Great fish and chips. We ordered beer battered flake, three calamari and chips. It was enough to share, as we’d sampled some food at the nearby markets. There is seating inside and outside the eatery. They are licensed and also provide self service bottles of water and cups. The calamari was excellent and the tartare sauce was included in the price.

The prawns were absolutely delicious—fresh, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. I genuinely loved them, and they were the highlight of my meal. The fish were tasty too. The staff service was average, but I would not call it poor. The lady serving us seemed a little uninterested or tired, though that is understandable. Everyone can have a bad day, and the place was extremely busy when we visited. The wait time for our order was slightly longer than expected, but again, considering how crowded it was, it made sense. The location is excellent, right on the waterfront with easy access and beautiful views.

This place was tucked away on the side of one of the piers which is currently undergoing some renovations. We had been told good things so we were excited to try it out. Everything was absolutely beautiful - chips were fried to perfection with a light golden brown crust. Top them off with copious amounts of salt and vinegar and you are set. Kids enjoyed the fish & chips and calamari & chips also which they sometimes won't eat....they scoffed the whole thing here. I often complain to my other half when we get fish and chips out and about. I'm Irish so I grew up with good fish and chips by the beach. This is only the second time in 14 years in Australia have I said wow that's just like home 👏 we will definitely be back on our trip and future trips.

First time coming here but had wanted to try them for quite awhile. It was busy but managed to get a table. Decided on the two pieces of flake and chips which came to just over $30. Ordering was easy enough and didn't have to wait too long considering the amount if people they were busy with. The fish were juicy thick pieces and the chips were delicious. Nothing to go crazy over but certainly not a let down.

The fish and chips at this Hobart waterfront gem are exceptional—fresh, yummy, and perfectly cooked. We sampled all three menu options: mixed fish, flake, and the fish of the day, Pink Ling. The flake stood out as the best, especially for Asian tastebuds, with its mild, non-fishy flavor and delicious texture. The crumbed calamari was a highlight—soft inside, crispy outside, and simply divine. Eating by the waterfront, basking in the vibrant atmosphere and pleasant weather, made the experience unforgettable!

Brilliant Seafood Restaurant with Value for Money Food Selection. The location is brilliantly situated on the water with plenty of indoor and seating outdoors. The food is absolutely delicious and will satisfy.

Found the place by chance as it’s located inside the pier that has been renovated. The food and atmosphere were great. Loved my fish wrap. Highly recommend this place for tasty food and hassle free experience The decor had a few funky touches as well

Ordered the flake and the salt and pepper calamari. The calamari were good. Above average and satisfying but not mind blowing. Greek salad was fresh and delicious as well, a good addition to the meal. However, the flake was a standout. A real light but also "meaty" taste with a gentle ocean flavour that wasn't overly salty. Served as 2 steaks that were cooked perfectly and fell apart while eating. Ordered with the beer batter which was very light and not like a thick "dagwood dog" style batter Chips were also above average, not greasy and sickening but once again, not mind blowing but plentiful in each serve. Friends said their oysters were fantastic. Fresh flavour with the perfect consistency though they do admit that June is the right time of year to eat them. Staff are very friendly and helpful when ordering and tartare sauce is free, unlike a lot of modern restaurants. Sauce is also light and tangy and not overly creamy. Price is a bit on the steep side but they literally have a restaurant sticking out of the ocean and their food is very well made. I would recommend a visit if you're after a fish meal that won't leave you feeling an Exxon Valdez spill.

Yelp
The most amazing seafood chowder and a good selection of wines to go with it. Amazing service. Smiles all round plenty of seating.

Yelp
Appears to have quality seafood. Nice location in marina overseeing the ocean. The catch of the day, Blue Eye, was delicious as were the chips. The seafood chowder was good except it was too sweet for me. Good bread accompaniment.

Yelp
Always go here at least once while in Hobart. Always order the same thing. Crumbed prawns with chips. A soda and water. We split it so it's really reasonable. Ten fried shrimp and a lot of fries. All perfectly cooked. Probably frozen shrimp but they are still really pretty good. I might not order the oysters but the crumbed shrimp is a yes. The restaurant is always packed and there is always a line. You get in line to order and give them your table number. And not long afterwards your food arrives. Their system works. And they serve a lot of food. Everyone seems very happy. Recommend for a quick inexpensive meal of simple seafood. And yes, we will return next year. No reservations/bookings accept.

