Another amazing Art Deco building with impressive metal works, mosaics, etc. There was some construction in front of the building and not many retailers inside but we went for the architecture and it was fantastic. About a 12-15 minute walk or 2 minute drive from the Motown museum.

I visited the Fisher theater to see Hell's kitchen the life story of Alicia keys. The theater is beautiful parking was plentiful getting into the theater was easy seating was nice and they even had hot coffee

Google
The Fisher Building is a gorgeous place to visit in detroit with some shops to check out and a theatre inside. The main draw is the stunning beauty of this building inside and out. It’s free to enter and look around and it’s truly a masterpiece. They don’t build like this anymore.

Google
Wonderful tour of an indescribable building. Wow! Every where you look the attention and detail that was built into this structure is phenomenal. The Fisher Building can not truely be appreciated without a tour. You will not regret it.

The architecture and art in this building is beautiful. If you look up while there, there is so much to see. The decorations are great. It is a very cool place to visit

After enjoying lunch at a nearby restaurant, we decided to walk down to the Fisher Building because we were told it's a beautiful building that we should check out. This building gave me very European vibes, like Italian ones, based on the details. The ceiling, the details, etc were great. There are various shops throughout the Fisher Building. Everything from a bookstore to a ladies store to a Born in the D shop. If you're out and about in this area, check it out. The theatre in this building also features fantastic plays, so consider that next time you're in this area. 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Google
Highly recommend a tour of this beautiful building. Many photo ops of the incredible architecture. Jacob was the tour guide and he was awesome. Very educated with his knowledge about the history of the Fisher Building. A funny and good dude. -Chris Slonske

Google
Another one of Detroit’s most beautiful buildings to check out. The interior architecture is stunning. There are some really nice clothing stores, gifts shops and a convenience store inside. And of course you can view what is playing at the Fisher theatre and enjoy a show. Highly recommend stopping here whether you live in Michigan or are visiting.

Yelp
The Fisher Building was completed in 1928 honored with a silver medal in architecture in 1929 by the Architecture League of New York. Currently, it's an office building with a theater showing Broadway quality shows, and some shops and restaurants on the ground floor. One of the most recognizable sights on Detroit's skyline, the building is also known as "The Golden Tower." The original gold-leaf tiles on the tower were covered with asphalt during WWII for fear of bombing. Following the war the damaged gold tiles were replaced with green terra cotta tiles that are illuminated gold at night.

Yelp
I came here for the first time over the weekend as a photographer, hired to shoot a new models portfolio. The security guards were pleasant and jovial. The inside of the building is a gem! I didn't do any shopping because I was there to work, but I will DEF be back - not only to check out the shops, but also to take in the amazing art that is The Fisher Building. * Retouched photos to come soon! *

Yelp
Truly baller building with glorious, beautiful architecture inside and out as well as cool shops like a bookstore, drug store / pharmacy, coffee shop, French patisserie, several clothing stores, a salon and a theater considered to be Detroit's Broadway where you can catch all manner of musicals, plays, concerts, conversations, and other shows. A Detroit landmark as well as treasure and a definite must see if you are in the city!

Yelp
The building is beautiful. I love all of the ornate details, like the ceiling art, the flooring, so many tiny things to look at, especially if you are into architecture. I truly have been coming here since I was a child, and now so has my entire family, the kids grew up going to the theater here. I have been to the theater, I love the little drug store that sells yummy snacks, it has saved us so many times. I have also been to some unique parties in the lobby here, and have had tons of fun! I am sad there are not enough businesses that are not only open, but open during theater times. I used to love the coffee shop here to grab a drink and a bite before or after the theater. I would love to see other places to eat and shop, especially since there is not a lot of places to walk to around this area. I do like the location as far as someone who drives in from outside the city. It is near the expressway. I also like the on site parking, but parking used to be a bit easier. I know they do not charge to park if you have tickets, but the online system can be a challenge, especially for older, lower tech savy customers. Overall, it is the best place to see plays and musicals, and I wish more were here instead of the opera house.

Yelp
As we walked in the Fisher Building, there were several areas in the lobby level where there we photo shoots going on. Two separate bridal couple taking photos. Also, model shoots near the Christmas Tree as well as the stair area to the second floor. Marble floors, gold elevators with unique designs, and entrance to the theater showing Wicked. Unique art deco design. Shopping area with items you do not find elsewhere.

