Very cool place. Great branding everywhere and some really cool stickers! I had the Cloud City IPA. Tart and a bit fruity it's a hazy IPA with medium hoppiness but easy and drinkable. I crushed that one pretty easy. Time for some good food at another place. Eating in DSM for the next few weeks so keep a look out for me at your restaurant.

Google
Great brewery! The staff are all super friendly (even after I dropped a full growler on their clean floor). I took home their Golden, Brown and Red ales. All are delicious!! Great atmosphere! Thanks Firetrucker!!

Google
Absolutely beautiful and the staff treated us so well. We came here to celebrate our anniversary. We are huge fans of this perfect brewery. The bathrooms were so clean, the structure is gorgeous. Thank you Firetrucker for such a great time. 10 stars hands down. Everyone much experience this great atmosphere.

Google
Staff was friendly and personable. Enjoyed our craft beers while watching NLCS. Bartenders encouraged buy food nextdoor and bring it over. Saw other tables bring in pizza. Staff allowed to taste test/sample beers before buying. Definitely go back next time.in Ankeny.

Google
We had a great experience here! So glad we stopped while in town for work. Cool vibes, nice people and great beer.

Andrew Smith

Google
Their acoustics are a bit rough so if you have sensitive ears it might put you off. My favorite drink is the Cat Dragon. It packs quite a punch, and if you like ginger beers I suggest you try it. Sorry if it ruins all other ginger beers for you.

Google
A staple in Ankeny! One of my favorite places. I'm happy to drive from Waukee to enjoy new taps and their awesome atmosphere. If you haven't been here, give them a try.

Google
Such a cute and awesome place!! DELICIOUS, unique beers, spacious lounge area with games to play. Helpful, friendly staff, fascinating artwork throughout the bar, clean bathrooms. Can't wait to come back!

Stephanie P.

Yelp
It is a full sure ice brewery. It has great inside and outside space. The people we met there were outstanding. It was a total zoo on the day we went. They had Cousins Lobster Truck there and they at times had a 2 hour wait. But they were able to keep up with the drinks! It was quite impressive! Good job!

Emily B.

Yelp
Great place for live music! Smaller patio but still good size. Picnic tables. Looks like you could maybe bring your own chairs. A few snacks sold inside. Huge beer menu. We had Jell-O shots on the 4th! Very friendly staff! Would definitely go back & recommend . Check it out!

Ryan S.

Yelp
This review is more for a FYI. Fire trucker uses hand held devices so when you check out you see total and not the detailed bill. For some reason the bill seemed high for 2 beers and 2 4-packs so I requested the receipt to be sent to my email. After reviewing the receipt I was charged an additional $4 for each 4-pack making each one $16. I brought it to the attention of the bartender and he did give me back $8 but did not give me an explanation of the extra charge. You may want to review your bill before leaving. Normally I do not request a receipt but may start going forward. I was back for the holiday weekend from Illinois to visit family and will for sure double check my bill next time I stop here. It may have been a honest mistake as well but without an explanation it's hard to say.

Yelp
Love Firetrucker. Tropical Burn is our favorite, but I can only have one because the hops punch you in the face (in a good way). They're a great place to meet up with friends, have a date, play a board game, etc. Highly recommend!

Jillissa M.

Yelp
Place is a lot smaller than I expected. Staff was friendly and they had games to play while you relaxed. Problem is that I've never found a firetrucker brew that I liked... not sure why but their brews just don't do it for me.

Heather T.

Yelp
We were visiting family in Iowa and my cousin's husband threw out a brewery suggestion. This place was packed on a Saturday with a live band and great weather on our side. My cousin and I tried a sampler which is my absolute favorite way to try a new brewery. Most of the options I went with were really good except the ginger beer was a bit on the strong side for my tastes. We watched a rocking game of cornhole/bag toss and enjoyed the sun and patio space.

JD B.

Yelp
Just arrived and been waiting for 10mins not even acknowledged. Not busy at all and seemed to help everyone but me. Haven't been here in 2yrs and now I remember why.

Nick S.

Yelp
They do it right here. Always good service, great beer selection, and huge patio facing sunset! They partner with local restaurants/food trucks for dinner options as well. Definitely recommend!!

Marianne H.