Yelp
A bit pricey, but SO worth it for the serving sizes. I ordered fish&chips + pepsi, and those chips were TO DIE FOR. Fish was average -- though I tried some of my party's calamari and it was delicious -- but man, those chips? Delicious. And it all comes in a cute paper cone (I say 'cute', but that is irrelevant to the size. Monster cones fr). Service was good, saw a cute little herring bird as well. Damn those chips though. They've got me considering a career as a seagull.

Yelp
When in Hobart, seafood is the #1 choice. For our first dinner in town, we met up with friends and let them choose a spot. We were in Salamanca Square already so our friend suggested Fish Frenzy. We dropped in on a Thursday evening (around 7:30pm) and the place was busy. No problems snagging a table. You order at the counter, tell them your table number then they'll bring the dishes out to you. Service is friendly and I even got a free tartar sauce. The menu is short with premium fish, chips, Frenzy favourites, a pier platter for two ($98.00 AUD), shellfish, from the grill and salads. Prices are definitely on the higher end. As others have said, you're paying for the wharf side views. There was also two specials (fresh tassie blue eye and potato wedges) on their chalkboard menu. Tartar and chili coriander sauce ($0.50 AUD each) is in the fridge and ketchup (pay by donation) up on the counter. - 2x Fish frenzy ($21.00 AUD) - two pieces of crumbed fish, three scallops, three calamari and chips. Scallops and calamari were nicely crumbed and tender. Sadly, their fish was dry. Crumbed breading is the way to go; so much healthier and less greasy. Chips were standard. - Grilled octopus (north west coast) ($25.00 AUD) - with chili, oregano and garlic marinade on a garden salad with tzatziki. Octopus had that tender, almost crab like texture to it. Decent portion. One of the better places that we've had fish & chips but be prepared for a heftier bill.

Yelp
The photos look much better than the taste of freshness. Very busy but line moves quick the fish van in triabunna area was way better price and fresh unfortunately but good atmosphere Value 3/5 Atmosphere 3/5 Service 4/5 Quality 3/5 13/20
google avatar

Yelp
Lunch, I had the Blue eye Trevella battered with the Special Of The Day, Tasmanian grilled Scallops in garlic butter. From a separate counter I had a Tasi Sav Blanc. Be sure to get the tarter sauce and chili sauce from the reach in case, extra charge. Fish was amazing as were the scallops. It was the Wooden Boat festival and everything, though busy was on point!

Yelp
Fresh Fish! Oysters a must try and the price is good for what we are offered. Loved the fish burger and the shark attack. The portion is really big and perfect and so is the place. Loved the location. We went on Sunday afternoon and it was pretty full but the service was fast.

Yelp
As other reviews have stated, the prices appear to be higher than other seafood restaurants. I ordered the scallop special not realizing how little amount of food would be on the plate. The four scallops were smaller than the size of a US quarter. Fortunately, I had also ordered the potato wedges which helped fill me up. Although they were called wedges, they were actually potatoes sliced in halves. The chili mayo was a better condiment than the usual ketchup or malt vinegar which I am used to in the States.

Yelp
Hands down the worst food I've had in Australia and possibly the worst seafood I've ever eaten! I wish I could give this place negative stars. Everything is absolutely tasteless. I tried the fried fish, fried scallops, fried calamari, and grilled scallops and it was all overpriced trash. Pro tip: rather than eat here buy frozen seafood at the supermarket and heat it up using the microwave.

Yelp
The finish were not frenzy ... Reminds me of my dead husband... He loved feenzious fudge . Be good in the next world No no no Suasnan

Yelp
Folks, I relocated from Hobart almost ten years ago, and have returned briefly for work. I had the absolute delight to enjoy your food again which appears to have only got better! My kids both have fond memories of eating there with me, and were envious that I was able to enjoy your food again without them this time! Maintaining and improving on such a great standard is terrific, and I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Taste; quantity; quality - they're all there in spades. Already looking forward to a return visit!

Yelp
It's expected that you will indulge in lots of seafood when in Hobart and Fish Frenzy isn't a bad place to do it if you're after something casual. There's views of the water, tall ships and expensive catamarans. The outdoor tables are pleasant on a warm day and it wouldn't be complete without some seagulls eyeing off your chips with their beady little eyes... When it comes to the actual food... well expect to pay a bit for what is essentially run of the mill fish and chips. $30 for grilled fish and average over-dressed salad seems a bit rich to me. Bruny Island oysters (6 for $14) are good but being pre-shucked earlier in the day means you miss out on all those great juices. The chips come wrapped in a paper cone and are big and chunky. Good, but nothing special. What IS special is the views here and the ability to dine so close to the water. So, choose a great day and I'm sure you'll love this experience.

