East Sussex Guide: Spend a Weekend in Bloomsbury-in-the-Countryside, With Cliff Walks, English Vineyards, and Art | Vogue

"With a stone facade, the local manor house in Firle is a swift walk from the house Virginia Woolf rented in the winter of 1911." - Jo Rodgers

I ADORE being at Firle Place and getting the opportunity to flower this gorgeous wedding venue for my couples. There are so many spaces to choose from to create a memorable and heartfelt ceremony, and the Riding School is a blank canvas that couples can truly have fun with and make their own, whilst still keeping the magic the space offers. I’m so excited to be back in 2026 and helping couples put their creative stamp on this gorgeous place! Photographs by Becky Wright Photography

Firle Place opens to the public only on certain days, and my sister and I visited during the garden show in April. We spent a good four hours there and felt it was well worth the visit. Tickets were about £10 each, with an additional cost to enter the Girls Place house. There’s plenty of space for parking, which is free (or rather, included in the ticket price). The event offered lots to see — from beautiful garden furniture to handmade cards. You won’t go hungry either, as there are plenty of refreshment stations with food and alcohol tastings, and you can even purchase items to take home. Families are well catered for too, with activities like egg hunts and a kids’ entertainment area. The venue also hosts weddings, which could be perfect if you’re planning a special day. Overall, it was a lovely outing with lots to enjoy for all ages.

A very well maintained and glorious Georgian mansion set in beautiful landscape. The tea room serves fresh cut sandwiches and a couple of tasty quiches which, with the salad and s few crisps made an excellent light lunch ( I had cake too). Staff are helpful and efficient. The tea room terrace is a delight.

We were lucky to get a private tour with a very knowledgeable guide. Great history, well-kept estate. Tasty treats in the tea room.

Patsy was the guide today. What a delightful job she did, telling the story of the family, house & many of its contents in a very engaging way! Firle Place house tour is a very interesting tour of a country house as Patsy said, full of treasures! Also very worth seeing is the Gage family chapel within the ancient church of St Peter’s Firle … a John Piper stained glass window no less!! Set East of the church, a sunny morning makes its colour come brightly alive!

Our tour guide, Patsy, was absolutely superb. Great gardens. Wonderful paintings and gorgeous building - plus the sitting room where the judges chat with the hosts on Bake Off The Professionals!