Yelp
Date night and live music drew us in for our date night. We arrived and since it was our first time we were not sure what to do. We didn't realize you needed to order at the bar. Once we figured that out, we were good to go. Brewery was very nice set up. We tried a two flights to get a good feeling of what we would like. Fun place. We will come back

Bri F.

Yelp
So I was at Applebee's last week and saw a poster for a beer they have on tap from Firetrucker! Decided 20 minutes was close enough to where I live to go check it out myself. As someone who's drink of choice is a Moscow mule, the copper cat did not disappoint! I had the low alcoholic ginger beer with lime & it gave me the Moscow mule fix I wanted and a 16 oz. for only $5.25! I can't wait to go back and try some of their other beers on tap. Fun atmosphere to bring your friends and play games!

Hannah G.

Yelp
Great atmosphere with some super friendly bartenders. I've never been to a brewery with hard ginger beer on tap, and I really enjoyed trying them! Would visit again when we're in the area.

Kacy F.

Yelp
Had an uncomfortable experience here over the 4th of July. Our group ordered a few mules (which were delicious) but we noticed our friends we're treated differently than us by a bartender. Same bartender within minutes treated my SO and I kindly and didn't hold ID for our mules, but treated our friends quite rudely and asked to hold ID for the cup to be returned almost accusingly. No differences other than that we were white. We were so uncomfortable we finished drinks and left. Usually we enjoy this place so we'll give 2 stars and hope that this was an isolated incident that can be looked into.

Angie M.

Yelp
Normally I am not a huge brewery fan. BUT... This place is amazing! It is in an old fire station and still has a lot of the decor. Totally remodeled now has a great atmosphere. Outside they have a patio with fire pits and lights. Very cozy! So let's get to the beer. I love the ginger beer! They have 2 types. One is 13% alcohol! I like the 6%. They also have a tropical beer that is light and fruity. They have bike events and food truck events. If your hungry many of the local restaurants deliver. Great place to chill with friends!

Kayla B.

Yelp
I'm glad to see Firetrucker is doing so well for itself. Not only do they brew some of their own awesome beers, but the brewery itself is pretty awesome. New, modern, and clean with a good selection, lots of seating, and laid-back staff, it was a lovely experience to drink here - and we'll definitely be coming back. PROS: -Very chill atmosphere. Nobody seems in a particular hurry, and the staff seems pretty comfortable and okay with their jobs. Nobody seems stressed about pouring drinks, so it might lead to little bit longer of a wait time, but I'm just more happy to be in a comfortable, fun atmosphere. -Flights are super affordable. $6 for four pours? Hell yeah. -Well put-together. It's clear that Firetrucker is doing well for itself. Most of the seating is new, the building is well-painted and taken care of, the bathrooms are clean and modern, and there is some beautiful seating and lighting in the main bar area. They have digital versions of the beer menus that are right by the bar, and they update instantly - as in, they tapped out a beer type while I was there, and it was instantly replaced with its replacement as soon as the keg was changed. -Tons of seating. Prefer louder? There are bar stools and tables near the bar area. Like softer? There are booths, couches, chairs, and tables a bit further away from the bustle of the bar area. There isn't table service, though, so get your lazy butt up and bring drinks back to the table as you need it. -Music isn't ridiculously loud. It's louder in the bar area than the area further away from the bar. It's loud enough to cover up some of the other conversations in the bar without feeling like I had any problem talking to the person (at regular speaking voice) across the booth from me. -Has board games. You can borrow one of their board games if you're in the mood to drink and play. -Bathrooms are clean and shiny. Absolutely no complaints here - they look closer to restaurant bathrooms than brewery/bar bathrooms. The women's room had two stalls even! Less worrying about a line. -Open on Tuesday. This was one of the few breweries in Central Iowa open on the Tuesday that we were looking to hit it up. -Standard beers AND less-standard beers. You can find some pretty standard, drinkable options, and if you're looking for more weird/experimental beers, they have those too. They also have some non-beers (ciders, etc.) as well as guest pours from other Iowa breweries. I think they had 15-ish options for different beers on tap. CONS: -Nothing!

