37 Unforgettable Airport Meals Around the World

"A pub where the author enjoyed multiple meals during a blizzard delay, including fish and chips, lobster roll, salt cod fish cakes, scallop chowder, fried kielbasa, and potato skins. The place served local beer and provided a cozy atmosphere while passengers were stranded."

This place is just terrible. Service was awful, took 20 minutes to get a drink. Our waiter never stopped to check on us a single time. We had to walk around for almost 10 minutes to find a clean table for two. Worst of all, not even close to busy. Maybe 20 people in the entire place. We ordered chicken tenders and they were disgusting. So overcooked you could barely stab a fork into them, and the BBQ sauce had a very pungent/musky smell. (See photo) We had to go to the bar twice for drink refills and napkins. I couldn’t recommend this place less. Seriously.

Donnie Brown

Google
Service turnout to be good. The crab cakes under the appetizer are way to small but they were good. The crab cake dip was very good just too rich. Oh yeah that drink was amazing.

Jason Olson

Google
This place has a great vibe and ok food for being in an airport. We would probably return for a cold pint of beer on our next trip through BWI. The location was clean and did not have sticky floors.

Elizabeth Forstmann

Google
Ordered the cod fish n chips. It was NOT a fillet. It looked like undercooked mechanically separated fish. Whiskey sour was extremely weak and served with a straw. The server was attentive and sweet but completely ignored the fact that I didn’t take a bite as she handed me the $48 check.

Julia Tatchell

Google
I saw a lot of negative reviews for this place (after I sat down to eat) but I had a good experience here! I sat myself at the bar and the server came over immediately to assist. The wine was good and I got the buffalo chicken spuds appetizer which was pretty good. Service was good and quick. Can’t ask for more from an airport restaurant/bar.

Zach Pickard

Google
Good service. Fish and chips was mostly good, a bit overcooked though. Blood Orange sunrise drink was good.

Google
Stopped in here for a quick bite to eat and drink before my next flight. When I sat down I was greeted by the bartender pretty fast. He took my drink and food order as soon as I was ready. I decided to order mini crab cakes. The food came out in decent time. The mini crab cakes had great flavor and tasty dipping sauce. I did enjoy them however, I think the portion size was kinda small for the price. I understand it’s an airport restaurant but still think they should have been a little bigger. Other than that, the service was good and the bartender was polite. Not much going on inside the restaurant but still was very comfortable. Great place for something to eat while you are waiting around!

Google
Worst service I’ve ever experienced. After seating myself and waiting for 15 minutes before approaching the bartender and asking for a server. I had ordered my food and drinks soon thereafter. Came in a reasonable and was great. Upon receipt there was zero follow up to anything, even after closing up and packing my belongings and making eye contact with my service multiple times. As I waited another 15 minutes of neglect, I eventually bussed my own station and was en route to the bartender for my bill when the server came by. Upon asking to split the bill a certain way, the server proceeded to do the opposite of what I asked, but wasn’t going to risk being late to my flight to resolve it and will eat this cost. The food was pretty good, kudos to that team… but I would sooner sift through the BWI airport garbage for a meal rather than endure that comparable level of service I received at this restaurant.

Yelp
I arrived early at the airport, and saw that this was a perfect place to chill. I wanted to shoutout the staff who helped watch my bag when I ran to look for my phone (in the bathroom)... I didn't get his name, but really appreciated the help! A+ for service! Their caesar salad is humongous. Will be back next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Had some time to kill in between flights so I decided to check out a new place (to me) at BWI and i popped into firkin and flyer pub. You can seat yourself, and I decided to get some crab cakes, since you are close to the ocean, seafood is a must order for me, the crab cakes were savory and delicious! I also had a cocktail, that was summery and tasty! I forgot the name of if, but it was good! This is a great place to check out if you have some time in the BWI airport.

Yelp
Not great, but maybe I ordered the wrong thing. It took awhile to place my order and I watched the server take someone else's order and they arrived after me. My Firkin Burger tasted mostly of char and I was done after about 4 bites. Fries were also lukewarm so my order was likely back there for a while. All this for about $26. Blech.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast on my trip home from a business trip. I had the breakfast burrito and coffee. Both were passable and to be expected in an airport pub. The server was very nice and my food was brought out to me in a timely fashion.

