Fisher's Dockside at Orange Beach Marina

We had dinner for four and had to wait a few minutes at the bar. The bar service was good with drinks coming quickly. Dinner was fairly quick as well. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The view is fairly good if you can get the right seats. We will definitely be going back. UrbanCowgill June 2022

I'm not a picky person but I feel compelled to share my experience, it was that bad. I ordered the surf and turf. The shrimp was salty but edible. The ribeye which i ordered medium was not cooked enough but I didn't want to send it back because I had already sent the Brussel sprouts back and I don't mind a medium rare/rare steak. The Brussel sprouts tasted like grease or something and were burnt. They were unedible. I'm so disappointed that I paid over $30 and left hungry. They need a new cook..I will never go back.

This was our second visit to Fisher’s Dockside, the first visit being fine for a group of six. For starters, please know our server was delightful, prompt, and professional. Wait times for food and beverage were short. The people there were great! We were seated on Thursday evening at 6:30 or so, with no wait. The $13 frozé was very acidic/citrusy and not my favorite. The smoked tuna dip app was a huge portion and delicious. Served with toasted sesame wafers. The best part of the meal. The $32 surf and turf was what we both ordered. The blackened shrimp were tasty, if nothing special. The issue we had was that the steaks (which were over cooked but edible - no biggie) were served over many of the fries, making them soggy. In addition, the steaks didn’t have much seasoning, and since my ordered medium was cooked to well done (no pink), I asked for some steak sauce - and was told they do not keep ANY steak sauce around. Weird. I was disappointed that there wasn’t an option to cure these ills in seasoning and moisture. The people and the atmosphere passed the vibe check, but the entree and frozé left us disappointed. We love sister restaurant Playa, but will pass on Fisher’s next time around.

Best meal in Gulf Shores area!!!! Great service! Loved the whole experience! Best shrimp and grits I have ever tasted!

Funday Friday with a fellow local at Fishers. The doors were down and provided a cool, yet Beachy environment. Enjoyed the bambuzzel cocktail- nice and refreshing! Along with Parmesan Fries (yum), pimento n cheese and pork rinds (yum) and black eyed pea hummus (good- not great).

Food was awesome the service was terrible. We got seated with out menus. Then about ten minutes the host drops all the forks and knives for us to pass out for a party on 14. It took a long time to order our food. I got a burger 🍔

Fantastic place for families. Anna made us feel like part of the family, showing my kids where to feed the fish and taking time to know us. The food was exceptional and accommodating. My son didn’t like the spicy tuna and the kitchen made him a new one plain.

We had a wonderful time and dinner, Melody was incredible. The chef (John) visited our table not once but twice asking us about our service and food. We are planning a trip back in July and was given some wonderful advice about how best for our party to setup dinner for a bigger party. The bad news was when we were told the Loco Moca (pinwheel ribeye) was being removed from the menu, this was an amazing entree and needs to be rethought. We had 1/3 of our party order this entree and we all tasted it and said we would order in the future. Great drinks and food, outdoor dining next to the docks was a great April Saturday Evening. We will be back !

This is a nice spot st a marina, with views of the boats and water. The beer selection was limited, (3 or 4) but we found something. I had the fried seafood platter which had plenty of shrimp, oysters and grouper. It also had a deviled crab which I gave away! Everything was great (except the deviled crab.) My wife had the Tuna special which loved when they were located in Florida Our waiter was hard to hear. He would stand behind you and ask questions which made it difficult..

After two lunches here I am downgrading the downstairs to 3 stars. Spent $81 for three folks with no alcohol on today's lunch. Kind of awkward to check in, get a menu, sit down, decide your order and go back to front desk to order. If you want a beer or cocktail they add another step and make you go to the bar for a separate transaction. If you want soda or iced tea you walk all the way across the restaurant to get it and refills too. Sushi rolls are good and plentiful so I give them a 4-4.5. My tuna salad was a 3. Plenty of ahi tuna but they oversoak the greens with dressing and leave the rest of the salad soggy. We ordered a hush puppy app and they came out raw. The redone versions were too dry with zero flavor as described on the menu. This is the second app ordered in two trips and neither rate higher than a 2. Atmosphere is good right on the Marina. Might try the upstairs part next time as it is full service and has a somewhat different menu.