Yelp
On the strength of a strong review in Juice (the social magazine of the Des Moines Register), Gayle, the Kid and I made the trip to Ankeny to try out Firetrucker Brewery. This place was a little hard to find, and a little out of the way (even for downtown Ankeny). Yet, our journey was well rewarded. This is a very handsome taproom (in an old Fire House?) and the micro brews that we enjoyed were really tasty. There's a main bar area, a separate seating area, and all the brew equipment behind the glass. Wi-Fi was strong, plug ins were plentiful, and the Curbin' Cuisine food truck was handily outside to help wash down the suds. We also enjoyed the wall art and had some nice conversations with an LSU Alumni group that had gathered near out door knob table. There's also a nice patio outside. We had a great time and hope to repeat this experience soon.

Liz H.

Yelp
Super cool venue that serves amazing Ginger Beer! I've never had ginger beer, but it was definitely tasty and my fave from tonight's flight. Love the social seating setup both indoors and outdoors. Prices are affordable and the vibe is on point! Cheers to another round!

Rachel W.

Yelp
There's a nice patio area with shade to enjoy. The inside is also nice with air purifiers to boot! The beer is just not good. I had a Hazy IPA that was not a hazy. I drank half. The S/O tried another one and that tasted like vegetables.

Lori C.

Yelp
Interesting place. Neat surroundings with lots of beer choices. Friendly staff and very helpful. The beer was good and the staff was friendly and helpful. Only bad thing was parking isn't the greatest. Small lot that you have to back out onto the street with. Worth the parking hassle though

Kristyn M.

Yelp
Who doesn't enjoy local beer with a great place to kick back and enjoy either a little TV or maybe even a few board games? We stopped for a visit for a friends birthday celebration. They really like beer and were all very happy with the options that the brewery had. I got to try a couple even though I am not a big beer drinker. We had our drinks outside and chatted for a long time. The atmosphere of the brewery was great and I would highly recommend stopping if you have the chance. Wish i knew more about beer so I could share more about it all. We even found out that the local beer tours stops in there so make sure that you get in this stop with our without the tour.

Shelby C.

Yelp
Awesome beer, something for everyone. They brew their own but also feature other local breweries. They often have events here. You can get growler fills and apparel here as well. Its at the end of the high trestle trail so lots of bikers come here in the summer. I love sitting outside here especially since a lot of people bring their dogs.

Mal F.

Yelp
Really cool atmosphere with good beer. I'm not usually a dark beer drinker, but was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the Molé Grail (Imperial Oatmeal Stout). Also tried the Cloud City IPA- decent but not quite as good as the Molé. Seems like a great local spot, would recommend.

Mike Z.

Yelp
I love when Firetrucker brings in Tacos or Leaning Tower pizza. I have rounded up several groups to head here and they've always tolerated us. That says a lot. Great beer, awesome venue, friendly staff. 10/10 will be back again.

Genevieve W.

Yelp
I love to support local businesses!! Especially when the product is made in house and you can see it being made right behind the bar. Staff is super friendly and beers are good! There are plenty of unique flavors ranging from light, to fruity, to dark. They also have a good range of seasonal offerings. The atmosphere here is awesome!! Local artwork decorating the walls, which changes out here and there, right now it's made out of bike parts. They also have an awesome selection of board games to play while having a leisurely drink. I can't wait to check out the patio in the summer! It's an awesome area right in the middle of Uptown Ankeny! Their indoor seating ranges from booths, to high tables, couches, to traditional at the bar seating. Pretty much an option for anyone! The staff is fantastic and super friendly! If you need a recommendation they will point you in the right way! This will definitely be a do over! So glad to have a local brewery in the Ankeny area!

Patrick T.

Yelp
Let's talk summer, what do you want to do... I say ride bikes to a brewery! Ok but what happens if you get a little tipsy and you get a flat... Well Firetrucker has a little bike shop in the brewery so yes not only do they save your night with great beer but they help get you home safe! Yes I have been drinking Firetrucker since it came out a few years back! The Vaudeville Mews has had it on tap for awhile! But this is my first visit to the actual local and man it's big and beautiful! Super modern and fun, with a huge Millennium Falcon (Star Wars) hanging above the bar! In other words I felt right at home! Tons of parking, great patio, and tons of delicious beers on tap.. You can't really go wrong here! Every beer I tried was amazing. The staff is super fun, and helpful in suggesting the right brew, they will also give you a sample of anything you want! They sometimes have live music, and if you can snag a tour of the behind the scenes action take it, it's super informative and fun! I love, love, love this spot! Ankeny you got lucky on this one, I wish It was closer to Des Moines... but worth the drive for sure!

