Fishbar Monk - Visrestaurant Haarlem

Overall a good experience, but several details fell short of what one would expect from a restaurant with this image. For example, just little things, cutlery not changed between courses (from raw fish to steak), and while the service was very friendly, it lacked professionalism. The cuisine was quite good, though the portion of the softshell crab—just two tiny bashed pieces for EUR 17 (see photo)— a bit underwhelming.

I've dined a few times now at Fishbar Monk and had an overall enjoyable culinary experience. This seafood restaurant excels in delivering fresh, delicious dishes that are a treat for the taste buds. While the food was exceptional, I did find some dishes to be on the smaller side and a bit pricey for the portion sizes. The atmosphere was quite noisy, with the restaurant bustling with activity. At times, it was difficult to hold a conversation. Despite this minor drawback, the quality of the food made it well worth the visit. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and eager to ensure that every guest had a memorable dining experience. They were more than happy to provide recommendations and answer any questions about the menu. In conclusion, Fishbar Monk is a delightful spot for seafood lovers. The noisy atmosphere and smaller, pricier dishes are small prices to pay for the outstanding food and service. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a quality seafood dining experience in the NL. I will definitely be returning.

The Pasta di Mare was delicious, shellfish cooked just right, not overdone (sooo important with seafood), sauce light and flavourful. Server Marlie was professional, friendly and helpful, and made sure I had what I needed. The staff were pleasant and seemed to enjoy being there. I’m not surprised this is the best seafood restaurant in Haarlem!

We had dinner on the terrace outside on a Wednesday night. I had the tuna steak which was cooked well and tasted great in a ginger sauce. Staff are young and a bit inexperienced but friendly and attentive. When it got busier it got a bit harder to grab their attention though. We haven't been inside so I can't say much about the ambiance there.

While prices may lean towards the higher end, every euro spent felt justified with each bite of their extraordinary dishes. The tartare was an absolute standout, bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. A visit to Fishbar Monk is a culinary journey worth indulging in, where impeccable service meets exquisite seafood delights. A definite five-star gem in Haarlem!

Came here as part of the tasty walk. Great, fresh oysters. Not usually a fan of toppings on my oysters but the ponzu cucumber topping was top. Menu looks great and would like to come back to try some dishes. Unfortunately, wine menu was rather limited, specifically the sparkling wines. Maybe they had another wine list, I am not sure. Removed 1 star as the service was really not present. Took a long time to get the attention of the staff.

I had a lovely dinner here with my wife. The food was amazing! We had more than enough, and the staff was very friendly. cozy yet busy atmosphere, and eating at the bar is possible. Don't forget to ask for the daily price, I regrettably didn't.

Love the atmosphere and ambiance but food could be better. We decided to try it out a second time around but to be honest I was not impressed the second time around. They need to step up their game in the kitchen. However great atmosphere.