I had Tuna appetizer it was delicious warning large portion! Overall good food and service glad they are back!!!

Everything was great as usual! Our server "Special", did an excellent job making everything was just right. We had friends join us and they enjoyed it also!! Food was also very good

Happy to go back to Shipps for the Tuna special tonight. Upgraded to a wedge salad (5) but it was a house salad. Tuna was excellent. ! This was a takeout order so didn't realize until I got home.

Please ask for "Special " she is an outstanding personal waitress. We had a fabulous filet that was marvelous, tender, and juicy. The restaurant is pretty and a nice location.

Was so excited to try this place since Fisher's was my most favorite in OBA. We booked a table for upstairs, and all the wait staff were super friendly! We started with crab claws and the "Shipp-faced" cocktail and an Aperol spritz. All were very good! All together we tried the Mahi mahi, swordfish, oysters (Cajun & Rockefeller), crab bisque, and the wedge salad. Both the mahi and the swordfish were overcooked and under seasoned. The swordfish was meant to come with "pineapple salsa, coconut butter, & toasted coconut." The pineapple salsa was not made with fresh pineapple, and there was no coconut flavor whatsoever. Oysters and crab bisque were good, but not the greatest we've ever had. Wedge salad was phenomenal. House-made dressing and crispy onions made this my personal favorite of the whole meal! All in all, it is definitely a jump from Fisher's. Dockside dining also looks very different. Not sure if it's worth dropping the money and another night of vacation to come back. TLDR: Skip the fish, grab a cocktail or two, and don't expect Fisher's-caliber or bang for your buck

Shipps Dockside Grill has taken over the space in the Orange Beach Marina. The decor is beautiful and soothing with simple accoutrements. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive, talking us through the menu. I ordered the grouper which was fantastic! The flavors exploded in my mouth. My husband had the filet and he was very pleased. Best part of the whole adventure was we were able to make reservations, so no waiting. Definitely a favorite in the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area.

Extensive seafood menu with some non seafood choices. Average prices of $25 a plate but the food is worth it. Nice drink menu

We were so excited the marina was reopening as a restaurant. Staff was ok, menu looked great. Food was good. Not great, All menu items were not available. Grouper ponchatrain stated shrimp, mushrooms and lump crab meat. It was cooked well but zero lump crab meat. The menu had other issues. Did not list anything that came with entrees. Waitress informed us the entree came with salad. Entree also came with mashed potatoes ( not fresh) and green beans. I understand it's recently opened but for such a beautiful location it was just average

I've been here 3X so far, once for dinner, once for lunch and once for brunch. The dinner and lunch were downstairs and brunch was upstairs. The sushi for dinner was amazing and the smash burger and blue cheese balls for lunch were so yummy! Great wings as well's. The brunch was the best, though. $34 for 3 courses, $9 for a mimosa flight, $3. My husband and I got the crab omelette, which was amazing. I got the avocado toast as my first course and that was amazing as well. The Creme brûlée wasn't great but my husband's key lime pie was awesome. Our server, Special, was so sweet and I've seen her each time I've been there. She's always so helpful and great with food recommendations. I can't wait to go back!!

This shit slapped I took my girlfriend to this place and she said that she really liked it and that we loved it so much and we got to see all the boats and it was so so so yummy and I ate all the crab in my tummy #yummers Bye

Overall the food was ok. It took forever to get our food, but our waiter was overwhelmed due to being understaffed. Very nice restaurant, clean and stylish.