Frank W.

Yelp
Phenomenal beer - it's the classic brewing facility with seating. Of course there are more beers on site than are available in stores. Live bands in there really get things going - and the outside seating is tremendous. practically on the bike trail as well......lots to love - highly recommend.

Nam K.

Yelp
It's a cool place. I like their core beers. My fav is the porter. It's creamy, yet not flat. I hate flat beer. I like the food trucks too. We had Hal and Al's caterer last Friday. Their prices are comparable to other local breweries. I wish they'd extent their happy hour deal (Currently only Friday and Sunday afternoons). City of Ankeny started construction in the north entrance to the brewery, so parking is a pain. There's plenty of parking on Third St so you'll be alright. Stop in for a beer (or more) and support the local business. (Don't leave your credit card behind. They add 20% to your bill. It happened to me last Friday. Ha)

Mike D.

Yelp
This place is on fire! No seriously....someone put it out. Before knowing anything about this place I had a feeling I knew where it would be. Where better than an old fire station? This place is awesome and the beer is even better. You can't miss it, they have the garage door all painted with their name on it and...well...it's a fire station. The inside has about 1/4 taken up by an almost separate room with comfy chairs and tables, there was even some acoustic guy playing here when we left. The other 3/4 is the bar, some taller tables and seats, and the brewery itself. They also have a great looking patio out back! The girls working here were awesome and joked around with us and everyone else in the bar. They made it a really fun experience. They offer a flight of all 11 beers they offer so I couldn't pass that up. WOW these guys make awesome beer. Some really unique stuff and everything is related to fire fighting in some way! I really enjoyed my stop here and the theme of this brewery. It will only keep getting better.

Karrie T.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to chill and hang out! Nice variety of craft beers and they also offer "guest" beers and Moscow mules, etc, in case you're not fond of the ones they offer. But with the several flavors they offer, I'll bet you'll find one you like. Just ask for a sample and they are happy to help you find a beer you like. The location is great, just off the bike path and right off a main road. Plenty of parking. Great atmosphere! The building is an old fire station, hence the name Firetrucker. They have live music often and even food trucks that park nearby in case you're hungry. The patio area is great! Nice place to hang with friends, and if you like playing bags, they have a giant bags board. For a chill, relaxing time, check this place out!

Amy N.

Yelp
My wife and I were visiting from Denver, CO for the holidays and needed to get out for awhile. We stumbled upon Firetrucker after dinner and had an awesome experience. Very knowledgeable guy tending bar gave us a great flight and some local recs. Really unique ginger beers and their coffee stout was on point. Great place!

Cody M.

Yelp
I do enjoy this brewery. I like the look and feel inside. I've always had good service here. I really enjoy most of the beer brewed here and I really enjoy being able to buy it in cans at Hy-Vee and Fareway. I like hearing some live music and on a couple days a week the usually do have this to enjoy.

John A.

Yelp
Great beer here, but not so sure about the service. Had a hard time getting my first beer, and the second took awhile too. No food here, and the taco truck stopped at 7:30, so ran to the local pizza spot. They are bike friendly which makes me give them another star. Recommend the 2 Alarm Red beer. Probably worth the drive if you are in Des Moines.

Jennifer P.

Yelp
It's really not my sort of atmosphere. We show up on are mortorcycles and everyone else is on their bikes with their spandex shorts. They do have solid beers though.

Erika H.

Yelp
Stopped by on a mid Friday afternoon. We hadn't had lunch yet so walked over to I believe Lighthouse Pizza. We had called it in so it was ready when we arrived. Then back to Firetrucker. It was an active place for 2pm and a gorgeous day. Service was good and atmosphere was great! The place was clean and the beer I had was also nice. They do also keep a few other local breweries on tap. Downside is no food but they do allow you to bring it in. They also have games inside maybe for a rainy day, day drinking kind of day. Cheers!

Jason S.