Yelp
Had an hour prior to flight, they did very well despite limited staffing. The waiter was attentive and able to handle a bunch of tables. Ordered the cheesesteak and fries. The meal was solid exceeded expectations for a smaller airport bar and grill. The streak was cooked well and it was juicy without being greasy. A nice amount of white cheese and grilled onions made for a nice sandwich. All done in plenty of time to make my flight.

Yelp
This is a super cool establishment. British aviation themed. But the staff is always lacking. And by that I don't mean that they don't have enough staff. Just not all of them are there to work. There was a small group sitting down laughing, with one standing up and engaging with them. Ignoring all the clients that came in and sat down. We got our own menu. We walked up to the counter to order. As did others. We walked to the counter for drinks and refills The table was visibly dirty so we asked for a cloth to wipe it off. So much more nastiness then was visible to the naked eye. Do they even have management here? After placing our food order at the counter, we decided to start timing it. Once we hit 22 minutes of timing it, we decided to go. I don't know how they stay in business at an airport. We didn't get to try the food so I left it a 2 star rating.
google avatar

Lauren D.

Yelp
Terrible service. Food wasn't great. They consider a hot dog bun a baguette. Would find another restaurant in airport.

Yelp
Great view and food selection is good. Service always (always) is an issue - they're always understaffed here - I've been here 2 dozen times and never had great service. Most times they have to close the back part because there's nobody to wait on those tables. Try the crab dip. It's really the one go to item I get here.
google avatar

Yelp
I got the buffalo chicken and spuds. Sounded good, because a local place does this very well. Firkin does this with a crummy version of breaded cheese, breaded chicken chunks, and fries. Kinda looked like a bowl of dog food. There was little Buffalo sauce, which actually was a good thing, considering what it tasted like. Then my wife's order was even better, she ordered a crab cake, because Baltimore crab cakes are kinda famous (in a good way). Almost an hour after we ordered, the crab cake hadn't arrived, so they brought her the salad that the crab cake was supposed to be on top of. But there was no crab. So they generously charged her $20 for a salad with no crab cake, and called it a discount. When my wife complained, the waitress said she would try to find a manager, but that was unlikely.

Teresa J.

Yelp
I thought the crab cake was amazing and was very pleased. The server had a bit of a tude initially, but I conversed with him and made him engage so he was OK at the end. I read a lot of bad reviews about this place but it was one of the best crabcakes I've ever eaten.

Reyna M.

Yelp
Terrible service, rude employees. Waited 20 minutes and no Waitress. Went up to the bar to ask for service and the employees were very rude and just told us to wait. I would think in an airport you would understand that people have to make connecting flights. My wife and I are restaurant owners, and would never hire any of the staff we encountered today. The tall one told us to go eat cold sandwiches! WOW
google avatar

Tamara M.

Yelp
Decent bar/restaurant in the C wing of the airport. There is nothing extraordinary about it. The service and the food are decent. Nice British themed vibe so it is a nice spot to relax before take off.

Yelp
We were at the Baltimore Airport (BWI) for ten hours, and luckily we found this spot near our concourse. The drinks came out pretty quickly, but the food was a bit of a wait. There was only the bartender (Laura or Lauren) working, which seems to be the "norm" nowadays. They do have a really cool spot right across the walkway where you can bring your food or drinks and just chill. There was a cool couch with the British flag that was cute. We initially ordered the perogies (sp?) as an appetizer, but they came out at the same time as our entree. We got the parmesan crusted grilled cheese, which was good, but super greasy. We asked for the fries to be crispy, which they weren't, but we were hungry, so they were fine. We definitely enjoyed the company at the bar with the other customers and enjoyed our drinks the best!
google avatar

Maddie M.

Yelp
Worst waitress EVER, ridiculously long wait for chicken tenders, mediocre food - not as described on menu & pricey. Tenders on a bed of mesclun greens = 1 leaf of green lettuce. And in an airport, if you're going to make someone wait almost an HOUR, you might want to warn them.
google avatar

Eva R.

