I came to Little Rock for the 4th of July Pops on the River, fireworks event. I had been to it about 5 years ago with my daughter and had fond memories of the event. It was everything I remembered, very family friendly, a very diverse crowd and like the last time, I did not see any heavy drinking, during the event.
I wanted to be, a walking distance from downtown, to not have to deal with the event parking, so I chose the Firehouse Hostel & Museum. I stayed for 2 nights and although I was sleeping in a men's room with 14 beds, only 4 of the beds were taken during my stay, with 2 being the hostel volunteers. They also offer a woman's room, as well as a coed room and even a private room.
Keith, the senior volunteer, was super nice and very knowledgeable about the history of the area. They even walked a group of us to the fireworks show. The breakfast is a light continental version, with plenty of coffee and full access to their kitchen, refrigerator and ice machine, if you should choose to fix your own meals.
Even though I am 6'2" tall, I still was able to fit on the bunk bed and it was more comfortable than I expected. The entire place was immaculately clean, including the kitchen and bathrooms.
The price was unbeatable and this being my first stay in a hostel, I really enjoyed getting to know the staff as well as other guests. Everyone has a unique life story, which helps bring mine, back into perspective.
I will be staying here again!
