Best bass fish I ever had! I wish I had know before how tasty bass is. Location is busy but the food taste great. We are definitely coming back soon. I should mention that I have little allergy to gluten and they kindly fry my fish in corn meal there is a guy named Sergio that goes above and beyond to satisfy the customers always with a happy face as a complement. I used to go to aw shucks before but ever since I found this place I have no need to go another places for tasty and delicious seafood. Last picture is of mahi mahi with fries and vegetables.

I started eating the food from this small local chain at a location nearer to my house that closed. As I understand it, this is the main location. Excellent fried catfish, shrimp, and oysters! Good steak fries, but I prefer their onion rings. They also have very good seafood gumbo! My favorite oder is a bowl of the gumbo and the sampler platter with onion rings with a diet coke.

Google
Food was great!! Favorite was the boiled crab legs. The fried items could have used a bit more spice but overall great experience and pretty good prices!

Bf and I came here for a date night as he has been here before and highly recommended it. I immediately noticed how crowded it was. Definitely a neighborhood local favorite on a Friday night, which is always a promising sign. Menu was diverse and seemed overall quite affordable. You could get many kinds of seafood cooked in practically any way you could imagine with large portion sizes. Bf got a plate with catfish and butterfly shrimp and I got a plate with cod. We split a side plate of fried okra. The okra was above average I would say, and we finished our plate of it. The fries were alright but nothing special, and I’d say the seafood was great. I enjoyed the shrimp I tried off of my bf’s plate more than the cod, but it was all cooked well and portioned generously. The sauce it came with was tangy and paired well with the seafood. Additionally, the coke I was given was absolutely massive and easily 3x what you would get for the same price elsewhere. I’d for sure recommend this place. Just be aware that it’s on the small side and parking/tables are limited!

Google
I randomly stumbled upon this restaurant while in Plano. It was very crowded, so I had high expectations. I ordered the catfish special. I cannot remember if it was a lunch or daily special, but it came with rice and beans. All of the food was hot and fresh. My only complaint is that everything was lacking in seasoning.

Google
Wow! What an amazing little restaurant! The hush puppies were the best I've ever had. Really tasty fish, was not dry, timely and I definitely plan on returning!

Sam G.

Google
Great food, but ambiance could be improved The fish shank was absolutely delicious—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and seasoned to perfection. The sides were fresh and flavorful, making the meal very satisfying. The quality of the food definitely stands out. However, the ambiance left something to be desired. The seating was a bit cramped, and the overall decor felt outdated. The noise level was also quite high, which made it hard to fully enjoy the dining experience. If you’re here for the food, you won’t be disappointed, but a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere would elevate the overall experience.

I’ve read some of the reviews about the fish shack and I really think that a lot of restaurants need more than one chance to get an honest review. I probably eaten at the fish shack over 50 times. I will admit that the size of the fish and the quantity of the items flexes overtime sometimes I get excellent, and sometimes I didn’t get the best fish piece…but that’s the way it is with most restaurants…..nothing profound there just an observation. I have eaten quite a bit of catfish that’s been fried and I prefer this place because the catfish is battered correctly, cooked correctly, and is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside which everybody wants I usually get the catfish and shrimp basket with fries ….sometimes I get coleslaw or something else, I had one person tell me one time that their fries are like country boy fries are the big thick steak fries are excellent. The shrimp is butterflied and fried and just as good as any shrimp I’ve ever had and much better than your average catfish and shrimp platter. I believe they used to come with hush puppies but sometimes they don’t. I don’t know what drives that. Anyway, I highly recommend this place. I eat there at least once a month… oh, and they do have a sculpin Ipa from Ballast Point that’s really good with fried seafood. It’s just extra step they take to have this available to enjoy with their food.

Yelp
Food - VERY good! Great flavor and NOT GREASEY!!! Service - Fast and Friendly and It was a Friday lunch! Ambience - Nice! Not too crowded, it was good. Not to loud either :^) I will be coming back. BTW - the prices were very reasonable, too!

Yelp
Nice location ordered Calamari and shrimp po' boy. Calamari was crisp and hot great favor. Shrimp cowboy was great also bread was crunchy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. The shrimpbwas large and seasoned well. Tried a piece of catfish food was hot, crispy, and seasoned well. Definitely will come back again great experience.

Yelp
Best fried seafood in DFW. Great ambiance and atmosphere. Friend shrimp and catfish amazing.

Yelp
Food and service are awesome. My go to is the catfish and shrimp platter with coleslaw. The gumbo is also very good.

Perry H.