Yelp
The Historical Fisher Building. If time travel was possible, I would have liked to see this building in its prime. In an era, when people still dressed classy, it would be an experience to experience the 1920s & 30s. There are multiple matches for Fisher Building, including a 30-story office building in Detroit, Michigan and a 20-story landmark building in Chicago, Illinois. The Fisher Building in Detroit is a 30-story Art Deco-style building designed by Albert Kahn and completed in 1928. The Fisher brothers, who founded the Fisher Body Corporation in 1908, financed the building with money from the sale of Fisher Body to General Motors. The building is made of limestone, granite, and marble and is nicknamed "Detroit's largest art object". It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989 and won a silver medal in architecture in 1929. Info from Google A.I.

Yelp
The Fisher Building is iconic, historical, and a must see. The fresco ceilings, marble walls, bronze doors, and art deco chandeliers are incredible to see! Everything is stunning, well maintained, and the details are fascinating. Pure Detroit, a fabulous store inside the Fisher Building, offers tours of the building. Our guide, Jacob, led us through the building and told stories from its history. We learned about the family, artists, and architects involved in its creation. The hour long tour also provided us access to the building which is unavailable to the general public. We were allowed to see different levels/floors and take in the wonderful views. You can sign up and claim free tickets through the Pure Detroit website/Eventbrite page.

Yelp
My friend brought me for a visit and walkthrough of here when I came visiting from out of town. It was my first time in Detroit, and the building is a gorgeous old art deco building from the golden age of Detroit at the height of the automobile industry. I could imagine this being THE place to go in the old days, with all the gold and beautiful interior. It has been called "Detroit's largest art object," and I can see why. If you appreciate architecture, this is definitely a place worth checking out.

Yelp
At Christmas, this is a MUST for holiday photos! (And you can still do that during COVID!) And for holiday shopping at The Peacock Room, where I have ALWAYS found something irresistible The Fisher is a Detroit icon

Yelp
My brother and I were visiting Detroit for a weekend, and we're both sort of architecture nerds. When I learned about Pure Detroit's FREE architecture tours, I wanted to do them all. We were able to squeeze in the tours of the Fisher Building and Guardian Building. The Pure Detroit tour of the Fisher building was great and SO WORTH IT. Our tour guide was excellent - very knowledgeable and funny. And the building was fascinating. Designed by Detroit's most famous architect Albert Kahn, it's a very ornate, 30-story building in the Art Deco style. The building has FORTY kinds of marble, 21 elevators, and stunning frescos. If you don't have time for the tour (although I highly recommend it), you can just walk in and explore it yourself. The building still has many shops, so it's open to the public to explore on the main levels!

Yelp
What a wonderful feat of architecture. This building exudes exuberance and excess. It's a true testament to the sheer volume of money flowing through the auto industry in Detroit at the time. No detail is too small to be missed. The building is made of solid stone - marble, granite, etc. and gilded edge to edge in brass, bronze, and copper. You can even spot the marbling in the facade from ground level outside all the way to the top. I imagine in it's heyday housing the offices of Fisher Automotive, it was a bustling center of business. These days, though, it seems like it might be a good bit quieter. There's an arrangement of companies housing their offices on various floors. On the main floor you see a lot of folks like me marveling at the cavernous halls, beautifully mosaiced walls, and colorful high ceilings with their rows of hanging chandeliers. There's also a decent assortment of retail shops occupying space on the main hall. Several clothing stores - nothing name brand - and a kitschy cafe. On a trip to sightsee in Detroit, this building needs to be on your list, never mind the neighborhood.

Yelp
A grand old art deco office building and theatre from the golden age of Detroit. Very limited pay street parking, nearby pay lots and garages. Inside is a grand, gold and old metal, grand office building with store fronts everywhere. About half the store fronts are vacant, about 30% more appear to have closed long term for covid. They have the cool local and express elevator banks from the 20s, but about half are out of order. Security guards stationed near all entrances. There are no storefronts remaining open on the concourse level, there was a place to eat but it appears covid killed it. The tunnel to the Kahn building is locked and the tunnel to the old GM HQ now Cadillac Place requires an state employee ID to use.

Yelp
I enjoyed learning the history of the building from our guide Jacob. It was an entertaining and highly informative tour. I highly recommend it! What a gorgeous building!

Riley T.