I'm going to give this one a 4 but that's a generous score considering our experience. I'm am going to chalk this up to being new but the food lacked seasoning and the staff was clearly clueless... I really wish restraints in OB would learn how to season food and stop catering to my 90 year old grandma. The only restaurant in OB that has great food is Zekes and Voyagers. We were fans of Fishers over the years and hope this restaurant can redeem itself. We will be back to give them another shot but they certainly left more to be desired in the food and service.

The food was good, but the service was horrible. Our server was rude, took forever, and refused to accommodate a simple request. We won't be going back.

Very expensive for Lunch. You are required to go to counter to order, pay & tip ahead of time and get your own drinks. No salads available at Lunch. Example-1 crab cake with 2T of corn relish=$26.

Back again for another trip! I have raved to so many people about the Ahi Tuna Sandwich and will continue to do so! This has quickly become a must eat when in town!

OK. As a OBA resident and big time foodie, this pains me to say that Ships Downstairs SUCKS! You have to wait on yourself for drinks and food and then they have the balls to ask for a 22% tip. As for food, the Royal Red Roll (their take on an east coast lobster roll) SUCKED! All bread! I mean ALL BREAD. I'd LOVE TO MEET THE CULINARY TEAM THAT THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA! It's crap. First it's NOT ROYAL REDS AT ALL, and if you are stupid enough like me, to order once, you will never go back. In general, I want every OBA restaurant to succeed. This one I do NOT. It's an embarrassment and needs to be shut down. TODAY! A joke.

Food was ok, but service is terrible. Front desk hands you menus and you sit wherever you want. Most tables are for four and we had six. Not a huge issue, but we were in charge of moving tables. To order, you must return to the front desk where I waited behind other customers and tried to remember everyone's order. You pay there where they apply a tip. Just install a kiosk which would be much easier. Next you get to go to the bar and wait to order drinks. Bartender acted like she was my ex wife. Couldn't make standard cocktails and was rude when I asked for water cups to retrieve my own water. It's all pretty much self service, but they ask for tips at each step. Maybe it's just a staffing issue and the employees are unhappy about it?

The food was delicious. We had the crab bisque, Grouper Pontchartrain, and the Chicken Florentein. All of it was great.

Our group of 4 had a nice dinner experience. Grouper Ponchatrain, Blackened Mahi and Swordfish all well plated and tasted great (could've used a bit more seasoning for my taste but salt and pepper did the trick). Green beans and potato sides very good. I feel like the pricing was fair which is surprising these days. Salad was good with a mix of greens and house made dressings. I would like to see fresh bread instead of crackers. It's nice to have reservations. Not too crowded so plenty of bar seating available both inside and out during short wait for table. Outside lighting was a little dim at our table. Excellent service. Pena colada cake to go a great ending.

If you wanted the original Shipps, this ain't it. Wish them luck but, it's the ship of Theseus. Got the name but not a single good thing seems to have remained from the original. Staff is a mixture of helpful and a bit out of their element. 4 people at a table and ordered an appetizer. Guy came back with 2 plates to eat on. That was the vibe. Bartender doesn't know how to make an Ol Fashioned. Food is alright to kinda good, but not great at all. Overall, was excited to see the place again but ended up leaving like it was a bad breakup. You want to give it another shot but know the heartbreak is just a moment away. Be careful eating lunch during the summer here, wildly uncomfortable. For the pricing and what you get it ain't worth it. Definitely would skip until they get people who can bring this place back in proper form.

Tried the dockside (lower level) of the restaurant on a previous trip back in June. They completely forgot my pregnant wife's order and never brought it out despite us waiting for over 30 minutes to cook a burger. Against our better judgment, we made a reservation for the upstairs of Shipp's which is ostensibly the fancier side of the restaurant. We and about a dozen other patrons stood around in the crowded front of the restaurant with no hostess in sight. Eventually, a fellow patron grabbed one of the disinterested staff members who seated the couple in front of us. By the time they got to us (15 minutes after we had arrived and well past the time of our reservation) the fire alarm went off. I overheard a staff member say it was the second kitchen fire that night. We had seen enough and passed the fire truck on our way out. Terrible shame because the restaurant that previously occupied that location (Fisher's) was a beloved date night location. Will not be going back here.