Yelp
First, Firetrucker is the COOLEST brewery in the Des Moines area. 1) It's in an old firehouse - AWESOME! 2) The decor and art is amazing (one of the owners is an artist so...)! This place is worth a visit simply to SEE. And while you're there you might as well have a beer! Like several other breweries in the area (Confluence, 515), Firetrucker caters to the cyclist (right at the start/end of the High Trestle Trail). They have a nice, large patio for the warmer months and a cozy taproom for the cooler months. Firetrucker has done a GREAT job of bringing in a wide variety of local musicians to play almost every single Friday and Saturday night. I haven't even gotten to the beer! Firetrucker might be most famous for their super-clear (like water) Cat in the Tree Ginger Beer. It's tasty and very refreshing! Firetrucker's beers are all top-notch. I usually lean towards their seasonals (Black Walnut Ale or Tropical Burn IPA), all of which have great accompanying artwork. This place is a great experience from start to finish!

Stephanie M.

Yelp
In Ankeny for work and sought out local breweries and establishments. Even though it was busy, we were able to find a spot at the bar. Great atmosphere and lovely selections of beers. Bartenders never stopped moving, they had everything totally under control. Is highly recommend this place.

Caroline M.

Yelp
Fabulous! I love how they turned an old fire house into a brewery & tap room. I adore the industrial feel, big windows, spacious seating areas, and their IPA! The beer menus are displayed on huge TV screens so it's very clear and easy to read. I recommend ordering a pizza and bringing it in, which they suggested. Highly recommend for any craft beer lover!

Donald Y.

Yelp
This is the metro's newest brewery but with as fast as new ones keep popping up probably won't be the newest for long. I heard the owner of El Bait Shop talking about them on the radio and I decided to head on up when I had the chance. Compared to other brewery taprooms in town I would say Firetrucker is a combo between Confluence and 515 Brewery. It has a comfy, homey type atmosphere in part of the taproom as it has some couches and tables but the bar area is more industrial and you can see the brewing kettles and equipment much like confluence. The rail itself is really nice and the whole bar fixture is lighted with LEDs. Pretty slick. They did have a few TVs and at the time of my visit there was a decent amount of people there watching the World Cup finals. At the time of my visit on Sunday they were offering four of their own beers plus three guest taps. They had a lager, red, brown, and ginger beer as their four beers on tap. I went ahead and ordered the flight and tried them all. The lager was so-so. Pretty much their most comparable to a Bud for the less adventurous type. The red was decent but tasted like it was missing something. The brown was excellent and had a great roasted flavor, that is the beer that stood out to me. Last was the ginger beer, which I thought was kind of weird to have on a flight. It was OK for what it was but not my thing. I'm not sure if that is a regular brew but if it is I wonder if they will add vodka behind the bar and start serving their own Moscow Mules. Prices were comparable to any other brewery/taproom around here. They also have growlers and half growlers available as well as some T-shirts and other merchandise. Firetrucker is another great addition to the craft brew scene here in the Des Moines area. If not from Ankeny I would recommend taking the drive up to check them out.

Karen S.

Yelp
Wonderful taproom and excellent beers! Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. THere was a grilled cheese food truck with great sandwiches, and I went up the street to pick up a pizza from Leaning Tower. Appreciated that the taproom had a stack of paper plates/napkins/silverware for outside food. We have family in Ankeny, and this will for sure be a regular stop on our visits! As a new mom who also likes beer, I wish there was a changing table in the ladies room. I realize this is a pretty ridiculous request for a taproom, but there were a decent number of well-behaved kiddos there (mine included) on an early Saturday night.

Victoria Z.

Yelp
Very disappointing service and experience. I went to Firetrucker with my wife and friends for the 4th. Four people in our party separately ordered Moscow mules to the same bartender. The bartender was somewhat pleasant to three of the members but was very rude to me while I ordered. She also asked that I give her my ID to hold as collateral for the mule cup. She did not ask any of my friends who ordered immediately before or after me. The only difference between my friends and me is our race. While this disparate treatment may have been unintentional it truly dampened everyone's experience when we became aware of it. As people of color my wife and I feel uncomfortable returning at this point. I hope firetrucker takes this opportunity to address implicit bias concerns amongst its staff.

Linnae C.

Yelp
Visited from Minnesota. Excellent beer and a few surprises. Loved the Pumper Truck Porter and the Burnout Brown. The Cat Dragon Ginger Beer was excellent but be careful. It has some kick. Our taproom maiden, Devon, was such a nice server. Made the experience even better. Firetrucker is tucked away but SO WORTH the journey.

