When in Hobart, seafood is the #1 choice. For our first dinner in town, we met up with friends and let them choose a spot. We were in Salamanca Square already so our friend suggested Fish Frenzy.
We dropped in on a Thursday evening (around 7:30pm) and the place was busy. No problems snagging a table. You order at the counter, tell them your table number then they'll bring the dishes out to you. Service is friendly and I even got a free tartar sauce.
The menu is short with premium fish, chips, Frenzy favourites, a pier platter for two ($98.00 AUD), shellfish, from the grill and salads. Prices are definitely on the higher end. As others have said, you're paying for the wharf side views.
There was also two specials (fresh tassie blue eye and potato wedges) on their chalkboard menu. Tartar and chili coriander sauce ($0.50 AUD each) is in the fridge and ketchup (pay by donation) up on the counter.
- 2x Fish frenzy ($21.00 AUD) - two pieces of crumbed fish, three scallops, three calamari and chips. Scallops and calamari were nicely crumbed and tender. Sadly, their fish was dry. Crumbed breading is the way to go; so much healthier and less greasy. Chips were standard.
- Grilled octopus (north west coast) ($25.00 AUD) - with chili, oregano and garlic marinade on a garden salad with tzatziki. Octopus had that tender, almost crab like texture to it. Decent portion.
One of the better places that we've had fish & chips but be prepared for a heftier bill.