Yelp
Man... I had forgotten just how GREAT this place is I hadn't been here in a couple years but it's just as good as I remembered ! I had a late lunch around 1:15pm so I kinda missed the lunch rush Which is good Walked right up to the counter Ordered what I remember as my favorites 2 catfish fried, 4 shrimp grilled, a cup of gumbo and an iced tea mixed 50/50 PERFECT It's like I was just here yesterday If you haven't tried it you're missing out
google avatar

Yelp
Our entrees tasted excellent. The staff was cordial. The restaurant was limited in space but well-kept. I would recommend this spot.

Eliazar V.

Yelp
Ordered 2Cod 12:50 Wed and no line however the wait time was approximately 20 min The food itself was great. Lots of diners present. Pretty clean place and air conditioning.
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
The food is excellent. The service is excellent the deep fried shrimp and the deep fried grouper you tell them to cut it in small baby trunks. They turned out like butter. The oysters are fresh. The fries all in all if I could put more stars, I would highly recommend.

Natasha L.

Yelp
I honestly do not know how they have so many good reviews. I love seafood including oysters. every dish we ordered was not only disappointing but mildly disgusting. The clam chowder was thin and watery and had a wierd flavor that bordered on spoiled milk. The corn and potatoes had no sauce at all super dry potatoes and corn with a sprinkle of some not so great Cajun seasoning. No garlic, butter, literally nothing. if you like a absolutely plain boiled potatoe this might be up your ally. The friend shrimp was fine. The slaw tasted a bit spoiled as well. The fried oysters tasted so bad I actually gagged and spit it into a napkin, they were somehow mushy on the outside despite being fried and tasted cold inside.

Yelp
I finally have arrived! This place may have been my very first bookmark here on Yelp even before making reviews seriously. I have heard of their happy hour but I was craving seriously for fried fish. I made it appoint today that I'm getting catfish but never really planned on coming here. Lo and behold, my fried brain brought me here by accident and cannot be more excited to see that their parking lot isn't full which means there not much wait inside. Once you walk in, it's a true fish shack in there. The decor, the smell, and the vibe. Ordered their famous shrimp cocktail and the fish I have been dying for to eat since this morning. Took care of my cravings and can't wait to come back for more.

Yelp
Fish Shack is the Best Seafood Value in DFW! They also do a fabulous job preparing excellent ingredients. The staff is always organized and friendly. They have two locations and I highly recommend both!
google avatar

Walter W.

Yelp
Excellent place for fried catfish, shrimp, and oysters. Menu has grilled options too. Nice conversion of old Captain D's restaurant. Authentic recipes and good service. Loyal clientele proves it's a winner. Near downtown Plano and Central Expressway. It could be located on the beach and gives you that feel.
google avatar

Yelp
Always good food at Fish Shack. I come here regularly. Once you try it , you're hooked!
google avatar

Raphael F.

Yelp
This location doesn't pick up the phone for orders (always busy). And... they're not on UberEats/Doordash, etc...
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
Grilled Red Fish was good, A La carte shrimp was my pick of the day. they also serve grilled calamari that's right grilled calamari. SCRUMPTIOUS!!
google avatar

Sommer C.

Yelp
I thought it was nice experience trying this place out! Definitely good vibes, happy hour and food was decent! The service is easy, you just go right up and order! Otherwise it was good time! Definitely will go back to try other dishes!

Todd B.

Yelp
I grew up on The Island, and their seafood salad was the best I ever had. My friends all raved about their dishes. I would implore anyone to check it out--a relaxed atmosphere with quick service and a magnificent value for your money.

Carnalita L.

Yelp
The ceviche (seafood) salad is sooo good! Very copious amount of seafood tossed in the lettuce. Their catfish is really good and they serve very nice sized pieces. It's always worth the visit!

Yelp
I'm giving this 5 stars for several reasons. No, it's not the highest quality, high end seafood you're going to find in the world, but, or what it is and stands for, it deserves all 5 stars. The atmosphere is divey. Makes you kind of feel like you're sitting on the edge of the ocean and kicking your sandals off in the sand. Just ignore the fact it's in Plano, lol. Tons of condiments on the tables and a stand of horseradish and cocktail sauce! Small cozy little bar sits next to the register. A no fuss kind of place. The staff is extremely friendly, efficient, and attentive. The people that enjoy this place buzz with energy. The food. Awesome. There are a lot of friend foods buuuuuuuut the oil seems to get cleaned regularly as it does not have that burnt flavor. Loved the hush puppies. I had the grilled crab cakes. The rice and veggies it came with were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. It just can't get any better. Get there early...the proof is in the pudding...cause there's always a line.