Yelp
Please don't eat here! Food is god awful. Got the wings and it was almost inedible. The burgers were over cooked to the extreme. We sat for 20 min before. Server came to us to give us menus. Food took an 40min to come out. Thank god we had 2.5 hours to kill. For an airport this was ridiculous.

Yelp
Having walked by this restaurant a few times passing through BWI airport on the way to our gate, we decided to try it. The free wifi at the airport doesn't work in this particular restaurant so that was a bit frustrating. They have different things to order, and we both ended up getting a hamburger( "Our 8oz burgers are fresh & never frozen. ) Add Toppings to your burger for $1 each: Cheddar Cheese | White American Cheese | Blue Cheese | Jalapeños | Caramelized Onions | Roasted Red Peppers, Add Bacon to your burger for $3 I ordered the "Old fashioned" $13.00, which was lettuce, tomato , pickles and onion with fries and onion rings. ( I asked for no onion) BF ordered the Firkin Burger ($14.00) which was White cheddar, bacon, caramelized onions with with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle & burger sauce and are dished up with fries & rings The server was pleasant and asked how we wanted it cooked. We both asked for MEDIUM RARE and I asked for no onion. She wrote it down and we sat back and chatted. It is a bit like a very large pub ( in an airport) . The food came out in about 20 minutes and the burgers were on thick buns with a long toothpick skewering it and 1 small limp cold onion ring on top. They looked pretty good but then I cut mine in half. Completely brown - hard and more than well done. Blech. And there was a big slice of onion in mine as well. The fries were in a silver cup and not bad but barely warm. No other onion rings with the fries. BF was cooked exactly the same way. How disappointing! We were on a time limit so when the server came by 15 minutes later and asked how everything was, I showed her the burger. She said "Oh....." And before she could say do you want a new one we said we don't have time. But the cook should be told. She looked vaguely concerned and said "Oh I'm sorry about that....." as I am sure she has said to many customers who got the same well done burgers when medium rare was requested. Just don't ask me how I want my burger cooked if the cook doesn't know how to cook it. That way I'm not mad that I spent $14 on a burger I ended up not really eating. I do not recommend this restaurant- at least not for burgers or fries or 1 onion ring . TRY SILVER DINER - at least they cooked the burger to medium rare! These chain restaurants in airports survive because 99% of the people will not come through there again. However, we go through BWI at least 2x or more a month and so are able to provide feedback. Very disappointing

Yelp
I travel quite a bit for work and pleasure. I am no stranger to airport food services. Normally, if I do eat at the airport it's due to necessity. I do not have high expectations when dining at any airport restaurant. This is quite possibly the worst service I have ever received. I went at a non busy time. At best, there was a handful of people dining. The server was slowly walking around to certain tables and clearly ignoring others. I waited for more than 20 minutes to get a menu. I finally went and got my own menu. After 10 more minutes, I walked over to the server and asked if I am at a wrong table. She let me know that she is my server and she will get to me when she can. When she finally did come over she said "are you ready now?" I am a generally patient person. I responded very politely with my drink and food order. The food runner was very quick to bring food, utensils and extra napkins. As I am eating I see at least 10 new people walk in, wait (as I did) and give up. She simply walks past everyone. Making sure to NOT make eye contact and ignoring anyone who speaks to get her attention. By the way, the fish and chips were good. Music was great. But the service was HORRID!
google avatar

Martin T.

Yelp
I came for some fish and was disappointed to hear that they do not serve fish for breakfast!!! Fish with a side of eggs is one of my favorite breakfast dishes ever! I settled for the egg sandwich and it was not bad at all. The potatoes mixed with veggies was also good.
google avatar

Ziad S.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in BWI airport. I ordered fish and chips and it was delish, the portion was pretty big and it will definitely fill you up. Next time I'll probably try the shepherds pie. Overall, this place is a good alternative to regular food you get at the airport. Make sure to check their lounge located right across from the bar, it's well decorated.
google avatar

Kate F.

