to music. The cost is only NZ$10 and its a nice way to see what the area looks like throughout the various seasons of the year. We popped in for the 10 am showing about 2-minutes to 10 and had no problem gettin in. In the evenings at 8 pm you can watch regular Hollywood features her too. A nice place.

This Cinema is quaint and we loved the bar on the side where we enjoyed some wonderful appetizers laid out on specially carved wood boards. They show special films and also regular shows I noticed. We were there to see Shadowland. I would highly recommend the stunning 30 minute short film "Ata Whenua - Shadowland" if you would enjoy a beautiful helicopter ride for $10 through some of the most awe inspiring landscapes on earth - it covers the Fiordland National Park, Milford Sound and other beautiful sites in New Zealand . The film has no narration but has beautiful music as your fly over the mountains, along the rivers and through the water Sounds to view spectacular scenery that most people will NEVER see. Sit back and just enjoy the view. Several people in our group bought the DVD to take home to share with friends.

I was really excited to see Fiordland on Film, I had heard it was a "must see" if you like nature films. I do and I was looking forward to learning more about the area I'm visiting. Unfortunately it is a definite miss - $10 and a 1/2 hour of my time wasted. The film has zero narration, so it isn't even educational and a significant percentage of the footage is out of focus. Ultimately the film is just an advertisement for a helicopter company.