Blue H.

Yelp
Shrimp basket had large butterfly shrimp and delicious. Liked the fries. It was extremely busy for Friday afternoon happy hour. Servers very friendly and called many customers by name.

Yelp
Tonight we enjoyed dinner at Fish Shack. The fried Oysters and French fries were delicious. The oysters were medium sized. Not huge but not too small. Light breaded in a cornmeal type batter. The Po'-boy was a little lacking tonight. We usually rave about it. They have delicious catfish. Usually cooked perfectly. Tonight it was slightly over cooked, and as you can see in the photo. The bun was slightly burned. My husband did not complain. Everyone has an off night. We eaten here many times and love this place!!!! So yes, I highly recommend. They will absolutely redo, take care of, any problem if you bring it to there attention.

Yelp
I'm irritated with myself for not coming here sooner . I've driven past this place for years and finally decided to go because I was craving a fish sandwich. I got the Grouper sandwich/ fried . I loved it . The fish was a bit thin , the bread was really soft ! Oddly enough the tartar sauce was the star of the show ! It's the best I've had ! It was creamy and rich ! Definitely ask for extra because it's great with the fries !!! I'll definitely go back !! Nice service as well !!

Darrick M.

Yelp
I just had the blackened shrimp/sausage/potato/corn boil and it was great. Just the right amount of seasoning . Looking forward to returning.

Yelp
I've been to Fish Shack several times over the past few months after my husband introduced it to me, and I've been loving it! We usually get two entrees and some soups or extra sides to share, and pretty much everything we've had has been great. My favorites are the fried catfish and the shrimp poboy -- the bread on the poboys is always perfectly toasted but still soft, and the ingredients are all super fresh. Great ratio of sauce to vegetables to protein as well; the sandwich is always stuffed full of shrimp, which is wonderfully cooked and lightly breaded with cornmeal for that extra texture. The fried catfish is breaded with the same cornmeal mix, and it's always fresh and tasty. Huge fillets in the platter. I really enjoy the fries and hush puppies too. Sometimes hush puppies can be too dry, but the ones here are great. We also love the gumbo; it's super hearty and has a lot of protein. One of the rare misses is the clam chowder. The most recent time we tried it, it had a strange tangy flavor, and the thickness almost made it taste like some beer queso concoction. Not a fan. The slaw is just okay, but the fried okra is excellent and hugely portioned. Red beans and rice also huge, and also pretty great. My husband really likes the Santorini cocktail; I'm not into cilantro, so I've only had a bit, but what I've tried has been fresh and tasted good. We sometimes get the fried oysters with the catfish and it's cool that they'll usually tuck in an extra oyster when you get the combo platter. I'd skip the cod poboy though -- it seems like they don't bread that in-house, so it's covered in a typical fish-and-chips-esque batter, which is far inferior to the usual cornmeal breading IMO. The employees here are awesome and will give us as much extra tartar sauce as we want, free of charge. One time we came by around 30 minutes before close and they were really gracious about it and said we didn't have to rush ourselves to get out before they started cleaning up. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic "local hole in the wall" place .... CONSISTENTLY great catfish, hand dipped onion rings, house made jalapeño hush puppies - heck EVERYTHING on the menu is I've been a patron for 15+ years !! Best cook corn mill breaded catfish in this area ... ** to go orders have always been spot on
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
All great food especially the salmon and veggies along with a mild shrimp cocktail! Wife enjoys grilled cod with veggies! Always a great meal whatever you order!

Cleveland H.

Yelp
I remember when this was a good restaurant. But things change. Fried catfish. The fillets are greatly reduced in size. Now 60% the size they used to be - no flavor to speak of. Somewhat tough. Definitely not fresh. Red beans and rice. Who forgot to add the meat to the recipe? Two tiny pieces of sausage in the entire bowl. Beans were undercooked - they should be soft. Why do you want a tip? I don't tip if I have to stand in line to place an order. Well, you may rebut that someone brought my food to the table. True. So does McDonald's.

Yelp
Overall a solid seafood restaurant! We loved the warm and welcoming family restaurant atmosphere. The fried platters seem to be the most popular dish ordered there. Many people get the fish one. We were craving crawfish but were told they are not in season right now. Very sad day. So we ended up with the blackened shrimp platter which was great. The shrimp was fresh, and the flavor was there. The gumbo on the other hand, was a little lukewarm, and had some sausages and small shrimps. We had to add hot sauce to make it taste better. I would not order it again. My favorite was the hush puppies- perfectly seasoned batter and crispy on the outside. 1000/10!!