Yelp
Was denied access to the public or employee restrooms by the supervisor dispite having ulcerative colitis and a "I can't wait" bathroom pass. I was kicked out of the building over needing to go to the bathroom because of my condition. They had security follow me out like I was a criminal and all I needed to do was use the restroom. The staff needs to be educated on the michigan access act and I encourage everyone to avoid going there until that education is provided so you don't get yelled at and laughed at by the supervisor for having a chronic illness that requires access to the restroom.

Yelp
The Fisher Building is a must see stop if you are visiting Detroit. It houses both offices and retail stores. My favorite boutique in the Fisher is Shy vs Bold which carries unique clothing and gift items at affordable prices. The Fisher Theatre is also a wonderful venue in which to see a Broadway show.

Yelp
Majestic Gorgeous place Cute little shops Sadly coffee and bakery shops were closed but the building is so well kept and adorable

Yelp
Go for the guided tour.. You won't be disappointed.. The architecture and history of the place is compelling. It's sad that Detroit is now what it is. It used to me such a marvelous place but the history and look of the Fisher building

Yelp
The Fisher Building is beautiful! It also has many great little shops. My friend and I stopped by recently just before Christmas to check our the video games and popup beer garden. It was super fun. The only problem was we had to park on the street which was less expensive but I would have felt safer if the structure was open and we could have parked there instead of a deserted street.

Yelp
What an absolutely beautiful building. If I were a photographer in Detroit, I would always want to take pictures here. There are so many glorious details throughout the building that it would be worth visiting many times just so you could see all the things you missed on other trips there. An Art Deco gen and must see! Best vantage points are from 2nd and 3rd floods and some really fab shops here. Worth the trip outside the immediate downtown!
google avatar

Yelp
What an amazing building!! Amazing detail was put into this place! If you love architecture this is something youd love to see!

Yelp
This is always a good venue to see shows at, the only issue is the seating is not designed for tall people, so it lost 1 Star. And yes, I know people were not tall back in the day or whatever, but they could update there seats and just charge more. People will pay for comfort.

Yelp
I actually only spent no more than 15 minutes in the building because I only had time to pick up a prize package for a Yelp Event. However, my brief time spent in the Fisher Building made me wish I put a little more quarters into my parking meter. I'll definitely have to come back with my camera and the free tour-when we're not in the middle of a pandemic of course.

Yelp
What's not to love about the Fisher building? I remember as kid knowing that some of the local radio stations were located here on the top floors, and always had a vision of what it looked like as I got older. I remember driving by this place when my family and I would go downtown as a kid, and that people would come here for performances over the years. I came here to see Motown the Musical last night, and absolutely loved being inside this gorgeous theatre. From the moment you walk in, you can see the beauty of the building, with all the décor from the floors all the way up to the painted ceilings. There's lots of history in this building, and even though I don't know much about it, it really is beautiful. The theatre itself is of good size with about 2,000 seats her. It's split into three sections- a main floor, a balcony and an upper balcony up top. I sat near the front in the lower balcony, and I could see everything just fine. Great acoustics, plenty of room to sit and move around, along with ushers to help you find your seats. I walked around a little bit before and after the show, and noticed a few things while I was here. (mind you, I've been here before, but I enjoy seeing stuff like this, so I took my time getting in and out of the theatre with my mom while seeing this show.) For starters, they have a few nice shops and eateries in here. They also have a Detroit shoppe store located in here as well as a few boutiques. They have offices in the top parts of the building for people doing other business here. I've come here before to see some office space when an organization had an open house a few months ago. Very nice and seems to be well kept considering how old this building is. The bathrooms were located in the lower level and inside the theatre area. Lots of stairs to climb, even though they have elevators which I chose not to use because everyone was packed in like sardines. The downstairs bathroom has an attendant, with lotions, body sprays and other stuff to freshen up. Plenty of stalls and mirrors to give yourself a quick pick me up before or after a show. (who wants to look crappy after a show and go to dinner like that?) I'd gladly run downstairs and give myself a quick hairbrush and some body spray in a second! Also, theirs free parking here, at least when I was here for a show. I don' t know about during the week to do business, as I've parked in a lot before as well. Overall a great beautiful building with lots to see and do!

Monica S.

Yelp
Beautiful building. Excellent tour. Jacob, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and engaging. Highly recommend a visit.