Yelp
Oh my!! Where to start????? Needed dinner and a drink around 8pm on a Thursday night. It was packed, but less packed than most places at BWI. Sat on a bar behind the bar, but once I noticed I would not be served there, I bellied up to the bar as soon as I saw an available seat. I waited for a few minutes (like 5) and finally asked the bartender for a menu when she got a chance. She was obviously hustling, and SO not interested in anyone who was in a hurry. Menu came, glass of wine & shepherds pie. Everything was great. As I waited I watched her tell people "if you don't have time for a drink, do not stop" and admonished a few other people who were in a hurry. The bartender was old school, and as long as you have time I recommend this place. Do not go if you expect to grab a quick drink. Respect for her hospitable ways.
google avatar

Jake D.

Yelp
Wouldn't know what the service was like, myself along with three other groups left after 15 min when the waiters just looked over us when there were only a few others in the dining room. Unfortunate since the crew and seating accommodations were pleasant.
google avatar

Gail B.

Yelp
The pub is located by terminal C. The restaurant is on one side and the lounge is on the other side. It is easy to find. There is a giant plane in the middle. The menu includes sandwiches, fries and beers. The dining area has a nice view of the tarmac. I love the British decor. Even when the area is empty, employees won't allow you to sit unless you order something.

Dustin M.

Yelp
Super slow waiter. Had to ask him multiple times for everything. Never checked in on the table. He wouldn't even glance in the direction. Good wasn't great. Fish and chips was bland. The best thing about the meal was the coke and I had to ask twice for it. And ended up getting it after my food arrived.
google avatar

Teresa F.

Yelp
Such a comfortable spot to wait out a long layover. Nice furniture. Good music. Sports on TV. Solid pub choices like fish and chips, cheese steak, crispy wings, and burgers (no gluten-free bun here but great without bun). Bloody Marys are pint sized with crab seasoning on rim. Waaaay better than average over priced under whelming airport food.
google avatar

Chip M.

Yelp
There's a chalkboard at the entrance that says "Stop in and try the WORST fish-n-chips Paul M. ever had". Well that sparked my curiosity, so I sat down and ordered them. They were pretty damn good, especially for airport food. Laura the bartender made the experience and gave me a little background on Paul M. It would've been 4 stars, but Laura's customer service skills and attitude pushed it up way above the offered amount of stars. Paul M, you are a complete tool. Shame on you for your drunken and entitled behavior especially during the trying times of a pandemic. Really wish you were sitting next to me on the plane home so we could "talk". If you choose to eat here, I recommend you ask for Laura and if her manger reads this, she is the front door to this place. And she is doing a great job.

Adrienne B.

Yelp
Lady with the blue/purple hair was the worst - rudest waitress I've had in a long time and extremely slow. I don't want attitude with my fries, thank you. Also it wasn't very good. I had the veggie burger.
google avatar

Alison D.

Yelp
Bartender said she was cash only and was kind of rude about it, so I sat at a table. Server was accommodating and sweet. The chicken sandwich was pretty terrible but the crab dip was bomb.
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
We all know that airport food is a hit or miss experience but this tarmac side dining venue was extraordinary this night. As we pause to connect flights why not try this BWI dining and culinary spot. We weren't sure of how deep to dig into the British fare with a twist of harbor delicacies but we started with the mini crab cakes OMG we should have gotten the full size! Then I ordered the shrimp platter with a side Caesar and the wife ordered fish and chips well they put fries on the plate even though she ordered a side Caesar salad and service was done with a smile Shamise seemed as though she was working alone but handled every guest with a smile and excellent service. This place was hopping on a Saturday night as we all waited for connecting flights but if I'm passing through BWI I'm stopping chowing down and then going to sleep on my flight. Yummy yummy happy tummy Stop here this place is a taste of airport excellence!

Rob Z.

Yelp
We had to bus and clean our own table even though they weren't busy. All of the unseaterd tables were dirty. We waited 30 minutes and watched server after server walk by without stopping. We asked two different servers if someone was working our section and still no one showed up. After being totally ignored for 30 minutes, we left.

Rachel M.

