How to Get Outdoors in Berlin—From Swimming Lakes to Lush Gardens | Condé Nast Traveler

"The adjacent Alte Fischerhütte (Fisherman’s Hut)—housed in a former inn built in 1723—dishes out tasty fish, including zander (pike perch) straight from the lake. Or, grab a pint and people-watch at the beer garden, which serves up mulled wine and hot chocolate in the colder months."

The atmosphere is fantastic, and our kids love spending time here. It's a great place to visit alone or with a big group of friends. The lake looks beautiful, and many people enjoy swimming in it. You can relax and have a meal under the shade of the trees. The prices are reasonable and worth it.

For the price I expected much more flavour instead of just tons of salt, the fish was dry grilled, the veggies just salty lumps. We also ordered pasta for kids, they were definitely not thrilled about the sauce, and Barilla mini penne. The view is great, though. The service was trying hard, but no soul in it. Lame for the price I paid. Don't think we'll be coming back.

Oktoberfest was a bust. Paid for VIP seats, crammed 10 per table. Had a door handle in my back, had to sit sideways to fit 5 per bench. Husband had a pillar blocking half his seat. Waiter took one drink order and disappeared. Literally couldn’t use knife and fork to cut food due to no space. Got up to go outside, not allowed to order a drink at bar, no drinks outside, host at door gave ZERO interest that it was a miserable experience. Loud, cramped and hot. Not worth it.

It is actually a really nice restaurant. Despite the negative reviews I've seen, our experience was really good. Yes, the price is a bit higher around 25 euros per person but you are next to the lake with no other restaurant within a 20 minute walk. There is a beer garden right in front with self service food as opposed to the proper restaurant service of this place. The food was tasty with German classics like a currywurst. The staff were friendly and the food arrived on time. I would expect the service to slow down during the weekend for sure as it gets busy. Overall, a perfect location with some good food, I have to give 5 stars based on our experience.

Google
Excellent location, scrumptious food, better service than most German restaurants but that's not saying much. The juiciest and tastiest tiger prawns in the region I've had so far. The kids did complain about the Currywurst being very spicy. As is the case with German customer service in general, i give it 3 stars. Very expensive but worth the money for the delicious taste.

The environment was so nice, Lake view was fantastic. Lake is not so clean but kids enjoyed swimming and played games in tb4 near play area too.

The food tasted great and it was nice to have somewhere to sit and enjoy a meal with friends before heading out to the lake. Why I wouldn’t recommend this: - the restrooms are despicable, just thinking of it makes me squirm and have goosebumps - the portions are ridiculous - the front house host had a horrible attitude

We did not feel welcomed by the staff and it was not a busy day. Served wine instead of proseco and the steak was far more done than ordered. Was expecting more for such prices.

Yelp
The Fischerhütte symbolizes Home, spring and summer feeling to me. I grow up around there and knew the "old Fischerhütte" back in days. They did an incredible job renovating it and turn it into a modern Beergarden & Restaurant at the Schlachtensee. I spent some great evenings sipping their tasty Bowle and chatting with friends the night away over there. But its pretty nice all year long, in winter time they serve hot chocolate and mullet wine to warm you up after a stroll around the lake or even some ice skating if you dare to step on it. During the Weekends it tends to get too packed and you could queue for ages to get a refreshment or a sunny spot. If you look for a "nature break" of Berlin busy city life, take the Sbahn down there and enjoy a chilled glass of Bowle during the summer!

Yelp
I hate to be Debbie Downer but this restaurant has become a shadow of its former self - the prices have exploded, and the portions have gotten smaller. Not a good combination. A small plate of Kartoffelsuppe for 9 Euro? Fish-n-Chips so small a proper Brit would finish it in two bites for 16 Euro? And the Seasonal Shrimp Special for 59 Euro? I'm sorry, this is not the Ritz. The ambience is still nice - outdoor seating by the lake - and that's what drove us here in the first place. Lots of "old money" here - the patrons are usually 50+ with 7 figures on their bank accounts (that probably explains the prices). My advice is to skip and look for better options in the area.