The tuna and fish entrees are awesome!! Everything else very mediocre. The service is terrible, wait staff under staffed and untrained. Tables are not cleared before entrees are served unless you insist, dinner salad over chilled and wilted by the time it's served to you. Drinks are not replenished timely and the casual atmosphere has been reduced to bedlam. Not many restaurants do the tuna as Well as this restaurateur. Unfortunate that the rest of the experience couldnt be cleaned up,

If I could give zero stars, I would. We waited 2 full hours for food -- not because it was packed (it wasn't), but because the kitchen apparently runs on island time and ego. When we asked about the delay, the kitchen staff was visibly annoyed, borderline hostile. Not just unprofessional -- rude. To top it off, the manager didn't care either. No apology. No explanation. Just more attitude, like we were the problem for expecting decent service. Sorry, but if you're going to charge those prices, maybe act like a restaurant that wants customers to come back? Nothing about this experience was worth the wait -- food included. Plenty of better places in Orange Beach. Don't waste your time or money here.

I was disappointed when Fin and Fork shut down. Thankfully, they've reopened. Some of the best seafood in the area

The Good - The food was good, it did not standout but was good. We had a reservation as we always had when it was Fishers. We didn't need a reservation to be seated. The knot so good - Nothing like Fishers. The table clothes are gone. It's a little louder now. All staff are in t-shirts as if they were working downstairs. Our waitress was definitely not a standout. When you pay, the waiter stands over you with one of those portable card processors while you review your ticket and decide on a tip. We won't be back.

Very nice vibe, location and great service. I have been following the Shipps folk ever since they were at sportsman marina back in the day. I heard they opened this new location and trecked over to give it a go. I sat at the bar and ordered the perdido sushi roll with a beer. I was not disappointed, I will be back!

Amazing food, atmosphere, and the best server, Allison. Food came out fast even with crowd. It tasted fresh and was hot. Highly recommend!

Tried this new option in Orange Beach. Upstairs is more fine dining and downstairs is casual. We ate upstairs. Ordered the crab dip to start. Really a bowl of cream cheese with no crab to be found. Pita points were nicely toasted. Disappointed to learn you can only order sushi downstairs. Gumbo was terrific. Great dark roux and lovely flavor. Best bite of the night. Crab bisque was flavorless. A big bowl of heavy cream with no seasoning and a few tiny slivers of crab. The crab cake was good with a nice amount of crab but the corn salad that accompanied it was sour and inedible. The pasta and blackened shrimp was heavy with minimal seasoning. The seasonal spritzer was tasty. The server was attentive and friendly. Overall an expensive meal that was underwhelming. We won't return upstairs. Might be willing to try a sandwich or sushi downstairs on the outside patio.

Worst food we've had in quite a while. Do not waste your money. Frozen seafood and what had to be canned soup that they tried to pass for gumbo.

The meal and atmosphere were amazing. I had the rigatoni with shrimp (2 jumbo, wish it was more). My boyfriend had the swordfish and he ate it all. To begin, we had crab bisque and Caesar salad. Creme brulee for dessert. Everything as good! Had to make reservations, which is recommended! It was a great experience! Will definitely go back !

Everything about the new Shipp's Dockside Grill is fabulous. The food is amazing and the ambiance is fantastic. The staff are so friendly and pleasant. We would highly recommend.

We loved the Fried oyster salad and Pontchartrain Grouper. If you are light eaters we split the Oyster Salad which was plenty and honestly we could have spilt the grouper. The portions are very generous. Casual dining. Wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We will be back.

Came for a birthday dinner. The food was decent but the service and atmosphere was not impressive. We could definitely tell a difference between the service we received and tables that had different servers. For the prices, I don't believe it's worth it.

