First Restaurant

The restaurant keeps the old Chinese fashion in its architecture and in its seating which looks nice. They have a good menu consisting of 109 dishes. We took some time to go through it and choose the food!! We ordered - fried rice 'first' style and rice Chinese style with chicken and shrimp with sausages. The fried rice was really good and the other one was just 'okay'. Washrooms are available which are good and clean. The service was also good. The problems you might face are noticeability and parking. They don't provide parking, we need to find a spot to park our vehicle. The restaurant is situated in the first floor of the building. On the ground floor, there will be only a door and the borad. Take the stairs and get there.

Great food, good ambiance and reasonable price. We gathered with a group of 12 people on 1 table. We were comfortable. Food as usual is delicious at First.

Feb24- went approx @13:45, it closes at 14:30. They still served us and the waiter was lovely. Helpful when we asked and pleasant. We had sweetcorn and crab meat soup, wine vermicelli (meat, egg and prawns) and cracking praqs (battered). Note: the dishes don't fully list ingredients- luckily the waiter told us vermicelli has meat in! Excluded and fine. Was a bit oily. Prawns were good the soup was divine. Paid £24 approx including drinks.

Certainly not my first time at First Restaurant. They did a great job of maintaining the standard after all these years. The Peking Duck was delicious as usual and the Cantonese fried rice and sizzling mixed seafood platter were solid 8 out of 10. The portions are quite large, service is relatively quick and prices are reasonable. The table covers and chairs need upgrading, but food-wise and price-wise, no complaints at all.

Was at First Restaurant a few times during my 1 week stay in Mauritius. As usual food was amazing, service staff courteous as always. One of the few places which have kept up the standards over the many years!!! Best Chinese Restaurant in Mauritius by far.

Small entrance (a bit scary too) and two flights of stairs to climb. Entrance is easy to miss. But inside it is really lovely. If you get one of the window tables you get to witness the hustle and bustle of the nearby city from above, which is unusual and nice. We had not been there in 17 years. The dishes are still very good. Among the starters we recommend the seafood rolls as they are different from the usual ones. The soups are excellent and served in generous portions (for the same price other restaurants give you barely one portion, not a whole bowl). Finally great work by the management in maintaining a relaxing atmosphere inside by playing jazz-like music instead of the noise you will hear elsewhere.