Jeff B.

Yelp
Great local craft brewery with local appeal. Attention to quality. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about craft beer. No kitchen, but food is available from local food trucks and delivery. Huge beer garden/patio. Caters to bicyclists, but all are welcomed. Rotating artists have artwork hanging inside and for sale. Beautiful and huge bar top. RECOMMENDED!

Bruce S.

Yelp
Great atmosphere to have a good beer. Nice place to get a taste of local craft beer. Outside area for when the weather is nice.

Emily T.

Yelp
I visited this place a couple weeks back for a group tour and tasting. The story of the building and the background of the owners makes this brewery appealing. Especially the women's restroom - hellllo ladies, this is one nice restroom. All the amenities without someone in there trying to collect a tip (if you have ever been to a club that does this annoying thing) - anywho - back to the visit. They had a nice selection of beers, plus some guest beers that they rotate and that particular day they had a list of events with live music and Melts Without Borders selling their amazing grilled cheese. I was told from regulars that they do not sell food, but you can call nearby restaurants to deliver you some food while you sample the beers. They have a great indoor and outdoor space to spend a few hours catching up with friends. These guys definitely take pride in crafting their beers.

Mark S.

Yelp
This place is pretty cool for a local brewery and hats off the the brewers as they are doing it right...even though living in Ankeny today was my first visit and feel bad about that but have had their product at events and in tall boy form. The place is putting out great beer, love the feel of the place and love to support a home town local business. Even bought a shirt to show my support as the sales rep is a very cool and smart business asset. So why the three stars? Well it only takes one employee to turn you that direction and I was having a great experience from the staff that was serving me but I tried to talk to another staff member sitting at the bar and got the cold shoulder, attitude like I was just a first time client that she could care less about...gave me a uneasy feel in such a cool place so I paid my bill including shirt and growler and nice tip and beat it out of there...who knows hopefully she was an owner.

Dave M.

Yelp
What makes a good brewery? Well naturally the beer itself is 85% of the score, but the environment and staff makes up the rest. Firetrucker Brewery offers everything you are looking for. This place offers a very pleasant atmosphere that has a great decor, friendly staff and most importantly - a terrific variety of beer. My wife and I shared a flight of beer (4 samples for $6), and it was so reasonable, we flighted the entire menu with two bags of chips and tip - $26. If you are ever in the Ankeny area and want to have a fun time, definitely make a pit stop at this brewery.

Kara G.

Yelp
Super cool vibe and love how they feature local artists in the decor! I live in Ankeny and haven't been a regular. Going in tonight, I found the really have diversified their beers and have brought in a lot of different flavor profiles. I love the local breweries that play with flavors and have regular new offerings. I will definitely be visiting more often!

Matt E.

Yelp
Firetrucker is a relative newcomer to the Ankeny area and is located at the south end of the highly popular High Trestle Trail. Great business move on their part and they are exceptionally kind and accommodating to bicyclists in-bound and out-bound on their journeys. I've been here twice, once on their opening weekend and again on a recent bike ride. Applause here from me for reusing the former Ankeny Fire House. Cool and smart usage of existing well located building with character. The interior layout is very industrial in character and there is ample outdoor seating. Food is available here on occasion provided by an outside vendor (gourmet grilled cheeses on one visit). They've got a short menu of 3-4 of their signature brews here, some seasonals and some from elsewhere. I've stuck to the beers from on-site here which seem skewed toward very dark, rich and flavorful beers. This is place that you'll want to come for for flavor and craftsmanship. My latest visit and beer proved to be much more satisfying than my first. This is a great place to wrap up a long ride and lift a hearty flavorful pint to reflect and celebrate the conclusion of a ride. I'd like to give a particular tip of the hat to Firetrucker for their customer service and friendly practices.

Martin B.

Yelp
What can I say. I really like ginger beer. It's like an after dinner drink. It's semisweet but still has the fizz of a carbonated drink. And where better to have one than at Firetrucker? The Cat Dragon rules.

Keith B.

Yelp
Great craft brews cool atmosphere and patio is very inviting. Caters to bicyclists but we didn't feel out of place. The staff is friendly and all are welcomed warmly.