Yelp
Really good food at a reasonable price. Ambiance was good for the experience definitely not a dress up place
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
Haven't been there in a while but always great food. Again have not been their in awhile. I'm a senior, hsve no money for luxury items such as eating out.

Donald C.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. The breaded butterflied shrimp was fresh, lightly battered and very tasty, the cod basket was a little greasy and the onion rings were just right. Breading was not over seasoned. Food outweighed the ambience
google avatar

Dominic B.

Yelp
Excellent - Hush Puppies Decent - Oyster Po boy Service - Friendly and timely Atmosphere - Appropriate for a seafood restaurant
google avatar

Yelp
First time ordering from Fish Shack. Always wanted to in past 25 years. I used UberEats and food was ready and delivered in a timely fashion. Delicious Food!

Clarice C.

Yelp
Went to Fish Shack to celebrate my mom's birthday since she loves seafood. 3 stars because the area where we were seated was hot and miserable, I felt so bad for my mom and husband. A worker came and attempted to fix/adjust the air but it didn't help. My husband went thru at least 10 paper towels wiping sweat. Food was good along with service at the counter. Not sure about returning at least not for a special occasion like my elderly mother's birthday.
google avatar

Ngoc T.

Yelp
Always the best! Our go-to catfish joint and the folks here serve up great food and service.
google avatar

Jacqueline W.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere of this little place. The food was tasty and fresh. I should have ordered more things to try, but next time I'll catch a drink or a specialty item off the menu. The staff were very friendly. Someone offered me a drink while I waited for my order. Nice!
google avatar

Jenn C.

Yelp
Remembering that MANY years ago the building currently housing Fish Shack started its life as a Long John Silvers, it seems fitting for a fish joint to be located here today. Fish Shack, however, is in a far superior league than any LJS! The food here is ALWAYS fresh and ALWAYS good. My personal favorite is the fish tacos... tilapia (grilled, blackened, or fried) served with hot corn tortillas, light and fluffy rice, tangy cole slaw, and sliced avocado. My husband likes everything on the menu, so it'd be hard for him to pick a favorite. We usually start with calamari, an order easily shareable. It is lightly battered and cooked to perfection. The shrimp cocktail is also another favorite starter. The iced tea is always freshly brewed, but there are plenty of beer and wine choices if desired. It's great to have a local, family owned restaurant that serves the community well and provides consistently excellent food. No white tablecloths, just good eats and friendly staff. The owner always calls us by name and remembers to ask about our dogs. Whenever we're hungry for good seafood, we don't need to drive to the coast. We only need drive across town to Fish Shack!
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
I've been eating at this place for at least 15 years. Their food is delicious and their oysters on the half shell are always large. Everything I've ever eaten here is awesome and I highly recommend them. Frank is the owner and he is an awesome guy!

Mack S.

Yelp
I was eagerly awaiting crawfish and although Fish Shack was higher priced than other restaurants in the area, I ordered a pound. Was very disappointed. The crawfish were nice size, however, they had almost no taste. It was if they had been boiled in pure water with spice added at the end. In fact, they were sort of swimming in clear liquid at the bottom of the tray. I travel So La for years and no stranger to crawfish. No rookie, and know good from bad. Normally we really enjoy the Fish Shack, but we had another couple with us, and it was their first time, so I decided the not make and issue in front of them. I hope this was one time fluke, but it sure changed my perception of the Fish Shack and making recommendations in the future.

John C.

Yelp
Great food and better customer service. We eat there once a week at least. It's the go to for our shop and employees!
google avatar

Melanie G.

Yelp
Overrated, I opine Texans have no concept of what excellent seafood is and seafood prepared with flavor. This food wasn't good ot was over priced and simply horrible waste of my time and gas. The service we nice. You'd do much much better going to Krogers seafood dept get whatever you like go home cooked it with some ole bay seafood seasoning, pour some beer in the pot and wahla you have flavor. Very simple thank me later
google avatar

D'Ann K.

Yelp
We should have known how good this was going to be by the overflow parking. It became evident when we stepped inside and saw the line. The couple in front of us have been coming for years. We had two of the fried baskets, 3 piece catfish and 6 piece coconut shrimp. We also had a side of hush puppies. The catfish was fresh, with no fishy smell. It was a great fry, with no greasy feel or taste. It was very flaky and served very hot, as we think it just came out of the fryer. The coconut shrimp were very tasty. You could tell they were house made. The hush puppies were fresh, hot and crispy. Again not greasy. They had a sweetness to them that reminded me of cornbread from my childhood. We are definitely going back and will work our way through their menu. Oh.. get a draft beer, as it goes well with the fresh fish.
google avatar

Jack R.