Yelp
A waterfront fried food emporium where you order at the counter, tell them your table number and the food is delivered to you. The prices are high but you are paying more for the location than quality ingredients and cooking. One of us had the Fish Frenzy which was fried fish, scallops, calamari and chips. All were good except the fish which was not particularly tasty. The other had the Blue Eye Trevalla tempuraed with chips and it was much better.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
I read that Fish Frenzy had the best fish and chips in Australia. I don't know if that is true, but we ordered the fish and chips and loved it. Good food, good service, friendly employees, excellent experience. The Blue Eye Travalla was great.
google avatar

Jen T.

Yelp
I really like this place! The fish burger with chips was very good, and HUGE. The wine special was very nice. A little pricey at $28AUS but it's on the harbor and you're paying for the view.
google avatar

Eric R.

Yelp
Decent fish, pretty good chips, upper end prices in a casual setting. What you're really paying for here is a great location overlooking the wharf. They have a variety of seafood on the menu which can be prepared a variety of ways. I settled on fish (with calamari and scallops) and chips, with a Cascade. This set me back over $30. It was good, but not great. Not complaining but I immediately thought of the $8 takeaway fish and chips I had in Sydney. Still this was not a bad place to spend and afternoon for lunch.

Yelp
A fine example of mediocre seafood in a good setting. Tossed-up giving this a two star review, but changed to a one star for a couple of reasons that will become apparent. First off, the food is nothing special. Everything seems to be bulked up with excessive chips to make the meal seem bigger. The meals themselves are unimaginative. Nothing specifically wrong with them, just mediocre and boring. Which is a surprise given the relatively high prices for the food. Service, however, is the thing that made me knock the star rating down. Simply put, it is on the level of a badly managed McDonalds. Here's a few points: "No, I don't know which table number I am at. We haven't picked one yet. Didn't know we needed to before ordering. No, we won't go back to find a table, then come back and stand to wait in the order line yet again." "No, the people at the table next to us don't have to clear up after themselves, and we won't either. At the prices you charge I expect you to clean up the table after we leave. And perhaps you should consider not badmouthing customers after they leave." Really, there are a lot more pleasant places for seafood around the docks that are better priced, have better food, and don't consider customers to be impediments to their business.

Yelp
This place is so unreasonably priced it's not even remotely funny. Services is ok, but food is terrible. This place is a glorified fish and chip shop, at 10x the price. Steer clear.
google avatar

Thy P.

Yelp
The wrap was delish! The price is fairly up there but it's a nice spot that is quick. Great customer service :)
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
Overpriced and inflexible with selections. Two battered flake for $15 was possibly the worst flake I have ever had...my local fish and chip shop in Ashburton does better for $6.50. Won't come again.

Yelp
If you want fresh Fish & Chips in Hobart, Fish Frezy is the way to go. At the start of the Elizabeth Street Pier, it is located close to Salamanca Square. After coming back from the Three Capes Track (4-day hike), I was absolutely starving. I ordered the calamari, crumbed prawns and chips. Like most fish & chip shops, the food was delivered in less than 10 minutes. The quality of the seafood was fresh and delicious.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Reasonable food, quality service although I suspect the kitchen staff would rather be drinking at the cricket instead of drinks at work.... Considering we spent well in excess of $100 we would expect a more professional experience.
google avatar

Ron H.

Yelp
I don't get the hype of this place at all. The location on the docks is great, but at the prices charged (eg $28 for fairly average fish and chips) I would expect better quality seafood dishes and table service. Not in a hurry to go back.
google avatar

Nelson A.

Yelp
Fish and chips! No surprises at Fish Frenzy. The fish and chips are delicious but better can be had at a better price. FF offers cool beverages and seating outside and in. Beware of the outside seating and fellow patrons that cannot read signs. Feed the seagulls and beware!
google avatar

Adam F.

Yelp
Expensive Fish and chips in a fancy wharf setting. It's a nice location but the basic fish and chips is way too expensive for the quality. However it looks like some of the better seafood on the menu looks great. Worth a look for good quality seafood, but for basic fish and chips, try one of the other 3-4 options in the area.

Yelp
Great experience, staff was very hospitable, very friendly quick and prompt. The beer batter was amazing and the fish was excellent the chips had a batter on it also which was excellent. Great lunch great location. Travelled down from the NT and was very impressed.

Ahmet B.

Yelp
Great family restaurant on Hobart's waterfront. Would love to see more Tassie ciders on the drinks menu.

Mick M.

Yelp
very average. fish and chip could be lot better. the place only caters for tourist so gets away with sub par food. service is average. better option even though i dint like Maure's that much have to recommend it in this case.