Yelp
Found this gem in the airport - as a former MD resident, it's hard to find decent crab cakes anywhere else. Mini crab cakes on the menu, a bit pricey (but as I compared prices at other places inside, it was reasonable). Tried a local cream ale that was quite good. Ordered the crab cakes and waited. My server (Heather) alerted the manager that it was an excessive wait .. he came out and said "You've had to wait too long, so you won't need to pay for them" (kitchen drama, as a former food service worker, I get it). They arrived, and were among the best I've had since moving north. Crispy, not overly breaded, with an excellent remoulade sauce. Rich and tasty. Most of their locations are in Canada, but I hope they expand in the states. I've seen other less than positive reviews - probably staffing issues are part of that, and people need to understand that working in an airport environment (parking far away, security checks) is more of a challenge. My visit on May 6 was good, I hope they can get a handle on the kitchen staff - and I really hope that the blue crab population continues to thrive, although I know that's problematic now.

John C.

Yelp
Painfully slow and rude bartender. Food took an hour to come out, and it philly was terrible. Avoid at all cost
google avatar

Scott T.

Yelp
Order the cheesesteak spuds and pat yourself on the shoulder. Delicious. Comes out super hot, take your time.... crispy fries smothered in steak, brown gravy, peppers, and curds all melted in. What more do you need? Don't wear those pants you know are a couples sizes slimmer than normal for this beast. Enjoy!!

Jackie D.

Yelp
I fly through BWI nearly weekly and usually get breakfast or dinner at this establishment. Last night I put in a burger order about 50 minutes prior to boarding time and I literally had to pay for it and gave it to another customer next to me. The gal behind the bar said she could get it to go but at this point I was already late and upset it was taking so long. The chef had enough time to come out and chit chat with a young girl but couldn't get a burger out in 30 minutes? Also the cleanliness has gone way down hill and the service is lousy. i suspect that will be my last time until I can see a change walking to terminal C. Many had my experience last night.
google avatar

Orly M.

Yelp
This place has gone to hell. Horrible service. Called the manager to help us with silverware once the food had been delivered and she refused to help. There were 10 people in the dining room with 3 floor people trying to manage and they couldn't Horrible experience Never returning Manager said her name was Short Who knows

Annette B.

Yelp
Unfortunately didn't get to try this restaurant. Sign said set yourself so, I did that. All the tables that were-available were dirty. Another 10 min later server gave the menu. I asked for the table to be cleaned. 10 more minutes went by. Both servers walked by multiple times didn't speak a word. So I left just like they wanted.

Yelp
A sports bar themed in UK colors and memorabilia is pretty cool and drew me in. Located off the main food court area toward Gate C. They have the main restaurant with bar and dining room. Across the corridor the lounge with comfy seating. I elected to sit in the lounge. I saw minor debris on the floor and no customers. I was impressed by the details of the room from the red, white and blue leather couch to the embossed tin roof. The drop lighting added atmosphere. Am I in the airport? A waitress took my order. Nothing I would call friendly or unfriendly. She did her job. My order a cedar salad with a 20 oz Sam Adams Lager on draft. The prices are high, but expected at the airport. Approximately 5 minutes or so I received my beer. It was cold and filled to the top, good. Ten minutes or so later I got my salad. It was large and presented nicely. The lettuce was crisp, the the dressing too plentiful and croutons that were overly crispy. Not impressed. The close out of the bill was done at closing. No issues. I probably would not return.
google avatar

Art T.

Yelp
When I have time to sit down and eat at BWI, this is my go-to spot. The food is different than the standard 'American' fare. The service is usually very fast and fairly friendly. And the prices aren't too bad consider the quality and quantity of the offerings. I like the British pub-style food and setup. It's a bit modernized, but there's plenty of old-school decor to make the place intriguing. Also, their 'spuds' are basically poutine. And so good! Well worth sharing, but once you bite into them, you might not want to. Their bar selection is okay, nothing exciting, but passable. The prices here are usually much higher, but that's to be expected in the airport. Drink accordingly... (i.e. don't overdo it!). But, really, I come here to relax and have an enjoyable meal. It's never let me down on that front. Totally worth it, again, if I have the time before my flight.
google avatar

Casey H.

Yelp
Very good, even considering it's airport food. Not outrageously priced either. The burger will fill the above average human and the turkey avocado club is really good. Very inviting bar area with quite a few drink options. You won't be disappointed with this eatery at BWI.

Grace D.