Yelp
What a gorgeous work of art! Stepping inside this building is like stepping back in time to the Art Deco era. The free tour given is pretty informative about the history of how the building came to be and the Fischer family. Seeing all the gorgeous details of this building was super cool. Definitely recommend for anyone into architecture or Art Deco. The only thing I'd change about the tour was the view at the end. I wish we would've gone higher or possibly even the roof top, if possible. Tour guide was great though, funny and informative. I'm so glad this gorgeous building is still around and hopefully here to stay for many years to come-it's a true gem in the city of Detroit!

Laura W.

Yelp
If you only have time for one guided tour this is it!! Jacob led a behind the scenes 1 hour tour of the astounding fisher building, providing historical background, and some laughs. I've taken this tour repeatedly and see/ learn something new each time. A must for visitors and locals. 10 out of 10

Yelp
Such a beautiful building! I took my son this year during the holidays to look at the indoor decorations. The giant Christmas tree was a hit and we were able to walk around in a warm environment and bask in the lights. We stopped by a few places, including the Peacock Room for some gift browsing. When tours reopen, I can't wait to take one.

Yelp
This event was amazing! So many great options, and the Fischer building is beautiful. It was a very well put together event for the Hall of Whiskey.
google avatar

Liz P.

Yelp
How have I not reviewed the Fisher Building by now? Lately I've been going here more than the Fox lately for shows, and this week I saw Blue Man Group there (fantastic show, by the way!). I'm also going back next week for The Illusionists. The building is beautiful, and the parking is FREE (comes with the cost of your ticket) and is attached. One of my annoyances about the Fox is that I usually park at Greektown and take the People Mover (vs. paying $15-20 to park nearby) to/from the station closest to the Fox. The Fisher avoids all that. Venus is also very nice and can seat many people. Check out the ceilings too, some great artwork there.
google avatar

Becki B.

Yelp
What a gorgeous building! I never realized before that it isn't just a landmark building, but one of Detroit's first shopping malls. Wow! On our way in from the parking garage there were a few glass display windows for some of the different stores inside, and a couple with old newspaper articles and tidbits about the history and evolution of the Fisher Building. We were here for a matinee performance at the theatre, and it seemed most of the people we saw were also in the building for the performance. I'd almost like to go back another time to see everything through different eyes, with a different crowd. While we were initially a little concerned about parking since we didn't want to break the bank over it, and it was too cold for me to want to walk far, parking in the garage right next to the building was only $5. Another handy note: If you need an ATM once you get there, there's one on the main floor, but there's a credit union one downstairs (which won't charge fees for credit union members).

Yelp
Went on the Pure Detroit tour of the Fisher Building yesterday. Very cool and informative! And it's free :)
google avatar

Susan L.

Yelp
Although I feel the Fisher Building isn't as gorgeous as the Guardian Building, it's still quite beautiful and it's a superb example of art deco architecture. My dentist's office was in the Fisher Building, so I went there a few times/year for almost three years. I was always in awe of that building; it's really special!

Gabriel P.

Yelp
This place is amazing it's like a smaller version of the Empire State building in New York l. I totally recommend seeing it!!
google avatar

Patsy R.

Yelp
Love this building! Not just for all the wonderful musicals I've attended, but I always go early to browse the many shops and coffee and treat businesses . I especially love the Peacock shop with all their lovely period dresses , shawls and jewelry. There is also a tour of the builder daily. So do come early or just come and see what this beautiful building has to offer.

Yelp
The Fisher Building is a gorgeous 30 floor lavish Art Deco building that houses businesses such as Pure Detroit and Vera Jane. I was looking at it with a friend, and he mentioned that it reminded him of the Cathedral of Learning in Pittsburgh. Standing below it from the outside and looking up is breathtaking (totally not corny, I swear). My sociology class took a look at this building when we were surveying Detroit, and it definitely lives up to its visual reputation. It took millioins of dollars to build, and much of the money went into the artwork and also high quality materials. The Fisher brothers didn't want to mess around with this one. When you walk in, you see majestic curved ceilings, bronze and marble detail. It is probably one of the most beautiful buildings in Detroit -- among those also being the Guardian Building. Even if you are not going to shop inside this indoor arcade-like atmosphere, you should at least drop in to walk down the halls. It is a representation of the historic Detroit's successful auto industry.

Vicki A.

Yelp
Take the Fisher Building tour with Pure Detroit! You won't be disappointed!! Extremely informational and the free tour is a great deal. Easy to find and the guide was very good!!
google avatar

Benny B.

