I'm glad to see Firetrucker is doing so well for itself. Not only do they brew some of their own awesome beers, but the brewery itself is pretty awesome. New, modern, and clean with a good selection, lots of seating, and laid-back staff, it was a lovely experience to drink here - and we'll definitely be coming back.
PROS:
-Very chill atmosphere. Nobody seems in a particular hurry, and the staff seems pretty comfortable and okay with their jobs. Nobody seems stressed about pouring drinks, so it might lead to little bit longer of a wait time, but I'm just more happy to be in a comfortable, fun atmosphere.
-Flights are super affordable. $6 for four pours? Hell yeah.
-Well put-together. It's clear that Firetrucker is doing well for itself. Most of the seating is new, the building is well-painted and taken care of, the bathrooms are clean and modern, and there is some beautiful seating and lighting in the main bar area. They have digital versions of the beer menus that are right by the bar, and they update instantly - as in, they tapped out a beer type while I was there, and it was instantly replaced with its replacement as soon as the keg was changed.
-Tons of seating. Prefer louder? There are bar stools and tables near the bar area. Like softer? There are booths, couches, chairs, and tables a bit further away from the bustle of the bar area. There isn't table service, though, so get your lazy butt up and bring drinks back to the table as you need it.
-Music isn't ridiculously loud. It's louder in the bar area than the area further away from the bar. It's loud enough to cover up some of the other conversations in the bar without feeling like I had any problem talking to the person (at regular speaking voice) across the booth from me.
-Has board games. You can borrow one of their board games if you're in the mood to drink and play.
-Bathrooms are clean and shiny. Absolutely no complaints here - they look closer to restaurant bathrooms than brewery/bar bathrooms. The women's room had two stalls even! Less worrying about a line.
-Open on Tuesday. This was one of the few breweries in Central Iowa open on the Tuesday that we were looking to hit it up.
-Standard beers AND less-standard beers. You can find some pretty standard, drinkable options, and if you're looking for more weird/experimental beers, they have those too. They also have some non-beers (ciders, etc.) as well as guest pours from other Iowa breweries. I think they had 15-ish options for different beers on tap.
CONS:
-Nothing!
