We were advised by a local shop owner on a road trip from Rockhampton to Cairns that we needed to try out Fish D'Vine on our way through Airlie. Being foodies, we didn't think twice and promptly booked a table at Fish D'Vine for 6pm once we got to Airlie. That's probably the first tip. Book ahead. It was a Tuesday night and we really didn't except it to be too busy but by the time we were leaving, there was a line up of people waiting for a table. They have an impressive display of fresh, local seafood when you enter so you are aware right away of the "market specials" to help you make a decision one you sit down to order. We ordered the chargrilled crustaceans and chose lobster. We also ordered Asian greens and a chargrilled prawn dish.
Unfortunately, the lobster was wayyy overcooked. You could crack the legs with two fingers and they would crumble in your hand. It was dry and for $60, we were disappointed. The Asian greens were okay but not fantastic and the prawns were unfortunately dry too. To be honest, after our experience there we believe the food is pre-cooked and sits in a Bain Marie waiting to be ordered. We get it- to a point. The amount of people waiting for a table suggested that they could not manage to provide them with a meal within a decent time without pre cooking their food. But I felt that we were given an illusion when we walked in, to see all the fresh seafood on display. For $120 for our bill- we would not rave about this place at all.
They had lots of staff who were lovely and prompt. They also have an impressive Rum bar with rum cocktails. ( sorry folks, I didn't get any pics. But I know other yelped have posted on here, so check it out)
Anyway. To sum up our experience, it was poor. If you know what good, fresh seafood tastes like, you are likely to be disappointed, if this is your first experience eating mud crabs, lobster or bugs, then you may be impressed.