Yelp
Wow. Ghost town. Stopped in while in Detroit on business. Walked around town and were the only people period around. The fisher building. Omg completely empty. Security guard was shocked to see us walk in. Said the only thing to see that's interesting is the ceiling. Lol. Asked where the people were. There all gone he was helpful though directed us to the free Q line to greektown. The only place in Detroit with people.
google avatar

Nadya R.

Yelp
Mom, my sister Marty & I climbed on the bus once a year to go see the meanest dentist on earth, Dr. McBride, in the Fisher Building. He only knew one word, "Shuddup!" He didn't believe in Novocain and took a perverse delight in drilling our baby teeth as viciously as possible. Whenever we passed by the Fisher Building, we let out a prolonged, anguished howl. The building seemed cavernous back then, in the late 40s, and looking at the photos today, it still looks YUUUGE!
google avatar

Celeste B.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful! Didn't know they had retail shops and coffee places inside! We were only there briefly but this beautiful piece of architecture is definitely worth seeing!! The fisher theatre is here as well. Beautiful and well kept up building! It's a piece of Detroit history!
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
If you're inerested in Architecture & the Art Deco period this is a gem not to be missed! Since you had to find a place to park off of the street to go in you might as well sign up for the FREE tour in the Pure Detroit shop - it's well worth the 30-45 minute time spent. Very interesting & informative. Really gives you a feel for how this building came into existence and how much of a showcase & innovation it was at the time. If you just can't spend that much time, even just a walk through the lobby is a beautiful way to spend a few minutes to enjoy the views! You won't find very many buildings of this caliber, nor in this good a condition these days.
google avatar

Lynn H.

Yelp
The largest piece of art in Detroit! And the theatre offers Broadway-style plays like "The Book of Mormon". I'm pretty sure this can't be beat.
google avatar

Danuta G.

Yelp
Beautiful. As an avid fan of history and architecture, this was a must do on my trip to Detroit. Take the Pure Detroit free tour, and go upstairs where you get an amazing view of the city. In a city that is unfortunately often associated with abandoned buildings, the Fisher building stands as a work of art. It is immaculately conserved and the amount of design, detail, and money that went into its creation is astonishing. The tour provides tons of information about the buildings and its role in Detroit's history. To walk through and imagine what it was like when it was one of the country's first shopping malls is quite the experience.
google avatar

Peggah G.

Yelp
For me, "The New Center Area" of Detroit is pretty much defined by the Fisher Building. It's such a beautiful building. I can't imagine how glorious it would have looked with the original copper roof, but now at night, it still looks pretty fabulous. When I was younger, I would know that we were close to home, because I could see the Fisher Building. I don't remember experiencing it so much when I was living in Detroit, but going there for various Taste/Cityfests and a few plays, it has really been a wonderful treat. The ceiling alone is worth 5 stars. I could easily spend hours looking at its beauty. It houses quite a few businesses, but I've never really spent much time going through them.
google avatar

Billy H.

Yelp
The Fisher Building is one of my favorite buildings in the D. Every time I walking through the lobby I find myself in complete awe. The building is too beautiful describe with words. You have to experience its beauty first hand. In addition to the Fisher Building, the New Center Area is home to several other Albert Kahn buildings worth checking out: Cadillac Place and the namesake Albert Kahn building. You can take several SMART bus lines to New Center Area, as well as drive (ample parking). I also look forward to the new light rail line that will start in New Center Area and end in Downtown!
google avatar

Martha S.

Yelp
Excellent free tour of this landmark! Takes about an hour and the docent was very knowledgeable and entertaining! Experience marred only at the very end when the young lady clerk in the gift shop asked to hold my coat which she put behind the counter . Guess I must look like a homeless shoplifter (this site borders a sketchy area) cause she didn't offer to take anyone else's coat. Wtf!!
google avatar

Shannon M.

Yelp
This building is a gem. Do yourself a favor-native michigander- take the Pure Detroit free tour. Then take it again. The history and majesty of this place is worth every second. Take the time to view all the beauty you are standing in. The craftsmanship is remarkable for the amount of time it took them to build. Take your camera and rake pictures. Tell your friends Detroit usnt scsry, is a place of history.

Brice G.

Yelp
Beautiful building. I did the pure Michigan tour. I would highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys beautiful buildings.

Yelp
A lovely building, but it would be nice if the elevators in the parking deck would ever work!!!!
