What a great experience! My husband and I stayed for a few nights in room #5 Big Blue, and it was great. The staff were all fantastic, The room/bed was comfortable, and had extras like a kitchenette with plates, utensils, microwave and mini fridge. The grounds itself had great amenities. Plus the lodge is only ten rooms, so you can pretty much park outside your room. The area is just on the edge of the national forest, so you have close access to the bike trail and it is a very quiet area. Pet friendly place! ( Note, that the owners/staff have pets that are around during the day in the common areas, if that's a concern for you!)
Staff were great, and I was appreciative of the tour of the facility when we arrived. It was like staying with a friend and having them introduce you to the in's and out's of their home. We didn't participate in all of the amenities, but we did have breakfast on site one morning (As of mid august 2021, they were signing folks up for breakfast times and serving, to observe social distancing spacing, which is appreciated.), and one evening we came out and played corn hole and enjoyed an adult beverage and relaxed on the benches. My husband also had a go at some of the arcade games, which he was very excited about!
The room itself was a great size and had great decorations. I loved the sitting table in the room (1 table, 2 chairs), and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was smaller, and the sink didn't have a huge counter space, but with the table and the kitchenette we made the space work. I loved the little details of this place, included a brown hand towel to wipe your face/makeup. The one downside of the room, but honestly not enough to take away stars, was that there was no AC unit. Which, for us being from the central valley is pretty standard, but if you keep the windows open at night, you will get a nice breeze!
The location, as mentioned earlier is on the edge of the national forest. I loved being so close to the bike/running trail. I got my morning run in early, and just followed the trail out. You are just a few minutes drive from Pope Beach, Emerald Bay, and downtown South Lake Tahoe. Being at the state line, you can easily cross over to Nevada to go to Hard Rock Casino or Harrah's, but there are plenty of restaurants and night life on the California side too.
Thank you Steve and Tracy for a great stay, we can't wait to come back. We left just before the fires started getting pretty bad up that way, and we are praying you all are safe throughout this very scary time.