Amazing food! The brunch is an awesome three course meal. The service was great too. So glad they are back in Orange Beach.

Food was sub-par. Service was good. Oysters Rockefeller and creole were good. Crab cakes were real bad. Crab cakes out of a can with basic bread crumbs would be better. Steak was well over cooked and more like round steak rather than an aged filet and was in the 4-5 oz range. I took one bite and sent it back for being over cooked and asked them to remove it from my check. Not paying premium price for a steak that was terrible. Tuna appetizer was good. Tuna dip appetizer was good. The potatoes and green beans that were served with each entree were terrible. Potato's tasted like they were cooked with dawn dish soap in them and the green beans were plain as if I flash cooked/steamed them to get them warm and plated. Not a place to spend $$$$ on.

Very noisy upstairs, there were 7 in our group, seating was miserable, big cushions and pillows on one side, the other side chairs were extremely short. Oyster salad was served with the wrong dressing on it, then the inept waiter brought the requested salad dressing on the side. The worst thing was receipt of salads at the same time as the entree. We complained to the manager, she said she was sorry, but they were very busy, so the kitchen was pushing out the orders. We won't bother ever going there again.

Place is fantastic!!! Watch out Big Fish as you have some competition. Seriously folks this place is great.

We went as a party of 6 adults and 2 toddlers. We thoroughly enjoyed it. It was family friendly and the kids meal was very generous and the chicken strips were delicious and toddler approved. The butter bean cakes were different and delicious- think hummus with toppings. The swordfish sandwich and shrimp poboys were great, too. The bartender was friendly and did a great job with the cocktails. We especially enjoyed his strawberry mojitos.

Really solid high end food. GREAT ATMOSPHERE on the bay. Great viewing and music. Overall a solid spot best oysters we've had down here.

We arrived and were happy to see that Shipps is a little more laid back than Fisher's was. A little is great, a lot is not!! The menu looks fantastic. Everyone was very pleasant that we talked to. Some great looking customers deserve properly dressed staff. The staff were definitely the worst dressed people in the restaurant. Hostess was wearing Crocks with stripped tube socks. Servers with cut off short jean shorts. Everyone in T Shirts. Teddy bear key chains hanging from pockets. It's just trashy. Huge beautiful salads come with each meal. Please clear the dirty plates before you serve the entree. We had to ask the person serving our meals to clear the plates and he didn't seem happy about it. The menu is great but the food needs to be served hot, it wasn't. There was a birthday party in the restaurant... great!!!! Staff singing happy birthday and clapping like a casual Mexican Restaurant is not great. A place serving 30ish dollar plates should act like it! You're not Dick's Last Resort!! The lights could be toned down a bit and there are multiple bulbs out. Let's get it together and make this a great place!!! I'll be back and hopefully some of the issues are resolved

The whole concept of waiting on yourself and expecting a tip is crazy! We waited forever to begin with and they didn't bring our appetizer out till the end. I didn't get my burger till 40 minutes after they brought out some of our other food . We told a couple people we were missing a burger and our appetizer and they didn't care. They gave our burger to someone who was there way after us! Ended up getting my food but no apology or anything.The staff were very rude about the whole situation and the manger didn't care either!

So happy to have Shipp's at Orange Beach Marina. Great sushi! Excellent service!! Looking forward to our next visit.

The service and ambiance are the only positives of my experience with this place. I was instantly turned off when the one thing I wanted was not available. Also, it was only 5pm, so how do you NOT have something at opening time? The pineapple margherita was highly recommended and tasted like cucumber water. I ordered the penne pasta with 2 jumbo shrimp. Why even state there are 2 jumbo shrimp if that's all that comes with the dish? They were at best, medium sized shrimp, therefore, the dish looked ridiculous! Also, it came with minced up ham which was not stated in the description and I don't eat pork! I was there with 3 other ladies. Only one said their food was good.