Yelp
Came in here to eat during a long layover hoping to relax and while I was sitting in the dining room I saw a mouse run across the floor! So disgusting! The only redeeming quality of this place was my server! She was so apologetic and nice about everything! Wouldn't eat hear again but would get a drink with that woman.
google avatar

Stephen S.

Yelp
I came back after a break and ordered the crab cake appetizers- 4 deep fried balls of what tasted like crab. Totally frozen pre made mass produced crab clusters. 4 on the plate and I ate them all, but they weren't the best so I have to reduce my score for the quality of the product. Don't order this product if your looking for real fresh made crab cakes. Not happening here but the flavor was okay but not what I'm used to eating when ordering crab cakes. Service was still top marks so I can't complain too much. For being In Maryland they should be able to do better with quality product. 1st review I didn't eat but drank some strong 8% IPA beers. Raging Bitch was the name of my beer. Service was great from Marlena. I had a nice table left of the bar In the corner where no one bothered me. For that reason I rate higher. I like my privacy. The menu looks decent with reasonable prices. My 3 beers came to $26.16 and well worth it. Next time I hope to try the crab cakes. They looks good.
google avatar

Tyler C.

Yelp
Comfortable open restaurant specializing in British and bar fare. Advertises poor Yelp rating and that one thing that doesn't spread E Coli is alcohol, so come in and have a drink. Firkin and flyer was comfortable, and reasonable. Great glass of wine, in a dirty glass. Irish nachos with cheese burnt onto paper it was cooked in, but with lots of ketchup, it was pretty good. Pierogis were very good with lots of onions. So while there was nothing special, it's an airport and it was better than the rest. Staff didn't rush me. And was very pleasant. They did well.
google avatar

Lois S.

Yelp
I would not normally review an airport restaurant but I want to save weary travelers a stomach ache. I've been lucky I've never had a bad airport meal until today. Hamburger dry and gross, fries freezer burned and ice tea that tasted like a dish rag. The server was too busy rolling her silverware to give service to the patrons. Gross

Roy A.

Yelp
Staff is lacking customer service training. Won't be returning. I will try other businesses
google avatar

Jeremy W.

Yelp
Wow, if I were the CEO of this company and became a secret shopper sitting here for service, I would probably cry. There is zero incentive for the staff to provide a good experience let alone welcome to table or take their order. This is a shell of a business with staff who don't seem to really get it.

Jewel S.

Yelp
The service here is atrocious! I've been in here three times, because the food is pretty decent for airport food. However, the last two times I've been here the service has been terrible. It takes forever!!!! to get service and to get your bill after you're done eating. I've waited --easily -- 15 minutes for both service and a bill. To get service of any kind you have to flag down the one person waiting tables. This is an airport restaurant, where people are on timelines, for goodness sakes. After you get your meal, there is zero follow-up to see if everything is ok. The staff is nice enough. There just aren't enough of them. The atmosphere is ok, reasonably clean. If this otherwise decent restaurant wants to go out of business, it couldn't devise a better recipe for success than to get people to walk in the door, ignore them, and wait for them to share their experience in Yelp -- after they've stood up and walked out.

Yelp
It's located right before you get to gate C1. It's a nice, big, roomy place and is clean. They have a full bar, 12 beers on tap, and 10 types of wine. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner items all available. Service was "meh." Every time I tried to order something, the bartender would look away and not make eye contact. I had to flag him down several times, and say "yo dude, over here." They have power outlets at the bar, so that was cool - my phone battery has been giving me fits lately. As I said above, the service was bad, but here's what's keeping them at a solid 4-star rating. Sit down before you read any further - and I'm serious about this kids. It's $6 for a 20 oz domestic draft. Yes, I said $6 for a *20* oz draft, and YES, this is an AIRPORT bar. Might be a bit pricey for the "outside world," but it's a bargain for an airport bar.

Yelp
We went there for the crab eggs Benedict. Sadly they removed it from the menu after a new owner took over. In talking with the server she stated she gets a lot of requests to bring it back. Please bring it back!

Yelp
Ordered a turkey and avocado club. Got three or so slices of deli cut turkey, avocado was slightly oxidized and lettuce was brown around the edges. Tasted fine though. Fries came on the side, very crunchy but not seasoned. Friendly staff.