Yelp
The view is great, the staff is polite, the crowd is very local and made up mostly of the rich inhabitants of the South of Berlin. Their food and coffee at the cafe is tasty and fresh. They don't accept cash card/credit cards. Even though they have hundreds of guests each day. Weird.

Yelp
This wasn't was expected! Falstaf on the window but not on the table!! Service was simply mediocre and unprofessional. The menu was not satisfying and price over the top for the quality!!!!!

Yelp
This is why Berlin is so great. You are in a world class city, but you can drive through a nice neighborhood and end up on a lakeside restaurant serving good food and great beer. I should mention that inside this is a "nicer" restaurant, while outside it has a traditional beergarden. On a cool evening, we sat indoors in short sleeve polo shirts, while everyone else was much more dressed up (as were the waitstaff), so we felt a bit awkward, but I had the Flamenkuchen mit zwiebel und fleish which was extremely tasty. The crust was very thin, almost like flatbread in it's consistency, making it almost thin crust pizza-like, but with the onions and bacon it was much more flavorful than any pizza I have ever had. delicious, but not cheap at 10 euros.

Yelp
Nice place - both outside and in. Inside it's a bit more upmarket but prices are reasonable (slightly above Berlin prices). Had a great wiener schnitzel and staff were very attentive and pleasant. When it's warmer, it's great to sit outside overlooking the lake!

Yelp
The restaurant inside is too expensive and not very good. But outside by the lake when the sun is shining, beer and weisswurst in hand, life's beauty comes into sharp focus.

Yelp
Of course we had to have a snack!! Pommes, Currywurst and I allowed myself a Bier with sprite (sounds gross, but is super yummy!). It's called "gespritztes." The service was really really great super nice guy!! Life is good!

Yelp
The Schlachtensee is one of the pleasanter walks you can have in Berlin... at the end of said walk there is this nice little Biergarten that serves up beer (naturally), hot chocolate and all sorts of tasty treats and savories. Its a great place to kick back and have a bier and chat after a great stroll along a gorgeous lake.

Yelp
I was there this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I just had a very very nice Rostbratwurst with potato salad, as I said very nice! And they serve Franziskaner Hefeweizen! This review was written in 2009.

Yelp
This is a large self-service beer garden offering traditional snacks and with a posh restaurant, nicely situated on Schlachtensee and the one and a half hour stroll around the lake. Choose a quiet time on a nice day, put your walking shoes on and take the S1 train to Schlachtensee.

Yelp
Generally disappointing experience. Food was fine, but not really good enough to justify the price, and the beer and hot chocolate were reasonable. But wow the service was terrible. Had to go and look for someone to greet us who then didn't seat us, just pointed and said, unhelpfully, some tables are reserved, some aren't. When my dining partner had chosen a fish soup, our waiter said "it's not what you think it is" followed by "we don't have any" followed by "I don't like it" and finally settling with offering a sample to prove how disgusting it was. Having been suitably put off and opting for something else, the food actually arrived pretty promptly, but ordering more drinks took half an hour and required leaving the table. The waiter was almost actively ignoring us, even when his colleagues could clearly see we were waiting to make an order, and were pointing him in our direction. The other staff said they couldn't help us, and when we had been waiting ten minutes to ask for the bill and another ten minutes for it to come, we eventually had to just get money out and leave it on the table before we got any attention. Can't remember being treated so poorly in a restaurant for a long time.

Yelp
Very bad service! When I asked for a glass of water next to my espresso I was told that the owner of the place doesn't wish the guests to get a glass of water. A place where the wishes of the owner do count more than the wishes of a guest. Apart from that the espresso wasn't short and strong as I wanted it to be and the fruit salad didn't have any taste. I also had eggs which were ok and green tea which wasn't bad either. The location on the shore of lake Schlachtensee is nice but the bad vibes that came along with the bad service sensitively reduced our pleasure.
