"A retreat fringed by swaying tussock grass on the edge of Lake Te Anau, Fiordland Lodge is the luxury choice for travelers visiting Fiordland National Park on the South Island. The lodge was designed to magnify the inspiring local environment; that means 36-foot tree trunks for beams in the main lodge, a floor-to-ceiling fireplace laid with river stones, and glass walls that frame Lake Te Anau and the oft snow-capped peaks of Mount Murchison and Kepler Track. The palette is neutral and understated, always putting the emphasis on the exceptional natural beauty of the area. Themain lodge and two private cabins feel like a world unto themselves—a beautiful, comfortable, and relaxing world that is at the gateway to the Milford and Doubtful sounds and all the other Fiordland National Park wonders."

Stunning setting and lovely staff who go out of their way to make it a memorable experience. Highlight was the log fire, comfy beds and a helicopter to the Kepler track (complete with a packed lunch from the chefs). 100% recommend

Stunning setting and wonderful staff who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Enjoyed a rainy day by the fire with good food and drinks, then a heli hike the next day when the sun came out. 100% recommend this place.

The Fiordland Lodge was our final stay on our honeymoon and it was the perfect end to a perfect trip. The room was cozy with a fantastic view and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We also highly recommend having dinner here as well, all the meals were delicious.

Stayed here for four nights in February for our 30th Anniversary. We were blown away with how great it was. The setting is beautiful, with views over the lake to the mountains. Hospitality was warm and friendly. Food was excellent with enough variety to keep us happy over all four days. We really appreciated that they would do early breakfasts on a couple of the days we had early starts to go to Milford or Doubtful. Hot tub and games room were fun. Truly one of our favorite hotel experiences anywhere.

The Fiordland Lodge was out of this world. The beauty of the location made it so special. The staff were excellent and made every effort to make the stay as stress free as possible. The food was delicious and beautifully presented each day. The entire experience was just outstanding! The hot tubs were such a treat too, cannot rate this location highly enough!

As a party of four, we found the Fiordland Lodge's Lake House extremely underwhelming. Located in a residential area of Te Anau, it was anything but private and secluded. There was a public walkway alongside the property as well as another in front but further away allowing people to look directly into the house, people were camping on the block next door to one side and there were caravans and dumped cars on the other. The views looking out from the house were stunning but negated by the cheap fit-out of the property, including hitting one's head on the ceiling when men stood up from the upstairs toilet, flimsy towels, no hairdryer downstairs, the bedrooms were very basic and lacked a chair to sit on, room service was poor and the breakfast provisions were appalling and inadequate. The Fiordland Lodge was unavailable on our dates and we were led to believe that the Lake House was a luxury retreat. We found it anything but.

We loved our two-night stay at the lodge and were sad to leave our stunning perch overlooking the lake and mountains and starry sky. With just 12 guest room, this property felt like a small luxury lodge for family gatherings (we arrived after four days at the larger and grander Blanket Bay Lodge). Service was relaxed and personalized, with most guests coming or going on some mountain adventure. Rooms were comfortable with lovely patios and nice amenities. Manager Andy was chill and accommodating (even arranging complimentary laundry service), and we loved getting to know outdoorsy waitstaff duo Jazzy and Jimmy. They recommended several hikes between the lodge and Milford Sound. We ended up leaving the hotel at 8 am in our own vehicle, getting to Milford at about 10, taking a 10:45 cruise before the Queenstown tour arrivals, then hiking to beautiful Lake Marian in the afternoon. It would have worked well to hike first and take the 2:45 cruise, but I think we would have had a more crowded experience in the fjord. Come prepared to swim in the refreshing, crystal clear water of Lake Marian after a short but fairly steep and rocky hike up!