Yelp
Simply THE BEST fried catfish, hush puppies, and all around casual shrimp and southern seafood restaurant.
google avatar

Stephen J.

Yelp
So my friend who is visiting wanted some crab legs but didn't want the bag style places that we typically find around these parts. Just wanted a good ole seafood place; well we definitely did find it. For the price you get some pretty good portions. There is nothing fancy here just good quality seafood. I got the 2 Catfish filets and 4 fried shrimp with steak fries. The catfish was friend to perfection and so was the shrimp. My only complaint is that there wasn't much seasoning (if any at all) in the breading but nothing a little hit sauce couldn't fix. The portions were a good size as you can see by the picture. Plus it was only $11 so you aren't paying an arm and a leg. My friend got the Dungeness crab legs and they had plenty of meat in them for her to enjoy. My partner got the crab cake and it was on the darker end (I don't know if it was their breading that turned it dark or what) but he still enjoyed it. They have plenty of selections here for everyone in the family to pick from and have wine and beer selections for the adults to enjoy. We got there at about 6:15 and right afterwards a major rush hit (probably about 20-30!people came in within 30 mins) but didn't seem like they waited long for their meals. Overall I would recommend this place if you are looking for a no frills seafood place with good prices. It's a solid 4 but if they added some seasoning to their breading it could easily be a 5.
google avatar

Yelp
Main reasons why you should definitely consider trying the Fish Shack out: Value: You get plenty of seafood at a completely fair price point. Convenience: Walk right in and up to the counter to place your order, sit wherever you like, and even if it looks really busy don't expect to wait more than five minutes for your food. I was very impressed with the speed of service. I was fairly hungry when I ordered, so I ended up getting two of the fried baskets. I got a basket of frog legs and a basket of 12 fried oysters. Each basket comes with the choice to either fries, onion rings, or coleslaw. I will admit that it was a lot of fried food, but it was all breaded nicely and tasted great. The coleslaw wasn't anything amazing but I've definitely had way way worse before. My friends all got different things but again, the portions all seemed great. This is definitely a great place to go if you want to share among people. I was sort of expecting the vegetable to meat ratio to be a lot of veggies, but it was honestly mainly fish, or shrimp, or crawfish, etc... One of my friends decided to get 12 of the half shelled raw oysters. I admit that not everyone can deal with the texture of oysters, but if you can I think you'll really enjoy the ones at the Fish Shack. I'm from a pacific coast state, so I've had my fair share of fresh oysters. I know that the ones we had at the Fish Shack were fresh and delicious, some of the best I've had if I am being honest. Will most definitely keep this spot on my radar for next time I am in town!
google avatar

Sara H.

Yelp
Friends recommended this place for dinner, they love it. I'm not the biggest seafood lover but everything here was delicious and fresh! The staff members were nice, service was pretty quick, and the food was hot and flavorful. The boiled shrimp and shrimp tacos were my favorite!
google avatar

Jasmine T.

Yelp
Fish Shack is a cute little establishment tucked off the side of 15th street in Plano. I've driven by so many times and finally decided to stop. I ordered a catfish basket with fries, hush puppies, and a side salad. I took advantage of their daily special which saved me a few $$. The proportions are HUGE which was very welcoming! The catfish was underwhelming to me. The crust wasn't crunchy and the filet was falling apart. The fries were basic but good. The hush puppies were the star of the show. They had great flavor, crunch, and spice. The salad was your basic side salad you get a every restaurant. The serve alcoholic beverages which in my opinion pairs wonderfully with seafood. There's seating both inside and out. They are COVID secure wearing mask and seating every other table. All in all I personally won't return. I'm from Louisiana and I am extremely biased and particular on my catfish. However, I believe it's worth a try!
google avatar

Jake W.

Yelp
Did the oyster po' boy with hush puppies and crab cakes. The po' boy had great taste but was very light on the oysters, some bites had none at all and most bites had one or a partial. They were fried perfectly and the bread for the sandwich is amazing. Crab cakes were ok but a bit tough and the remoulade was delicious and definitely worth getting a side of for your po' boy. Hush puppies are round and lightly sweet with some visible corn in them and are tasty hot or later on cold. Solid for what it is but was lacking some with the filling of the sandwiches all the way around the table.

Jarren M.

Yelp
Great Fish, and a wonderful staff. Drinks are always on point. Chicken wings are always a go.
